U-Verse VOIP into house wiring: "Line-in-Use"

All,       ATT converted our DSL to U-Verse high-speed Internet + VOIP 5 months ago. This included VOIP connection to original phone-wiring in the house (built in 1989), supporting 3 extensions.  All worked fine until last week, when all extensions show "Line-in-Use" and are inoperable. VOIP constantly trying to "Connect" == flashing green light on Modem/VOIP.  Disconnecting all phones has no effect.  Disconnecting line from Modem/VOIP to house wiring immediately enables VOIP connection.  Plugging phone directly into Modem/VOIP provides excellent phone service.       Obvious conclusion is that there is now a problem with house wiring.  Odd since the wires haven't been touched in months, and we have had no rain.  Any suggestions on where to start looking at the house wiring?Appreciate any advice.-Joe in San Diego

A couple of examples of house wiring problems out of the blue -
The wireis behind kitchen cabinets. Every time the spoon drawer is closed it beats up the wire til it breaks or shorts.
The wire gets crimped in the jack mounting plate & eventually shorts out.
Obviously, it is difficult to troubleshoot hidde wires. First determine if you are daisy chained from jack to jack or star connected to a bunching block.
The daisy chain - work out from the RG to open the next segment til you bracket the segment.
The star - check the feed leg. Remove all legs & add them back one at atime til it fails.
Note that the tel connection is on thetwo center prongs of the RJ-11 jack. IT is standard to connect these to the red/green wires. With one phone the yellow/black are not used. If you find a problem with the red-green that you cannot fix because you cannot get to it, you could use the yellow -black for that segment.
When you had DSL the tel house wiring was fed from outside. When you switched to u-verse feed on the RG the connecton to the outside should have been opened up. If it was not it may  still have worked. But, now the short is outside. Make sure you are not still connected to the outside.

  • Do I need a service call to disconnect the ONT from my house wiring after going from FIOS to VoIP?

    I recently converted from FIOS to cable phone service (VoIP) (my FIOS contract was up and the cable compan offered me a better deal over the next two years -- no complaints about FIOS itself). Since I converted, I've been having all kinds of problems with the phone service, and all of the problems exist only when I use the house wiring -- when I connect a phone right to the cable modem, it works perfectly. I disconnected the ONT's battery backup unit and unplugged it, but that caused me to lose the dial tone after a few seconds -- I got nothing, and then a fast busy (again, this happened only when I was connected to the house wiring -- it didn't happen when I used a phone that was connected directly to the cable modem). Putting the battery back into the ONT's battery backup and plugging it back in corrected that issue. Additionally, I don't get a triple beep when I pick up the phone if there's a voice mail, nor does the phone's display screen indicate that there is a message waiting. In short, it appears that the house wiring is still connected to Verizon's system. The cable company says the house wiring isn't connected to the old (analog) Verizon box outside the house, but it says it can't touch the ONT. Do I have to have Verizon come over to disconnect the house wiring from the ONT, or can I do it myself? If Verizon comes to do it, will I get charged? Thanks. David Ross {edited for privacy}

    The ONT should have a place for customer connections. Either a RJ-11 plug that can be unpluged or wires on red and green terminals that can be disconnected and isolated with tape or wire nuts. Sorry to see you go, I have been happy and will never go back. Well never is a long time.

  • Internet share without a wired line

    I want to share my internet for my phone,and the Air doesn't have a wired line .there
    is no solution to my question in the internet.

    1. Open System Preferences
    2. Go to 'Sharing'
    3. Click on 'Internet Sharing' (leave the box unchecked for now).
    4. From 'Share your connection from' choose 'Built-in Ethernet'
    5. From 'To computers using' check the 'Airport' box
    6. Open 'AirPort Options' (bottom right), name the network. (Once it all works, go back and assign a password).
    7. Now, check 'Internet Sharing' box and turn on AirPort. The AirPort sign on the iMac menu should turn into an arrow.

  • Moved house, existing line with another provider.....

    Hi
    So my situation is as follows:
    1) Moved into a new house with an active phone line that is apparently with TalkTalk according to 150 or 151, whichever it is. At least when you dial 150 or 151 it says welcome to TalkTalk.
    2) Old house had a BT line and I want to transfer the account. Phoned BT and was told an engineer will have to visit.
    Now given that the current line in my new house is still active with TalkTalk, what will the engineer do when they visit? I don't want a new line installed, I simply want the TalkTalk line switched into a BT line. But I suspect that because the existing line is not in my name the engineer won't be able to "convert it".
    Thoughts?

