Trying to Install Printer

I have an HP Deskjet 840C Series printer that I've been using for 5-6 years and I'm trying to install it on my new MacBook Pro. When I try to open the install app I get a message telling me the "Classical" is no longer supported. Am I going to have to buy a new printer or is there a way around this?

The most recent Mac driver for the 840C was released in 2007 for OS X 10.5. Download it here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us &prodNameId=19045&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25399&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvO ID=4019
Install it instead of the ancient OS 9-based driver you've been trying to install. It may or may not be compatible with Snow Leopard. If it doesn't work, you may indeed need a new printer, because HP's failure to update the driver since the release of Snow Leopard 8 months ago doesn't bode well for you.

I also have a macbook pro running the same version OS and it installed fine there - I can't find the difference; but, NEED to print from my IMac.

I'm guessing you've tried Fiery's website for updated drivers? I wonder whether Lion drivers would work? Anything of use here:

  • Resume results in blank screen after trying to install printer

Yesterday, I tried to install a network printer (got some trouble with cups, avahi, ...). But after a successful installation, I noticed that resume from suspend doesn't work anymore.
I tried to disable all services I had enabled, but to no avail. I tried to look for something related to cups or printer drivers blocking resume, but couldn't find anything about it.
The suspend log also doesn't reveal any problems.
I don't know how to debug this further.

I dont believe it has anything to do with printing.  There is a known bug in 3.17.3 / 3.17.4 that affects i686 kernels

  • Error while trying to install printer on Airport Express

    Hi,
I'm trying to install a HP Deskjet 3930 on my Macbook through the Airport Express. I'm getting an error:
An error occured while trying to add the selected printer Error:-9672
    Anyone have any ideas?

    BINGO!!
After trying every driver possible (and there were many...), I finally got my HP Deskjet 3930 to print through Bonjour. Here's how:
    1. Reset the printing system with Printer Setup Repair from fixamacsoftware.com
    2. Add a new printer with Printer Setup Utility
    3. Select the HP 3930 connected through Bonjour
    4. Instead of using the default HP driver, select the HP PSC 1110 Foomatic/hpijs driver (available at http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/)
I've tested the printer on a variety of print jobs and so far everything seems to be working smoothly. I should probably note that this driver does not grant access to the printer utilities, but at least it works.
    Hopefully someone finds this useful.

  • Access Denied When Trying To Install Printer - Windows 7

    Good Day
I have a serious problem on a client's computer. All I need to do is connect the laptop to a network printer, but I am having a lot of difficulty in doing so.
First the details of the laptop: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit connected to network using ETH cable. Avira Professional antivirus running, firewall disabled on pc, user is member of administrators group only.
Details of the printer: Xerox Workcentre 3220, connect to network using ETH cable, but also shared on pc also running Windows 7 64-bit Professional.
I am able to ping the printer and have connected all the other pcs on the network to the printer without any troubles whatsoever. Printing, scanning - everything is working fine for the other pcs. I am also able to connect to shares from the laptop to any
    other pc.
So here is my issue with this specific laptop:
Firstly, when using the "Add Printer" wizard, the "Add a local printer" option is greyed out.
So I tried connecting to the printer using the"Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer" option, which seemed to be working, but during installation it gives an Access Denied error and undoes the installation.
Then I tried connecting to the share of the printer on one of the other pcs, which had the exact same result.
I then tried to modify an other printer, by firstly trying to add a new Local Port, but the I recieve the following error: "Specified port cannot be added. Access is denied."
I tried then adding the driver using the Windows Print Server, but the buttons were unavailable.
After reading on many forums, I accessed the Print Management console (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Print Management)m and tried adding the printer and ports there, but recieved an "Access Denied" error every time.
Basically whatever I tried, I recieved "Access Denied" errors. I created a new user, which is only a member of the Administrators group. Logged in with new user, without any success in connecting to the printer. I then tried adding security permisssions
for "everyone" to the folder C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS, as I read on another forum. I tried modifying the group policy using gpedit.msc and also using the Local Security Policy, although I could have missed some things in these two places,
but basically with a quick glance, everything seemed fine. I am sure there are no virusses, etc on this laptop and as I have said all the other pcs connected to the printer very easily.
How can it be that I cant install a printer on this laptop, while I was able to do so a year or so back?
I have gotten a few suggestions that it will in the end just save me time by formatting the pc and reloading all the data and programs, but this isn't an option I really want to take. And then I have previously had issues with the "Add a local printer"
option greyed out and unable to add printers, etc, but then I was able to solve the problem by creating a new user and then switching to that user - which indicated a possible user profile corruption. But in this case even that did not work.

