Trying to make a decision; input wanted

some background- i'm a high end freelance retoucher by trade and my 21"crt is beginning to get tired (color issues and i feel cramped) and i would really like to upgrade to a 23/24" widescreen lcd. i don't have room on my desktop to do 2 monitors, and i want more room on my screen is why i'm not interested in a 21". a 24" would fit perfectly, but a 30" would be too big. i don't game, but occasionally might watch dvd's. dragging lag may bother me since i'm used to a sony crt but i'm hoping i'll get used to it (but i don't want to go with a crt again- too clunky). the one thing about an lcd that concerns me is the viewing angle and how much the color changes if i move my head around a little, and i'd love to hear views on this. i do browse the web a good bit in addition to work and want something i can be comfortable working on for 8-10 hrs at a time if need be. i want at least a 3 yr warrantee, which rules out apple (i'm NOT paying more to get the warrantee that sould come with it). one of my clients has an apple 23" (i think) and i never noticed lag or view angle problems with his, so i have worked on lcd's before. i've read all the posts on here that pertain, and on other sites and am stuck.
the two monitors i've narrowed it down to are the benq FP241W and the Samsung 244T, both around $850, are very comparable in features, and both getting good user reviews, at least the few that are posted. haven't found anywhere locally that i can go and actually see them side by side or individually to get a sense. i considered the apple 23", but it seems as though the complaints outnumber the occolades at this point, plus the warrantee bites. the dell sounds like a bad deal with the whining issues ( i can't stand high frequency noise) and the dead pixel/ banding issues. i'd love to able to afford an eizo or lacie, but really don't want to spend that much money at this point, especially given that my main client doesn't need absolutely perfect color. in fact, most of my clients don't; almost always they are going to the press house after me and correcting for that press. right now i eyeball my color and have had excellent results, but am willing to get a calibrator. the few that don't and want super accurate color i always recommend getting a colormatched proof locally. the other thing about the eizo that i haven't been able to ferret out is if it's mva, pva or ips. i read in one place that it was a pva, and haven't heard back from eizo when i emailed them directly. i was reading that eizo has some new developments coming down the pike, and maybe in a yr or 2 or 3 i would be willing to spring for the extra money and pass along the 24" to my kids, but for now i just don't want to spend that much money, even for the awesome qualities & warrantee. especially since i'd like to get one of the new quads in about a yr so i can work faster on some of the big files i use and hope to upgrade to leopard when it comes out. only so much $ for stuff like that to go 'round!
so, any thoughts- good or bad about any of this?

Well the black and white books are basically that... a different color. Also the black one has a 80GB HD instead of 60 of the white. But they're both 2GHz Core Duo processors and have Superdrives (CD-R,DVD-R+R/RW).
The "other" white one has a 1.83GHz processor (which I don't think would make much difference between it and the 2) and a CD-R/RW). So that's what it boils down to. Do you think you'd like to have the ability to burn DVD's? Not earth shattering but then again they make excellent backup schemes.
I'd certainly not order the MacBook from Apple with extra RAM (or HD for that matter). You could probably do it yourself (or someone even remotely mechanical could do it for you) and you'll save tons of money instead of having to buy Apple's RAM.
Using it for what you want to do won't be real taxing but get at least a 1GB of RAM. If it were me and I had access to another computer to run that Windows software on that's what I'd do. Not that BootCamp or Parallels don't work well (they seem to be fine) but I wouldn't waste my HD space for a whole install of Windows just to run one application (which may or may not have a Mac alternative) when you've got another computer to run it on. Not installing that may make the larger HD point moot.

As far as I'm aware iTunes always charges the account balance first and when this expires charges any remaining amount to your credit/debit card. The one exception I am aware of (though there could be others) is that Apps purchased from the Canadian store must always be charged to a card rather than a gift card voucher balance due to local legislation.

HT1040 trying to make an ibook and have 800 photos, want format of 8 photos/page, but default is not that- "create" the initial book from iphoto "album" it loads less than 800 pics and then when i change layout i have blanks.

if i clear the book so that it is all blanks and then try to load in the pictures i have it loses the chronology of the pictures that i had established in the album.
is there a way to import photos into an ibook template and keep the original order of the photos without having to do them one at a time?
also, is there a way to insert a photo rather than just dragging it? i have tried the cut and paste funciton but it doesn't seem to work, the target site doesn't seem to register with iphoto.

Photos are added to book in chronological order. So if you want to add them to a book in the order you have placed them manually in an album do the following:
1 - select all the photos in the album.
2 - use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option as shown here. Select any date and add 1 minute between photos.
3 - select just one photo from the album and create a book from it.
4 - in the book click on the Options button ➙ Book Settings button and make sure the checkbox for Auto-layout pages is unchecked.
5 - drag the album with your book photos onto the book icon and they will be imported into the Photos tray of the book in your pre-determined order but not into the pages themselves.

Are you planning to have this table do any of the calculation, or is is to be used as the electronic equivalent of a sheet of paper with a grid printed on it—a place to record the data.
For your seven column table:
Are you using one or more rows at the top of the table to label the data below? If so, you might want this row (or these rows) to be set as Header Rows.
Are you using the leftmost column to label the rows? If so, you may want this column to be a Header column.
The default table supplied on the "Blank" templates contains one header row and one header column. If you need more (or fewer) Header rows or columns, select the table, then go Table (menu) > Header Rows > (choose the number you need). Repeat to set the number of Header Columns.
To make a seven column table from the table supplied by default, click on any cell in column H (The eighth column), and drag right to add more cells to the selection, until you get to the last column of the table. With these cells selected, Go Table > Delete Columns.
To make the remaining seven columns fit across a single page:
Go View > Show Print View to show the table as it would appear when printed to paper.
Select the table by clicking its icon in the Sheets List to the left (easy method), OR by carefully clicking on the outside boundary of the table itself (fiddley method).
With the table selected, you will see square white handles at each corner and at the middle of each side (including the top and bottom).
With the mouse, grab the handle in the middle of the right side of the table and drag right (or left) until the table just fits onto the width of the defined page.
With the table still selected, set the thickness and colour of the cell boundaries using the Gaphics Inspector (as described by Jerry), or using the Stroke, Thickness and Color Well controls in the Format bar above the working portion of the Window.

