Trying to open CS5 in InDesign CS4

I am working with another graphic designer and she saved her InDesign CS5 file as a InDesign CS4. When I tried to open it in my Academic version of InDesign CS4 version 6.0 I received the following error screen -
Any suggestions - How do I update plugins or tell whether they need updated?
When moving files from CS5 to CS4 - do you have any tips?

CS5 file must be exported to IDML which you can then open in CS4.
Don't expect the document to look the same as it does in CS5. Text will reflow and any new features will be lost or badly mangled.
In short, if you have to work with someone on CS5 you should upgrade.

I can't open CS5 documents in CS4. I know I need to update my plugins, but when I go to updates it says there are none. I have a hardcopy of CS4, is there a way to download CS4 electronically so I can receive all the updates I need? I have no idea how to do this manually . . . or maybe I just need to upgrade to CS5?

Opening CS5 BOOK to CS4

Hello,
I created a 188 page book in InDesign CS5, broken up to 4 documents....and my printer has CS4 and they are going to want the native files (or at least they have always asked for them before).....
I know that to open a CS5 document in CS4 I should export to a IDML file...But I never created a book for CS4...
I am a little nervous about simply converting each document to in my book to IDML because of the auto page numbering AND/OR the possibility of pages shifting (for example, pages that are supposed be on the right might show up on the left)...Will a CS5 .indb file open in CS4? (I wouldn't think so)
Any advice to avoid formatting issues or layout problems?

Thanks a lot guys.....Actually turns out, our printer upgraded to CS5 three days ago...Which is good, but I agree that books can do wacky things....
So I will send PDF's in addition to the book.

I'm trying to embed sound in InDesign CS4, but its not working

I tried to use file, place sound and also with a interactive button, apply the sound, but when I browse for my mp3 file it just wont let me selected.
I open the mp3 file to make sure was not damage and it worked just fine.
If this feature of adding sound exist within InDesign CS4, why I can't use it?

AE CS6 crashes while trying to open CS5.5 project

Just downloaded the demo of CS6, but am having a nightmare trying to open my CS5.5 project. I get the following error message
After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in "Shadow/Highlight".
I tried opening a different project, and a similar error occurs, but with a different plugin. This time it's the Paint plugin.
After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in "Paint".
Any suggestions?

Using After Effects CS6 trying to open a project that was created in AE CS5.5
Running Mac OS X 10.7.4 on a Mac Pro with an ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB graphics card
2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
24 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Source footage is mostly DPX files, some ProRes quicktimes and PSD files as well. It's a rather large project. The project file weighs in at 328 MB
Not running any other software. still crashes.
I do have Flip4Mac installed... The project also references missing plug-ins. See screencap. These plugins are in the project but are not turned on...
Thats the error.
I disabled render frames simultaneously. I tried enabling caps lock, still crashes. One thing to note is the project pieces start showing up before it crashes, so it is loading most if not all of the project before it crashes... Anything else that might be important to figuring this out?

InCopy CS5 with InDesign CS4

Folks,
A customer of ours have a fwe licences of InDesign CS4, and are looking to put InCopy on a few more desks. They're a charity, so it'll be EDU licences, and they really don't want to have to upgrade their existing CS4 to CS5.
Is there likely to be any issue in them mixing-and-matching like this? Clearly, InCopy CS5 is going to work quite happily with InDesign CS4 files, but what about if those files then get passed back?
I'm presuming that I'm going to find it very hard work to find any InCopy CS4 licences still in the distie channel - it's been enough of a ball-ache just getting pricing...

Don't even think about doing it. At the very least text will reflow differently from InCopy to InDesign and from InDesign to InCopy.

I'm trying to open Mac based indesign cc files in PC with no luck

I get the error message that no plugins are present but they are in the PC Adobe directory. I don't have access onto the mac as it password protected but was able to offload all the files so I can't convert them to older format. How do I get the files to recognize the plugins on my PC?

Mac and Windows INDD files are identical. The only time you should see this is if you tried to open an INDD file created in a later version of InDesign.
Given that you have supplied nothing in the way of details for InDesign versions, operating systems and exact error messages, that’s the best I can do.

Cannot Open files in InDesign CS4

Yesterday I was working on a file located on a network computer. I have been working on this file for a month or so, everytime it worked just fine. Today I come in to work, and Indesign does not wan to open the file it gives me this error: Cannnot open the file "XXXXX.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the dile may be open in anotther application.
The weird part is that I have been working on this same file many time without problems. And this is not happening on my computer only but on my co-workers computer as well. We can open any file but files from this network computer cannot be open. Even the file and all the files in this network computer cannot be open and the Indesign Icon doesnt show next to the file name.
Has anybody gone though this? Please shine some light.

