Two questions, does resetting the Mac Book Pro late 2008 speed up after reset? Also, do i need to remove my WLAN router and get only a plain MODEM when setting up my AIR PORT time machine?

Two questions, does resetting my Mac Book Pro late 2008 speed up after resetting? Also, do i need to get rid of my WLAN router to make my AIR PORT time capsule work?
Am grateful for any answers...its a 15,4"...
Will soon buy a new one, is battery better on 13 than 15 "?
Have a great day...

If you mean restoring OS X, that won't necessarily have any effect on speed.
Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow your Mac down.
Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.

No need for the WLAN router with AirPort Time Capsule.

  • 8 gigs in Mac Book Pro late 2008

I have read that the Mac Book Pro late 2008 can now handle 8 gigs of ram, if you have the latest Boom Rom Version (i have the exat on needed). I currently have 4 gigs. My question is, is this some type of HACK, or is 8 gigs really supported by Apple? Can I buy 8 gigs from the Apple Store and have them put it in?
I am really not into HACKS, but 8 gigs would be nice.

    It really is supported.

Yes, but you'll be paying about four times the going rate. It's easy to install RAM yourself. Just be careful not to touch the gold contacts, or if you do, clean them with rubbing alcohol. Also take care not to cross-thread the screws that hold the bottom cover on when you put them back in.

  • Will it damage a mac book pro (late 2008) to install 8GB of ram.

The apple limit is 4GB but people say that the actual limit is 8GB. I want 8GB but im not sure if that will damage other components of the mac.

My daughter reset her Mac book Pro to the factory settings by her doing this did we loose all the pictures and stuff that was on the computer before

If by resetting to factory settings you mean she erased the drive and reinstalled the operating system, OS X, then yes all data thatwas on it is gone. That is why apple included time machine so you can make backups of your data.

  • I had a windows laptop, and I save files like photos, documents, videos and other things on an external hard drive, and now I want to move those files to the Mac book Pro, and then move those files again to another external hard drive 1T. My question is:

I had a windows laptop, and I save files like photos, documents, videos and other things on an external hard drive, and now I want tomove those files to the Mac book Pro, and then move those files again toanother external hard drive 1T. My question is: Is it possible? Doing this willnot affect the files that I had in windows? No information is lost? or how cani do it?

Connect the external drive to your Mac and drag the files from it to your Mac's internal drive. Then dismount and disconnect the external drive, connect the 1TB external drive, and drag the files from the internal drive onto the external. Nothing will have been deleted from any of the drives up to this point; the files will only have been copied. Verify that the files are readable. There's no reason they shouldn't be; this is just a precaution.
Now if you wish to delete the files from any of the drives, drag them to the Trash, and Empty the Trash while the drive from which they came is still connected. If you disconnect the drive before emptying the Trash, the files you were trying to remove from it won't be deleted. They'll remain in the Trash and continue to take up space on the drive.
Note that if your external drives are in NTFS format, you won't be able to write anything to them or delete anything from them, though you will be able to read and copy the files they contain. The NTFS disk format is read-only to the Mac OS, unless you have a third-party NTFS driver installed. To make your drives cross-platform readable and writable, you must reformat them in the FAT32 or ExFAT format.

  • Does the Mac Book Pro With Retna have a disk drive?

Does The Mac Book pro With Retna have a disk drive?

No.  The storage is all SSD.
    Ciao.
If you are referring to an optical drive, that is also NOT included.  You would need to connect one externally.

  • Does the Mac Book Pro 17" (early 2011) come with a restart CD?

Does the Mac Book Pro 17" Osx lion (early 2011) come with a start up CD. Trying to install Windows 7 and it ask to install the CD that came with the Mac Book Pro, but my box did not come with a CD?
    Thank you in advance.

Actually the Late 2011's came with the horrible OS X Lion 10.7 and a ability to install OS X on a blank drive by holding the command option and r keys down on a wired Ethernet/Internet connection. (Internet Recovery)
The command r held at boot is for Recovery HD, which is on a partition on the boot drive, which yours is obviously blank.
Once you get Lion on it, and get to AppStore, you can upgrade to worst OS X Mountian Lion 10.8 from there or redownload it by loggin in with your AppleID.
There is a way to shoehorn OS X 10.6 onto that machine (fastest and runs older PPC software) if your interested.

  • HT3964 Finally got to the reset SMC step and this worked. Powered the Mac Book Pro A1150 on the following morning and again grey screen and this time the SMC reset refuses to work!

After following the Apple knowledge base support notes on resetting the SMC I finally got to the reset SMC step and this worked. Powered the Mac Book Pro A1150 back up on the following morning and again grey screen and this time the SMC reset refuses to work!
The battery still as before indicates not charging and no lights on the battery pack confirm this along with the system profiler which suggests the battery should be replaced. The charger itself actually works ok.
Any further advice would be useful.

    Replace the battery.

  • I factory reset my Mac Book Pro and when entering the Upgrade SN of LR5 it says it's Invalid. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I factory reset my Mac Book Pro and when entering the Upgrade SN of LR5 it says it's Invalid. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It will be necessary for you to install Lightroom from an upgrade installer. An upgrade requires the original serial number from the version that you first purchased, as well as the serial number for the upgrade. The upgrade serial number, by itself, will not work.

  • Yosemite downloaded and installed than Black screen.  all we have is a black screen. Traveling in Indonesia so no Apple store nearby. The screen does not respond to reboot in safe mode. Can anyone help to get the Mac Book Pro up and running again?

We are in indonesia travelling and after downloading and installing Yosemite, on our next restart the screen went black and responds to nothing. Tried to reboot (shift key) in safe mode after first crashing the system but nothing responds except for the opening chime. Toal disaster so any help will be greatly appreciated. Judging by the comments I have read, Yosemite seems to have many issues for us to look forward to, if and when we can bring back the Mac Book Pro to life.

See if you can boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down).  There you can reinstall the system.

  • Trivia question: internal production name for the Mac Book Pro

    Hi,
I know Apple has internal production names for their products. So the Mac Book Pro has an internal name other than the Mac Book Pro.
i was curious, for trivial purposes, what is Apple's internal production name they use for the MacBook Pro?

Yes, the few people who worked on the project are just dying to post it here so that they can lose their jobs. I can't believe no one has replied yet!
Seriously, no one knew they were ven announcing a new name for the PowerBook outside of the Apple Campus until Steve announced it. Why would anyone know the unannounced codename?
