Turning off all data roaming?

Hi guys,
I'm going abroad this Friday and I want to make absolutely sure that even if someone opens Safari on my iPhone, that it won't connect to Edge over there because I don't want to pay the ridiculous data charges.
Does anyone know how I can do this?

Settings => General => Network
Ensure Data Roaming is Off.
It won't access data services when abroad. It will notify you if you try to telling you it is off.

  • Nokia Lumia 610 How to turn off all data roaming ...

    I've read in other forums that it's not enough to turn off data roaming.  Apparently apps that use the internet will turn roaming back on in Windows phones.  Can anyone offer a complete and definitive list of instructions for turning roaming off abroad?  I would prefer to be able to access wifi hotspots so don't want to simply turn on airplane mode.  Thanks.

    Could you let us know which forum and what apps?

    Trying to use itunes while driving is a hazard because of all the extra unnecessary extra clicks to confirm YES I KNOW THE DATA IS OFF "I DISABLED IT"!! All by myself..

  • Turning off all data messaging

    I have 3 phones on a family plan and every time I upgrade a phone I start getting text messages when I have gone through great pains to have all text messages turned off. Now I'm getting charged for them.  What can I do to stop this from happening again?

  • How to turn off all data connections?

    hi
    im have an N95 8gb on o2 and im happy to let it connect to o2 as often as it can via O2 active/web as im on an unlimited data plan...however i go to the USA once a week and even though i disconnect the data connection, sometimes i look at the phone and it has connected overseas, meaning a huge roaming data charge, is there anyway i can set it to never connect then manually change it back when im in the UK again
    thanks

    Most applications allow you to set the way it accesses the network (E.G. When Needed, or when available) also under Tools->Settings->COnnection->Packet data you can select this.
    Also you have to do it for each individual application like Email, Maps, Browser or other ones you may have.

  • Going overseas turning off all unnecessary data updates

    We're going overseas and have read we should turn off all unnecessary data updates. What would one turn off? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

    Very good question, as too many people don't ask it and are confronted with huge bills coming home from a holiday.
    The answer of wjosten is applicable when you don't want to make or to be able to receive calls or send/receive SMS messages. In short: you'll use your iPhone at WIFI spots to access the internet.
    If would like to remain reachable and be able to make calls I recommend your turn off all data usage through telephony networks when abroad, which you can do in Settings -> General -> Network -> Data Roaming
    Note that generally when abroad you'll pay when answering a call and, optionally, receiving an SMS. Your service provider should be able to provide with the rates for this, as well as the rates for making a call or sending an SMS from the country you're in.
    To check your e-mail and browse the web follow the advice of wjosten and look for WIFI networks on you destination. Even if they're not free, they are for sure cheaper than using the telephone network via your iPhone.

  • Turning off all battery draining services but keeping phone reception?

    Is it possible to switch off all the services that drain batter life such as GPRS, EDGE, WI-FI etc etc etc with one switch and still keeping your phone reception. I know you can turn the phone on Airplane Mode but this loses your phone reception.
    Also, can i ask. Does airplane mode turn off everything i mentioned above?

    Airplane Mode turns off:
    * All data types (WiFi, Edge, 3G, and GPRS) (WiFi can be turned on manually)
    * Your telephone service
    * Bluetooth
    * Location Services
    It doesn't turn off music and videos or local games. Games that use high definition or applications like Navigon use the most power drain.

    it's my understanding that when traveling overseas, all i have to do is turn off cellular data to avoid high data charges.

    With Airplane Mode you will not receive phone calls.  If you are just worried about Data Charges then just go to Settings>Cellular>Data 'Off'  This may also turn your iMessage off such that all your iMessages even in a WiFi environment go out as Text Messages.  If you still want to use iMessage from Apple device to Apple device in a WiFi network then go to Settings>Messages> and turn it back on after you have set Cellular Data to Off.  Ckuan is correct though about having some per minute received or outgoing call and text charges.  For one example, if you were traveling in Canada but didn't have a Canada Plan you would pay about 89 cents per minute and 50 cents per send / receive Text.

  • How to turn off all cellular service (not just data) without airplane mode?

    Hi,
    I work in a lab where cell service is minimal.  In iOS8, can we turn off all cellular service (not just cellular data) without using airplane mode?  It would also be helpful to be able to keep GPS on with all cell service turned off when hiking.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Unfortunately, no. To turn off cellular service, requires the device to be put into Airplane Mode, which also turns off the GPS receiver.

  • Turning off Ceeluar data

    I am using a 3gs with 3.1.1.
    I am trying to ensure all celluar data is turned off, at present 'Data roaming' is turned off as are Location Services and 3g,(no chance of 3g in this area) but going into General> Network there does not appear to be an option there to turn off celluar data.
    Any advise of what functions should be turned off to stop all celluar data would be appreciated.

    Settings>General>Network should have a Cellular toggle, but if all else fails and you want to make sure you don't use any cellular data, turn Airplane Mode on under Settings.
    Thanks for your reply.
    Under the Network settings there is only the option to toggle on/off 3gand Data roaming and going further into 'Celluar Data Network' there is no option there either.
    Unfortunately airplane mode will not prove viable as the phone is still needed for phone calls/sms.
    I am trying to stop daily mystery WAP charges that have been appearing for more than a month. The only time Apps and Mail are used is when connected to the home wi-fi.
    Is their any way to reset the Celluar toggle so it is visible?

  • Can I turn off cellular data but still text?

    I just got billed for a $113 phone bill, all because of data. I don't travel, so it isn't roaming. Can I turn off cellular data but still text? I have free texting (plan) so I want to be able to text without wifi, but whenever I go onto games or anything without wifi, it says "turn on cellular data" or something similar, with two options (Okay, and Settings) I tap okay and exit the game, but it still charges me and it turns cellular on for the game. I don't want to continue getting charged for cellular games and such, but I still want texting. Is there anyway to get that?

    Next time click Settings. Clicking OK is telling the message that you want to "turn on Cellular Data".
    And again, did you look in Settings>Cellular under the "Use Cellular Data" section to see if your games show up in that list?

  • How do you turn off cellular data on Ipad Air 2 with IOS 8.1.2

    We have three new iPad Air 2s within the family. All have wi-fi capability but we are not needing to suscribe to it at this time, plan to use it on trips away from home. All of them get a popup message every 1-2 hours reminding to select a cellular plan. If it were only asking to select a cellular carrier I would understand, but when you do that it requires you to select a plan and add payment info for it. We are not ready to do that at this time. There is no "off" button on the cellular setting as there is on the iPhone. Is there a way to turn off the constant reminders to add a cellular plan?

    There is no option to not sign up for the data plan.  I just returned from the Apple Genius Bar and my genius said the only way to stop the message now is to remove the SIM card, but be sure to keep it in a safe place for when I want to activate Cellular.  The change from the older iPads is that the pre-installed SIM is a generic one that will work with ATT, TMobile and Verizon.  In the past you selected your carrier when you purchased the iPad and their dedicated SIM card was installed.  I really dislike this solution, especially keeping up with the itsy bitsy SIM card and having it readily available when I need it.  I did try a temporary solution mentioned in another thread to tell Siri to turn off Cellular Data.  She will do it, but it resets when you reboot the iPad.  That is preferable to me than removing and keeping up with the SIM card.
