U400 - dont have rights to dvd burner?

I just got a new u400 today. The first thing I did was try to make a recovery disk. The first disk burned, then when I tried the second disk I got a message saying that there was no dvd burner or I dont have rights to the dvd burner. All subsequent attempts to burn the disk showed the same message. Anybody got any ideas? Thx.

  • I dont have a CD/DVD sharing option

I have a Macbook Air which operates on Lion, and only recently brought a new epson printer which needs a CD for installation. But my air does not have an optical drive, so I have to use my old laptop (windows).
After researching I downloaded remote disk from apple which would not work because 'I already have an updated version'
As I looked for that it became evident that I do not have a sharing oprtion for an optical drive in my preferences,
is there either another way I can share optical drives, or a way to find this option?

The Air wouldn;t have this option because it does not have a DVD drive. That option is on the machine sharing its drive
Normally of course the other Mac with the drive would have this option and you would turn it on there and then the Air would see the drive and use it.
How you can accomplish this when the system with the DVD drive is a windows box I can't say. But you should be looking at the windows box to see how you can set it to share its drive.

  • My brain ****...I have external Plextor DVD Burner hooked up

how do I use the Plextor to burn instead of the internal drive that I don't trust? I see no way to select it from the BURN folder.
    Thanks, --bill

Don't create the burn folder yourself. In "CDs & DVDs" system preference, set it to "Open Finder" for blank discs. When you insert a bank in the Plextor, it will create a burn folder. Drag your files to that folder, then click "Burn". It should use the Plextor.

  • I have an external dvd burner, is it compatible to install Tiger dvds from?

My dvd recorder is an external one and I have recorded dvd's from imovie using it but would it be compatible to install system software from?

I actually just read an article in the magazine MacLife which tells you how to boot from an external USB drive in the event that your drive is not firewire. Apparently Apple added USB boot support shortly after the AGP graphics G4 and the G3 slot-loading iMac came out around 1999--so the support is there, it's just that individual types of drives may hide it from you.
For the workaround for cloning to and booting from a USB drive go to

  • Upgraded itunes and quicktime, now it won't open b/c dont have right OS

I recently upgraded my itunes. After the upgrade was successful, i tried to open it and it said i had to download quicktime 7.5 or more for this version of itunes to work. so i downloaded quicktime. then when i clicked on the itunes icon, it said my operating system (10.4.11) can't open it. Now i can't use Itunes at all. I would like to use the newest version, but would like to get back to the old one i had so at least i can use it. What should I do? do i need to uninstall it? how do i do that? in the long run, is there a way to upgrade my operating system so that I can use the latest versions of these things?

Did you download the proper version of Quicktime for your OS (Tiger)?
If not, get it here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Be sure to select the version for Tiger.

  • DVD Burning Poor quality

I created a slide show in IPhoto including the "Ken Burns" effect. I also added four audio tracks to the slide show. I transferred the file to I DVD with sharing. Two audio tracks were dropped in the transfer and the resulting image quality was poor. Images were wavy and some had skips and tiling. Also the audio tracks that remained sounded like the artist was gargling the words. I'm a recent Apple convert and my I book is only 2 mo. old. Do I have a malfunctioning DVD burner or am I doing something wrong?

I am running Osx 10.3.9 and have idvd4. Unfortunatly i have an external dvd burner and idvd4 will not burn to this. Will idvd6 work on my system as Ive heard this works with an external burner.

    Hi chadredford:
Yes-iMovie 6 would allow you to natively export to an external burner. Would your system work? Better read these to help make up your mind:

  • Help, DVD burning error

hello, I have been getting DVD burning error messages for the last two days. I have been getting the message "disk burning failed because an unexpected error occurred. there was also a message about not enough laser power to calibrate. I have tried slower speeds, a different brand of DVDs and a DVD Lens cleaner and still no luck. It started on christmas eve with Tiger and it's been doing it for the last two days on Leopard with the same system.

I created the same Topic, you can try looking for it. I just went and got my superdrive replaced, seemed to work ok.

  • Pc dvd burner on a mac?

can u buy a normal pc dvd burner and stick it in a powermac g4? please reply to this if u kno coz we need to kno soonish

    Yes and No.
For maximum compatibility with OS X and the iApps (burning from the Finder and iDVD etc) it's best to stick with certain makes and models that are fully supported. These tend to be the ones that Apple themselves use as SuperDrives.
If you have a certain DVD burner in mind you could always check out the drive compatibility database at http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ to see whether there are any reports on it. Alternatively there are a number of other threads on this same topic in this section of the forums.
The Pioneer DVR-10x seems a popular choice (109, 110 etc). OS X 10.4 seems to support a wider range of drives than 10.3, certainly newer drives that have only recently appeared on the market. However, PatchBurn can be used to add support for some http://www.patchburn.de/
    I hope this helps.

