Trying to move file in v1.0 - false error Mac OS 10.4.8

I am a huge fan of LR. Well frikkin' done Adobe...and to the whiners and nay sayers and negative comments on this forum - remember most folk who are working pro photographers like me haven't got time in the day to write glowing fabulous comments to counter the silly stuff.
You really nailed the work flow. We shoot about 250 gigs of data a month and have already shaved many hours per job off due to LR. So there.
But I have a weird problem I need advice on.
I am running the latest Mac OSX 10.4.8 on a MacBook Pro with 2 gigs RAM. I am a very experienced Photoshop user (since v3) and a savvy technical computer user on Mac and Win.
I have come across a repeatable and for me show stopping bug - here's my workflow - I import images as per usual. Then I select some images and make them green with the 8 key, then choose to only view them with the filter.
Next I want to move these heros to a separate folder. So I make a new folder using the + button. Then I drag the images over. Voila. Works perfectly and I can see the selected images in the finder etc.
But sometimes and I dont know why only sometimes I get a mesage that states that a certain file name exists already in the folder I am copying to and the copy stops. This aint so, as the folder is brand new and has nothing in it. So now I have a mess of some images copied and some not and I don't know where all my heros are - some copied and some didnt. Now if I try to copy the remainder of the files over now the drag and drop wont actually allow me copy any files at all.
But sometimes this works and then for no reason I can figure out some times this doesn't.
Is this a known bug?
Any feedback gratefully received...
Will

thanks for taking time to reply
i tried restarting LR after restarting the machine, several times. no joy. it seems that LR is now confused about where the images are. there is no synch to the finder anymore. LR thinks the images are somewhere where the finder and bridge dont see them.
the files are on an external new 100 gig 7200 rpm seagate usb 2.0 drive.
this particular job is this - we are putting together a new web site and have gone through 4 years of photos to find the heros.
these were all copied to this little external drive in a series of folders that match the way that the final web site will have galleries.
the root foler was then imported into LR.
each folder has around 200 images that we want to use LR to whittle down to the final 30 for each catagory.
standard stuff. and LR has worked perfectly copying the chosen files to new "selected" folders within each category. but every so often as i say earlier it gets confused. and that REALLY messes up my day.
also, I am finding that color tags set up in LR are not being seen by Bridge in CS3
more as it happens

I'm also running MacOS 10.4.8 and also have been having file-copying problems.
What I've been trying to do is move some already-cataloged folders from one volume to another. I had read in previous posts (Sean's?) that in these cases Lightroom usually would find the files on its own "eventually," and if it didn't you could use the "locate file" dialog to point it to their new locations.
What's been happening to me is that Lightroom, or the Finder, or both, stop responding during the copy process, or subsequently when I try to locate the moved file. Generally I get a window with a blank folder list (although in one case the folder contents suddenly appeared after about 15 minutes of inactivity) or a completely unresponsive system and a spinning beachball. Once this happens, Lightroom often doesn't even respond to the force-quit dialog, so this evening I've restarted my Mac more times than I have in the past six months!
So, what I suspect is happening to Will is similar: the Finder is dying partway through the copy process as part of some interaction with Lightroom, so the contents aren't updating correctly and he's getting false error messages.
Whatever is going on, it seems like a potential headache down the road, since anyone with a reasonably large library of images is going to have to relocate files from time to time as mounted volumes fill up.
Anybody who's got a good idea of what's going on and how to keep Lightroom from hanging itself and the Finder during copy operations, please advise!

  • Error -36 while trying to move files on SMB mounted NAS

    Hey,
I have been experiencing an error -36 while trying to move files around on my NAS.
I have the feeling it has something to do with insufficient privileges that are being acquired.
When mounting in windows explorer no problems arise.
When using the mac mounted disk in Parallels same problem.
Mounting disk in mac as following:
    smb://login:password@ip-address/NAS-mount
    or
smb://ip-address/NAS-mount (after which login details are prompted)
Any help or suggestions are welcome,
    Jan

    Hey,
I tried CIFS but that is giving me the same error -36.
I think it must have something to do with finder permissions as windows explorer is handeling it just fine.
    Any more suggestions?
    Tried:
    cifs://login:password@ipaddress/share

  • When trying to move file and use command and drag, it doesn't move the file just creates a short cut.

When trying to move file and use command and drag, it doesn't move the file just creates a short cut.

    Using command creates a copy.
If you want to just move a file, click on it, hold it and drag it to the new location.

