To clarify slightly what others have said, Apple licences the grey system discs that come with a Mac for use only with that specific Mac, not for use with any other Mac, even one of exactly the same model. So using them with any other Mac violates the terms of the license & should be avoided. The installer on the grey discs enforces this in part by checking the model of the Mac when it is run & refusing to install anything if the Mac is not the correct model. It displays a warning message that the disc cannot be used with that Mac & the only available option is to quit the installer.
Beyond that, while the grey discs may in fact include & install drivers for the hardware in other, older Mac models, they cannot include ones for Macs using hardware newer than the release date of the Mac they came with. In this case, the other Mac can't even start up from the installer disc & it freezes with a kernel panic before it can run the installer. This seems to be what happened here.

The solution is to restart, reset, and restore as new which is in the manual after that get it replaced for hard ware failure. if your within your one year warranty its replaced if it is out of the warranty then it is 199$

APPHANGB1 when browsing the web, or just keeping it open. Happens once in a 5 minutes, and it freezes for 30 seconds. I found many people who have this problem too ....
Odds are only someone that develops apps for iOS would have access to whatever this is and, even then, this information may still not be available.
I would do a backup of your phone & then erase it and restore from the backup to see if the odd behavior goes away. If so, something went funny with your update the first time around. If not, there's something in your backup that's making the phone throw a fit.
I resolved my battery issues (more or less) by disabling the "set date/time automatically" setting. I haven't re-enabled it yet but my battery life has been much better with it off.

it has been 24 hours and Siri still doesn't want to take any commands anyone else have this problem too? and how can I fix it? she just keeps saying there is something wrong and to try again later. I didn't buy this phone to be jipped on any features.
Mine wasnt working either but i saw in another thread that you should try Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. Ignore the warnings, all your settings have to be changed back but you dont lose any media or data, you just have to put your background back and location settings. It fixed Siri for me but dictation still doesnt work. Hopefully it works for you :-]

I am not able to install my 'Complete National Geographic' cd on my Mac mini which runs Lion OS. The error message I get says 'Can't open installer as classic environment is no longer supported' can some one suggest a solution.
It means the software is PowerPC code, which is no longer supported in Lion. Your choices are to go back to Snow Leopard, run Snow Leopard Server in a virtual machine within Lion, see if the vendor has an updated version of National Geographic that will run on an Intel Mac, or run the software on an older Mac separately.

I don't know if other customers get this problem though when i enter the correct details for my question on the security thingy-ma-jiggy, it says the details i entered are wrong. Can anyone tell me any solutions to this? Also i didn't recieve the email for reseting my questions.
If you aren't receiving the reset email to your rescue email account (and you've checked the spam folder on it as well as the inbox, and tried clicking the reset link again) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

When you reinstalled, did you first uninstall, and remove all 5 iTunes related components and any remnant files in either Program Files directory?

I downloaded a movie to my Air, but it won't sync to my ipad2 and says it's not authorized. It's not a rental. Anyone else have this problem or know how to resolve?
I ended up having a one hour conversation with Apple Support which evolved to handing over control of my screen and then eventually having to use Terminal. I wish I could remember the command but it's probably best I don't.
One thing we looked at right away was the account name used to dowload the movie. Is it the same as the account name you have saved on your iPad. That's easy to check and would be great if that is all that's needed to correct. Good luck.
Here's also an email I got from Support that could solve your problem if it's not as difficult as my issue was.
I would like to inform you that this issue can occur if iOS (your device's operating system) on your device needs to be updated. It can also happen if the computer you're trying to sync from has not been authorized to play purchases you are trying to sync.
I suggest that you first see if updating iOS on your iPad resolves the issue. This article will walk you through the process:

i upgraded my iphone os to 4.01 and i have not been able to sync to my computer. The error message I get says the Iphone connected is not recognised what can i do to solve this problem.

The sound on all of my game apps and my alerts has stopped working. Still works for Netflix, Hulu, YouTube... Anything video related. Anyone else have this problem or know what I should do to fix it?
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

I can't access my Numbers documents now that I have OS Mavericks 10.9.3. It says I need to buy an upgrade for 19.99 to access them. Anyone else have this problem?
If you upgraded from previous OS, Look in Applications folder for an iWork folder and launch old Numbers from there.
If you clean installed, look for your old install disks for iWork and reinstall.
They will run on Mavericks but they need to be there. -

I have been trying to reinstall 10.4 on my powerbook g4 1.67 15" and I am finding that my laptop is having a hard time booting from a DVD. I have tried starting up the computer holding down Option as well as starting up holding down C. I have tried using the retail black Install disc for 10.4. I tried what I believe is the original gray install disc (Mac OS 10.2.7 / AHT v. 2.0.4 / DVD v. 1.1 / 691-4676-A). I also mounted a copy of the retail 10.4 on my external drive. All attempts to boot from the install disc are unsuccessful.
When booting from retail 10.4 disc, I encountered a screen at startup requesting I install batteries in my apple mouse (keep in mind this is powerbook with nothing plugged into usb nor firewire). Plugging in a mouse just got me to a blue screen.
When booting from the gray dvd that came with my computer I am getting what looks like kernel panics (a distorted fractal band across the gray apple screen) when starting up holding down c. When I start up holding down Option, and select Apple Hardware Test I get a folder with a ? and mac face. The disc runs then stops and runs and stops. I have let it run for about 10 minuets and nothing comes of it.
When booting from the external drive I would get the initial install screens, where you select language and then the process freezes - the mouse freezes and the computer does nothing.
I also just purchased a new/larger HD, installed it and gave that a try - same results.
My computer & DVD are running fine all this aside.
Has anyone encountered this. Any suggestions?
I plan to give an external DVD drive a try, once I can borrow one.
Thanks.Hi, vcou. The gray OS X 10.2.7 installer disc did not come with your 1.67GHz Powerbook and is of no use at all with it. Put that disc aside; it was shipped with an earlier PB model. Your PB requires a minimum of OS X 10.3.7 or 10.4 to boot, depending on whether it was produced early in its production cycle or later in the run. If you can find the disc that was originally shipped with your Powerbook, try to start the machine with it and see what happens.
The black retail OS X 10.4 DVD should work, provided your PB's optical drive is functioning properly, the disc isn't dirty or damaged, and the build of 10.4 on the DVD is at least the same as the one your Powerbook was shipped with (Build 8A428). Have you started the PB using that DVD in the past? If so, then of course you know it should work. If not, then you don't know for certain that it should work.
The best case here is that your retail DVD has worked in the past, is not scratched, and just needs a good cleaning. Or the drive needs a cleaning (get a cleaning disc from a local computer store, Best Buy, Radio Shack or record/DVD store).