    Thanks for the replies.
    A bit more information:
    Found out that when you call the TalkTalk line it goes to someone else's house so I can make calls but not receive them. Phoned TalkTalk and they said it was likely the line just wasn't disconnected properly when the last tenants moved out. Apparently they no longer see a valid TalkTalk line at the address.
    So as far as I can tell when the engineer visits they should be able to correct the confusion and just "convert" our current line into a BT line. I'm just worried there could still be a problem, like the engineer not being willing to make the change if they think the line is with another provider.
    Any more thoughts?

  • Javascript to pull a PDF field into the Subject line of email?

    I've created a fillable PDF form using Pro X.  I'd like to program the Submit button so that once in the email portion, the subject line would automatically pull 3 specific fields from the PDF file.
    Example:  After hitting "Submit"....once in the email, I'd like the Date, Vendor Name, and PO # from the PDF form to automatically pull into the Subject line.
    I have to PDF the complete document and go through the Desktop Email Application on my PC.
    Thank you!

    Hello Everyone,
    I am having the same issue as tlg814 with needing three fields to pull into the subject, and I followed the blue print of the code as well, but I am only getting one field to populate in the subject line.  I am using Acrobat XI. Here is my code:
    Mouse up> Run a JavaScript
    var parts = getField("SR#", "Urgency", "Ship To").value
    this.mailDoc({
    cTo: "[email protected]",
    cCc: "[email protected]",
    cSubject: parts,
    cMsg: "Please create a Parts Request for the items in this email. Thanks"
    Any thoughts as to why it is not pulling all three fields?
    Thanks

    A have new problem that has appeared in my Mac Mail.  When I type a frequently used email into the 'To: line' it populates the correct name but with 8 different email addresses not associated with that name.  I have gone to the window pop-down to 'previous recipients' and deleted that addressee as well as all the email addresses it is assigning to that name.  I have also deleted the account entirely from my address book.  I have have run repair permissions and also full defrag in iDefrag.  Still the problem persists.  Any suggestions?

    Hello CarolineLongEaton,
    I noticed you posted this problem quite a while ago and wondered if you managed to have it fixed in an alternative way then posting here. It is too bad no one has posted a solution here. I have a similar problem and if you have had yours solved since this occurance how you accomplished it may help me with mine. I am interested to know what you have done about yours.
    If you are interested in comparing the problems to see if your solution (if you have found one) might help me also then here is the link to the discussion.

    Welcome to the Forums.
    You have to just right click on the clip imported, in the project panel and select new sequence from clip. You can also go to file menu>new>sequence and create a sequence and then drag the clips after importing them , into the timeline.

  • How to put a comment(remark) into a certain line in ACL on L3 switch

    hello all,
    am I correct that for comments in access lists on L3 switches it is provided only so limited functionality, that it is possible only to put a remark at the end of existing rules list and no way to put a comment into a defined line, but only reapply the whole access list?!
    (config-ext-nacl)#remark ?
      LINE  Comment up to 100 characters
      <cr>
    Maybe other commands exist or special applications that can help with such important matter ?

    You're correct. Remark entries will be added in the order that you enter them, but can't be inserted with a sequence number. Any time I've needed to make changes to ACL remarks, the ACL has had to be deleted and re-created with the new entries.

  • Spa3102 would not forward a voip call to pstn line

    Good morning.
    I've done the implementation provided here http://community.linksys.com/t5/VoIP-Adapters/SPA-3102-and-softphone-to-
    make-calls-via-pstn-line/td-p/326390 .
    It is a way to use for outgoing calls a given pstn line from anywhere I have internet (voip to pstn).
    The spa3102 is connected to a router (with an active DHCP server and ip 192.168.1.1) from where it takes the internal
    ip (192.168.1.3).On the same network is also a computer , connected to the router ( with ip 192.168.1.2). The spa3102
    is set to bridge mode and thus inactivates the function of the router (on SPA3102), and it functions as a  simple
    network device . I have  done port forwarding (from the router) to 192.168.1.3 (SPA3102) for the port 5061 (PSTN
    LINE) ( but for 5060 for the LINE 1 also). I want to make calls from a voip softphone (x-lite 4) to the SPA 3102 and
    this to forward the voip calls to PSTN line to which it is connected. In x-lite the SPA3102 is set as a proxy so that
    i can type the phone number I want to call without being followed by the SPA3102's ip each time ( eg on  x-lite I
    give call number 2101111111 instead of 2101111111 @ wanip: 5061 where wanip is the external ip of the router).
    When x-lite is running on the computer that is on the same network with the SPA3102 everything works as expected. A
    voip call is made from x-lite ( using as a proxy the wanip everytime, or even for test purposes the dyndns domain
    that i set up for this reason), this call is passese PSTN line and the phone of the called party rings . At x-lite
    COMES indication "call established ".
    The problem occurs when I do the same procedure from x-lite installed on a computer belonging to another network (
    e.g. in another building with its own internet connection , own router, own computer , etc. ) . Always using the
    wanip the x-lite makes the voip call to the SPA3102, writes "call established" ( meaning it connected to SPA3102) but
    never routed the call to the called party ( the SPA3102 did not forward voip calls it receives to the PSTN line ) .
    Trying to find what 's wrong I've tried to disable all firewalls (soft and hard from all involved machines ) . The
    behavior is the same either the computer that makes the successful calls is connected to the network directly to the
    router  or through the port "ethernet" on the SPA3102.
    What is the difference in these two voip calls to the SPA3102 and the one  " triggers "  it to forward the call to
    PSTN line and the other does not ?
    Thanks now for any ideas you give .

