Type in file location in Finder or file selector windows
Is there any way I can get a text field, preferrably with filename completion, where I can simply type in the location of a file or folder? In the Finder or file selector dialog, that is?
Yeah, a directory GUI is nice, but in some cases it is actually faster to write the name than to track down and click through a chain of folder icons. I mean, while still using the GUI - not doing everything in the shell. And just being able to see the path to the directory you're looking at may be useful, too...
Whoops. Somehow I forgot about Go->Go To Folder, and overlooked it when trying to find it, when I wanted to do this for the first time in a while. How embarassing...
This interface is of course also available in the file selector via the normal shortcut (ShiftOptionG)
Even "more direct" access to folder location would sometimes be nice, though...

''Would it make a difference if I would delete firefox altogether and try fresh?''
It could not be ruled out it may help.
A clean reinstall may solve the issue and so could be tried but not as a first step and take care with what you do.
#First I suggest you '''back up your current profile'''. <br />Do this before trying even a new profile. You want to make sure you do not lose data such as bookmarks passwords or settings, or if you do that you may recover them. Put the backup folders and files somewhere safe outside Firefox profile or program paths. (Your Desktop will do)

File adapter cannot find MFL file
I have installed BEA's file adapter and created a WLI
application view. I have also set up an MFL file for
translating a CSV file into an XML file. However, when
I go to test the service I get the following error.
I'm having a hard time finding any documentation that
will tell me where to place the flatFileFinancials.mfl
so the adapter can perform the transformation.

Unable to locate document: wlxt://mfl/flatFileFinancials
Thank you for any help you can provide.I did end up finding one way to make it work. I ended up using the Format Builder
tool that resides in windows under BEA Weblogic Platform 7.0 => Weblogic Integration
7.0 => Format Builder. From here I went to the Repository menu and pressed ‘Log
In’. Then from the Repository menu I pressed ‘Store As’. Now, here is the key
point. Next I created an ‘mfl’ folder under the root of the repository. Then
I stored my flatFileFinancials in that folder.
This approach works fine. Althought I would still like to see some documentation
to help me configure the adapter to look for the file in some other location.

Default file location render settings and output module - Windows 7?
Hi all,
Confession: I am generally confused about render settings and output modules, so forgive me if this question seems stupid.
Problem 1: Where does AE store the default render settings and output module files (I'm on Windows 7)? I want to backup a copy of these in case I mess them up, but can't find the folder. I think they are .aom and .ars files, but I just upgraded my CC 2014, lost all my custom settings, and want to save the defaults before I try loading my various customized files to see if I can get my settings back. When I search for *.aom or *.ars, I can't find any "default" settings from later than 2013 (I would think there would be a newer one somewhere.
Thanks in advance,
LoriThey're in the same folder as the general preferences file and the keyboard shortcuts file. You can open that folder by clicking the button at the bottom of the Preferences dialog box.
But there is no need to back up the defaults. If you delete the render settings or output module settings file, After Effects will just recreate the defaults. -
Can't find domain file, Can't find domain file
I am running OS 10.6.8 with iWeb 3.0.4 (601)
I've been using iweb and backing up my domain file (library - application support...etc) without a problem but I can't seem to find that file anymore.
My website is there working and uploading no problem, but I've been searching and searching and can't find the domain file.
I do use time machine for backups, I do manual back up to time capsule as a "better safe than sorry" attitude, I am not sure if the time machine hidden my file somewhere different... ?
Does anyone have an idea where did my file go? Or can someone tell me how do I restore my file using time machine?
I don't want to erase my drive and upgrade my OS to Lion before I am sure I can restore my iweb. I would hate to lose my website
Thanks!Download and use Find Any File to search for the domain file. It can search areas that Spotlight, even packages and invisible folders.

How do I change default file location for NON-MUSIC files?
My Laptop's "My Document" folder is on network per the corporate configuration. When I am not on VPN, I can not start iTunes since it looks for files on network.
Also my "My Documents\My Music\iTunes" folder on the network is growing quite large since all *.ipa files are stored there.
Is there any way to point all file locations to my C drive?
ThxApp store files will get put in a subfolder named \Mobile Applications.
The preference files will stay on the C: drive under your user profile.

