TS1988 unable to clear trash bin

i have deleted some music files but they still show in the trash,even after secure delete, i have checked and all the files are unlocked, they are not files that are incomplete but it still wont let me delete them, any clues as to how i might get over this.
I am getting no error messages, it seems to empty it but when i look again they are still there.

I'm getting an error message when trying to clear the trash. Trash currently contain the Outlook Database file but I haven't launched any Microsoft application including outlook in my dock. Below is the error message that I'm getting.
The operation can’t be completed because the item “Database” is in use.

Is it your desire to remove all of Office or is Office no longer installed? If the latter then restart the computer then try to empty the Trash. You can also try the utility, Trash It! 5.1.
If the former then you need to be sure you quit all Office applications. Drag the MS Office folder to the Trash. Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder and check that there are no Office processes still running. If so be sure to to Quit them in Activity Monitor.
Restart the computer then try Emptying the Trash.

There are two ways that should work. When you are in the trash folder, you can swipe on the email in the list - left to right - and a red Delete button should pop up. Or you can select - Edit - at the top of the list of messages and then select the message and tap delete.
Not sure exactly how this works - but if you have restrictions enabled - especially since you let your grandchild use the device - that may be restricting what you can do in the mail app. Go to Settings>General>Restrictions. If you have it set to on - turn it off or see if you have mail restricted.

To delete synced photos and videos
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
Click Apply.
To delete Camera Roll photos and videos
There are two methods to delete items from the Camera Roll:
Import the Camera Roll to your computer, choosing to delete items after import.
or
Delete photos and videos from your device manually. Open the Photos application, open the Camera Roll, tap the Action button, tap each photo to select it, and tap the Delete button.
Note: For photos and videos you want to save for later, import them to your computer before deleting them from the Camera Roll.

Generally when you get the resource in use error logging out or rebooting will take care of it. When a file just absolutely refuses to delete try restarting in Safe Mode (hold the left shift key after the computer restarts) and then empty the trash.

Unable to clear incomplete TM fliles in trash

My TM failed to complete a backup and based on user's tips, I have deleted the .Inprogress files from my time capsule so that TM can create a new backup file. Seems to be working, but now I cannot delete these files permanently. As soon as I connect to the time capsule the files appear in the trash bin again.

You can use the terminal to delete stubborn files however using this command incorrectly can delete your entire system so you must be careful.
open your terminal and type the following command but press the space bar after the last word of the command.DONT PRESS ENTER just yet. Then drag the file or folder from the trash onto the terminal window. This will complete the correct path to the file automatically.I will show you the command but use and underscore to represent the space so you know where it should go.
sudo rm -rf_
replace the underscore with a space so it looks like
sudo rm -rf
then drag the contents of your trash onto the terminal window it would then look something like but not excactly
sudo rm -rf /Volumes/timemachine/.Trash/files
Then press return and enter your admin password

Can't delete recovery files in trash bin

Dear all,
I have problems deleting revored files in my trash bin (Papierkorb) and if I choose delete all (incl. secured ones) it just stops and the recovered files get more and more.

It's actually more involved than any of these posts have mentioned. I just found out the hard way to completely delete photos from the iPhone.
Step 1: Back-up your photos to a computer. Make sure that you have any pictures you want to save already downloaded to iPhoto or some other place. I'm not a huge iPhoto fan, but it was the easiest place to put the pictures from photostream and then move them elsewhere on my computer.
Step 2: Turn off photostream. This deletes any pictures from the photostream on the phone or tablet.
Step 3: Plug the iPhone/iPad into any Mac computer and open the Image Capture app. Now select your device and you see that most of the pictures are in there twice. Now select BOTH COPIES of any that you want to delete and press the delete button on the bottom of the window (it's the red circle with a slash through it). DO NOT SELECT ONE COPY AND LEAVE THE OTHER THINKING THAT IT WILL STAY ON THE DEVICE...ask me why I know.
Step 4: Open iTunes and be pleasantly surprised that the 40000 gigs of space spent on photos has dropped to near zero.
Step 5: Like this post to help bump it to the top and help people clear wasted data from their iPhone/iPad.

This is standard guidance, but maybe it will help...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove your Yahoo cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
This will open a dialog where you can remove the individual cookies.
Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does it work any better?

