Turning Wireless apple keyboard off.

This might be a very simple thing to achieve, turning the wireless keyboard off, but I don't seem to find information on how to do it. I have looked on instructions book, which recommends to turn it off when not using it and in old post with no success in finding an answer.
Please could someone help me? the keyboard seem to be chewing the batteries very quickly.
Cheers.

Hello g:
Note in that article that the KB (and mouse) go into a very low power mode when not in use. I never turn mine off unless I am going to be away for a few days. Battery life is essentially a function of use, not turning a device off and on.
Let me suggest that you consider using rechargeable batteries. I use 2650 mAh Duracells and a 15 minute charger (available from both Energizer and Duracell). In that way, I am never without batteries and I do not throw batteries into landfills.

  • Wireless Apple Keyboard connection lost message

I couldn't find a better place to post this so I am just posting here. On my Mac Mini connected to my TV I have a bluetooth wireless apple keyboard. Works great except when watching a movie and the keyboard goes to sleep. I get this connection lost message on the screen that keeps coming up at various times. Is there a way to disable that message so the movie isn't interrupted with that message flashing up on the screen?

Interesting, mine were at 68% so I've just changed them, will report back here if that's helped.
But it's worrying if it is the answer since this update is supposed to help save battery power!
I don't really want to keep on changing my batteries when they are still well over half full. I'm keen to know if you still get the problem in the next few days.
One interesting point, I allow my keyboard to wake my mac from sleep. I find that if I sleep my mac, within a minute or so it wakes again and immediately shows the keyboard disconnect pop-up. So what I think is happening is the bluetooth control inside the keyboard is turning off transmit and back on again.
I'm going to ask Apple how to roll-back the update.
Let me know if you start to get disconnected again, I'll do likewise.

  • Bluetooth Wireless Apple Keyboard comes with Energizer batteries? Can't seem to register my new keyboard too.

Bluetooth Wireless Apple Keyboard comes with Energizer batteries? Can't seem to register my new keyboard too.
I bought this new keyboard from the Ala Moana Store and was surprised to open the sealed box with two Energizer AA batteries inside. I didn't know batteries were supplied. The road clear plastic seal over the battery door was also missing. I am a little suspicious that this was a resealed return item.
The next thing I am trying to do is get it registered (like all my other apple items) just in case this turns out to be a lemon, but I can't seem to find a way to add it to my other items. There's no category 'Bluetooth' or 'Keyboard' in the equipment selection list.
So here's my question, did I get a used item that was resealed and put on the shop shelf? Someone else paid for this so it isn't showing up on my list of items. I would like to add it.
    Thanks.
    Mike

    Hello Mik:
You cannot register a KB.  Apple does not keep a database of peripheral devices.
I would question the store about the unwrapped batteries....  I would suspect that the device was returned by someone else.

I'm not sure how old it is, but it is covered for 1 full year as long as it didn't take that 19 story dive.

  • Help with very slow connection if apple tv linked to wireless apple keyboard

My husband and I trying to connect the wireless Apple keyboard to our Apple tv so we can get rid of the pesky and cumbersome Apple tv clicker. However, when we do so, our connection slows to a crawl and we cannot access sites like Netflix et al. We disconnected Bluetooth from our Mac Book Pro as we noticed that the keyboard serves only one master. This did not fix the problem. We are at our wits' end. Your help would be immensely appreciated.
Oh, and also, I had been thinking of installing AirPort Utilty. Is this a good idea and why do I not see it in the AppStore, only on websites of dubious provenance?
    Thousand thanks,
    J and F
Er, and while we're at it, why do we need to choose between my apple address and my husband's when we set up homesharing? This is another clunky thing that simply is opaque.

However, when we do so, our connection slows to a crawl and we cannot access sites like Netflix et al.
Not caused by the keyboard.  It connects via BluTooth, the video services over eithernet.  They have nothing to do with one another.  There is something else going on.  Have you tried connecting ATV via a wired connection instead of WiFi.
why do we need to choose between my apple address and my husband's when we set up homesharing?
Because you can only use one AppleId.  It would be a huge leagal mess if it displayed content from multiple accounts at the same time.  The copyright holders would never allow it.

    Hi Barry,
You seem to have solutions ?

  • Apple TV + wireless Apple Keyboard?

Will an update for the Apple TV be offered that allows me to use my wireless apple keyboard?

While I would have liked the keyboard when entering the wireless passphrase, unless Apple starts putting more apps that need a keyboard (i.e.: Twitter) the probablility of keyboard support seems pretty low.
You can suggest to Apple to add keyboard support and appropriate apps:

You may just want to save yourself any possible issues
by just hooking up a wired keyboard and mouse on first
start up.  Any USB keyboard and mouse should work.
There have been many that have had problems on first boot
    using the Bluetooth devices.

  • 2 batteries stuck in my wireless apple keyboard...any ideas?

2 batteries stuck in my wireless apple keyboard....any ideas?

One of them must have leaked and/or swollen in there — not a good situation. I'm afraid there is no way of getting them out that you haven't probably thought of already, and if there has been any leakage, there won't be any good way to clean it up even if you get the batteries out.
I would try to jolt them loose my tapping the end of the keyboard with the end of the battery compartment open on a firm surface that is softer than the aluminum shell and won't mar it, e.g. a block of 2x4 lumber, and hope for the best.
What type of batteries are they: alkaline (best for this use), lithium, or NiMH?

  • How to fix wireless apple keyboard that ceased pairing with imac at the same time the keyboard on my ipad2 disappeared right after I updated osx vs. 10.8.5 sent out by Apple

I updated to OSX vs. 10.8.5 sent out by Apple on Oct 4,2013. My wireless
Apple keyboard is no longer paired to my imac and at the same time I noted that the keyboard on my ipad2 no longer exists. At first I thought it was an icloud issue but am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.

I downloaded 10.8.5 Supplementary and this time there was a picture of my keyboard with the suggestion that I power it on, which I did many times. Finally re-booted my imac and shut down BlueTooth on my ipad. I now have a keyboard back on the ipad and my wireless keyboard on the imac is working.

    Hey Apple Health,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! There's an article that helps to resolve issues with wireless keyboards. I'd take a look at it, go through the troubleshooting steps, and see if that resolves the issue for you:

  • Can I turn autocorrect on for wireless Apple keyboard?

I just bought a wireless keyboard from the Apple store.  I like it but it doesn't seem to autocorrect the same way as the onboard keyboard.  It works sometimes but it is very inconsistent, any help?  For example, it won't auto when i use a lower case i in a sentence, though longer words seem to be ok.  i can't find any documentation.  Is this a known issue?
    Thanks.

Just got the wireless keyboard today.  Also frustrated by this.  I was planning to create long documents with this thing.  It won't do contractions or a period after double-tapping the space bar either.  VERY frustrated that I was told by a Best Buy employee that this would be the best option.  Has anyone found a fix for this?  I'll try to ask an Apple Genius Bar person about this next week when I am near an Apple store.  If I find out anything, I'll report back.  Till then, I guess I'll just be thankful that I am an English teacher and can usually catch my own mistakes :)

  • Silly question.  should I turn my mouse keyboard off?

... or should I leave it on all the time like I've been doing. after reading misery posts about repairing, etc, I'm hesitant to turn it off because I might encounter some problem.

    Hello Jerry:
There are few silly questions - answers, yes!
I leave both my wireless keyboard and mouse on all the time. If they are Apple, they go into a very low power mode a short time after they are idle.
I have seen nothing that indicates that battery life is significantly extended by turning them off.