  • Adobe X & IE9  "You don't have rights to save in this location"

Installed adobe X on windows 7 32 bit with all windows and adobe updates.  Trying to print from IE9 using adobe as my printer.  This prints fine from local applications like Excel, Word, Quickbooks.  I created a new folder with full control C:\Temp and when trying to print there from IE9 I get the message "you dont' have rights to saave in this location".  I am logged in as an admistrator.  I changed all users on the PC to full control and even C:\ on the security tab.  This will print to the "Users\" folder only.  Spent hours trying suggestions from discussion sites.  Help!!
    Thanks,

Thanks for your reply.  Security level set to Medium by default.  When I uncheck the "Enable Protected Mode"  it works. I can save files to folders on my computer.   I tried this before.   If I unable protected mode I compromise my security and it is easier for malicious software being installed to my computer.  Any suggestions?

  • Firewire DVD burner - works in OS 9 to Leopard, not in SL

    Hello!
A while ago, I figured that it would be nice ot have an external DVD burner - as one that I wouldn't disturb via vibrations when using my MBP, and could use with my old Macs without a burner.
This burner is an NEC DVD+/-RW DL burner, as listed below. I pulled it from an old windows computer that died, and placed it into an older LaCie FW 400 enclosure. Under the older OSs - Tiger, Leopard, even OS 9 in CD-burn mode - it worked just fine, and could burn all supported formats without difficulty. In snow leopard on my 2.2 Ghz MacBook Pro (Late 2007), not only will it not function as a burner, but OS X itself does not recognize the drive. That is, System profiler detects the LaCie enclosure, but as far as SL is concerned, the enclosure has nothing in it. SL doesn't see the DVD burner, and neither does Toast. I tried placing a commercial DVD-ROM in there, but OS X wouldn't read the disc either.
Do you know how I can fix this? Or, is there really nothing I can do except use it with the older Macs? It worked fine with this same MBP before the update to SL for what it's worth...
    Thanks,
    -Dan
Stats of the drive, as reported by System Profiler on my G4 running Tiger.
    _NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A:
    Firmware Revision: 2.19
    Interconnect: FireWire
    Burn Support: Yes (Vendor Supported)
    Profile Path: VendorSupport.drprofile
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
    Media: No

Interesting! I'll have to try that.
I finally got chance to mess around with the drive and such, although I haven't tired this. I actually discovered one fix, described here:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090922213608468
It works perfectly, although I don't much like having to use an old version of the extension. Still, everything seems to work well, so that takes care of the problem.
Of course, next time Apple updates the OS, that may change...
Chen: I'll have to give this a try at some point, although it's quite odd that SL would recognize a drive if booted with a disc in it, but not otherwise. Go figure!
    Thanks for the help everyone

  • Selecting a dvd burner

I have an external DVD burner and of course the internal one. I am trying to burn a data DVD using the "Burn Folder". When I say to burn, it says to put in a blank disc, even though I have one in my external burner. How can I choose which one because it is obviously not recognizing my burner, even though when I insert a disc it asks me what I want to do.
    thanks

    Hi, P.
Unfortunately, I don't have an external burner with which to test this, but here's an idea for you:
Before creating the burn folder, first insert a disc in the external drive. When it prompts you for what to do, select "Open in Finder." This should show the blank disc in the Finder sidebar. This, however, is in fact a burn folder, which can be seen by examining its Get Info window and noting that the file's extension is .fpbf, indicating a burn folder. Open the blank disc / burn folder, drag files to it, then click Burn. Perhaps doing things in this sequence will associate the blank disc and burn folder correctly with the external drive for when you click Burn.
    Good luck!

  • Dual-Boot.. But Can The Old DVD Burner Work With Nero 9?

    hi,
i have an imac(intel), so i added windows vista to my imac.
i have an old dvd burner that only works under windows.
my question is that the "disc drivers" are from OS X v10.5.8 "bootcamp". will the driver support my old dvd burner run under nero 9 reload?
    thanks in advance.
    ed

Typically, Windows has its own methods of installing the needed drivers. The drivers that the Boot Camp utility installs are to allow Windows to use the Mac hardware, such as the display, iSight camera, microphone, keyboard/mouse, etc., NOT for any third-party hardware. When it is booted up with Windows, the Mac is a Windows machine, so you need to do whatever you did before to get the DVD burner to work under Windows. That may have been installing software from a disc that came with the burner; it may have been downloading a driver installer .exe file...
Since you have the Mac, the Windows Vista installation, and the burner, is there a reason you can't give it a try?