Click File >> Open and select all of your photos
That will add them to the project bin
Then select File >> New >> Blank File
Select background color White (or whatever you prefer) and add your width and height for your final image (set resolution 72 for web usage or 240 to 300 for printing) then click OK
In the project bin click your first photo and drag it up into the main window on top of your new background.
Click on the move tool and click in the center of the photo and drag to arrange it where you want on the background - you can hold down the shift key to maintain original proportions whilst dragging the corner handles of the bounding box to get the size you want.
Do the same with the next photo (drag it up into the main window) and use the move tool to position it. Then continue with each image.
Finally Click Layer >>Flatten image and save as jpeg. (Save as PSD if you want to preserve the layers for editing again)
N.B. as you add images they get dropped in the center. So you need to use the move tool to drag them apart. Click in the middle of one and move it around, and then the others until you get them positioned as you want.
When you click again with the move tool a bounding box appears around the image and you can drag out the corner handles to re-size your photos. Hold down the shift key when dragging the corner handle and that will maintain the proportions of the original.
Finally click Layer >>Flatten Image and save your collage - you may then want to use the crop tool to cut away any surplus white canvas, and then re-save. Click the T tool to add text.

Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free content without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)

Hey I want to know what resolution a personas 3000x 200x is because I am trying to make one, but the middle part of the picure is movin to the left so some thing is wrong with resolution and interpolation. PS, I use Gimp.

I use Debian and Gimp program to make my own personas but it seem like I have to know what resolution or interpolation is needed for the best result. I am trying to make one in size of 3000px wide x 200px high but don't know what resolution and interpolation is matching the requirements of Firefox or personas. For ex: in Gimp when scaling an image the interpolation possibilities are 4 like:

depends on how old your Mac is ...
newer machines do not come along with a pre-installed iDVD (.. and iWeb ..) anymore; you have to purchase a boxed version of iLife11.
if somehow iDVD is installed on your Mac, you should find it in your Apps-folder
(or use Spotlight, search for iDVD) ...-

Trying to make a clone backup of my internal HD but my iMac no longer recognizes my external HD.

Short story: I am trying to make a clone of my internal drive using Super Duper! but the 3 TB La Cie external hard drive I want to copy to isn't being recognized by finder or in disk utility. The external hard drive is powered and attached to the desktop via firewire cable. It was properly formatted and made one seemingly successful backup prior to this attempt.
Specs: I have a 27 in iMac with 2 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, purchased in late 2009. Running Mac OS 10.6.8 with 8GB RAM. I have a 2 TB internal HD with only 80 GB available.
Background: I've had few if any problems with this computer but I'm running out of disc space. It's getting a little sluggish and I find that I am force quitting iPhoto more often than I used to. I was getting ready to put a long overdue (less labor intensive) backup plan in place. I had been using DVDs to back up photos and some documents. My computer crashed last week while working in iPhoto. The screen was speckled and banded and I could not restart. I was able to boot in safe mode and run disk utility. The verification stopped (corrupted files found) and disk utility recommended repair. I did a safe mode back up with time machine to the 3 TB ext HD. I tried unsuccessfully to run safe mode with networking to attempt online backup with Crashplan. I read something about installing mac os x on ext HD and then dragging files over to it, but DVD player not functional in safe mode. Then I called Apple support to run what I had done by them and to ask for advice before running disk repair. We tried a PRAM reset but still couldn't restart in normal mode. He said my safe mode backup should be good and to run the repair, restore if necessary and if that doesn't work bring it to Apple for hardware testing. I read somewhere that PRAM resets need to be done with a USB (not wireless) keyboard so I tried again doing a few PRAM/NVRAM resets. No change. Later, maybe even the next day, the screen which had been banded and speckled looked normal again. Not sure why but happy. I restarted successfully. I ran a time machine backup in normal mode to a 5 TB external HD and wanted to make a bootable clone of my mac HD to the 3 TB ext HD (in place of the safe mode backup). The computer crashed again for a little while and I was eventually able to restart. I downloaded Super Duper! but my mac no longer sees the 3 TB external drive. Maybe I did something wrong when I changed drives in time machine for the last backup? I'm guessing I could crash again at any moment and would love to get this clone made.

Yes. Formatted correctly. It' s new ext HD and I made a the first back up on it a few days ago using time machine while my computer was in safe mode. When I was able to restart my computer normally I quickly set up a time machine backup to my larger 5 TB ext drive. Also new and formatted for my mac. I was in a rush to get it going before I left for work so maybe I did something wrong. IDK. I can't remember but it did ask me about switching drives vs setting up. Although I don't see why the computer wouldn't see the drive.
I did try another firewire cable and no change. Checked connections again. The HD turns on and the blue light comes on (it's a La Cie d2 quadra deskdrive)
Is the SMC reset where you detach devices and restart? My printer, keyboard and mouse are all wireless and right now I don't have anything else connected.
I'll try another PRAM reset too.
* Question:
When I connect the 3 TB drive it starts up but I don't see it on my desktop, finder sidebar or in disk utility. If a hard drive starts up but doesn't show up on your computer how do you safely shut it down before disconnecting? I've been clicking on the desktop and then pressing the eject button on my keyboard just in case.
