Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed any mobile programs associated with my non apple cellphone. This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
    Go to 'Settings'
    'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

  • Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes now

i have a friend who has an ipod touch....everything had been going fine for him and then all of a sudden it was not being recognized any more....what caused this? he did say that he had done an update but i'm not sure what version he has....could this possibly be the problem.....does anyone an a fix for this?

I think Apple is having a problem at the moment, my Ipod touch was always fine syncing until the new update! (Even on older itunes version, I could'nt sync since new update came out) It just isnt recognizing the device...
Ive done all that Apple says to do, none of which helps at all, I reckon its thier own side of the problem they need to fix...

  • IPod touch not being recognized by iTunes on my MacBook, and on 2 other PCs

    Hello,
After scouring the web and these discussion forums to no avail, I've decided to post my problem. I downloaded iTunes 8.0 yesterday, and updated the firmware on my iPod Touch to 1.1.5. I tried connecting my iPod, and nothing happened. It is not being recognized by my MacBook. So, I tried using another USB iPod connector, and nothing happened. I tried using a firewire connector, and nothing happened. Frustrated, I tried connecting to my one roommate's HP laptop and see if it would get recognized there - no. I then tried on my other roommate's laptop. The device was recognized to be USB, but iTunes wouldn't go ahead and try and reformat it. I'm starting to lose my mind! I've tried resetting the iPod touch itself loads of times to no success. I've tried restarting while having the iPod connected to the computer, and still nothing.
    What should I do now?

Sorry about not getting to you on the quick-fast, but we aren't Apple employees.
What ended up being the solution you needed, as you said, you couldn't find any information already posted on this problem, so documenting your fix may help someone in the future.

When I start the system with the iPod connected,

When I start the system and then connect the ipod, this orange light flashes three times and dies.

It worked at first, but then the problem returned.

  • 30GB iPod Video not being recognized by iTunes and low battery warning

This is without a USB connection to mu Vista machine
    1. I hear a clicking sound (it comes from the HD) on start up.
    2. A dark Apple icon appears
    3. Then the back light comes on with the sad face iPod icon and exclamation point.
    4. It then shuts down and screen goes off.
Plug it into a USB port and same issue but the screen shows an un-backlit "Please Wait Very Low Battery" message.
If I leave it plugged into the USB port it just cycles through the process.
Note too that the iPod is not recognized by iTunes.
I have done the reset process without success.
I thiught I had a bad HD and/or battery so I replaced both. I get the same issues.
    Anyone have an idea?
    DAve

Well I tried putting the old hard drive back in and it was recognized in iTunes. All is well now.
I think the issue is that once the battery is totally run down there is no way for the thing to get enough power from a USB port to bootstrap itself.
I finally let thing recharge from a wall adapter all day.
I suggest you try to get it charged via the car adapter overnight. Of course the car port must be supplying power with the key off.
The Apple store people said they fix this type of issue by charging the ipod for 20 mimutes with a high power charger (I assume this is a 1394 type).
All these issues coulkd be solved with a better design,

  • Another "iPod Touch not being recognized in iTunes" thread

Ok, I have a 2G 32G iPod touch and it was working beautifully...but here lately it is refusing to be recognized in iTunes. I have it plugged in and it shows charging on the iPod screen, but will not come up in iTunes...I've restarted the comp and iTunes so many times it's not funny. I've followed everything from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1852 and I guess I'll need to post the results. I did reinstall iTunes as well.
First, in the Device Manager my iPod doesn't show up in the USB drop down menu like the page says it should.
Second, when I go to the Event Manager I see some errors that say "The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( iPod Service ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Service started." And I have no idea what that means, as I'm not computer savy.
And I guess finally my iPod isn't showing up in my computer like some others have told me that it should. Any questions I need to answer please feel free to ask, I'll try anything I just want to be able to get iTunes to see my iPod again lol.
Thanks for all the help in advance.

I had similar problem. Touch 2G was working perfectly until a few weeks ago then when I tried to download newly purchased music, my PC would not recognize my Ipod Touch. I had this problem back in April and it was resolved with updates from Microsoft and Apple. Anyway, after trying everything in desperation I called Apple yesterday and spent 3.5 hours on the phone with a tehnician who wouldn't give up until she resolved the issue, AND SHE DID!!!! We tried a lot of things but what seemed to work and might work with you is to uninstall ALL Apple applications, Bounjour, Mobile Me, ITunes and Quicktime (you don't have to uninstall Safari) and disable any firewalls or security programs you have, restart the computer and then reinstall Itunes again, restart the computer and then try connecting your device to the computer. We also returned the IPod to the factory settings. If that is indeed your problem, you will notice the popup window, that was appearing before the problem began, telling you that the driver needed has been installed. It is a driver problem. I was so impressed with the technician and her determination to solve my problem. I hope this helps.

