Trying to upload video from iPad 2 to Windows 7 PC

I cannot find a clear description of how to upload a video made on the iPad 2 to my PC (Windows 7).  Ultimately I want to copy to DVD to allow play on a TV via DVD.  I've searched through the technical support, but I'm not finding much that really seems to address the problem, even though this looks like it would be a common issue.
I made a video of our Christmas cantata using my iPad 2.  It's 1 hour 13 minutes long.  The only way that I've found that seems to allow a transfer to the PC is a Camera Upload via Dropbox.  The format is .mov, which will not play on my PC. It's also only 750 MB in size, which leads me to believe that it's being compressed for transfer.  So here are some questions:
What format is the iPad 2 using for making videos, .mov or .mp4 or ????  I was expecting .mp4; where does the .mov come from?
Is the file being compressed by some other operation to transfer in Dropbox?  While I was preparing for making the video, I ran several trials and it seemed like the files were easily in the GB range.  Does 750 MB sound right?  Recommended way to play .mov files on PC or for TV?
How do I get files to my PC?  My understanding is that iTunes can be used to download from PC to iPad but not to upload from iPad to PC.
Thanks.

If you shot it with your iPad's camera then the video should be in the DCIM folder.
DCIM is where the ipad mimicks a digital camera and in using that you can simply drag and drop files off your iPad's camera roll into your computer.
Connect the ipad to your computer and using windows explorer, look for your iPad. (in windows 7 you should see the little manilla folder with 3 colored dots and a bluish silver upside down U)
Click/double click on that and you should see all the folders and devices attached to your computer. One of them will be your iPad. Double click on that and drill down to the DCIM folder. Inside that you should see several folders with random letter/number names. Explore those until you find your video then simply drag/drop it off your iPad onto your computer's harddrive.

Have you created a printer instance in your system, that corresponds to the physical printer?
System Preferences / Print & Scan, click on the plus + button and find your printer: IP, Windows or Bonjour (Default). Make sure the correct driver is selected and that any user-configurable settings (internal drive, duplex unit, etc.) are correctly set.

Pn the iPad/iPhone app, you can upload videos that were taken on the iPad/iPhone. You upload them the same way you do a photo, see this link:

  • I'm trying to upload videos from my Sony HDR-CX550 camera and the files that contain the video (.cpi or .mts) are all grayed out on iMovie. I've been able to upload footage before onto Apple computers but now it doesn't seem to be working. Suggestions?

I've tried many different options including calling Apple Customer Support and talking to them for over an hour troubleshooting the issue. They couldn't do anything. I also called Sony who failed as well. Somebody please help me out. Thanks!

    Hello whatif95,
Sorry to hear that you are having trouble importing video from your Sony HDR-CX550.  I found an article that provides some information specific to your camera and iMovie '09:
iMovie: Importing both HD and SD content with Sony HDR series cameras
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1793
For versions previous to iMovie ’11 v9.0.1, including iMovie ’08, ’09, and ’11 (v9.0 only):
To import the AVCHD content from the camera when MPEG-2 content has also been recorded, you must first import and erase the MPEG-2 content from the camera. You should then be able to import the AVCHD content.
    I hope this helps!
    Best,

  • When uploading video from go pro and sonyhandy cam, takes forever and clips says hidden camera

Tried to upload video from sony handycam and also gopro...takes hours, and only can view the first half of clips. The rest of the clips have ? and say hidden camera. This is in Imovie. Both camera's are on the imovie compatible list. Any ideas?

I am only bumping your post up, I do not know what is going on. You have probably finalized your project by now. My first thought is you mention nested scene sequences and I thought the edl process would not accept nest. I would have to navigate off to re-research that statement.
Why I reply is I have been testing the edl process and have been able to achieve sucess with exporting edl with audio as 'none' but failure to import edl with WAV audio into Speedgrade.
Yes, another member has a post regarding 'Major EDL Export BUG in 8.2!' in this pasted link
MAJOR EDL Export BUG in 8.2!
which is error with respect to WAV, and same error results as I am seeing with my WAV edl export text files
My research has led me to your post and I find it very interesting. Thanks for the details. I am not done with my research, just using all the data to see how I can include audio in an edl without error. My previous method was to export the edl without audio and import the audio separately. I now want to include audio,
another thought is your text files - they appear short, as in they say FROM CLIP NAME: (clip name), but no file extension
EDIT: I think the problem I am having with exporting edl WAV files is that the edl text file does not show the .wav file extension. I can export an edl and have the WAV file extension show, but it is not the sequence that I want to export as an edl. The sequence that does export out the edl file extension is the sequence where I cut sections of audio into my next sequence. It behaves like your nested sequence not giving file extension.
Thats all I can say is that my edl isn't giving me a file extension for my WAV due to it being cut from another sequence.

  • Trying to upload pictures from and iPad on to a pdf form (Adobe FormsCentral)

Im trying to upload pics from my iPad onto an pdf form also on my iPad. Is there a special code that I need?

