Trying to import a CD to my ITunes 10 library

Trying to import a CD to my ITunes 10 library. Keep getting a message saying ITunes has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solution, and then the program closes. I'm able to purchase and play tunes,as well as burn those tunes to a disc, but unable to import pre-recorded CDs from my drive. What's up? Any ideas? Thank you!!

Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library as iTunes Library (Corrupt) and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for tools to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.

I have the latest version IPAD.  In Garage Band I am trying to import karaoke songs purchased on itunes so that I can sing with them via garage band.  In Garage Band, when I try in import a song from Itunes, nothing comes up?  How do I do this...?

Make sure you understand the difference between an Audio File and a GarageBand Project File (also known as GarageBand Song File)
The + sing in the My Songs page is for opening a GarageBand Project File, either a new one or one that is copied vie the iTunes File Sharing mechanism. If I understand you right, then you want to import an Audio File from your iTunes library in a GarageBand Project and not open an existing GarageBand Project.
To import an Audio File from your iTunes Library to an existing GarageBand Project.
Make sure you sync your iTunes Library (all songs or a selection) to your iPad. This is the standard procedure so you can listen to your iTunes Library on your iPad (this step has nothing to do with GarageBand yet)
Once you are in your GarageBand Project, tap the Loop Browser icon (the ribbon) to open the Loop Browser
The misleading part here is that this window can display three tabs, not only the Apple Loops. It also displays any synced audio file via the iTunes Fle Sharing (the tab is labeled "Audio Files) and also any songs that you have synced to yoyr iPad that I just described. This tab is now called "Music".
Look at the screenshot of my previous post. The Music tab provides the same browsing capabilities (Playlists, Artist, etc) as your iTunes.
Navigate to the Kareoke Song (audio file) and drag it onto a GarageBand audio track
I explain all those details and concepts in my GarageBand book
    Hope that helps

I keep getting this error code while trying to import a cd to my itunes: "Error occurred while converting the file. The disc you are attempting to use is full. removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space."  What does this mean?

Well it probably means exactly what it says... How much free space is there on your hard drive where the iTunes Media folder resides? I believe there is also an obscure bug that can occur when software doesn't read the true value of the free space properly, and the workaround is, perversely, to duplicate some content so that with less actual free space the software in question perceives it as more. I've no idea if iTunes is affected by such a bug.

  • Permissions problem when trying to import from a cd to itunes

Error message: while converting files - do not have enought access privileges for this operation.
    Check permissions on Music folder.
I have check permissions on the music folder and changed it from read only. I then hit apply. When I check again it has gone back to read only. Am I doing something wrong? I can put the same cd on a different computer and it will import into itunes.
    Appreciate any input!

If Im thinking right this denotes a corrupt permission file for the Music Folder you have to repair using Tweak UI from Microsoft. The step are covered here at apple.com http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302398

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • While trying to import an audio CD, I get an error message, "you don't have the privilege to make changes"

I'm trying to import an audio CD into iTunes, but I keep getting a message saying, "Error occurred while converting the file . . . You do not have the privilege to make changes." I've tried selecting all the different encoders, WAV, MP3 and AAC, and still nothing works.  I would appreciate the help.

Try HT203242: iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install.

  • Error Ox77686174 while trying to import songs

Just downloaded Itunes 7 and am getting the following error while trying to import songs to my playlist from the library.
ERROR OCCURRED WHILE CONVERTING THE FILE "NAME OF SONG". aS UNKNOWN ERROR OCCURRED (Ox77686174).
    Please help me. Thanks, Jodie
      Windows XP

I have found a work around to this error message. I always found that when importing a CD it loaded the first track and could not do the rest. So I now import each track individually. The important thing to do is to make sure you stop the previously imported track from playing then the next track will import. It cannot play and import at the same time. To import a track highlight it by left clicking on it and then hold and drag it onto the music icon in the library. Once imported it will start to play. Stop it playing and then repeat the above for the next track. As long as you stop the track playing you can import. Takes longer, but at least you can get the CDs imported one track at a time. (Trust these instructions makes sense.)

