Even a four-year-old MacBook should have come with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Leopard can run the latest version of iTunes; it will download and install pretty much automatically if you run Software Update.
You might first have to be sure that you are running the latest version of Leopard, which is 10.5.8. This, too, will download and install for you if you run Software Update. Just keep running Software Update until there is nothing left to download and install (you might have to run it more than once because some updates require previous updates to be installed first).
If you have a version of Mac OS X earlier than 10.5, then you can't run the latest version of iTunes. You will need to buy a more recent version of Mac OS X. You must be running at least 10.4 Tiger, and you can upgrade directly to Snow Leopard from Tiger. Apple still sells Snow Leopard for about $30 and you might find it slightly less at a retailer or on eBay. After upgrading to Snow Leopard, you will be able to upgrade to Lion using the Mac App Store for another $30 or so if your MacBook meets the minimum system requirements.

Hey Pandorafromtn, Not to rub salt in you open wounds, but prevention would have cost less than $10! Anything that will remove the scratches will most likely ruin the screen. I am aware of a product that works well for fill scratches in eyeglasses. It paints on, is kind of milky semi-transparent then drys to a haze. You then rub / polish until clear. Will it damage the coating on an iPod screen? I don't know. But may be for not, I can't remember the name of the stuff. I guess contact a eye care center, they may be able to help. Replacing the screen would be the best option you have or learn to live with it. In the future use a case and/or screen protector. Or you could start working on your incantations, "Oculus Repairus!" Don't forget the flick of the wrist to get your wand in the correct angle as you state "Repairus". All joking aside, Good luck. Cheers.

Sorry but no. You have to place the iPod in Recovery Mode and connect to your computer and restore via iTunes.

IPhone crashes during updates requiring restore & going over capacity

During the last two update 7.0.3 and 7.0.4 my phone failed mid update requiring a restore. This is a major headache. I am using an iPhone 4S and really don't have the time to keep having to restore the phone which takes a looooong time.
Moreover with the 7.0.4 update the phone mysteriously went from 1GB of space free to 500mb overcapacity.
Since I use my phone near capacity this is a real frustration for me.
Usually during restores if anything I find that the software seems to compact the space used when the apps are reloaded.
Not this time.
What happened?

I finally rid the error (Windows Firewall was blocking iTunes).
I did the restore but I'm still getting weird capacity ratings. They are constantly changing too.
Now it says it's not over capacity, but I have 0.36gb to spare - except it won't upload all of my songs and it's stuck at 3600 songs. When my library was 5700 songs.
Then after that, it said that everything was uploaded and I had 14gb to spare, which changes to 13gb to spare depending on when I connect it to my iPhone. (But again, not all of my stuff is uploaded).
So I know there's definitely a problem here, because the over capacity is not consistent.

ITunes crashed during sync, now Podcasts have sound but no video.

My wife has a 5th gen 30GB iPod. It has the latest system software from iPod Updater, and we're running the latest iTunes.
Yesterday she was doing a sync, and iTunes crashed on her in the middle of it. Now, even with an iPod Restore and reset, and a restart of her Windows XP machine, Podcasts won't play properly on the iPod. They play fine in iTunes, but only the audio portion plays on the iPod. Non-Podcast video (such as music videos) plays fine on the iPod.
What happened here? What's wrong?

An update (and a solution):
Looks like the iTunes crash was only a clue as to what was happening elsewhere, and a slightly misleading clue at that.
Video Podcasts were placing themselves in the "Music" section on the iPod, and it was from there that we were attempting to play them. This worked just fine until iTunes's crash. After the crash, only the audio part would play.
It was only late last night that after lots of investigation my wife discovered that the video Podcasts were ALSO installing themselves into a "Videos > Video Podcasts" sub section!
It's stupidly obvious now, but was not yesterday: Video Podcasts will only play the audio portion when played from the "Music" section, but will play both audio and video when played from "Video > Video Podcasts". For some reason we had not discovered the "Video Podcasts" subsection until last night.
Then a second solution was discovered to have been necessary. One Podcast video still would not play properly, even from the correct section. This turned out to be due to a need to "Convert" it to play on the iPod. This page has the answer to that:

iTunes online Help has all the answers to this, but we thought it was an iPod problem, and the iPod manual was no help at all. The answers to this in iTunes Help are found under:

It really helps to PRINT those two subjects, so you can refer to the paper page instead of trying to toggle back and forth between the iTunes screen and its Help screen.

Sadly without the system disk you can't do a lot. I would suggest you enable root user, log in as root and reset your administrators password, however you can't without knowing the administrator password first.
The only solution would be is to obtain the correct system disk or buy a retail copy of Mac OS X. But note, it depends on what version of the iBook you own depends, on what version of Mac OS X you will require.
You can still obtain the system disk or retail disks from online vendors, but they come at a cost.
System disk are grey in color, while retail disk have a big 'X' on it.

Is there a way to get a wallpaper without it being zoomed in?

The wallpapers that come with the PB are ok but I can find better ones I like on google and download them and I have pictures of my car I took and both the downloaded ones and the camera pictures are very zoomed in when I set them as wallpaper. That zoomed in they look pixilated and a lot of the actual picture gets cut out. Is there a way I can get a full picture as a wallpaper like the wallpaper ones that came with it, but without using those ones, using downloaded ones or camera pictures.

Found my own solution, the blackberry wallpaper apps (the free ones) never worked or would load the pictures but today I found an android port that was free and it has a good selection and I see how they are configured. The picture is really small when viewing but when set as a wallpaper it fits the dimensions perfectly, but if you want to use a camera picture or one off of google you can pinch the photo while viewing it to make it smaller and then take a screenshot of it and it will fit better, it might be alittle more grainy than the properly formatted ones from the wallpaper app but if you really want to use your own atleast with the method I came up with you can get the whole picture to be shown. It would be so much easier if there just was a wallpaper setting and you could crop or choose how you want your picture to be displayed.
