thanksif itunes can no longer pickup your ipod, and you cant even do anything to your ipod, your best option is to either call apple care, or just take it to the nearest apple shop. i had a similar problem, mines currently at apple care repairs and they might just end up giving me a replacement.

Ask him if he has 'jailbroken' the ipod touch. Some jailbreaking firmware resets it to Ipad firmware and so it is very difficult to restore as itunes simply doesnt recognise it for what it is. It's Apple's solution to try and stop mass jailbreaking.

When I tried to update to the latest version of itunes, I kept getting a message saying installation failed and if the problem persisted I should try to install manually. While upgrading my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.2 something went wrong and came up with the message "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred [1015]." Now it will not start at all. It just stays on screen with USB and the iTune picture. What can I do to get it going again. I only tried to upgrade because I was prompted to up-grade and now I am helpless. I did a backup before starting the upgrade. The error message did not tell what to do next. Any help is very much appreciated.
Usually that means the iPhone was hacked to unlock it from the original
carrier .
Updating the operating system locks it back to that original carrier

It's 99% sure theat the iPhone was hacked/jailbroken to use another carrier or downgrading IOS. There's no help with this.