Cannot locate my Trash Bin nor my Dock! G4 -Imac

I was messing around with my computer settings (no, I don't exactly remember what I did) yesterday and now I cannot seem to find the Trash Bin, nor do I see the Dock on the left side or the bottom side or anything.
I know the power went off bfriefly but everything else seems to be fine.
Also I just bought a new Ipod Shuffle this Christmas. I only have OS X 10.2.8 and I need the new OS X system. Is there anywhere I could buy it at student prices? I am taking foreign language and could use the Ipod for that.
Also, when I play my songs on the Itunes, sometimes it repeats the same song over and over. It's not with all the playlists, but some. I don't recall doing an upgrade on the Itune for awhile. What could cause this?

Sometimes, if Dock "hiding" has been turned on, if you mouse over the area
it was supposed to be (if preference as to what side it should be on was not
changed also) the Dock will magically appear and then disappear as you
move the mouse over the hidden dock. You can see what the Dock setting
is by using the Dock item beneath the blue Apple in the Finder menubar.
You could try booting up from the Jaguar installer disc#1 and choose to
run Disk Utility from below the Installer's menubar (not running Installer)
and choose "repair disk" and then also run "repair disk permissions" note
if there is an issue when you run "repair disk" run it one or two more times
to see if any error there will be repaired; then run "repair disk permissions"
and then after these are run, choose to select startup disk from the menu
bar beneath the Installer name to boot from the hard disk drive. Of course
you'd need to quit disk utility first. In more usual times, you'd run Disk Utility
from the Applications/Utilities folder and choose "repair disk permissions"
from within there; not needing to boot from the Jaguar installer disc#1.
It is rare when the Dock just goes away. If the settings appear OK and
the Dock in not in "hiding" you may need to do other disk maintenance
and I suggest to download the Jaguar version of OnyX and run the default
set of choices under their "automation" tab. OnyX runs free; and can be
used to clear caches and run routines that often get overlooked.

Cleaning Trash Bin

I recently cleaned out a back up HD and I am trying to clear my trash bin. I was wondering if anyone knew how to delete files with this name "com.apple.SystenLoginItems.plist"

What error message are you getting when you attempt to delete then from Trash?

In photos: I have tried to select and delete some duplicate pictures that I transferred from my other iPhone 5S on this new iPhone 5S and when I select the only options available is moving the photos or email/text. I cannot put in trash bin

How did you transfer the photos from your other iPhone? If you did it by importing them from the old phone to a computer and then used iTunes to sync them back to the new phone, then you would delete them by syncing again using iTunes but this time change the selection of which photos are to be synced. Each time you sync using iTunes, it sets the non-Camera Roll photos on the phone to match the current settings/selection in iTunes.

Downloads from Safari going to trash bin

Hello,
Whenever I download files from Safari they go to the Trash bin. It's only with direct downloads using Safari as iTunes and other program downloads/updates go to the appropriate locations. I obviously messed something up (probably deleted some important download files or pathway) and I don't know how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the basic question.

If I want to create a Download folder on the desktop that Safari will download to, I'm thinking I should create it at the Macintosh HD level so that it would be at the same level as the Applications and Documents folders, right?
No. That level is for system-wide folders. There shouldn't be a Documents folder there. Documents should be in your home folder, along with a Downloads folder. If you really want the Downloads folder on the desktop, Command-Option-Drag it there. That will create an alias to it on the desktop but leave the folder in its normal location.
Instead of putting it on the desktop, why not drag it to the dock (to the right of the divider bar) or to the Finder sidebar (lower section)?

I am using iPhoto 2009. If I empty the trash bin, will it delete those pictures from albums I have created? I noticed some of the pictures appear to be the same in both the trash and album.

I have a lot of photos in my trash bin and was thinking about emptying the trash. However, I got a message that said that if emptied, I would not be able to recover them. I chickened out. I looked at several pictures in the trash and noticed that they were the same pictures in albums that I had created. I compared the numbers shown on those pictures in the trash and found that they were the same as the numbers shown in on the pictures in the albums that I had created. I would like to delete the pictures to create more space, but I don't want to lose pictures that I can't replace.

yes - albums are not copies or places - they are pointers in the databae pointing to the photo in the library - you can see it in an album, under photos or under events - but it is all the same photo - if you delete it it is gone everyplace - and no additiponal space is used for an album (or many albums - a photo can be in many albums without using any additional space
Only put photos that you do not want to keep in the trash
How much free space do you have on the disk volume that the iPhoto library is on?
