TV Tuner Qosmio F10-125

I have just taken delivery of an F10. Excitedly I connected the jack at the back of the PC to the ordinary Arial and searched for the signal by auto scanning using the media wizard. No signal was detected. I tried using the RF analogue signal from my Sky digi-box that must be a good a signal as one can get. Still nothing. In both cases the co-axial cable was carrying a healthy signal as evidenced by the TV happily playing all the channels on the cable from both sources
Any one know what to do? or is this wonder Qosmio F10 a joke!!

Hi,
I don't have the PC in front of me ... it's my son's and presently several hundred miles away, so I'll have to do this by memory (which at my age isn't too reliable, so I apologise in advance if I mislead anyone.
>> By MCE do you mean media centre?
Yes - acronymn for Media Centre Edition (which takes far too long to type).
>> How does one use the QosmioPlayer tuner? I don't understand F2/setup??? I've tried pressing F1 then F2 but nothing happens.
With the G10 (and I don't know about the F10) you can start up Qosmio player without booting the PC (by pressing the TV button at the back of the keyboard area). Initially (i.e. without setting up the tuner) I got pretty much a blank screen. Pressing F1 brings up a window with a set of options in two rows - one of which is F2 - Setup. After pressing F2 it didn't take much effort to find an option to do an AutoScan which worked very easily and in about 2 or 3 minutes, I think.
Once this ran through I found that valid signals were distributed fairly randomly through the 1-63 possible channels - I can't remember the numbers exactly but BBC1 was at channel53, Channel 4 at 27 and so on.
You can tinker with the settings such that when you select Channel 1 on the main TV player, this actually shows Channel53 (or whatever) so you can configure it for (say) channels 1- 5 to reflect the more obvious setup.
Having got this under control (more or less), I then went back to try Media Centre - configured the TV Tuner to PAL/Secam manually and could then find regular BBC, ITV etc ... again scattered at random channel numbers across the tuner. I've no idea how to rationalise these .. and I think someone else has asked this question on the Forum.
I used a decent rooftop aerial to plug into the Toshiba ... the pictures for ITV1, Channels4 and 5 are perfect, BBC1 and 2 are poor. Not sure why this should be so since they're OK on my regular TV - maybe someone wants us to watch the adverts!
That's about as much as I know, I'm afraid.
>>Still waiting for a phone call after 3 days.
You have my sympathies ...

  • Qosmio F10-125: Picture Enhancement Utility & Media Center 2005

I have an F10-125 and when Toshiba Picture Enhancement Utility is on and Fn F5 is in LCD mode only and you use Media Center 2005 their is a bright mark in all screens in right hand botton of LCD Screen and it is not a dead pixel. I have tried everything and even saw the same model with the same fault in a shop.
But disabling Toshiba Picture Enhancement Utility the mark goes in Media Center but so does the excellent picture quality. is their a conflick between Media Centre 2005 and Toshiba Picture Enhanement Utilty or is their away of getting rid of the bright mark.
    Many Thanks

    Hi David
Can you please be more specific about Toshiba Picture Enhancement Utility is on? In my opinion you can start this utility, make some desired setting and confirm with OK. Close Picture Enhancement Utility and after that start Media Center.
Did you check is this mark present on some other case like playing DVD or something like that?

  • Qosmio F50-125 - How to use TV-FM Tuner in Windows 7

    Hello,
I am using Qosmio F50-125 and I just upgraded to Windows 7.
I just now found out that I have a TV tuner on my notebook and I dont know how to use it.
First I dont have drivers for my TV tuner and tried to download something like TV-tuner driver v.2.3.3.31 from the toshiba website, but there is not a typical setup.exe but just some files inside.
If you could tell me a bit more about how to use my TV option and how to install the proper drivers I would be truly grateful.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi mate,
Friend of me has also Qosmio F50 with TV Tuner and Windows 7 now. As far as I know the posted instructions from the other users are correct.
First you have to extract all files. Then go in device manager and right click on the TV card (I think its marked with yellow exclamation mark). If you right click choose Update Driver and in next windows choose the advanced installation (second point). Now you have to choose the driver directory yourself and navigate to the folder where you have extracted the files. Click on OK, Next, etc. and the driver should be installed properly.
Maybe you to restart the notebook but this shouldnt be a problem! ;)
If you have more questions, please let us know! If you need more assistance I can ask my friend again for further details.

