UCM placeholders/sites in WebCenter

I'm wondering if/how Site Studio sites can be utilized in WebCenter.
There are few wonderful functions that can be gained from Site Studio:
- data files, ie. ability to assign a query on the document repository
- secondary page, ie. ability to display the content of the document formatted by the pre-selected style (DynamicConvertor)
- contributor's mode, ie ability to make on-site modifications using WYSIWYG online editor or native desktop applications - this is also linked to a) show differences and b) approval workflows
- plus one can use Desktop Integration Suite and Folders to integrate easily Office environment with content repository/site
To my understanding WebCenter provides similar functions (Data Controls, Content Presenter; UCM's contributor's mode has one important advantage - the CheckOutAndOpen component allows one-click opening the document, which I was told is not on WebCenter's roadmap).
However, if I have a site written in the new UCM 11g SSXA (JSPs), will I be able to move it easily to WebCenter environment? Will I be able to reuse fragments/regions/placeholders defined in my site in other WebCenter pages? Could some point me/write a "cookbook" how this can be obtained?
Thanks.

If you are using the new version of WebCenter (11g PS3) you will be glad to hear that you can easily use site studio fragments in a webcenter portal application.
From this patch set, the content presenter has gained a lot in functionality. You can easily select the fragment you want from site studio and use this in webcenter. You even have the possibility to inline edit the content in webcenter when using site studio fragements.

  • Webcenter Sites Vs Webcenter Portal+Webcenter Content

    Hi everyone,
A question for all those multifaceted webcenter experts out there!
What is it that, Webcenter Sites does & Webcenter Portal + Webcenter Content couldn't do?
If both can be equivalent solutions, then why acquisition of FatWire?
    Thanks in advance!
    ~S

I wouldn't say it is a question of what, but how - some people find Sites more appealing than Portal, or Content's WCM (Site Studio). It's worth to add that Portal has most likely richer features than Sites, but if you want to build B2C internet, Sites seems (and are told) to be a better choice.
To your question about the acquisition, other reasons could be:
    - ATG; Oracle had acquired ATG some months before Fatwire, which was the front-end technology for many ATG customers
    - customer base
    - etc.

First of all, I think you are in a wrong forum. This seems to be WebCenter Content
The list of components is available here: About Site Studio for External Applications - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1)
However, the error you get states something about indexes. You may have to re-run the Indexer after new components are enabled and the server restarted. See Managing Search Features - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1)

  • Retrieving WCM content from UCM and displaying on webcenter 11g

We will have a separate site designed using site studio for content contribution (WCM content). Presenting this content will be done on a separate site. The presentation site will be developed using Webcenter Framework 11g.
Our concern is how to retrive this WCM content from UCM to webcenter. Can we use CIS or CPS for this? What is right approach for this?
    -Pratap

    Hey Pratap,
One of the main advantages of 10gr4 is the new architecture that allows for the WCM_PLACEHOLDER service to be used to grab Site Studio content. In 10gr3 there are no out of the box services to pull an asset so you have to do a bit more work. The easiest piece to pull in 10gr3 is the value of a WYSIWYG element in a data file. That is one of the modes we implemented in our portlets, but is really only useful for pulling in legacy content into the site, you end up losing a lot of the template based rendering that you get when the page is rendered by the content server.
If I had to implement pulling in a 10gr3 based site and to get the full effect of the layouts and fragments I would first try to call the SS_GET_PAGE service directly and stream back the html. You may have to do some cleanup on the html that is returned to strip out things that won't work when you are inserting content that is part of a larger page in WebCenter. The second option I would try is to create a simple template engine on the WebCenter side that uses content that is in the Site Studio xml data file structure. However, this would be sort of a last resort since you would really be recreating work that is already done as part of Site Studio.
My recommendation is to try to migrate to 10gr4 if you can so that you can leverage the new architecture. It was designed with your exact use case in mind for reusing content in a different application while 10gr3 is still mostly based on the old 7.x Site studio architecture that really only allows for the site to be rendered by the content server.
So I'm not going to say that it cannot be done with 10gr3, it is just a lot more work.
    Hope that helps,

  • Ucm connection configuration on webcenter portal app

    Hi All,
We create a webcenter portal application and connect with Webcenter content using Application Resources --> connections --> content repository connection.
The parameters that we provided for the connection are:
Socket type: socket, Hostname, Port, Admin username and Password. We havent given the Webserver context root and Url of the webserver plugin.
In enterprise manager console while we check the webcenter connection configuration, the Web server context root /cs is automatically availble eventhough we havent provide them while creating our connection(checked on connections.xml also), because of which while using content presenter contributor mode, the UCM environment is opened inline.
We want our UCM enviroment to get opened in a new window as normal one and not on inline and may i know why the webserver context root is automatically available eventhough we didnt provide it explicitly
    thanks

Faces messages are displayed in a pop-up by ADF. This is the default behaviour.
If you want to display Faces Messages inline, then include the af:messages tag in an appropriate place with the inline attribute set to true. Add this to your home page.
    <af:messages inline="true" id="m1"/>

  • Migrating my site from webcenter Sites 11.1.1.6.0 to 11.1.1.8.0

    Hi,
I have installed Webcenter Sites 11.1.1.8 (on weblogic server). Now I need to move my site from the existing webcentr sites 11.1.1.6.0 installation over to the newly installed sites 11.1.1.8.
Can someone guide me on how to achieve this? Will publishing work across versions?
    Thanks!

Thanks Mike. The information is really useful.
Pratush, do you mean that though it is not supported officially but it does work?
Has any body done it successfully because when I add 11.1.1.8 instance as a target destination, I do not see the green light indicator. It's red!

