TS1398 I cannot start to use my new ipad mini as it is stuck at the very first step after restoring my old backup. It says to choose a wifi, I do and then it says 'Unable to connect' There is no options for a password and I cannot access any other screen!

I have tried going past the first set up stage, still with no wifi. I have then tried restoring the ipad mini, still no wifi available. Both my ipone and Apple Mac have wifi full bars. Please help. I only picked up my new ipad today. I am thinking it may be faulty.

It may be faulty but you should try to activate it first in order to be sure.
Why don't you activate it using iTunes on the Mac and then troubleshoot the WiFi connection. Connect the Mini to the Mac with the cable and iTunes should startup and take you through activation. If you do not autosync and iTunes des not start up on it's own, then launch it yourself.

Both are logged in and both are registered for homesharing. however because apple keeps updating and moving things around for no reason there appears to be no way of accessing the homsharing button in the latest version of itunes. the website refers to " Once set up, all the libraries from your computers you've enabled Home Sharing on will show up in the SHARED area of iTunes:" well I have searched all over in the recent itunes versions and there is no "shared area" to be found.
Please find the attachment of a screen cap of my itunes.
If anyone can help by telling me where it has been moved to or if it even still exists that would be much appreciated.

It came with the upgrade of Mountain Lion but I cannot find quicktime in the applications. When I try to install anything this Installer Password thing comes up... so I'm stuck.

I think you're slightly misunderstanding something, so maybe I'll try to chime in, even though everyone has said it in various ways.
Before OSX 10.7 (aka Lion) came out, the upgrades to OSX belonged to the Mac and not the user. Probably there was a technical legality in the user agreement that you couldn't do that, but everyone did. I could sell a Mac with Snow Leopard (or anything before that) by just erasing the hard drive, and reinstalling OSX. Then ship it to the buyer. Now, I was pretty honest as a seller, and including not only the original installation discs but also any upgrade. I would only sell a Mac if I was replacing it, so I always was getting the brand new version.
With OSX 10.7, upgrading was done online, with no disks. So the upgrades were tied to an Apple ID rather than the machine. Recently, I sold a MacBook Pro (to upgrade to a 27" iMac), which came with Lion. I had promised the buyer that it would come with Mountain Lion, but I didn't know that the upgrade was tied to my Apple ID. I made good with the buyer by sending along a $20 Apple App Store card so that she could upgrade to Lion.
So what everyone is saying here is that you need the original Installation discs or Snow Leopard disk to reinstall and wipe out the Mountain Lion that is on your Mac. It doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the seller, and without his Apple ID and password, you cannot use it. Once you do a reinstall of Snow Leopard, then you can upgrade to Lion and then to Mountain Lion. I do not believe you can upgrade directly to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard, but I'm not sure.
If the seller claimed that you were getting Mountain Lion, then he was lying to you (or being more civil, maybe he just didn't know like I did). If you bought the used machine from Amazon Sellers or from eBay, then you have recourse through the feedback system or through PayPal. If you bought it any other way, you're on your own.

If you had a passcode set on your iPad your data should be safe. The thief would have to force it into recovery mode and restore it in order to use it, which would completely erase it.
This shouldn't keep your daughter's device from accessing the iCloud account however. If you can no longer sign into the account on iCloud.com from your computer, contact Apple support for assistance.

I cannot sign onto Facetime with new iPad mini 3

Recently purchased 2 new iPad mini 3 for children. Update iOS to 8.2. Family share and parental controls are set. One iPad mini 3 will sign in, one will not. I have gone through most every "trick" or "fix" I could find (OFF & ON, Sign out & Sign In, Checked Date & Time, set DNS to 8.8.8.8, etc.) to get the one iPad to sign in but no use. Other than a complete factory reset, I have run out of ideas. Is there some child age restriction possibly I don't know about keeping it from signing in? Any other "try this" ideas the community can share? Thanks in advance

I have tried the factory reset and it did not work. The people at the Apple Store thought I needed a replacement iPad but I think it's an Apple problem. I got bumped up to a senior tech at AppleCare who is working with engineers. There are a number of people with this problem.

Will the new iPad Mini with Retina Display fit into the older iPad Mini case? (Will it be the same size?)

I am planning to purchase the new iPad Mini with Retina Display when it comes out this month. I am curious to know whether it will fit into the older iPad Mini cases that are currently available. I wasn't sure whether I should go ahead and buy a case, or if I should wait due to a size difference. Thanks!

