    All what steps?
Did you go through the troubleshooting information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
    and
    Check USB connections
    Related errors: 13, 14, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response,” and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.
If so, then it's a hardware problem. Make an appointment at the genius bar and get it replaced. Based on the "it was water damaged", I think it's a safe bet that it's toast.

  • Tried Everything..iPhone 3g will not restore to factory settings!

I get a message saying "Windows does not recognize the device, one of the USB devices has malfunctioned." I have tried everything..watched You tube to find out how to restore phone..made sure iTunes was up to date..uninstalled iTunes..installed iTunes. No matter what I do..my iPhone will not show up in iTunes or restore. I even went into AT&T store to find out what else I could do and the guy told me I needed to hold down both buttons for 15 minutes, and definately something would show up on the iphone if not iTunes to restore the phone. I held those buttons till i couldn't feel my fingers anymore, and still nothing. I just want to see if my iPhone is broke before I buy the new iPhone 4. Also I have an iPod 2nd Gen. No problem with that not showing up in iTunes, so that's why I'm thinking it is in fact my phone that has the problem. I don't want to take it to the Apple Store, they'll just charge me $30. So if anyone else has any suggestions, would really appreciate it..I'm at my wits end. Thank You!

  • Ipad Air disabled and will not restore to factory settings.

    Hi Guys,
I recently had my ipad disabled by my little brother. He didn't know the password and kept going until he was completely locked out of it. I am familiar with restoring the device as it has happened once before.
That time it all went smoothly. However now I cant seem to get past the updates. Every time I try to restore the device it begins to update and then fails an hour into the process. It's so bloody frustrating.
Is there any particular reason why this update keeps failing or anyone know how I can restore without updating??
If it helps I receive a message of an "unknown error -39" which keeps appearing.
All help will be greatly appreciated as I have important projects on this thing

I do not know that that particular code means, but many times, antivirus software and USB connections can have a negative impact on restoring with iTunes.
My suggestion would be to quit iTunes, restart both devices, disable your firewall and antivirus software, and use another USB a port if you have one to use.

Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com
Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3014, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. FollowiTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • After updating to os5, my iPad will not restore. What do I do?

When I attempt to restore my iPad it first says: An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1).  When I hit okay on that it then says: iTunes could not restore the iPad because an error occured. I have gone through all of the suggested tips on the website but it is still not working. Any ideas?

    All sorted now!!
Check out this thread by MrCEO
Updated iPad 1 to IOS 5. When trying to restore my iPad from my backup it gets half way through and the iPad reboots and iTunes says "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1)"
    The answer is to:
set up my iPod (or iPad - should work the same) as a new iPod. Then in iTunes I synced everything as if it was a new iPod. After the sync was complete I right clicked on my iPod on the left in iTunes and selected restore from backup. I selected the right backup file (the older version, not the one just created) and it worked!!

  • Why won't my iPad Retina Display restore to factory settings?

I have an iPad with Retina Display, and I can't restore it to factory settings. I tried updating it to iOS 8 and the screen went black and showed an Apple Logo, with the loading bar underneath. At first I thought it was updating, but halfway through the load, the screen went black and showed a Loading Symbol in the middle of the screen, as if I were to "Power" it down. And it did this multiple times after I restarted it by holding down the home and power button. At first it loaded normally, but then it did the same thing. The screen went black, and showed the apple logo... I tried resetting it to factory settings and it wont show up in my iTunes on my computer as in recovery mode. And I have no idea how to fix it.

  • Apple Configurator will not restore my WiFi settings

We have 120 iPads 1's running iOS 5.1.1, I created an backup from an iPad whos Wifi setting are pre-configured and working.
I then take a backup of that iPad and attempt to restore it to several others. The Wifi setting will not carry over to the other devices.
    please help....

What I've done is create an enrolment wireless LAN
Create a profile for the enrolment wireless in apple configurator with auto join on
Along with auto device enrol and trust certificate just the bare minimum to enable enrolment
As you'd normally want to do most configuration from your mdm
In the mdm I've configured profiles for the wireless I want the device to connect to and enable auto join eg staff
And any other profiles required for the user, mail, VPN, ldap etc
Use apple configurator to prepair the device and get in enrolled
Once it's enrolled it will have whatever profiles you've configured in the mdm for the device
Turn off the enrolment wireless LAN and the device auto joins whatever wireless you've configured in profile manager
If you turn the enrolment wireless back on it won't auto join the enrolment wireless unless the wireless you've configured in profile manager and pushed to the device is off or it can't connect for some reason
If any wifi changes are nessesary turn your enrolment wifi back on and push out whatever you need
Having the enrolment wireless give you a sort of back door into he device when needed
