I am using a Dell inspiron 14z, with Windows 8, and before that a Dell with Windows XP. This is also happening on my iPad. For the last four months, none of the movies or television shows I have rented or purchased from iTunes have played properly. The audio and video are out of sync. I have tried the troubleshooting measures iTunes suggested, however nothing seems to work. I have read on the community that this has been a problem for users in the past, and have attempted to try some of the fixes individual users have suggested also. Again, nothing seems to work. At this point I am frustrated, as we purchase or rent almost exclusively from iTunes. I would appreciate a support-staff person response. Thank you so much.

this problem has been going on for windows users for over a year now.
Apple has no solution to this problem.

If it is a POP account, there could be an issue with the outgoing server setting. It will not hurt to check this and make sure. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

DVD drives read the bottom of the disk, not the top. Smooth out the paper & try again.

If you monitor the "More Like This" box (top right), other threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads. You aren't the only one having this problem.
One person having a Photo Booth problem, although not the same one as you are having solved it by running Disk Utility/Repair Permissions.

I have a 2nd generation ATV and my audio and video is cutting out.

The problem is intermittent. Sometimes the picture continues and only the sound skips. Sometimes both the audio and video cut out and return a second or so later. This even happens on the menu screens where the video and/or sounds will "hiccup". This happens when playing internet conent (like from iCloud or iTunes radio) or when playing content resident on my home computer via home sharing. I've tried the setup at more than one house, on more than one Wifi network and hooked to more than one TV, but the problem still occurs. Can anyone offer suggestions for a solution?

HT4859 Why is my backup to my new iphone taking so long. Ive downloaded all the apps, pictures, all settings are back, all contacts are there, all itunes and videos are there. What does Icloud have left to download?

I just got a new replacement Iphone 4s and am trying to back up my IPhone 4s from Icloud and it still says that it is restoring the phone. The issue is that its taken a total of maybe 6 hours and all my apps have been downloaded, all photos have been restored, all settings and contacts restored, all itunes music and videos have been restored. Question is, it still says that the phone is restoring, so what exactly is it still restoring??

That is ironic, but apparently Apple server is "locked" for restore process for three days. During that time it may say it is restoring even past the actual restore time. I have seen where someone successfully stopped that process, by changing apple id password, and where that didn't help to stop process. But 3 days from restore start, that should time out.
Credit goes to Randers, he is the one who gave that info about three days, but I was also able to verify that myself.

Audio and video are not in sync when playing movies in iTunes

I have downloaded several movies from the iTunes store, and also ripped two digital copy discs into my iTunes library. When I try to play them, the audio is not in sync with the video. Very frustrating when you see the characters lips move, then about a second or two after, you hear what they were saying.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I am running most current version of iTunes, and QuickTime.

I have looked a little bit more, and it seems as though the video is lagging behind, not the other way around. Video seems choppy, but the audio is playing perfectly. Music Videos are suffering from the same problem as well. Also, when I sync to my iPod Touch 16GB, audio & video match up perfectly.
I still have no idea how to fix this. Please help.

I have just bought a new hp laptop and when running power point presentations with embedded media (for my job) I cannot adjust the volume of the sound when the audio or video file is playing. It simply cuts out and stops the video or sound from playing. I thought at first that this might be an Office 2010 issue but now it seems more likely to be a setting on the laptop. I hear you on this. I just tested out the 3GS video for a concert where band mixed electronica and guitars.. boom boom satellites and I noticed when close to the speaker side of the stage the sound cut in/out. But when I moved farther away sound remained consistant.
What I may suggest is lowering the volume to mid range when closer to your sound source then
correct (if needed) using outside software.. iMovie Final Cut, etc..

I have downloaded an HD video from itunes store to my computer. i have a very powerful pc computer OS: windows 7 professional, intel core i7 with 4GB of RAM. and only when i playback that specific film i downloaded from itunes; after 8 minuets +- the video losess sync with the video. also when i pause it to buffer it losses again every time.
why does it happen only to this HD video? i have other HD video that works flawless.
what should i do?

Lost my download helper. No longer have DL Helper icon on too bar. I uploaded all of the suggested updates here that are suspose to resolve this but nothing has worked. I'm thinking of uninstalling FF and reinstalling it - think that would work?

Does it play ok on your iPad ? If it does then delete it from your laptop and copy it back across again.
If not, then depending upon what country that you are in (films can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the film from your iTunes library and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes (or delete it from your iPad and redownload it via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on it, then delete it from your computer's iTunes and copy it across.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download film or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com

Thanks for the last tip, miT. Everything worked out great transferring the TS files through to IMovie. The only hassle now is that the audio precedes the video by about 5 seconds. Is there a way of fixing this, or should i be transferring smaller bits (i had a chunk of about 2 hours, of which only the last 5 minutes is where the audio matters. The stuff before that was all old 8mm stuff from the forties & fifties). I'll try to monkey around with it some more.

With your big 2 hour clip in MPEG Streamclip, move the cursor to the start of the 5 minutes that "matters" and press i. Then move the cursor to the end of this 5 minute section, and press o.
Then File/Export Using QuickTIme in Apple Intermediate Codec. See if that helps.