Using diskpart as the very first step in TS

I want to have a very first in TS as hard drive clean and partitioning it. so once WinPE is downloaded, system reboots, it will check 'IsLaptop' or 'IsDesktop' condition and if its Laptop, it should clean the disk 0 and parition it. I have tried to achieve
this but i am getting an error. Its a MDT based TS in Configuration manager 2012 R2 (MDT 2013 is integrated). Laptops are encrypted and just need to be wiped and reload without databackup. I feel this is the easiest way to have dispart clean the disk, recreate
partition based on condition if its laptop.
Steps i am doing is :
1. diskpart. exe /s diskpart.txt - first step in TS, and has condition to run only if 'IsLaptop equals True'. I have created package for diskpart.txt ( i am wondering if this could be an issue, if it tries to download the package on hdd and hdd doesn't have
partition yet)
2. set imageosver to 6.1 - since its for windows 7
3. Format and partition disk 6.1 - will format and create 2 partitions 'OS disk' and 'BDE'
then other steps starts like Use toolkit package, gather and UDI wizard.

You could have the Format/Partition steps run only if the Chassis/Model type = that of a laptop or one of your laptop models. If those parameters aren't met (e.g. PC is not one of the desktop models or doesn't have a the laptop ChassisTypes), the partition/format
steps wont' run.
I've ran into issues when trying to run commandline steps that require files to copy down first. I have the best luck when the drive(s) are properly cleaned, repartitioned, and formatted first.

Using Firefox 9.0.1 my Yahoo toolbar calendar link keeps asking for my password. I can access all other Yahoo content from that toolbar except the calendar. Any suggestions?

TS3274 I have a new iPad mini w/retina display. Recently, the screen flickered with red lines across the entire screen. Anyway, the screen eventually went black. Now it does't work. Anyone have any suggestions?

My screen just went haywire. The screen flickered with red strips vertically. I thought it was part of the game I was operating until the screen went black and a white strip illiminated at the top. I tried turning teh system off, but it would not allow me to turn it off. After about 5 minutes, I was able to turn it off. Anyone have this occur? The Ipad mini appears to be ok now.

In my situation, the screen simply started exhibiting the same symptoms a few weeks ago (early February) for no apparent reason. At first I thought the screen was dead, but discovered the heat solution by accident. Now I turn it on and keep it from going to sleep until I go to bed. Thank goodness the battery is still awesome on this thing.
I bought it new and still has the original screen, I keep it at home (never below 62 degrees). Coincidentally, this happened a day or two after the expiration of the warranty!! Any help figuring this one out would be eternally appreciated.

If you have a retailer near you, take your iPad in. Often they will let you try the case on before you buy it.
If the case is a slip case or a silicone one you might have better luck than a hard plastic one.

Yosemite is locking my keyboard! When I start or retrieve a document the mouse will operate and I can highlight a word in Word but the keyboard will not type. I have had this start since the very first opening after updating.

I open a document to edit in Word 2013 (which shows as Word 2008) and try to save the document as a different one. The optical mouse on my MacBook Pro operates normally. Then I make the corrections as try "Save As". The screen opens and I can navigate to the folder and press "Open". I give it a name and the summary page opens to the text lines and I try to give it a new title. The keyboard does not respond and I have to cancel. I have automatic updates on and I get no update messages from Apple of Microsoft.
Anyone else havng same issues? This misspelled word will not correct by using the old method of right clicking and getting suggested corrections. it highlights but will not correct nor can I place the cursor on the exact place in the word (between the V and the n) to insert the missing "i".

Microsoft released Office for Mac 2011 update 14.4.5 for Yosemite compatibility. They are not motivated to do so for Office for Mac 2008, as it is an unsupported, end-of-life product.
Can you work through the process you described on another person's MBP with Office for Mac 2011 update 14.4.5 installed to determine if the problem you encountered is reproducible there?

Alright, if you go to computer and right click on the iPhone, import is not an option? If you go to Control Panel and go to AutoPlay, can you change the settings for the phone? It should recognize it as a digital camera. Also, if the iPhone has a passcode and is locked when you connect it, you will not be able to import the photos either. If it has a passcode, unlock it, then connect to the computer and see if you can see the choice to import then.

New Ipad mini installing app issues

Please help.
I have purchased a new iPad mini today. I have spent the last few hours getting annoyed as to why I can't install any apps on it. This ipad is for my wife. I already have an iPad 2 and have never had issue with it. Everything else seems fine, network connection is good, we did manage to download iBooks and after that every app I tried to install (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter etc) the little circle would come up for a few seconds and then go back to the 'free' button. I have reset the ipad and I have double checked account settings. There are no restrictions on. I have downloaded iOS 7 (did that before we even started downloading anything). Just can't figure it out. Can anyone help??

Ok ... I sorted it out.
I think it was because the machine had ios6 on and updated to iOS 7 as soon as it was turned on literally after set up. I just did a hard reset (deleted all data etc) and set it up again with iOS 7 from start up. Works fine now.
I suppose others might get this problem if they buy a new ipad mini with iOS 6 on it. Just do what I did (eventually, not the whole 2 hour head scratching and teeth grinding) and it should work. Reset the machine by erasing all data.