  • Qosmio F10: Cannot setup TV Tuner!

I can't seem to be able to receive any form of TV signal on my Qosmio F10.
I have tried both automatic and manual setup of the TV signal within Windows Media Centre, whilst connected to different aerial points and my satellite receiver, but the software never manages to actually receive any form of signal.
I have checked that each of the cables works correctly by connecting it to a TV, and there is definitely a good signal.
All I can think is there is a problem with my Toshiba TV Tuner hardware (I uninstalled it and rebooted to reinstall the TV Tuner drivers), or possibly the little adapter cable.
    Anyone else had this problem?
    Any ideas??

It would appear that the TV tuner problem I am having is due to a weak signal. Toshiba are working on a fix to improve the TV tuner cards sensitivity, but a lot of the problem seems to be with Media Centre, which is very region specific and doesnt seem very flexible to me.
So I bought a FreeView digital terrestrial TV box (a nice, small Nokia one!) and a SCART-composite adapter. I also bought a WinTV USB2 TV tuner. I have since spent many happy hours testing different setups! Here are my findings (it's been quite a project!)
Analogue Aerial to the TV Card via RF Cable & Dongle:
Qosmio mode - Picks up three of five analogue channels with varying picture quality.
Media Centre - Doesn't find anything! Manual tuning results in no picture and intermittent sound. Unable to use Media Centre without infra-red receiver and remote (which is very annoying!)
Digital Satellite to the TV Card via RF Cable & Dongle:
Qosmio mode - Needs to be told not to skip the channel for some reason, but results a fairly good.
Media Centre - Doesn't detect anything, but able to manually enter the channel number and get reasonable results (as long as the infra-red receiver and remote are set up!)
Digital Satellite to Graphics Card via SCART-Composite Cable & Adapter:
Qosmio mode - Finds nothing (obviously only looking for an aerial connection)
Media Centre - Finds signal automatically. Best results so far for video, but doesn't work with the audio... The sound is sent straight to the sound-card, then processed via Media Centre and sent out again with a slight delay. This results in the sound being constantly repeated, which is rather annoying!!!
FreeView to TV Card via RF Cable & Dongle:
Qosmio mode - Finds FreeView signal fairly easily, plus three analogue channels!
Media Centre - Will only find FreeView channel by entering channel number during manual setup.
FreeView to Graphics Card via SCART-Composite Cable & Adapter:
    Qosmio mode: Finds nothing.
    Media Centre: Also nowt (surprisingly!)
Analogue Aerial to USB Port via WinTV:
    Qosmio mode: Doesn't work!
    Media Centre: Nope!
WinTV2000: Wow! Best picture so far. Also manages all five channels (our TV can't even get Channel 5!)
Digital Satellite to USB via WinTV:
Qosmio and Media Centre are no go.
    WinTV2000: Good results.
    Freeview to USB via WinTV:
Qosmio and Media Centre are still non-runners.
WinTV2000: Very good - FreeView works, plus all five analogue channels are available.
I hope this helps in some way. I'm sure you've already drawn your own conclusions...

I have a G20 and don't know the F10, but if you have video-in, you
can capture and save (and edit too) mpeg files with programs like Intervideo WinDVD Creator.

  • Need Windvd 5 for my Qosmio F10

    Hello,
I have a Qosmio F10..a Japanese one...I live in Turkey and formatted my f10 ..Now it is English but I do not have programs such as Windvd and dvr ...and I cannot watch TV in windows XP...please someone help me ..I need windvr 5 for Toshiba (English)...
    Thanks

    Hello
WinDVD and WinDVD Creator applications are a part of the recovery image and it can not be downloaded or installed separately.
You can also use other applications for watching DVDs like PowerDVD or something similar. I presume that your Windows option is not MCE and in this way you need some other application for watching TV. I am not familiar with TV tuner built in Japanese units but I have heard that Japanese units have TV tuner that can be used in whole world.
If you have solution for this issue please let us know.
    Good luck!

