Trying to upgrade my OS to Yosemite from 10.6.8, but it doesn't want to work.
I have to upgrade my operating system to Yosemite from 10.6.8. I've already checked to see what app compatibility problems I'll have to deal with, so I know pretty much what to expect. But when I go in to the Mac App Store and hit Upgrade Now, it sends me to a page that says Mac App Store Preview / OS X Yosemite. Then when I hit the View in Mac App Store button, it won't do anything, so I hit the link at the top of the page that says How to Upgrade, and it sends me to an instruction page that consists of a checklist of things to check on and the general requirements for the upgrade. Then when I hit the Upgrade Now button, it sends me back to that first Mac App Store Preview page that I was at before, with no way to get it to upgrade from there. If someone could please give me some advice as to how to go about this upgrade, I'd be extremely appreciative.
It won't work the way you're trying to do it.
Launch the App Store App on your Mac. You should see a search field along the top to the right. Key in Yosemite in the search field. From the resulting list you should see the OS X Yosemite Icon. Click the install/download button.
Tips to try and make this as smooth as possible:
Before doing anything do a backup of anything important - the whole system if possible. That way you can re-install if things don't work out - yes sometimes they don't. If connecting wirelessly try and make sure you're as close to the wireless access point (your router) as possible so as to maintain a good wireless connection; quit out of all applications; be patient, leave it alone and let it do what it has to do and follow any on-screen prompts.

ok so first off I have no problem with panther. I have been happy with my powerbook b4 titanium for the past 6 years now. but now that I went and bought a new iphone 3G , my powerbook doesn't support it. fortunately I converted my parents over to mac last year and they have a i-mac that does support it. but I dont want to have to go to their place to sync my iphone ... I am going to buy another mac even though I really dont want to spend the money but for the time being I need the help to get tiger on this laptop.

ok so I have 2 CD's for OSX 10.4.7
I put the first CD in and I get the big error screen and the last command or statement darwin makes is "we are hanging here" what ever that means. but thats all it will do. the cd reads fine while OSX is up and reading files.
any ideas?I hate to interrupt your fuming, Joshua, but those Apple "nazis" do still sell Tiger as of a few days ago. Call 1-800-SOS-APPL and ask for Phone Sales (not iPhone sales, but a sales department that only operates over the phone, not through the online store).
As for "I just love how they dont support older products anymore," I think if you look around a little, you'll discover that Microsoft doesn't sell outdated versions of its OS any more, and most car manufacturers aren't selling their 2005 car models any more either. In fact the practice of not selling discontinued, superseded products is standard across most industries. Apple's continued selling of Tiger long after the introduction of Leopard is quite unusual.
And as for the "nazi" practice of not allowing you to install Tiger on your Powerbook from the Intel iMac's discs, the machines use entirely different architectures, and the iMac discs are configured specifically for the Intel architecture. The OS on them is also licensed for use on only one computer, not multiple computers, as you would know if you read the license agreement. And while you may never have encountered this limitation before, the discs that are shipped with every Mac have always, since the mac's earliest days, been specific to that machine model and, in all but a few exceptional (and accidental) cases, unusable on any other model. Apple has never changed this longstanding policy/practice. It's nothing new. -
Tried to upgrade to osx 10.9 from 10.7 and I didn't notice that it downloads in the launcher. I turned my mac off and ever since then it has glitched out and will not download no matter what I do. I have had it for 3 years which is out of warranty. It now has a blank bar under the launch pad and no matter how many times I try re-downloading it or restarting my computer it does not work. I use too play starcraft and other games on this computer although new patched/updates have made it that I can no longer do that now. Really frustrating having to deal with this especially after buying this computer upfront and now out of warranty.
Go to your Applications folder and find a file called "Install OS X Mavericks". Send it to the trash and delete it. Then try the download again.

I used to be able to download files from the Harddrive of my Sony Handycam, but now it won't let me import them while going through "log and transfer." I have tried to update my settings, but this doesn't seem to work. Any help would be much appreciated

Just needed some info on what is going on with your particular system.
Knowing the exact camera model will also assist us.
If this camera is standard AVCHD you should be able to connect with USB to Mac with FCE open and use Log and Transfer without all the fiddling around converting etc.
What FCE does during ingest is convert files to AIC. (Apple Intermediate Codec)
FCE cannot read the individual files in the BDMV folder, that's why all the converting is required when you use that method.
BTW: regards formatting drives/cards/memory on cameras; it is wise to use the actual device to format rather than a computer. This is a prime cause of read/write goof ups with solid state media. This applies to still or video cameras.
Keeping the COMPLETE card/memory structure in tact is vital for successful transfers.

Instead of printing it, try saving it as a pdf from the print menu, and then printing the pdf out.

my ipad is on an infinite loop. I used ios7 for a few days and then did updates on some of my apps. that's when the infinite loop started. I have tried pressing the power and home button at the same time, but it doesn't work. Please help!

I did manage to get a different screen that shows the itunes icon and a power cord, but nothing happens.You were on the right track. You got the connect to iTunes screen and you ended to use iTujes to restore your iPad. Try recovery mode again.
Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore iPad. -
I have my entire music library (purchased and burnt CD's) on my iPod Touch from one computer and I wanted to sync it all to my new computer. I was hoping it would all transfer via sync when I plugged it in but it doesn't seem to work. Please help?!
Ok, I had a glitch, forced to restart, and lost my train of thought.
Reinstalling iTunes should fix the major issue that might have gone wrong, perhaps your explaination points will disappear and everything will be peachy again.
But if they don't, you can open the XML file in iTunes Folder using a Text edit program to see what the common pathname is to the iTunes Music folder or where your content is located.
If you moved the itunes folder, it needs to go back.
I can't download iTunes to my Vista virtual machine to test it out right now because iTunes is down, so I can't verify the pathname, perhaps your issue and the iTunes being down are related somehow?
You don't want to import all your music again, but it's a option, but you lose all your playlists, that's what I'm trying to recover.
If oyu don't have a whole lot of playlists, then simply select all the explaimation point music and delete, select File from the menu and import your itunes folder again. -

If I understand you correctly, you are asking how to resize your partitions for MacOS and Windows (Boot Camp) you don't want to reboot the computer to do it. If that is correct, then I don't know of any way for you to do what you want. In order to resize the partitions, you will need to reboot the OS that is running from the partitions, preferably exit the OS, resize the partitions, then restart the OS, so it has a clean view of the disk.

I'm trying to update apps and download new ones on mi ipad, but it doesn't work... the icons say "waiting" and nothing happens for days!Help!
Here are a bunch of things that you can try to get the downloads to resume.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.