How to find database files location (from system flat files)
Hi all,
Is there anyone who could help me to understand the Oracle database starting mechanism. I'm looking the doc for a few days, but it lacks some details...
I'm currently using Oracle 10g on RedHat, and my database has been created using DBCA. While the installation process, DBCA allows to use a customized location for "*all the database files*". I've chosen */data*.
Now, when I'm looking in my /etc/oratab file, I can see: mydb:$ORACLE_HOME:N
I guess the startup process of Oracle reads /etc/oratab (or I didn't understand its utility...) and then goes to $ORACLE_HOME to find the database infos. In this directory, I can see a directory named hostname_mydb/ and dbs/
The dbs/ directory contains my pfile (initmydb.ora) which contains some parameters such as control files, but nothing about the parent directory of my database files, ie:
control_files= /data/oradata/mydb/control01.ctl,....*
but no DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST as I could expect if the db was created through OMF.
The hostname_mydb/ contains nothing but a sysman directory.
I wonder how Oracle process knows where are the .dbf files or the "parent directory of database files" ? Does anyone have a clue?
I know it is possible to ask through sqlplus for .dbf location but I don't think it's the way used for the startup process (or at least, I hope there is another way)
Thanks! (and sorry if the question seems obvious or stupid...)907899 wrote:
Thank you very much CPKT for all these details. It helps me to see clearer!
You are right, I have configure an Oracle Enterprise Manager and I didn't notice this directory was related to it...
And as I first thought, many data are in the binary control file. I just thought Oracle was a more simple system :)
You mention an Architecture Guide for DBA, is it the Database Concepts manual mentioned in the first reply or is it another manual (I can't find it, but obviously I have to improve my searching technique...)

Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
Go to tahiti.oracle.com.
Drill down to your product and version.
<b><i><u>BOOKMARK THAT LOCATION</u></i></b>
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are <b><i><u>reference</b></i></u> manuals. Just get familiar with <b><i><u>what</b></i></u> is there to <b><i><u>be</b></i></u> referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
- Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
- Take a look in your alert log. One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them (listed in your alert log) in the Reference Manual.
- Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
- When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.

locate 9.txt
gives me 9.txt & 99.txt; how can I find the specific file?locate 9.txt | grep '^9.txt$'
except locate is going to give you path information so may
locate 9.txt | grep '/9.txt$'
Or you could try the 'find' command:
find $HOME -iname '9.txt'

My Mac Mini takes forever to load programs now. After loading Mavericks it seems like I am back in PC World again!! My biggest concern is ALL of my iMovie projects seem to have vanished. I do not have sound on some web sites like YouTube. I lost the option to mirror from the Mac to the TV but I was able to solve that. Any suggestions on recovery of files? My files are still on my computer, but, everything that wasn't also on my phone is showing up with the "!" icon. When I click on one of the error icons, it prompts me to locate the file. I do, then it asks if I want to use that location to find other files and I click OK. BUT, it can't find any other songs, even when the same folder has 20 more songs in it (and the rest of my files are in folders on the same level as the one I selected.)
I have a lot of music and very little was on my phone, so I really don't want to manually locate 4000 files.
I checked the preferences and the library location is set correctly. Any ideas on how to help this new version of itunes locate ALL my files. It will take me a month otherwise....-> http://sonicchicken.net/blog/wordpress/20060122/itunes-grouping/

Can I copy certain aperture library files from the finder?
Hello,
I have an older library, that I updated to the current Aperture, and recently froze from bad media. I think it was a bunch of videos in one of the events. Anyways, I want to copy some of the photos from a event in the old library to a new working library. Can I do this from finder? I tried exporting and it froze, leaving the photo export in some limbo state...Do you also have iPhoto 9.5.1? If you open your Aperture library in iPhoto you can use "File > Reveal in FInder > Original File" to show you the original image file inside the library. Then you can copy it easily to a new location.
If you do not have iPhoto, you can reveal the original photos by ctrl-clicking the Aperture library and using the command "Show Package Contents". Your images are in the Masters folder, organized by the year, month, day of importing them.
But be careful, when browsing these folders. Only copy, don't move.
