Trying to update iPhoto from version 2, missing versions on Apple site

I am trying to move up to the most current version of iPhoto that I am allowed. You can see the versions of the related software that is dependent for this update in my details.
The earlist version that can find is 4.0.3 but when I download this and try to install it, the installation fails and I am warned that the install cannot find either version 4.0 or 4.0.1 of iPhoto.
There are apparently no versions below version 4.0.3 so I am stuck despite the fact that I am owed versions up to 5 or 6.
Any help would be greatly appreciatted.

Garrett: Apple does not pretend that iLife is free, nor is it included when you buy an Apple operating system. iLife is included with the purchase of some new Macs, but any subsequent upgrades must be paid for, just as upgrades to any other commercial software must be paid for. (I received the full version of Photoshop 2.5 bundled with a $1200 scanner about 12 years ago, but you'd better believe Adobe doesn't think that entitles me to free upgrades of Photoshop for life.)
You apparently got iPhoto 2 free, no strings attached. Apple isn't forcing you to upgrade it. It's not a professional tool, and never pretended to be one. There are equal or better alternatives available quite inexpensively for many of the purposes that iPhoto serves. The same is true of iCal and the Address Book. People who like iLife like it because it integrates many functions well. Those who don't care about that integration or about some of those functions often see iLife as a bundle of less-than-professional apps in which capabilities that are of no interest inflate the cost of those that are useful. Is the glass half full or half empty? You have to decide for yourself, and it sounds as though you have. But Apple hasn't been dishonest with you: the fact that you needed to buy iPhoto 4,5, or 6 if you wanted to upgrade to 4.x, 5.x or 6.x was right there in the System Requirements for each of the updaters, and of course you are perfectly free to go on using the software you got for free without upgrading it.

  • I'm trying to update iPhoto 7.1.5 to current versions so I can get my photos onto iCloud to access from my iPad.  I can't seem to find an upgrade route that will work?  Any suggestions?

I'm trying to update iPhoto 7.1.5 on my old iMac (running  10.9.5) to current versions so I can get my photos onto iCloud to access from my iPad.  I can't seem to find an upgrade route that will work?  Any suggestions?

For Mavericks you need to upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1.
You cannot buy this version from the AppStore, since the current version is iPhoto 9.6, and that requires Yosemite. The easiest route for you would be to upgrade to Yosemite. Then you can simply buy the newest version of iPhoto from the App Store and can use iCloud Photo Library (iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ), once it has been release for the Mac as well early next year.
If you want to stick with Mavericks, you'll have limited iCloud features, only the Photo Streams  (iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ), but no iCloud Drive (iCloud Drive FAQ) and iCloud Photo Library.  And to upgrade iPhoto you need to buy an iPhoto '11 installer. It comes as part of iLife '11. You can try to buy a boxed version from Amazon or try to find it at eBay.  Once installed on Mavericks, download the iPhoto '11 updaters from the apple Support Downloads page.

That's because the Mac, OS X and the iLife apps that came preinstalled on the Mac all belong to the previous owner. The previous owner needs to call Apple care and have their Apple ID disassociated from the Mac. Then the hard drive needs to be totally erased and OS X and the iLife apps reinstalled using OS X Recovery.

  • Can I update iPhoto from version 8.1.2 to 9 or higher versionfor free?

Can I update iPhoto from version 8.1.2 to 9 or higher versionfor free?

Is your profile signature "Mac OS X (10.6.8)" still current? With that MacOS X version you can upgrade to iPhoto 9.2.x. Only, the iPhoto version 9.5.1 currently sold at the AppStore requires MacOS X 10.9.x. If you you are not running Mavericks, you could try to buy a boxed retail version of iLife '11. That will have a compatible early iPhoto 9.x version.

That Error message is indicative of a Hardware issue. The Device may need Service. Take it in for evaluation.

With Yosemite you need to update to iPhoto 9.6.
The error message means, that iPhoto has not been associated with your AppleID. You do not say, which iPhoto version you are trying to update from.
Associating iPhoto with your AppleID should have happened, when you bought the computer with iPhoto preinstalled with MacOS X Lion or later or with the Mavericks upgrade, if your Mac came with SnowLeopard. Try, if you can "accept" iPhoto now:
Sign into the AppStore with your AppleID
Open the "Purchased" tab. Do you see iPhoto with an "Accept" button?
Accepting associates your Apple ID with the preinstalled iPhoto. It should move iPhoto from the "Accept" portion of the App Store to the "Purchased" tab. After that, you should be able to update iPhoto from the Updates tab of the AppStore. If you do you not see the update there, try to buy iPhoto. iPhoto may show for free, so you do not have to pay again.
Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, otherwise you cannot buy it again. But do not empty the Trash, so you can put iPhoto back, if need be.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Open the main page "Featured" of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support to sort out the AppleID. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/
After you update iPhoto, your iPhoto Library will need upgrading. Make a backup of your iPhoto Library, before you open iPhoto the first time after updating.