    The audio sound problem is more than likely also associated with the overall addressing problem initially encountered.  As you may know, using the sip protocol the sip signalling exchanges ip addresses to be used for both the sip signalling and the exchange of rtp sound packets.  In addition there is an exchange of port numbers to be used for the exchange of rtp sound packets.  The sound is exchanged by two separate streams of packets, one stream in each direction.  The result is an ip address and port number for the rtp packets flowing from the SPA3102 to the softphone and a different ip address and port number for the rtp packets flowing from the softphone to the SPA3102.
    In your previous posting you mentioned that you "set the minimum  EXTernal rtp port at the sip tab".  Changing the "EXT RTP Port Min:" is an unusual change to make and in my opinion would only be made in special circumstances. Actually, I ran some tests and I'm not sure exactly what that setting does.  In my tests it didn't appear to affect the rtp port number used in a predictable manner.
    The common changes to make for audio problems typically would be to setup a STUN server.  A STUN server is an external server that echos back to the initial sender the external ip address and port number that the STUN server received with the message received by the server.  This allows the sender (SPA3102 or softphone) to determine its external ip address and external port numbers for both the sip signalling and rtp packets.
    A STUN server is commonly recommended to be setup with the following settings in the SPA3102:
    PSTN Line Tab:
    NAT Mapping Enable: Yes
    Sip Tab:
    Handle VIA received: yes
    Handle VIA rport: yes
    Insert VIA received: yes
    Insert VIA rport: yes
    Substitute VIA Addr: yes
    Send Resp To Src Port: yes
    STUN Enable: yes
    STUN Server:
    The following web page has a list of "Public STUN Servers"
    http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/STUN
    You are using CounterPath's XLite softphone.  stun.counterpath.net  is a STUN server on the list.
    I see XLite also has a setting to use a STUN server on the "Topology" tab.

    Correct. That's the way to set up the AirPort Express. After connecting your AirPort Express to the router, open AirPort Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps

  • How to add form values into a single line...

    How can we add numerous form values (say surname, first name and middle initial) into a single line? thanks in advance^^

    You can use the "+" operator which is both the addition (number) and concatenation (string) operator. JavaScript makes the decision about how this operator will work by the type of the value of being processed. Two numbers JavaScript performs addition, character string and number, number and character string, or 2 character strings then concatenation.
    If you just use the '+' operator and spaces, you will get extra spaces unless you add code to allow for null fields and adjusting the spacing or other punctuation as needed. You may also need to force numeric values to character stings or you might end up with an addition and not concatenation.
    Adobe provided a example of a funciton to properly join 3 fields with full versions of Acrobat:
    function fillin(s1, s2, s3, sep) {
      // Concatenate 3 strings with separators where needed
      // convert passed strings to a string value
      s1 = s1.toString();
      s2 = s2.toString();
      s3 = s3.toString();
      // assign a numeric value for presence of a given string(s)
      var test = 0; // no passed strings
      if (s1 != "") test += 1; // s1 has a value
      if (s2 != "") test += 2; // s2 has a value
      if (s3 != "") test += 4; // s3 has a value
      // return appropriate combination based on passed strings
      if (test == 0) return ""; // no stings passed
      if (test == 1) return s1; // s1 only
      if (test == 2) return s2; // s2 only
      if (test == 3) return s1 + sep + s2; // s1 and s2
      if (test == 4) return s3; // s3 only
      if (test == 5) return s1 + sep + s3; // s1 and s3
      if (test == 6) return s2 + sep + s3; // s2 and s3
      if (test == 7) return s1 + sep + s2 + sep + s3; // s1, s2, and s3
