What happens when i accidently scratch off the code on my itunes gift card? Is there a way to redeem it still?

You will just need to submit a form to contact iTunes support. They will get back to you via email to resolve your issue. Email them the serial number of the card, and as many of the letters of the code as you can still read.

In the application app there is a grey button next to the error message, if I click on it nothing happens
Mountain Lion is showing in Launchpad as waiting, if I click on it, nothing happens

I imagine a ton of people are attempting to activate after the update, and the server is getting overloaded. Simple patience, maybe keep trying, and if possible, try a little later. Think of it as all those people lining up at Apple Stores + about a million more.