  • Trying to Update iPhoto 6.0.6

Hello, I have a feeling there is no way to do this but I am trying to update iPhoto 6.0.6 however I can't find the Updates available before 7.1.0. I need 7.0.1 and so on but those updates are no where to be found. I'm assuming Version 7 had to be purchased from the store is that correct? If so I'll just stick with what I have.

I'm assuming Version 7 had to be purchased from the store is that correct?
Yes. No free updater will change the first digit of the version, except for the now-pulled 2.0 and 2.0.1.

    Dear Brother David,
You are way out of order and actually just wrong and seem to lack any empathy or understanding for users, let alone anything other than text book/google regurgitations.
I thank you for highlighting your illusions of granduer  and for your wonderful, thoughful and intelligent insults.
I re- post a fix below that worked for me:
As a user and you may find this bug, you can either ring apple or try the below,
All my apps now appear in the purchases section of App store and iMovie also updated itself.
I have only one ID software is presinstalled and software was "not hidden" or even showing...I just got various error messages and ID errors.
It was not spotlight indexing either.
    cheers

I had a similiar problem that I fixed doing this:
    Close Mac App Store
    Go into this folder
    /Library/Application Support/App Store
Drag this file to the desktop
    adoption.plist
Repen Mac App Store and log in
If it fixes your problem, great, if not, you can move the old adoption.plist file back"

  • I just updated my macbook pro to 10.6 and I tried to update iphoto and it said i needed  10.7 or later and checked and computer says i have the most up to date softwear

i just updated my mac book to 10.6 says its the latest update and i tried to update iphoto and says i need 10.7 but my compture says 10.6 is the most up to date.  Help

Software, as in applications, maybe. Software as in Operating System, heck no. We're now at 10.8 level, you're two levels behind. Latest iPhoto, as in v9.3.2, is part of iLife'11 and needs a minimum of Lion 10.7 to run.
Since Mountain Lion 10.8 came out, Apple has dropped support for Snow Leopard 10.7, since they only maintain the latest two versions of the OS. So you will be seeing more and more of these "unupgradeable upgrades" in the coming days.

Go here: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750 and download iOS 4.2.1 for the iPhone 3G. Perform a restore, but hold down ALT when clicking restore. Restore from this file you just downloaded. You should not get 1015 as you are upgrading, but if you get a different error, report back.

How do i update it to the most current iPhoto.????
Make sure, you have a current backup of your Mac, i.e. your iPhoto Library. On no account risk the upgrade without a current backup. After upgrading to a newer iPhoto version, iPhoto will need to upgrade the iPhoto Library as well. Due to a current bug, the upgrade may go wrong and leave your iPhoto library damaged, if the system should crash during the upgrade, because of running out of storage or similar.
As Larry pointed out, the current iPhoto version 9.6 requires Yosemite, and the App Store will not offer the last compatible version for Mavericks. To upgrade to 9.6 you need to upgrade to Yosemite as well.
You should finish any book projects before upgrading, because the upgrade will change the themes of the books. So your books may change a bit after upgrading.

  • After installing mavericks apple id is greyed out in app store when trying to update iPhoto

after installing mavericks apple id is greyed out in app store when trying to update iPhoto. How to update iphoto?

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
    Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
    Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • Can't update iphoto from the apps store

I purchased iphoto from the apps store (version 9.1.1) to replace/upgrade the version that came with my 2008 imac, but have been unable to update to the current version 9.1.5. When I attempt to update (and the apps store tells me there is an update available for my purchase) a dialog box tells me to log into the account which i used to purchase the program notwithstanding that I am logged into the account.  Any suggestions as how to solve this problem?

I imagine if you delete the iPhoto app, you should be able to download and install the current version from the app store without problem. The conflict is probably because the version you purchased is disc based.
Prior to doing this, make sure you backup your hard drive so that you can restore in case you accidentally delete something that you need.