    Hi,
    please check your below configuration:
1.Start the policy editor (Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Local security policy)
    2.Select “Local policy” item
3.Find the item “Devices: Prevent Users from Installing Printer Drivers” in the section Security Settings -> Security Options and change it to Enabled
4.Go to “Security Settings -> User Rights Assignment” section and check, that “Load & Unalod Drivers” option contains the active user group. It important, that even if it has “All Staff” already, it still could miss “Administrators” group, so it’s necessary
    to add it manually.

  • Have an ibookg4 with mac osx version 10.4.11 trying to install printer software for lexmark z22 softwaredisk is for mac8.6/9

i have an iBookG4 with mac OSX10.4.11 i am trying to install software for my lexmark z22 printer disk is for mac 8.6/9 can i do this install.  i just got this  mac use to having a pc.  thank you for any help

    Hi, michele -
That disk is of no use - it has drivers for OS 9 and earlier, which are useless in OSX.
OSX 10.4 already includes drivers for that printer model. See this Apple KBase article -
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1468
Scroll down to the Lexmark entry, click the link to show included drivers. In the matrix on the new page it lists the Z22 model.

  • Trying to install printer (HP 1217nfw mfp)

Hi everyone, I have a MBA and am trying to install a printer (HP 1217nfw mfp). The printer was originally installed but stopped working about a week ago. I'm not sure how to proceed. I've tried googling everything I could and nothing has helped. I tried using a USB and again nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I should mention that I am a new to Macs (less than two months) but the last time I installed it, I had no problems whatsoever. Thanks for your help!

    Hi..
First, try resetting the print system >   OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
If that doesn't help, download the driver >  Software & driver downloads HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw Multifunction Printer
After you download the driver, open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
If you see the printer listed on the left, select it then click - under the Printers panel.
Then click + to add the printer again.

  • Printer trying to install under other devices and fails

OK, this is an annoying issue.
    Probook 4730s with Windows 7 Pro64
HP OfficeJet 8500 A909g all in one wireless.
EVERYthing is working just FINE except everytime I start the computer for some reason the 'other devices' section of Device Manager tries to install printer software and fails, then leaving numerous/repeating versions of OfficeJet Pro 8500 A909g failed software attempted installs.
It happens everytime I start the laptop and it's very annoying.
Simple question.  How can I stop this from happening?
Everything else in the system including full use of the printer/scanner/wireless or hardline hookup is AOK.
    Thanks in advance.

    Any other takers?
I suspect the printer is being picked up by Windows in the startup process and is being identified as an 'other device.'  It's probably also causing a small series of error messages in the event viewer i.e. an IP address not being provided in the allowed timeframe (which the printer is not able to provide through it's wireless signal) and the other 3 error processes associated with that failure.
When the machine boots it then tries to identify the source of the problem, which is the 'other device,' the HP printer.  And then Windows unsuccessfully tries to install software under 'other devices' where printers don't belong and fails, leaving a trail of HP printers in it's wake under other devices.
Surely there is a simple cure for this annoying (and currently only) issue I have?

I am trying to install a new printer with the external CD rom drive on my MacBook Air.  When I load the disc it is not allowing the program to run as it is stating that I have the wrong application to do so.  How do I install things from the external CD Rom?

It is unlikely you need its installation CD-ROM at all.

  • PLEASE HELP!!  Trying to install an HP Printer

I am trying to install my HP Deskjet 3940 to my Mac Mini. When I put in the disk provided by HP, and double click a message comes up saying: "An error occured while reading the installer data. This installer appears to be damaged". So I went to HP's website to download the driver, made sure I had everything correct, (download to Mac OS X, correct model # of the printer, etc.). Once it has downloaded and I double click, a message comes up saying: "error creating file, data not found". Please, if anyone knows how to help! I have called both HP and Apple with no success. Has anyone come across this same problem and soved it??

    1st Time Mac User,
The 3940 driver is included in the latest version of OSX. There's a pretty good chance you could just plug it in and it will work. No CD necessary.
If you're using it as a network printer on Airport Extreme/Express, follow these directions: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1300.html -- use the 3840 driver.
Or you could use the HPIJS CUPS driver if 10.3.8 doesn't automatically recognize the printer: http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/.

I am trying to install a new printer and it keeps asking me for my administrator password! How do I get that password or reset it.

    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Utilities from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access the Menubar at top.
