Trying to restore new 5s

can someone help me please? i upgraded my 4s to a 5s today and backed up my old 4s via i tunes but when ive restored it on my 5s via i tunes none of my music has gone across to my new phone apart from the music ive purchased from i tunes. as ive got a new laptop i no longer have the music thats on my old 4s so cant manualy put it onto new 5s.
also i have an app "cartoon hd" that is no longer available on i tunes that hasnt gone across to my new 5s, ive tries backing up my old phone via the cloud and still cant get that app onto my new phone.
im a self confessed dummy when it comes to using i tunes so hopefully its something im doing wrong... can someone please give me some advice on how i can solve either of these problems.
thank you

Music is NOT part of the backup. It should be in the iTunes library on your computer.
If you no longer have the music, and don't have the original CD's, etc. then you no longer own the music.
Apps also are not part of the backup. If they are in your iTunes library, they should have re-installed after the restore. If the app is no longer available in the app store, and you don't have a copy of it in the iTunes library on your computer, you need to import the purchased items from the old phone to iTunes so you can sync it back to the new phone.

  • Trying to restore new iPhone to old one's settings. Please help!

Hi there! I had to swap out my iPhone today for a new one, the receiver was no longer working. I had backed up my iPhone before taking it in to get switched, and now I'm trying to restore it back to my old phone's settings. When I plugged in my new one to iTunes, it said I had to first update the software on the phone before restoring the old settings. I did this and now can not figure out how to go back and restore those old settings
If anyone could help I would be beyond grateful!
    Thank ya'll so much!
    xx

Restore the iPhone with iTunes. Restoring from the backup is the default selection when doing so after the iOS is reinstalled. Select from the backup for your previous iPhone when prompted if not selected by default.

  • Trying to Restore new hard drive via TC backup

I purchased a new Seagate 750GB hard drive to replace the 500GB hard drive which only had 19GB of free space available.  I installed the new hard drive in my MBP 17" and here is where I am unsure if what I did was correct.
I inserted the original MAC OS X Install DVD (v. 10.5.7).  4 months ago I upgraded to v 10.6.8 but for some reason I cannot locate the disk so I inserted the orignal that with my MBP.  I should say that I back up my MBP to my TC wirelessly but my initial backup of the entire hard drive was originally completed via CAT5 connection.
After I inserted the original install DVD I chose the option in Disk Utility to Restore From Backup.  I went through the back up process overnight and this morning the restore was completed.  I click on the button command to reboot the computer and it began the process of rebooting.
Upon rebooting a blank screen popped up with several lines of data (data looked like it was in DOS form) and the a box with a message that said "Your computer must be restarted).  It had this message displayed in several languages.
If someone can help me with the following I would be very appreciative.
    1.  Direct me to the procedure for restoring my MBP using the most recent back up on my TC.
    2.  How do I override the message on my MBP that says I need to restart my computer.  I restart it and the message keeps popping up.

In your Applicaiton's > Utilities folder is a program called Disk Utility.
It manages and repairs drives, sets up partitions, erases drives and partitions, changes drive formats and other things, like repairing disks and permissions.
"Permissions" are per file codes that prevent other programs from reading and/or writing and/or changing the data the file contains. If a program doesn't have permissions to access a file it can't do anything harmful.
It's this permisisons based operating system that gives OS X's "Unix" such excellent security protection.
When a clone occurs, or even a Software Update (under the Apple Menu), you give the program your admin password, which allows it to make permission file changes. Or how else can it clone the whole drive or update the operating system right?
It's these changes that likely need to be changed back to their original settings as a double check just to make sure.
Before you go seriously changing things around in Disk Utility, make sure you know what your doing.
Erasing of data can occur there, but not to your boot drive while booted from it as it won't allow it.
However while booted from the 500GB drive, you do want to erase and reformat the new 750GB drive and rid yourself of the 10.5 install you did there as it's useless (grab a copy of any files you made there first)

  • Trying to restore new computer with previous backup

I purchased a new mac book and am trying to set it up with a previous mac book backup. At the new computer startup it asked if I have a backup to use and that part went fine. Now I am in the "checking Time Machine Backup" mode with the rainbow wheel and have been for about 30 minutes. Is this normal? or do I need to start over. I am doing this wireless. I should have hardwired it buy now I am afraid to turn it off.
    Thanks in advance for advice

I guess it just takes time. It did finally go the the next after a couple of hours. Now I have a progress bar saying 2 more hours. If it works okay then I guess its worth the wait. Just seems like a long time to sync?

  • "No Backups Available" when trying to restore new iPhone

I have a new iPhone and tried to backup from iCloud but it says "no backups available" - is this because this new phone is on 5.0.1 and the old phone was on 5.1?

That means that you have an encrypted backup. When the backup was created, you had to have entered a password for the backup. If you do not remember that password, then you cannot use that backup without finding a way to decrypt the backup, which Apple does not support. A google search for "iTunes Backup decryption" should yeild results.

  • HT1766 I am trying to restore a new replacement phone from an icloud backup but it is telling me there is a problem with backup data. The backup was done under 7.1 and I think the new phone still just has 7.04. My itunes backup was lost last week...sugges

I am trying to restore from icloud but it appears the 7.1 it was backed up in and the 7.04 on the new phone won't allow it. My itunes library was lost last week due to computer crashing and having to be restored. I have a clean very current icloud back up done on March 21st but I cant seem to get it there. Suggestions please?

You will have to update the iPhone to iOS 7.1 if that is the iOS the backup was done in. You cannot restore a newer iOS update to a phone with older iOS. Once you update the phone, you will be able to restore the backup.

  • I am trying to restore a new iPad from iCloud but it is saying there 'are no iCloud backups are compatible with the version of iOS (6.0) on this ipad' my previous back ups had been iOS 6.1.2

    Please help

I think that imobl hit the nail on the head.
The OP is trying to restore an iOS 6.1.2 backup on his new iPad that is only running 6.0. You can't restore from a newer iOS backup to an older iOS. The OP has to update the new iPad to iOS 6.1.2 and then it will work.

At startup hold down the Command+Option/Alt+r keys until you see a globe on the screen. Then use disk utility to partition and format the drive HSF+ and then select Reinstall Mac OS X. whatever version of OS X that originally came on your system will be installed and then you can upgrade back to Mavericks.

Migration Assistant (Finder > Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant) is the tool that you would use to restore backups from older Macs to another Mac.
Details are here:   http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html   The same info applies for Mavericks and Yosemite.   If you are saying that this is a "no go".....where are you getting stuck?  What error messages do you see?

    Try here:

You said you restored the iPod. Was the restore successful, that is, it went though all the steps without errors?
Try a restore to factory settings/new iPod if yuhave not doe so so far.
Are you  using the headphones that came with the iPod? Are you inserting the plug fully
Have you tried another set of headphones in the iPod?
The speaker is not that loud.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