  • IPod Classic not being recognized by iTunes

Okay, so I've had an iPod Classic (30 gb) for a while now, and it stopped working for some unknown reason. The thing that's happening is that it's not recognized by the computer at all; once I plug it into the USB drive, the computer says that there's a USB device that isn't recognized. iTunes doesn't pick it up, and with that in mind, I can't reformat it at all. I know for a fact that it's not the cable that is faulty because I've used it with a friend of mines iPod, and even ON my computer, so this is a bit puzzling....
To make things worse, the battery is completely dead, and when I plug it in, this weird symbol appears on the screen.... it doesn't look like a normal "recharging" symbol. It appears more like this one:
    Actual default charging example
    http://images.apple.com/support/ipod101/anatomy/images/anatomy03-1.jpg
My iPods picture (which I outlined with MS Paint for a better view)
    http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/AVMYoshi/Scraps/IMG000035.jpg
It also RANDOMLY begins charging.... although I'm aware of this because while the iPod is connected, the battery icon is green with the little thunderbolt flashing, I believe..... I'm not sure, it's only done that once so far, but I made sure to check that if it was even at all charging, it was still not identified by the computer or iTunes. So any help would greatly be appreciatted...

    Hi There,
Sounds like you've got a few issues going on there... If your device is not recognizing the iPod, than you could have an issue with the drivers on the PC which maybe a uninstall and reinstall of iTunes COULD fix...
However, based on what you're also saying about the icons on the screen you may have a device issue... Can your iPod's screen be found on this page?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1435
As the image you're trying to display is this one of those under the low charging icons, which may be normal... But if you're having other issues by the iPod just stopping then that's why I say your iPod may be having an issue... Plus the version of the iPod that you have is one of the original ones which have been discontinued for a while now.
If you can't find a resolution but want this device, try iResQ.com they offer some great services and buy users old iPods to fix ones like yours...
Otherwise you might have to bite the bullet and get a new device.
Sorry but that's about the only advice one can offer to you!

  • IPod Touch not being recognized in iTunes

Hello Apple Discussions, my name is Wong Meng. iPod Details: iPod Touch 4G FW: 4.2.1
I just ran across a problem with my iTouch where it would be recognized in Windows under My Computer, but iTunes would freeze and lag when it loaded when my Touch was connected. I restored my iPod, deleting some 17GB worth of media including apps I had no way of backing up, and now iTunes won't lag when I plug it in, it just takes a while to get things running. Still doesn't recognize my device. I ran diagnostics under Help > Run Diagnostics, and everything was fine except "No iPod, iPhone, or iPad found." I have the newest iTouch firmware (I hope), newest iTunes, etc. Help! Somebody help me, who has had similar experiences. • IPod is not being recognized on itunes anymore. Screenshots inside

I was putting songs on last night and everything was going fine. After I finished putting the songs on, I checked my ipod and the songs were all there.
I come back 5 minutes later to listen to it and there are all gone. Just like that.
I took some screens of the error message it's giving me:
Whenever I plug my ipod in and iTunes loads, this is the message I get:
    http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1273/problem1nk8.jpg
So I do that, I try restoring it and I get this message after it tries to extract and restore:

Do you think reinstalling iTunes will work or is this just a hardware problem? How do I get my iPod exchanged then?

    Steps:
    1. Start the NEW version of iTunes. Now turn off all of the following: A. Screen Saver, B. Firewall, C. Anti-Virus Program, D. Ensure ALL programs have stopped before proceeding!
    2. Connect the Touch to the Computer via the USB connector. iTunes should be opened and ready for you. As soon as iTunes recognizes the Touch and you see it on the left side column, highlight/select the Touch and go through each tab and TURN OFF ALL Syncing! Do this quick, you do not want any sync's at this time.
    3. Go to the first Touch screen within iTunes and verify your upgrade is recognized.
    4. Manually work your way through each TAB and manually sync your music and video.
    5. Make sure all is completed and no syncing is happening! Upon verification of same, disconnect the TOUCH from the PC (Suggest disconnecting the Touch from the cable, instead of the cable from the PC).
    6. Start the TOUCH, and ALL shall be well!
Let me know if you need any further HELP. I will be out of pocket for about the next 30 minutes or so! Good Luck!

  • How do I reformat an IPod Touch for Windows that has been formatted for a Mac?  All instructions I have been able to find use ITunes or Device Manager to reformat.  My IPod is not being recognized by ITunes or in Device Manager.

I have an IPod Touch that has been formatted for a Mac.  All instructions I have been able to find use ITunes or Device Manager to reformat the device for Windows.  This cannot be done if Windows doesn't recognize the device.  Is there another way to set the device back to the factory settings directly on the device without using ITunes?

Ipod touch is not formatted one way or the other at all.
Just sync it to the new computer using itunes.

  • My iPod is not being recognized by iTunes

When I first got my iPod, it would constantly diplay the "Do Not Disconnect" icon whenever I plugged in into my computer, regardless of how long I had charged it. Then, about a month ago, it started displaying the non-animated black and grey charging icon whenever I plugged it in. I called for help, and the guy told me to download iTunes 7.0 and restore it to factory settings. I downloaded 7.0, and now I can at least charge my iPod. However iTunes doesn't recognize it. When I check in My Computer it shows up under just my name, nothing related to iPod, and when I check to see what's on it, there are no files, and the folders are "Calendar", "Contacts" and "Notes" but they are all empty. So basically I can charge my iPod now, but I can't update it, or restore it factory settings, like Support Guy said I should. Can someone please help me before I heave the f*cking thing at the wall?

I have an ipod Touch running 3.1.3 that I sync with my iBook G4 running 10.4.11. I've never had an issue syncing with iTunes (9.2.1) - until today.