If .mov files are compatible with iPad, you can add your .mov file to iTunes and sync it to your iPad.

  • .Mov files are not playing on my Mac BookPro

As of this week, I am unable to play my .mov files through Quick Time on my Mac Book Pro.  A small windo appears and states that sometype of conversion is occurring and eventually some of my movie files will play.
I am at work creating a .mov file through quick time and the file will not play.

That's a well documented limitation of JavaFX. Mov files are simply not supported.

You should vote for the corresponding JIRA entries.
    Maybe it helps.

  • Finder freezes when trying to move files to external hard drive

Whenever I try to move files from internal hard drive to my external finder freezes it. I have over 5 TBs of free space on my external, so I know it's not a space issue. This happens no matter the size of the file. It starts the copy and then will freeze before it finishes. If I try to force quit and select relaunch it acts like it is relaunching but my icons never re-appear and the command bar at the top never returns. So I end up having to hard boot.
I just reinstalled the 10.5.8 combo update and verified both hard disks, if any repairs came up I repaired and then did the same with disk permissions....it's still freezing on me. I am frustrated because there are some files I'd really like to move to my external raid hard drive but I'm not able to.
The freezing happens if I'm trying to transfer files from a disc or an additional external HD. My internal HD is only so big and the external Raid drive is for my capture scratch on Final Cut Pro and I'm even having issues capturing to that drive. Everything wants to be on my internal HD and that doesn't work for me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Sean Dale1 wrote:
Do you get any error messages and if so what are they? Do you have any problems copying files off the problem drive back to your Mac or do the freezes only occur when copying to the external?
No I don't get any error messages, the finder just freezes and when I try to relaunch finder it doesn't relaunch properly..all icons are missing and I'm not able to access the the task bar to properly shut down so I have to hard boot.
It happens only when trying to save files to the external, whether through drag and drop or within programs. I am able to access files on the external and copy files from there to my internal without problems.
Have you tried attaching this drive to another Mac and if so do you get the same issues?
I don't have another Mac to attach the drive to.
How is this RAID attached, SCSI, FireWire, SATA or what? How was the RAID created, Disk Utility or third party software and have you verified the integrity of the RAID?
The RAID is attached via SCSI. In an attempt to solve this finder issue I re-installed the drivers to the most current drivers available and in doing so updated any firmware....and there was no change. I was not the one who set up the RAID so I don't know how it was created. It's an Enhance UltraStore R16 and I've been using it without issues since January 2007 and this freezing thing has been intermittent for a few months now but now it's constant and annoying. I've verified the disk through disk utility but I don't have any software to check the integrity otherwise. Do you have any recommendations as to what software I could use to do this?

  • HT1848 Trying to move files from iPad to new MacBook

    Hi.
I'm trying to move my music etc from an iPad to my new Macbook. My previous computer (PC) died some time ago, so I have no backups of the info on my iPad. (Well, a backup from about a year ago!) I lost my iPad data once before, after doing an OS update on it, and it was only my own ideas and not AppleCare that helped me to sort the problem out. That said, I'm a bit nervous now that I don't have any backups of the data.
OK, so I've tried following the steps in the article about this. I've also turned off the automatic sync function now because I'm scared it'll immediately sync to an empty iTunes. But even having done this, I'm still getting the 'sync in progress' message on my iPad. The Macbook isn't giving me the message to 'transfer', but asking if I want to update the OS on the iPad.
So ... Is the iPad actually sync-ing if it says it's sync-ing or is it just in the initial stages of connection and hasn't done anything yet? Can I leave the devices connected?
And if I just say no to the OS update, will I then get the message I'm supposed to get?
*** Oh, and it was opening iPhoto too. I've now followed the instructions to stop this from opening. Would that have been why I was getting the 'sync in progress' message?

You can use a third-party Mac application like Senuti to move music from your iPad to your iTunes library.
It's normal for iPhoto to start when you connect an iPad with photos in its camera roll.

  • HT201366 Why can I not drag a .mov file from a Download onto my Mac timeline or in a exteral hard drive?

I received a .mov file along with an option to download the footage. For some reason, I can't open the .mov file???
    Any ideas why I can't?
    Thank you.
    Stu Ross

Are you getting any error messages?  What do they say?  Exactly what occurs when you try to open the .mov file?
Which app & version are you trying to use to open the .mov file?  If QT, which one, vX or v7.x which is located inside your Utility folder?
    Per your system profile:
    Mac OS X (10.5.7)
    Please correct.