  • Qosmio F10-136 - Unable to install any drivers

    I have a Qosmio F10-136.
I have recently formatted the hard drive. Since I had lost the recovery disc, I had to use another copy of Windows. I downloaded the drivers available online from the Toshiba website but I have been unable to install any drivers except the wireless LAN. Most driver setups refuse to run at all, some seem to install the files, but the driver is not detected.
    Please advise.

    > 1. Sound device not working still - When I install the audio effect driver (i.e. toshiba virtual sound), there does not seem to be any effect even though it is installed. Then, when I install the SoundMax Audio System, it gives me an that the driver does not exist.
What do you mean exactly by does not seem to be any effect. Can you hear the sound coming from the speakers? Are there any yellow exclamation marks related to the sound card? If not then the sound card driver has been installed properly and the sound should work!
    > 2. I cannot figure how to install the LAN driver.
Where is the problem? Download the LAN driver, unzip the package, access the device manager, choose the unknown device (LAN card), point to the driver files downloaded from the Toshiba driver page and finish the installation.
The LAN card should be recognized properly.
    > 3. Same with the TV tuner drivers; there is not setup file.
As mentioned above; you can install the drivers in device manager. Choose TV tuner in device manager (possibly marked as unknown device too.) point to the TV tuner driver files and finish the installation.
    > 4. During the windows setup, I had created 3 drives, but I cannot access the drives D & E. When I try to access them, windows asks me to format them, but it gives me an error when I try to do so. Also, the hard drive is not shown in the disk management (not even C drive), so I cannot do anything. Although, the hard drive is shown in the device manager.
If other partitions have been created on the HDD then this should be visible in disk management. I dont believe that you cannot see even the C partition. In my opinion you didnt check this correctly.
Access the disk management (MY Computer, right click, manage). Choose Disk Management. There you should see the HDD and CD/DVD drive.
If the partitions have been created but not formatted then you would see just a free space.
Click right on this space and you could either format this or could delete the partition.
PS: I recommend using a 3rd party tool like Partitions Magic in order to create the partitions on the HDD (Win XP)!!!

  • Differences between F10-100 and F10-125 screens

    Hi,
    I just got a Qosmio F10-100.
I read somewhere that the screen on the F10-125 is XGA and the screen on the F10-100 is not XGA.
Does anyone know if there are different screens for these two models.
I'm not really sure what XGA means. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks.

    Hi Jeremy
As far as I know both of them have 15.4" (1280x800) TruBrite Wide XGA TFT colour display.
If you want to know what is WXGA google a little bit around or visit this site http://www.gen-x-pc.com/lcd3.htm

  • Qosmio F10-103, Unmountable_ boot_ volume.......what can I do??

    Hi,
    I have a Qosmio F10-103.
One day ago the blue page with
    the writing ''Unmountable_ boot_ volume''
    appeared!
    What can I do?
I red on some forums that it (could) be
a problem of the Hard disk and that
I could repair the cpu using the
windows xp boot cd , copying the files
    boot.ini , NTDETECT.com , NTLDR ...but.....
Toshiba gave me only the DVD-rom backup,
    not xp boot.
Then I tried to use that DVD end I entered
into the Toshiba Recover Utility 1.0.1.0
and I had a disk checking.....the result was:
    ''Application error 29004
Read sector failure, result =1, drive=128, sectors
132479 to 132481 if the problem persists contact toshiba....''
    Here I am!
It's useful to say that all the modes of booting
    windows doesn't work.
Also, the ''look-like dos prompt'' that appears
once exit from the recover utility doesn't permit
to copy the file I need from the DVD.
    What can I do???
Is there something to do before......the formatting
    procedure??
    Thanks a lot!!!!!