  • How to move iTunes Music Library from an external HD to another?

Yesterday I tried to move all my music from an external HD to a new bigger one.
Well, I encountered various problems, the most important one is that the “iTunes Music Library” file messed up.
I transferred all files and both “iTunes Music Library.xml” and the “iTunes Library” file in the new HD. I have to say that I didn't know so much about those two files and I thought that it was enough to move them in the new location; I discovered that those files included the information about where the music is located (among other infos), so it still redirects to the older HD.
However, now I’m trying to recreate the previous situation on the older HD, and I’m trying to “rebuild” the iTunes Library (I have a back-up of the xml file, even if it is not the running one).
This operation is very important for me because about two years ago I used (for a long time )an earlier version of iTunes that had a bug: even if wrote all the tag infos on an a mp3, the “artist name” and “album name” tags didn’t remained. But I still can see all the informations through the iTunes browser (thanks to the iTunes Music Library DB). So, I cannot recreate it from zero. I absolutely need to export the existing “iTunes Music Library” to the new HD, or at least to use the existing “iTunes Music Library”, leaving it where it already is and moving only the “iTunes Music folder” (even if I don’t want to use two external HDs, the older one holding the existing “iTunes Music Library” e “iTunes Library” files and the newer one holding the “itunes Music” folder I moved!).
As far as you know how can I move safely “iTunes Music Library” e “iTunes Library” files on the new HD applying them to the new “iTunes Music” folder??
    I really need your help!
    This article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307074 didn’t help.
    Stefano

Sorry, I wasn't responding to you, just the original poster. I didn't look at the date on that posting and didn't realize that you'd added a post that wasn't quite the same problem. In future, you'll find you get better answers if you start your own thread. You're issue really is a bit more complicated.
If iTunes currently recognizes all the music on both internal and the external drives, it should work. You have to make sure that both drives (old and new) are mounted. Make sure you have both "Keep iTunes music organized" (you probably already do) and "Copy files to iTunes..." (you probably don't) checked.
If not all of the music is currently in your iTunes library, perform the procedure with the music that is a part of the library and add the other stuff afterwards.
    Best of luck.

  • Cleaning up hidden files after deleting iTunes media library

Recently I have been struggling with an almost full hard drive. Daisy Disk Utility revealed that a major culprit was a bulging iTunes  - 90 GB!
In order to free up space, I have just copied iTunes media library to an external hard drive, successfully changed my iTunes preferences to point to the hard drive...that all worked.
I then moved my iTunes media library to Trash.
Most of it has now been deleted (there are still a few recalcitrant items I am trying to work out how to get rid of).
I now have about 20 GB more free space on my hard drive....much less than I had hoped to gain.
Daisy Disk Utility tells me that I now have around 68 GB in hidden files.
What can I do to finish the process of creating more space on my hard disk?

Yes.  The following files and folders are in the Mac iTunes folder:
    Album Artwork
    iTunes Music
    Mobile Applications
    iTunes Previous Libraries
    iTunes 4 Music Library.itl,
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb,
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb,
    iTunes Library.itl,
    iTunes Music Library.xml
iTunes Library.xml **this file not in PC iTunes folder**
.DS_Store and sentinel (icon for both is a blank sheet) are in the PC iTunes folder, but did not copy to iTunes folder on hard drive.
The day before you responded to my question, I read a support document (in Home Sharing section)  that had instructions to import the playlist by copying iTunes Library.xml to external drive and importing it to  iTunes. I imported it by going to iTunes, File, Library, import playlist.  It worked, but again, no playcounts ratings.
I thought iTunes Library.xml file was simultaneously removed when I removed the iTunes Folder in the Mac music folder, but somehow, I did something to get it back in or didn't properly remove it.  The .xml that's on my PC and in the ITunes folder on my external hard drive is iTunes Music Library.xml.  iTunes Library.xml is also on the external drive as a separate file but not in the iTunes folder that's on hard drive.  I did nothing to alter file names.

