Trying to set up brand new iPod shuffle (4th gen) in iTunes, but it says "The iPod software update server could not be contacted."
I just bought a 4th generation iPod shuffle from the store. At the end of the iPod set-up in iTunes, whenever I click "done" a message pops up that says, "The iPod software update server could not be contacted."

I've been trying to restore my phone the whole day and every time that's about to finish the extration this message comes up " The iphone cannot be restored at this time because the iphone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable"
Do anyone know if there's a way to fix this? It's in DFU mode so I can't do anything with it anymore, i have no phone.

Maybe you should check your HOSTS file to make sure nothing is stopping you from contacting Apple's servers - though if you're not looking to update you might still be out of luck. Also, maybe disable IP blacklist apps like PeerBlock just in case they're interfering with your connection to Apple.

cannot find the update server. What does that mean?I don't have any anti-virus software active nor a firewall & am getting the same message! Have not been able to update 3GS phone for a year because iphone server won't download update! I downloaded Lion and icloud last week on my iMac that I purchased in May. When I plug in my iphone 3gs or ipad 1 I get the message "the iphone (ipad) software server could not be contacted." Can anyone advise me what to do? I am very ignorant when it comes to using my my Mac and don't know how to do much of anything and not familiar with the lingo do please be patient with me! When I was updating my child's ipod touch with itunes....it put the ipod in recovery mode and said I would need to restore and then update....which was my only option to choose, so when I chose restore & update....after going thru it seemed the process, then a window came up that stated the ipod couldn't be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable and to try again. After trying this several times unsuccessfuly and going thru the steps on the help section, the ipod is still not able to restore & update, thus we can't access anything on our very new ipod touch and I am very frustrated, can't afford any Apple support tech time. PLEASE HELP!!

my IPAD won't accept my wi-fi password. I have tried resetting all settings and network settings but still won't accept it. Can't download to new version of IOS either, says software update server could not be contacted.
Yes I have put in the correct password, its all numbers so can't get it wrong really.
It has connected before as has my iPod and that won't connect either. I have checked that they aren't on the blocked list of the wi fi. Managed to download the new version of iOS and that hasn't made a difference.
I have the wi fi plugged directly into the computer rather than the booster hub as the computer won't connect to it when its in the hub. I did get the iPad to connect to the internet when it twas in the hub but once I upgraded the iOS it won't accept the wifi password in the hub either. -

trying to update 2 ipods but when I go through the process it says "The ipod software update server could not be contacted" "Network connection could not be established". One of the ipods is locked and I don't remember password.
Here's what you can do in case of the forgotten password:
Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to rest the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

"iPod software update server could not be contacted. The Server does not support this version of iTunes." iPod will not turn on or charge or reset settings. I tried plugging it in my laptop, house computer and docking station to charge and nothing. Also, I have all the latest software updates to my knowledge. This is a classic 8GB iPod, running of Windows 7. Any thoughts/suggestions?