I have confirmed it is the Cryptolocker. It came in from a coworkers computer and infected our network drive. I do have a good antivirus but it didnt come from my end. I have been reading online quite a bit and there is no solution other that recovering from back up which I do not have, or paying the ransom. Either way I apprciate your help, and the time you have invested in this matter.

Opening CS5 projects in CS4?

Im still using AE CS4 and I'm trying to work on a project with someone using CS5, but I'm unable to open his .aep. Is there a way for him to save his CS5 project so that it can CS4 can open it?

Sorry, there is not a way. AE has never been able to do it officially. There were hacks that worked sometimes in earlier versions, but not between AE 9 & AE 10. AE 9 is 32-bit, and AE 10 is 64-bit, a very fundamental difference.
You would need your buddy to replicate his AE 10 work in AE 9, or you could import rendered files from your buddy. But that's it.
How 'bout AE 10 & AE 10.5? You can backsave from 10.5 to 10 as long as the project contains none of 10.5's new features like Warp Stabilizer.

AE CS6 crashes while trying to open CS5 project

First issue that comes upon opening a particular CS5 project into CS6 is that DE_FreeForm plug-in is notified as missing. Ok. Then tries to load a comp and crashes. Project opens fine in CS5. I removed DE_FreeFormAE, will not open in CS6. Help please.

From WHERE did you remove the plugin? From the footage in question in the CS5 project file? Or somewhere else?

Adobe Photoshop CS6 tries to open Bridge with deleted CS4?

After upgrading to Windows 8 on two computers with same CS6 Premium installed programs...the desktop is showing "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64bit)\ Photoshop.exe" when I try to move image from Bridge CS6 to Photoshop CS6 (No problems on the laptop - works fine there). So I'm assuming it is not Win 8 that is the problem but rather the file extention...and alas, I a tad afraid to fiddle with it. If someone can tell me how to change where Bridge is trying to move image...to.

Hi again, it appears now when I try to open a pdf document with Photoshop CS6 the dreaded “Photoshop CS4” shows up again. And of course there is no association for this program as it has been removed. Why Bridge CS6 would connect to that at all is beyond me. I changed all the extensions that had Photoshop (no CS info) to Photoshop CS6 in the Edit/Preferences but frankly I’ve no idea which extension refers to the conversion from PDF to PSD file. I was afraid to change it to ‘default’ (as it said changes would be permenant) as I’m not sure how Win8 has designated CS4 rather than CS6

Indesign CS5.5 cannot open CS5.5 indesign file

Hello all,
I created an InDesign CS5.5 file yesterday and today i can't open it anymore from the officer server.
When the file is on the server at the office and i try to open it, a pop-up shows this:
"Cannot open the file "filename.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application".
It doesn't work for any other InDesign files on the server neither and it is not open in another application or on another computer at the office.
When i transfer that file on my desktop it works fine, but i can't work that way at the office of course.
Has someone an answer to that ?

Since you've shown us the folder contents it's a good bet it isn't in use (no lock file). And it doesn't look like the file is mis-named as there doesn't seem to be anything else there that would be the .indd file (but just in case, open it in TextEdit and paste the first few lines here so we can see what the file header says), so the most likely case is the file is damaged. Is that on a removable device of some sort?
You can try the tool at Repair corrupt InDesign Adobe files on Mac OS X or send me a link to the file by private message and I'll try the recovery tool I have for Windows.

CS5.7 cannot open CS5.5 Indesign files

Hi, we have several designers located around the globe, that all need to be able to access & change the same design files, mostly Indesign. They are all using Applemacs, but all have different CS versions, i.e. CS5.5, 5.7 and 6.8.0.1. We already had problems where a 5.7 user couldn't open a file saved by a 5.5 user. If my logic serves me correct, newer versions of software should be able to open older versions' files, but the opposite would not be necessarily true. Or does CS operate differently?
Do you have any advice, please are they doing something wrong?

Can't open file: SharedContent.InDesignPlugin CS4

I have a problem with InDesign CS4.
When I try yo open a CS4(!) file it says:
The document "filename.indd" uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?
If I chose: "OK' it says:
Cannot open "filename.indd". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign.
The only answers I could find by looking online is that I am using an older version of InDesign and that the file is created in a newer version. But when I look at the type of the file I am trying to open it says: InDesign® CS4 Document. So I should be able to open it with InDesign CS4 right?

The operating system cannot distinguish a newer version of InDesign if it's never been installed. They only associate an INDD files with the version of InDesign YOU have installed—InDesign CS4.
You need to notify the person who sent you the file to export an IDML file so you can open it in InDesign CS4.