    Hi,
it seems that your Qosmio has a corrupted windows. Like you wrote you can copy the missing or corrupted files from another media. It's right, the Toshiba recovery CD/DVD contains only an image and is a OEM version!
But you can copy these files also from another PC or Notebook. Then take a boot diskette and boot the Notebook. Then copy the files in DOS mode and try to reboot. Then it should work again!
    Bye and Good Luck

  • Distorted video-out signal on Qosmio F10

    Hi,
Up until recently my video-out function on my Qosmio F10 worked just fine. When I connected my laptop to the TV the other day, using a s-video cable, the picture had turned quite distorted. The picture on the TV flickers and sometimes disappears totally.
My laptop has the Nvidia GeForce FX Go5700 graphics card and I have changed no settings what so ever from the point in time when the video-out was working properly.
To debug I've bought a new s-video cable and also a scart-adapter. Using these I've eliminated that the TV's s-video in port is the problem. It seems to me as if something is wrong with the signal from the graphics card.
I'd be very grateful for a diagnose on this issue.
    Thanks and regards,
    Johan

    Hi,
I've made sure that I use the latest drivers (although the ones that Toshiba provides are not exactly brand new!). I've also made sure that I use the correct TV-format (PAL-B in my case). Furthermore, I've tried both using the s-video port on the TV directly and also using a scart adapter... The result is still the same...
I'm inclined to believe that there is something wrong with the hardware (e.g. a loose contact in the s-video out port). In that case i guess this might be a warranty issue...
    Rgds,
    Johan

  • Qosmio F10: Monitor screen looks like an Andy Warhol picture

I am currently having problems with my monitor screen looking like an Andy Warhol picture. I have resorted to going through the Product Recovery DVD-ROM for my Qosmio F10/G10 Laptop in the hope that reverting it back to the factory settings would solve the problem but it hasn't.
The screen breaks down after the Windows welcome screen, leaving me with my desktop all Andy Warhol like (i.e. blocks of pixilated colour at the edges of the graphics). I have tried to reset the resolution which solves the problem to an almost acceptable level but on a temporary basis, because the problem re-appears again when I re-boot the laptop.
I think that it is something to do with the Windows Multimedia Operating system that was preinstalled on my computer (so no recovery disc). The reasoning behind this assumption is that I put a DVD film into the Multimedia that is part of Windows XP and the film is a moving Andy Warhol video.
I put the same DVD into the WinDVD that came as a Toshiba additional content and the DVD is perfect! My reasoning is, that if there was something wrong with the hardware of the Laptop, then all DVD reading programs would react the same way, but as they do not, it must be a programming (or operating system problem).
Am I on the right lines? Is there a way to solve the problem via a downloadable file?

Thanks guys for your replies, sorry if my question is confusing, but I couldn't think of any other way of describing it without the use of a screen dump to show you.
At the moment I haven't got another monitor to try, even though this looks as though it would have been the easiest option. I shall start asking round to see if I can borrow one to eliminate that variable.
However I will try to reinstall and to update "Graphic Drivers" to get rid out of this display problem.
    Thanks to all.

  • Qosmio F10 - How to reset the BIOS?

i have Toshiba Qosmio F10, I forget password.
Please help me by reset the BIOS.

You cannot reset BIOS on your own and it must be done by authorized personal only.
BIOS password is very important security feature and you cannot expect that BIOS password deletion procedure will be described in public forum.
Contact nearest Toshiba service and they will do this for you.

  • Qosmio F10-136 display drivers/video controller

I am in the middle of resintalling everything on my Qosmio F10-136 laptop. I have used the display drivers from the Toshiba website. However, in the device manager the video controller is showing an error and the drivers are not installed. The graphics card is a nVidia GeForce FX go5700. Scrolling pages up and down in IE is very slow.
Also when I go to display properties settings-advanced-adapter the graphics card is not shown under adapter type.
Anyone know what the problem is? Do I need to download drivers from somewhere esle?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Hi
The graphic driver released on the Toshiba European driver page is working and can be installed properly.
I think you did something wrong.
Try to reinstall the graphic driver again.
Remove the graphic controller from the device manager list and reboot the notebook.
Then try to reinstall the driver again. I would recommend installing it in device manger.
Choose graphic card, update the driver, then point to the downloaded graphic driver and finish the installation.
    Cheers