A few users have been successful using a powered USB hub. Plug the camera into the hub and plug the hub into your iPad.
If your camera has an SD card, use the card instead.
If your camera doesn't use an SD card, import the pics to your computer.
Then you can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • How do I upload videos from an SD card to the movies folder in Finder on my iMac?

I'm having trouble uploading videos from my SD card to my iMac. I'm wanting to save it in the "Movies" folder in Finder. When I open the SD card on my iMac, I am able to view the videos in QuickTime Player. They were an AVCHD file format. It gave me no option of saving the videos - not even with dragging them. So, I tried moving all of the files versus just one (in other words, instead of opening the file to view all of the videos, I just dragged the whole file without opening it).  It saved to my iMac, but in the same way as it was on the SD card - I wasn't able to actually save the videos themselves. They were only able to be viewed with QuickTime Player - I couldn't do anything else with them. So, I took my SD card out of the computer and put it back in the video camera. I then realized than I could not view the videos in the camera - they wouldn't show up. I then plugged the SD card back into the iMac. The videos were now saved under a BDMV folder versus the AVCHD folder they had been under earlier. The AVCHD folder was there, but would not open. When I tried to open it, all it said was, "This operation could not be completed." The BDMV folder allows me to view the videos in QuickTime Player, but I still cannot save them to my iMac from the SD card. I even tried saving the videos to iPhoto by dragging the BDMV folder into iPhoto. All it did was say, "The following files could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognizable format." So, now, I am completely confused as to what I need to do as to save the videos onto my computer, and even how the videos are now saved under a BDMV folder versus the original AVCHD folder in the SD card. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could help me with this problem. Thanks!

You should have an icon of the SD card on the desktop - do you? If not, go to Finder Preferences > General and make sure these items are checked to show:
Once the icon is showing, you can just drag the card content to your desktop. It depends on what you want to do with the video - just watch or edit in iMovie to share online or burn a DVD?

i tried to get the installation disc for the camcorder but mac wont' recognize it becaue it is windows based i guess.
i just bought the camcorder a few months ago and when my computer crashed thought i'm finally getting a mac...it's been a costly venture which has resulted in more frustration than before my pc.
now the things i want to use with my mac that i thought would be even simpler...are not even useable...
    help

That camera shoots H.264 in an .avi wrapper.
You will have to transfer the files via the Finder.
Get a free copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert them to QuickTime .mov using the H.264 codec if you are presumably editing in iMovie.
Note that your list of video codecs won't look like mine as I have Final Cut Pro, but H.264 is definitely an option for you.

  • ITunes crashing when trying to sync books from iPad

When trying to sync books from iPad to iTunes, iTunes crashes causing Microsoft error message. Any ideas?

There may be a corrupted video or image file on your iPad.
Try to download from the iPad using Image Capture instead and save the photos to a folder. If that succeeds, you can check the files for corruption before importing them to iPhoto.

  • Uploading Video from Droid Incredible to Computer ??

I've had the Droid Incredible for a little over a month now (my first smartphone).     I have tried several different things but nothing seems to work.
Can someone please explain to me (step by step) how to upload videos from my phone to my computer?    Thanks!!

    @EmsMom,
Step 1: Connect your phone using the usb cable to your computer.
Step 2: On the phone, select Menu--> Notifications
Step 3: Click on Charge Only option in the notifications. This will bring up the Connect to PC screen.
Step 4: Select Disk Drive and click done.
Step 5: On your computer, you will now have one or two new drives apprear (similar to when you would plug in an external usb stick). You will see only one drive if you dont have a microSD card inserted, otherwise it will be two drives.
Step 6: You will find all your videos in either of the drives (depending on where you store your videos. By default the Camcorder app is configured to store it on the Phone Storage) Either ways, look under both drives at the following path:
driveletter:\dcim\100media.... (your videos and photos get stored here if you use the default camera and camcorder app)
Step 7: Simply copy the files and place them wherever you want them on your PC! That's it! You can then decide if you still want to keep them on the phone or delete them.
    Hope this helps!

  • Uploading videos from phone to laptop but getting ...

    Hi there
I have a nokia 6303 classic and i'm trying to upload videos filmed on it to my laptop via the data cable.  the videos seem to be uploading fine but i'm not getting any sound on them.  Just wondered what i am doing wrong??
    thanks

When you say 'uploading' what do you mean ? I simply drag and drop all media to and from my phone, and provided you have PC suite, Windows media Player and VLC on the PC one of them will play it fine. !!
If I have helped at all, a click on the White Star is always appreciated :

  • I am trying to upload movies from my itunes to my iphone and it will only upload a select few. Why?

Help! I am trying to upload movies from my iTunes to my iPhone and it will only upload a select few. Why?

You are using File->Add File (or Folder) to Library, right?
Make sure that you also look at the various categories of content stored on the library:  turn on the sidebar (Ctrl+S keys toggle) and click the categories to see if the content shows in the content window of iTunes.
It could be you are trying to add a video/movie in a format iTunes does not accept because it cannot play it or work with it.  (And yes, if iTunes cannot add it to the library, it should absolutely report an error message rather than leave you wondering and drop the command.)