  • Japanese text is gibberish in iTunes Music library

    Hello,
Problem is: Songs w/Japanese text (Kanji, Kana) as artists and/or title names look like gibberish in my iTunes Music library (viewing songs on the hard drive).
On a new WinXP PC I loaded iPod+iTunes from CD on computer. Songs play fine in iTunes. Japanese text looks fine in Windows\My Music folder. Japanese text looks fine in iPod device. With iPod connected to PC, I can view my iPod songs inside the iTunes window and the Japanese songs text Kanji looks great. (Yet if I look at same songs located on the PC using the iTunes program, they look bad).
I removed iTunes from PC, then downloaded it from the Japan Apple.com site; no change in problem. Help!
    Window's settings are:
--WinXP is US English, Control Panel region is US English, Window's Far East language support is enabled. but language for non-Unicode programs is Japanese (other Japanese software looks fine), Japanese IME is enabled
-- Internet Explorer's Language Preferences is set for Japanese 1st, English 2nd.
    Thanks in advance!
    Erin W

I tried the "convert ID3 tags >> Reverse Unicode" option on a few songs. It only caused the gibberish song names and titles to change to different gibberish.
The odd thing is that I have some songs that had english in some ID3 tags (such as "name") and Japanese in other ID3 tags (such as "artist") and for those, the Japanese text looks great. And yet some song text doesn't.
I tried deleting a few songs from the iTunes Music library, then click-and-drag the songs from Windows' My Music folder into the iTunes program. It adds it back with the Japanese text still unreadable, same as before.
I don't know what else to do. I've searched the discussions database here and found instances of the same problem but no fixes.
Thanks for the help though, and I'd be glad to see any other ideas.

  • Import an MP4 movie into my event library...

I'm trying to import an MP4 movie into my event library...all I get is the audio with black thumbnails. What am I doing wrong?

    Sorry I couldn't help.
Here is one idea. Get MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5. It is free.
Open MPEG Streamclip. Drag your MP4 file into MPEG Streamclip.
    Use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME...
    For Compression, choose h.264.
    Leave everything else the same.
Then try to import the resulting file into iMovie, same as before.
If it still does not work, try it again and this time choose Apple Internediate Codec for compression.
This should produce an MOV file with h.264 inside (or AIC inside).

  • IPhoto nightmare. Tried to import photos using Nikon software for the first time and all my photos disappeared from iPhoto 8.1.2 (and everything from itunes too). Newly reinstalled iPhoto crashes as soon as I import anything now.

Macbook OSX 10.5.8, iPhoto 8.1.2. I just tried to import some photos using Nikon software (View NX2) for the first time. When I next looked into iPhoto it was empty (so was iTunes but that's another story). I had backed up photos fairly recently but don't use time machine. Searched in vain everywhere and must have done something wrong because iPhoto wouldn't then open at all, saying it was unreadable. After a lot more attempts to recover I uninstalled iPhoto and the receipts and reinstalled from my original disc. It seemed to be ok and imported some photos from my iphone but as soon as the import is complete iPhoto crashes and when opened again it is empty. Have tried this several times and have shut down and have tried rebuilding with the alt and cmd buttons but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

not a reply but not sure how to add something to my own thread! It seems that Desktop was damaged too as when I try to open it a screen says there is no application selected to open Desktop with. No idea what I should choose! Any help appreciated, have really made a mess of my MacBook this time.

I have already imported these files into iTnes on my old computer, but run into this problem with my new laptop. I downloaded a new version of iTunes just like I installed all my new programs on this new laptop.
For some reason, I run into this problem when trying to import any mp3 files (as mentioned, even mp3 files that I successfully imported into iTunes previously).
(I've tried a complete removal and re-install, but that didn't help)
Anyone know why I'm getting this error message and how to correct things?
