  • ITunes could not restore iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored...

I replaced a faulty iPhone 4S with a new handset today, another iPhone 4S.  I was certain to backup my previous iPhone 4S to iTunes on my PC before returning the faulty unit.  The new phone was 'set up' at the Apple Store and updated to the current iOS, 7.0.4, as was the faulty unit prior to replacement.  Upon connecting the new unit to iTunes to restore to the most recent restore point from earlier in the day, the following message was shown:
"iTunes could not restore iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored."
I've browsed other forums and have contacted the Apple Store Genius Bar, and will hear from the Lead Genius tomorrow.  In the meantime, I am hoping someone may have information for me on what I may need to do in order to restore my phone as I'd anticipated doing by now.  My photos, email and text messages are what is affected and have not repopulated.  My music is accessable via iCloud without a problem and my contacts were kept via SIM.  I regularly copy my Camera Roll from my iPhone to my computer, and most of my photos are still viewable via Apple TV/My Photo Stream however only through the photos last saved.  The 348 recent photos that were on my faulty unit, and viewable in My Photo Stream were presumedly safe, but have disappeared.
I have yet to shut down or restart my computer, nor have I exited out of iTunes, for the simple reason that I'd anticipated returning home with the new handset and plug it into my computer to restore right away.  I did, but that's as far as I've gotten.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Had the exact same problem whilst upgrading my iphone 4 to ios5. Lost all my data.
Backed up ios 4.3 (8F190) iphone4. Upgraded to ios 5.1 (9B176), and then tried to restore.
No joy, repeated the restore attempts countless times - lost all my data
Tried again with a simulated test.
Created a new itunes account on a new PC (64-bit windows 7), latest itunes(10.6.1.7- 64 bit).
As my data is toast, I'm using the ios 5.1 phone to try to see if it was me or an apple bug, or something elsewhich caused this to happen.
After quite a few more hours at it, it looks like a bug in iTunes / ios. I would be very happy to be wrong, though.
Tried repeatedly restoring an ios 4.3 backup to 5.1 - no joy.
Happy to try again - it does restore partially (got the call register transferred, but no SMS'es or anything else).
    Any ideas?

  • After installingwindow 8.1 preview, itune does not recognize iphone

After IO update and and installing window 8.1 preview, Itune does not recognize iphone.
I went to devise manager and it tells me everything is working properly, but can not read the iphone on itune.
    Please help with this problem
    Thanks

You shouldn't be running the "preview" anymore. Microsoft released the full 8.1 update last Friday (10/18).
The "preview" is a beta and should NOT be relied on for any further use. Microsoft explained this in their "preview" downloads.

  • ITunes could not restore iPhone (from backup) because not enough free space on *iPhone*?!

    Hey everyone,
I recently upgraded to iOS 6 and before I upgraded, I made sure to make a backup because I know upgrading to the new OS can often cause people to lose their things. After upgrading to iOS 6, I found I had everything except for all my messages and some of my contacts (it appears all contacts I added within the past 6-7 months or so are gone, but the older ones are there). I need my messages and those newer contacts, so I want to restore from the backup I made before upgrading to iOS 6, but unfortunately, I get an error message saying iTunes could not restore from backup because there is not enough free space on my iPhone. Note, not my computer or my hard disk, my iPhone. First of all I don't see why I would need free space on my iPhone to restore it, and secondly, I have about 5GBs of free space on it. What can I do?

Yes. Those are the only ones saved by iTunes, as the working assumption is that all the other photos are on your computer and thus can be synced from that source, without the backup duplicating them and taking long time and lots of space. Photos on the camera roll are assumed to be not yet Transferred.
    A few random-thoughts suggestions...
Not sure if you tried this multiple times, but it might worth doing. Just remember to cancell the Sync as soon after connecting so you don't overwrite the backup.
    1. Check if you still have an older backup that might have the pictures. Follow the instruction by user Linda Custer in this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13011509#13011509
    2. Check the links in the More Like This box on the right, or do a search for your issue on these forums or on Google.
    3. Find third party utilities that treat the iPhone as an external USB disk and therefore allow for extracting photo files directly from the device, bypassing iTunes. Search here, Google or check MacUpdate:  http://www.macupdate.com/
And perhaps the most obvious, that I forgot to ask about:
    4. If you switched iCloud on, and selected backup to iCloud you should have a backup outside of your computer; just select the iCloud backup, instead of the local one, for Restore.
    5. If you switched iCloud on and checked PhotoStream on, you should have the camera roll photos in the cloud and can retrieve them from the cloud via the Web site, your Photo app, etc.
    Good luck.

