Trying to restore my iPhone 5 from a backup but its says that it will take over 24 hours to finish. Is there something I can try to do to speed this up? I feel like it shouldn't take this long
So I have been restoring my iPhone5 from a backup for about 3 hours now however iTunes still says that it is going to take over 24 hours to complete the restore process and the progress bar hasn't moved much at all. I feel like something has gone wrong somehow and it shouldn't take this long to complete. Is there something I can do to speed up this process or do I just have to try to wait it out? I'm scared to just unplug my phone and try again since it might screw something up.
if u unplug then that could put ur device into recovery mode. i would wait

Your backup became encrypted. Keep trying various passwords but unless you successfully enter the correct password, you will not be able to restore your phone from that backup

You can't chose what to include/exclude with a restore, you can restore the whole backup (including settings) or not restore. I'm assuming that the passcode was on the iPhone when you last backed up, in which case (apart from remembering it) the only way to remove the code is to restore back to factory defaults.

I'm trying to open an AVI from a disc, but QT says that a codec is missing. Any ideas?
All my systems are up-to-date, and I've tried opening with Flip4Mac, but the file just opens in QT anyway. Any help would be appreciated.
Okay... So, I DLed Perian, Ctrl-Clicked on the AVI file and selected it using Open With. It started opening, and then Quick Time jumped in over it, and I get the same error message as usual. Should I try the other programs on Perian's page?
I would work on one problem at a time. If, as you indicated, you have already installed the Perian package located at the URL posted by QTKirk, the next QT playback question would be, "Do you have the QT 7 Player v7.6.6. also installed?" followed by "Did you try playing the file in the QT 7 Player app?" As previously noted, the Perian support may require access to the 32-bit routines embedded in your system OS via the QT 7 app. Normally, if both QT X and QT 7 are installed on your system and if QT X does not support file playback, the system may ask if you wish to open the file with the QT 7 app. If you don't have QT 7 installed on your system and QT X cannot play the file using the Perian codec component support, then you will likely continue to receive the "missing codec" modal message.
If you have not already downloaded and installed the QT 7 v7.6.6 Player, I would recommend you do so now using the instructions and download link found HERE. Please note that both players may be simultaneously installed and used on your Lion system but they should be left in their default installed locations. (I.e., QT X is isnstalled in your "Applications" folder while QT 7 is placed in your "Applications/Utilities" folder.) I usually keep both apps in my dock for easy access. In any event, when it is installed, try playing the AVI file using the QT 7 Player app which will likely require manual opening/path navigation. If the file opens and plays back correctly, then you know the codecs involved are only supported in the older "legacy" player.
If the file still does not open correctly, my recommendation would then be to download and try playing the AVI files using the free VLC media player. I keep this app installed as my primary backup media player for files which are not otherwise supported on my system (e.g., those using esoteric AVI codecs, BD exports to MKV, etc). -
Updated iPad 1 to IOS 5. When trying to restore my iPad from my backup it gets half way through and the iPad reboots and iTunes says "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1)"
I have tried to restore my contacts and company data at least 20 times and every time half way through THE iPAD REBOOTS! When it boots back up it is at the brand new iPad screen.
This makes me angry as I do not use the iPad for fun and games. I use it for business. My company data and records for the last year are gone. ALL of my out standing customer invoices are gone. What am I supposed to do now? In 6 hours I have to get on the road and conduct business with a empty blank factory out of the box iPad. How am I supposed to know who owes me money or who has paid their bills Apple? All of my meetings and calendar dates are GONE!
Everything was supposed to be backed up and restored after the update!

Yes! I have done everything. Rebooted computer, checked for updates, Hard booted iPad, Factory restored iPad to ios 5 twice, tried every usb port I have, unplugged all other usb components.
Everytime half way through "Restoring iPad from backup..." The iPad turns off shows a spinning circle then shows the Apple logo and takes me to the brand new iPad setup screen.
Apple, you have no idea the level of stress you have created today.....Check the console app to see if there are any error messages. I had one app showing an issue (Pet Hotel) the error was (truncated):

I manually snyc'ed that particular app and then re-ran the restore and am now the proud owner of a working iphone. Not sure it is the same problem or app but looking in the console was the key! -

You can't get it reset; if you could there would be no point in having it. If you have an encrypted backup there are two ways this could have happened:
You checked "Encrypt Backup" in iTunes at some time in the past, either intentionally or by accident

I was attempting to update my ipad to the newest OS system and it crashed... I came back with it saying that it had an error and did not update. Now I only get the iTunes logo on the ipad witht he usb cord picture.
I have gone into iTunes & it says I have to do a restore. But it does not give me the RESTORE from Backup option. Only the Restore to Factory Settings. Is this normal?

I am just trying to restore my photos from my pc to my phone that i have backed up already on my icloud but do not know how to do this on my iphone 6 ios 8.3
If the iPhone is still working and the photos are in the Camera Roll (i.e., taken on the iPhone) then, when you connect the iPhone to your PC, it should be recognized as a Camera and Windows should start AutoPlay.

I restored my iphone from a backup that is about one month old (because all my contacts had disappeared). Is it possible to retrieve the text messages that occurred after that back up. They disappeared after the restore.
I don't know if I'm on the same page as you.
But if you backed up the phone with those contacts pictures notes etc, you should get them back.
