  • What is the procedure for a hard boot of my iPod touch 4th generation without itunes, and without computer, and without iPod data screen.?

What is the procedure for a hard boot of my iPod touch 4th generation
without iTunes, and without computer, and without iPod data screen?
6 months after purchase I updated my iPod touch as recommend by iTunes.
It has not worked since that day.  It frozen (disabled) with a "connect to
iTunes" icon displayed...that is the only thing it does.  itunes does not
recognize the iPod.  My Windows7 computer recognizes an Apple device.
Other computers recognize the devise but if iTunes resided on that
computer it did not recognize the iPod
I suffered a setback with deep depression and am just now getting out of it enough to do something.  The depression prohibited me from taking action.
I have done every procedure recommended from Apple help and external
sources.  I did this thoroughly with help for other owners and IT experts,
Apple employees etc etc.  I and associates have perform reboots utilizing a
number procedure using only button on the iPod.  These were unsuccessful
    also have performed.
Please do not ask me to do the usual.
Online I saw  a process using the buttons on the iPod to completely
    reformat
the iPod.  It was NOT the hold buttons for 10 sec let go of one wait 8 sec
etc.  I can not find the process now...a friend showed it to me in passing
I have lost contact with him.  This is the procedure, I believe, that with
enable me to update and use the iPod.

You need an internet connection and likely a computer with iTunes but an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with the FindMy iPhone App may work by:
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
    Otherwise
    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    To restore from backup see:

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
Yo may have to go to an Apple store or a friend's house with an internet connection and iTunes.

  • Why is my ipod touch 4th gen with ios 6 only have sound in the speakers but not when I plug my headphones in

My new ipod touch 4th gen with ios 6 wont play soun in the headphones, but only through the speaker when my head phones are unplugged

    - You do have the volume set all the way up?
    - Have you tried another pair of headphones/do the headphone work in other devices?
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the headphone plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. It seems yo have a hardware problem, likely a bad headphone jack.

B-rock, thanks for posting the above.  I actually have the same issue, running Windows XP and I don't have that backup location, \Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\.  When I go to Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and keep getting the same message.  I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
What am I doing wrong, can you help?
    Thank you!

What happens when you try to change them?
    Try:
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

  • Sync iPod Touch 4th Gen to 2 different iTunes

Can you sync the same iPod Touch 4th gen to 2 different iTunes?
On my iMac early 2010 theres lots of songs I want on my iPod and on my Macbook Pro late 2011 theres photos I want on my iPod.

That means that you can connect the iPod other than your one syncing computer and copy music and videos from that computer's itunes library to your iPod.
The follows explans it but does not reflect iTunes 11 for exactly how to do it.
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers

  • Can't sync iPod Touch 4th Gen after updating to IOS 6.0

I've updated my 64GB iPod Touch 4th Gen to IOS 6.0, but now I can’t sync it with iTunes.
It connects OK, but iTunes isn’t detecting what is already there - it thinks it is full of 48MB of “Other” (rather than music, apps, photos, etc.). In other words iTunes isn’t detecting what is already on the iPod properly (it just knows it’s nearly full of something).
So if I try to sync, iTunes thinks it needs to add all my music, etc. again, and therefore says it’s way over capacity (i.e. 48MB of “other” + 48 MB of all my music, etc.).
    Help! Any suggestions?

    - Try resetting the car system if you can.
    Sometimes this works
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However. sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility. In that case you will have to wait for a firmware update to either the care system or the iPod.

  • Ipod Touch (4th gen) freezes iTunes when sync'd.

A friend of mine has been having some problems and I have been unable to help him.  He bought a new iPod touch 4th gen at the weekend (couldn't resist the lower price or wait a few weeks until the new model) running ios 6, he has just updated itunes to 10.7 but everytime he syncs it iTunes freezes during part 5 or 6 of the sync process and does not recover.  His old nano (5th gen) syncs without issue, any ideas?  We have tried reseting the iPod to factory setings but this will only allow the iPod to sync correctly once.  When we try again iTunes freezes up.  We are pretty much at a loss, it's taken the shine of his new purchase.
    Thanks.