  • ITunes does not detect iPhone - ON A MAC

I have seen many posts on this topic, but the ones I read were all on PCs. I am running a Mac.
    • 1GHz PowerPC G4
    • 768 MB DDR SDRAM
    • iTunes 7.4.2 (4)
    • All updates on iPhone
iTunes does not recognize the iPhone. I have to keep restarting iTunes and reconnecting the iPhone approx. 4-5 times before it picks it up.....
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

It looks like your computer is USB 1.1 only. Your Multi-Function Printer (MFP) is USB 2.0, but running at USB 1.1 speeds (Up to 12Mb/sec). There is also the potential something to do with the printer or printer software could be interfering as well. Have you tried connecting the iPhone with the printer disconnected?
USB 1.1 may work, but its not supported, and issues like you are describing can occur with USB 1.1.

  • ITunes could not restore iPhone because the iPhone disconnected

I cannot restore my iPhone from my encrypted backup. iTunes begins the restore process displaying 2 hours remaining and after about 45 minutes I get a message on the screen that iTunes could not restore the iPhone because it disconnected. It also says restore failed in the phone.
I have tried multiple things: reinstalling iTunes, resetting sync history, trying to restore on an IPhone 3GS, trying a different cable and both USB ports on my computer and unchecking the 'allow computer to turn off this device to save power' in the USB options on device manager.
I visited the Apple store after exhausted all of the options I listed and they suggested try restoring from another computer. They said it is not a corrupted backup. I tried on another windows laptop but that did not work either.
The size of the backup is 14.8gb. It took approx. an hour to backup the phone.
I found others with the similar problem on this thread. Theirs is not a restore problem it's a backup one.

  • New Iphone 3G - Army Laptop - USB Disabled- ITunes does not see Iphone

I have a new Iphone 3G and am trying to sync up my Outlook Address Book, however my computer is a US Army Laptop that has the USB disabled. The XP operating system recognizes the device as a camera but ITunes does not see the Iphone. Any suggestions or am I out of luck?

You will have to use a different computer that isn't from DoD. As you know they have disabled USB ports except for mice/keyboards because of various world wide issues, they are being very strict about this and I don't see them enabling it for an iPhone when they wouldn't let me use them for 5 minutes to get some data from an old dying machine.

  • ITunes does not detect iPhones/iPods - tried everything

Okay, so 2 months ago I got my new Macbook Pro 17". iTunes wouldn't detect my iphone or any other iphone. I tried everything suggested on these forums (hopefully not true), but couldn't get it to work. I gave up and was hoping some sort of itunes update would solve it. Well itunes has been updated and even the OS has been updated to Snow Leopard. It didn't help
I am willing to try anything you suggest, so please keep them coming. Really want to get this sorted now.
Thanks so much for all your help.

Great to hear you have resolved the problem. I am running Tiger 10.4.7 not your 10.6.1 which I beleive is Leopard which I cannot update to as my computer is not suitable. Have you heard if anyone with my OS version has had success. I have tried removing iTunes v9 and then downloading v8.2.1, however I am still unable to gat iTunes to open when I connect my iPhone and iTunes does not acknowledge the connection in the side bar.
    Suggestions please.

  • When I sync my iPhone 4 (iOS 7) with my computer, the iTunes does not show "iPhone" button right beside the "iTunes Store" button.

Also, iTunes does not detect any device connected to the computer.

    Hi, Arthur330.
Thank you for the question.  I am unsure if you are having the issue with your device not being recognized on a Windows or Mac computer so I will include the troubleshooting articles for both below.

  • Windows & iTunes Does Not Recognize iPhone 4 But It Charges?

