Turn off screen while using Drive

Hi,
How can I turn off screen, to save battery, while using Drive? When I press power button, screen turns off, but I lose voice navigation.

What is the model of your device? If you're referring to the Nokia Drive application, this is a normal behavior. The screen must be active for the application to work properly. my 4s will turn off suddenly while using ,and i have to hit home and power button same time to turn on the iphone.it happens every two days,and sometimes twice a day.is it a hardware problem?

you want to restore the device as new after backing up your information then test it out
that will tell you whether its the device itself or the software causing the issue
sometimes apps can be corrupt or anything liek that causing it to do that

Application windows off screen while using external monitor

Hi,
I am using my MacBook frequently with an external monitor attached (lid closed). It happens now, that some applications (e.g.Finder) open windows outside of the screen. What can I do?
This is especially annoying when I want to copy a file and Finder opens the 'Replace/Stop' window and I can't do anything because this windows is outside of the screen (I only see it when pressing F10).
Any ideas?

I had this happen last night. I was moving a window and it dissappeared. It was off screen. I could see it wit F10 but that was all. What I did was close the window under file in toolbar. Then I opened a new window under the same command in the toolbar. This brought the new window up in the visible window. Hope this helps.

Turn off screen while apps run Need help

I'm running the SiriusXM app to stream music but I don't want the screen to keep after I choose my station. Does anyone know of a way to blank the screen? Is there a setting so when there is no touch activity it goes blank?
Also If you switch tabs it won't keep running the music in the background? I have a choice tunes or surf but not both?

You should be able to just tap the power button to turn off the screen. The app should keep running just fine.
If it doesn't, that's a problem with the app. I also have a music app in the Android Market and it is possible for the programmer to grab what are called "sleep locks" to enable the screen to be turned off without losing required resources like WiFi and the CPU. My app lets the screen dim, but not go off... however, the user can turn the screen off and the app keeps working.

Macbook: Turn off screen while streaming audio

I want to use my macbook for an input in my audio system. I am going to stream audio, but because I intend to use it in a darkened room, I wish to be able to make the screen shut off. Is there a command to do that or another way to do it?

Yes, you can put the screen/display to sleep by creating a "Hot Corner"
Open the Desktop & Screen saver Preferences, click Hot Corners (bottom left) and select one of the four screen corners and then select "Sleep Display."
When you are streaming, just move your cursor to that particular corner and there you are.

Disable turn off screen while youtube is watching

I want disable screen blanking if I am watching something in fullscreen(eg YouTube).
If I watching movies in offline player (VLC) there is no problem, screen not blanking. It happens when I watching online players like YT.
How can i fix them?

Turn off laptop screen while using iTunes? Or best screen saver?

Is there a way to turn off the iBook display and still let the computer use iTunes? I can't find anything on this. If that isn't possible, what would be the best screen saver for actually saving the screen? If you know what I mean....

This came to my attention when a friend of mine was using his MacBook to run a movie on a television, and he was complaining about the fact that the MacBook display could not be shut off while exporting the feed to the tv. You've answered my question, but I'm going to amend the topic to include shutting off screen while exporting a video feed--perhaps someone knows the answer to that. (I don't have anything to port a feed too, or I'd try it myself.) Thank you!

Flickering Screen while Using

Does anyone have the "flickering/blinking" screen while using the laptop? I also used the stress test and nothing has found.

At this point I would recommeng resetting the device if if will not turn on.
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

How do I Turn off my Optical Disc Drive - Satellite: P745-S4217

I would like to turn off the Optical Disk Drive because the ODD checks for a disc every now and then, very randomly (I can hear and feel the laser tray move around looking for a disc, I can't imagine that it is very good for it to do this so often) and also to save power.
I have read that some (most) computers have Optical Drive power management options where they can turn ons and turn offs setting but on my computer (Satellite: P745-S4217) there is no option for me to change the "Optical Drive power management" once I get into the TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings - I can only change "Cooling Method"
Also, I have options when I right-click on the icon in my taskbar... I can enable "Optical drive auto lock" and then choose between three "Unlock time settings": one, three, or five seconds. But it doesn't change anything.

So have you tried all the tricks posted online? The best one for me is to take a thin piece of plastic like from a salad container. Fold it over and make two "lips". Insert that into the drive and it will help guide the disc out.
Is your MBP under warranty? Then take it in. Don't void your warranty.
Otherwise use the iFixIt guide:

for the non retina.
Disconnect the optical drive cable. If it's really stuck and you feel up to it you can take the drive out and and take it apart (guides all over the net) to remove the disc.
However it sounds like the disc isn't that stuck so any of those tricks should work.