From what I can recall they are preparing to or waiting for changes to be applied, I don't have my laptop to hand so I can't check at the mo.  The status bar then does nothing at all, iTunes just freezes up completely.  The moving arrows by the iPod stop circling and we have to use the task manager to close the program, just in case it restarted syncing we left it for about 20 mins without joy.  Even unplugging the ipod makes no difference.

  • I updated my iPod Touch 4th gen. with ios 5 and all my apps and music disappeared. What to do?

This afternoon I updated my iPod Touch 4th generation with the iOS 5 update. I left the computer alone for about an hour, since that is how long iTunes said the update would take. When I came back, all of my music and apps were gone. Why did this happen? Is there any way to fix it? Thanks for the help.

    - If in the USA you can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - You can always redownload apps at no additional cost as long as you are signed into the same iTunes account the orignally purchased them.
    - It appears that the apps and music were not in the iTunes library on the computer on which you performed the update.  Music and the apps themselfes (app data is in the backup) are not part of the bckup hat iTunes makes as the first step of the uPdate.  Apps and music are synced from your iTunes library during a latter part of the update process.

  • I hav a ipod touch 4th gen with cracked screen and i finally got it to turn on itunes and the ipod was making charging noises but the screen was just white i tryed updating it to ios 5.1.1 bit did nothink so i was

i bought a ipod touch 4th generation with cracked screen and i finally got it to turn on itunes and the ipod was making charging noises but the screen was just white i tryed updating it to ios 5.1.1 bit did nothink so i was wondering how to fix this white screen i tryed a hard reboot ( whitch i heard might work ) but did nothink if there is no sulution to fixing this is it worth buying a new screen ? thaanks

    Try here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If yu can't turn it off, then let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try again.
If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and service is required.

  • ITunes 10.5 crashes when syncing iPod Touch 3rd Gen. with iOS 5

iTunes 10.5 crashes when I try to sync my iPod Touch 3rd Gen. with iOS 5...help? I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and from what I can tell the sync process is taking up a massive amount of CPU (i've got a 15 in MBP with i7 core, 2.2GHz processor and 8 GB of RAM). can someone tell me what's going on?

I have windows xp, mine also crashing, nothing has worked...uninstalling, resetting and reinstalling nothing.

  • Can you charge an iPod Touch 4th Gen with a iPhone 4s charger?

We own an iPod Touch 4th Gen and an iPhone 4s. I was just wondering if the charging cables are interchangeable.

    Yes, they are interchangeable.

  • How can I unlock ipod touch 5th gen currently disabled and never sync'd with itunes

Basic situation. Ipod touch 5th gen. Passcode forgotten and tried too many times such that ipod is disabled and requested to connect to iTunes.  Problem is that the ipod was never sync'd with iTunes so the connection fails.  I've only owned it for 9 months or so.  I know I can recover all my music through iTunes and my applications through the app store since all of my content was legally purchased.  The problem is that I need to also recover my contacts and pictures since this is the only place they exist.
I have read about methods up to 4th generation where you can access a particular file on the device via computer and rename it to unlock the device. That would most likely allow me to then sync/backup via iTunes and recover my data.  Problem is that I can only access the DCIM folder via windows manager and it contains no data. Perhaps there is a way to access the device a different way?
Is there a way with the 5th generation to either reset the lock (from disabled to locked with a 1 min wait for retry as an example) to allow me more opportunities to try other passcodes that I may have set (including mistypes etc) or to remove the passcode completely and let me set it to something I will write down this time?
Please do not reply with the standard apple responses of 'sync with itunes' or 'factory reset' and no, I did not sync with the icloud either (I tried but it was unsuccessful for some reason).
The answer doesn't even have to be a free one as I would be willing to pay for the solution if it were guaranteed to work.  Since apple seems to want to charge for any type of support, even to ask a question, I am relying on the community for help.  Thanks much.

You have to place the iPod in Recovery mode as Apple says and erase the device. It is a security feature.
    or
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
    There is not other way