I have an iPhone 4 16 GB Factory Unlocked. Yesterday it was fully working. I don't know why, today, my PC doesn't recognize it, even as an camera. I don't see Apple Mobile Device USB Driver listed in the device manager. Tried several programs concerned with iPhone, but no luck.
Uninstalled everything related Apple like iTunes, Bonjour, Apple Application Support etc., and used a program called "ByeTunes". Reinstalled iTunes but it does not work. I tried plugging it to my laptop, still doesn't work.
Also, I'm using Windows 7 x64, and re-installed Apple Mobile Device Support for 64-bit several times. It didn't work.
However my phone charges, does not beep that plugging sound or show charging indicator but the battery level increases, when I plug it to my computer. But when I try to charge with firewire it works.
And last, my PC can recognize my phone in DFU mode, fortunately. But I'm afraid of being stucked at restoring process.
    What should I do?
    Thanks.

I am facing the same issue. Tried everything like, Reinstall Itunes, Tries the sync on 3 diffrent laptops with windoes 7, XP and vista, Connecting in restore mode, DFU, Apple mobile devices restarted..nothing has worked. I am not sure if i do "erase all setting and content" will help  because if the i tunes cant recognise the i phone now, then after erasing everything will it recognise to restore??
Can any 1 help if i do " erase all setting and content" will help and will itunes recognise the iphone then?

  • DFU Mode and iTunes does not Restore only Update

So we terminated one of our employees and he put a lock on the company issued phone.  I've put the phone in DFU Mode so I can just restore it through iTunes but iTunes keeps trying to Update before the restore then saying it cannot because the device is locked.  How do I get iTunes to ONLY do the restore and not the update?

You mean a passcode lock?  Try recovery mode.
Have iTunes up and running on the computer.  Make sure it has the most recent update (11.0.4, I think)
Turn off the iPhone.  Connect the USB cable to the computer, but not the iPhone.
Press & hold down the Home button on the iPhone, then plug in the cable to the phone.  Wait until you see a picture that has the iTunes logo, an arrow, and a picture of the cable.  Then you can let go of the Home button.
iTunes should detect a device in recovery mode.  The rest is pretty straightforward, although this article shold help. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
Be advised, everything on the phone will be wiped.  It will be like new, no user data.
There's no way to avoid putting the newest iOS on the device, though.  Not sure if that matters to you.

  • ITunes does not recognise iPhone 5s on Windows 8

I have the latest version of iTunes and also the latest version of OS for iPhone 5s (7.1).
I have only noticed this problem since these updates. My iPhone is recognised by my Windows 8 OS in Computer and I can import pictures/videos, however, iTunes will not identify the device.
I have ran the diagnostics tests via iTunes and followed all recommended suggestions but to no avail.
    Reboot iPhone
    Reboot Laptop
    Uninstall iTunes & re-install
Stoped apple mobile device service and restarted
    reinstalled drivers
    iTunes Helper is running
    Disable all startup items
    Deleted Temp folder
    Temporarily disable firewall
Does anyone have any suggestions other than the above that I could try please?
    Thank you
    Pete

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
    restart pc after uninstall

  • ITunes does not 'see' iPhone in new iMac

I am not sure if I should post this in the iPhone Forum or here ... but I just bought a new 21" iMac and used the Migration utility to copy all my data over from my MacBook. It seems to be fine and everything is working correctly BUT ... when I plug in my iPhone it does not show up in iTunes. I did go into iTunes and "authorize" my new computer ... buy it still does not see my iPhone.
I am sure there is a simple answer to this but I can't figure out what it is.
    Thanks for your help!!

Check your System Profiler and see if the computer is recognizing the phone in there (if it's not, try a new cord). If it is, login to another User account and see if the iTunes in there sees the phone. If it isn't,you might try reinstalling iTunes.

  • Itunes does not sync iphone

    Hello
today, I have a new problem:
My iphone (4) does not synch with itunes (10.6 (7), although it is recognized and displayed. when I activate the "sync"-command, itunes says "waiting for iphone to synchronize until it times out.
After resetting the phone, which worked, I used the last backup (which worked), but all my 3rd-party apps are now gone.
Disabling all media-sync did not work.
It is to say that I have 2 apple-accounts, an old one, with which I made all media- and app-purchases, and a newer me.com account, which I use to sync my data (mail, address-book, ical) through icloud.
I suspect this dual apple-ID-thing to be the problem, is that so?
As far as I know, there is no possibility to update an app from the old registration-ID to the newer one? ( I would prefer to stick with me.com, although most of the apps run under the old ID)
    Thanks for help!

All purchased apps, books, music, movies, etc are forever tied to the Apple ID used. You can use the same Apple ID for syncing with the iCloud. The me.com account is a free iCloud e-mail.