  • Af:calendar and iframe in UCM web site page reloading automatically

I want to put a simple af:calendar app w/in an iframe in a UCM (SiteStudio) developed web page.
    I've added

    <param-value>never</param-value>

When I bring up the web page it "loops" constantly (using resource view in chrome) reloading the .jspx with the calendar component. Clicking stop then reload will show the page in the iframe.

and it rotates the logs multiple times since they fill up that fast. I've done this in Chrome, Firefox and IE 7.
Any ideas how to prevent? Chrome's dev tools don't show an error.
    Thanks much ...

    Hi,
hard to advise because this effect would need to be reproduced to flag this as a problem of the ADF Faces stack. If this shows in the context of UCM then this is what you need to exclude as a possible error source first. Can you create a JSPX page in JDeveloper and add the calendar page in an iframe (please build the calendar page in JDeveloper as well). If the behavior doens't show then, you would need to report the issue on an UCM forum

  • Use SiteStudio Fragments in Webcenter

    Hi,
according to this post it is possible to use SiteStudio fragments in Webcenter Portal.
    Re: UCM placeholders/sites in WebCenter
But according to the Oracle documentation it is only possible to use Site Studio region definitions-based content.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/webcenter.1111/e10148/jpsdg_content_intro.htm#CHDJEHDA
Can someone please give me further information on this.
    Thx
    Tobi

    Hi Tobi,
first of all, I'm afraid you walk a path not trodden often before, if ever. So, all results are not guaranteed.
Nevertheless, the idea is not to create "a different Webcenter Portal application", but rather create an app which is both WebCenter Portal and SSXA application. I guess you are probably familiar with how to create a WebCenter Portal App (if not, here is a good starting point: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/webcenter.1111/e10273/toc.htm ) Now, to make it also a SSXA app, you will have to add SSXA (Site Studio) as an additional Project Technology (see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/webcenter.1111/e10273/createapp.htm#CCHEGDIC , figure 3-5).
What could go wrong? I have read somewhere that Ctrl - Shift - C (entering contributor's mode) does not work well in WebCenter Portal Apps (assumptions were that there was some javascript conflict). Personally, I see no reason why fragments should not work, but you won't know until you try.
If the way above fails, you will need to "wrap" fragments to some higher-level object (region template, or even a region), which should be OK.
P.S. are you in any relation with Josef Huber, ex-Stellent country lead in Germany?

  • Oracle UCM 10gr3 and webcenter 11g, WCM Portlets

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle UCM 10gR3, Site Studio 10gR4 and Webcenter 11g. Now my problem is how to get the WYSIWIG (WCM Portlet) created in UCM to be retrieved in webcenter spaces.
My understanding after reading some articles is the only way i can communicate is through WSRP (CIS and CPS), if that is the case can u suggest what is the difference between them and which one is best one for a Intranet Application. Please also provide the example for the portlet and the steps to install them locally.
i not asking to give all the answers at a time. Just share bit by bit even if u have some knowledge.
    Thanks,
    Pradeep.
    I am a Newbie!!!

    Hey Pradeep,
You have lots of options for retrieving content from UCM in WebCenter besides CIS and by extension CPS. The best article on the subject can be found here (if you haven't already read it): http://blogs.oracle.com/fusionecm/2010/04/oracle_ucm_integration_with_we.html
To more directly answer your questions the difference between CIS and CPS is that CIS is the lower level API that actually does the communication with UCM. It serializes your request across the socket and handles the response data that comes back packaging it up as easy to use objects. CPS leverages CIS as its backend to allow the portlets to communicate with UCM.
For an intranet application you have lots of options. For document management I would recommend a combination of the Document Library taskflow along with a couple of the CPS portlets (my workflow assignments, etc). To retrieve content to display as part of an intranet "site" I would leverage the Content Presenter taskflow.
If the content to be retrieved is Site Studio 10gr4 assets I would instead recommend that you roll your own simple content portlets. That is what we ended up doing at Fishbowl and have reused them to great affect implementing several intranet portals for different customers in a very short amount of time. • WebCenter Sites (11.1.1.6) install alongside WebCenter Portal (11.1.1.6)

I'm looking for some recommendations for installing WebCenter Sites (11.1.1.6) on a development server which currently has WebCenter Portal (and Spaces), WebCenter Content (UCM/ECM) and WebTier installed.
For WebCenter Content and WebCenter Portal I followed the standard instructions and have been able to successfully start them in the Enterprise Manager, and login to the provided Spaces application.
    Environment
    Oracle Linux 6 (64bit)
    Oracle XE 11.2.0-1
    WebLogic 10.3.6
    Oracle (Sun) JDK 1.6.0_23
    Installed Products
    WebCenter Portal 11.1.1.6
    Content 11.1.1.6
    WebTier 11.1.1.6
    RCU 11.1.1.6
    Middleware Home Files
    ls /app/Middleware
         coherence_3.7
         domain-registry.xml
         logs
         modules
         ocm.rsp
         oracle_common
         Oracle_ECM1
         Oracle_WC1
         Oracle_WT1

    WebCenter Sites installation
The instructions (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E29495_01/index.htm) for "Installing on Oracle WebLogic Application Server" say to run "<wl_home>/wlserver_10.x/common/bin/config.sh" to create a new domain.
However as this machine already has Portal, Spaces and UCM installed under a domain called 'webcenter_domain'. My question is: How can I add WebCenter Sites into the existing webcenter domain, if that is the recommended way?
If it's better to create a new separate domain such as 'sites_domain', then how can both webcenter_domain and sites_domain be run alongside each other? This might be more of a WebLogic configuration question, I'm not sure.
I'm looking for what the best practice recommendation is for running these parts of WebCenter together on the same machine.
The WebCenter Sites install wizard settings I was going to use are below, if this is useful. The part I'm unsure about is astrixed:
    _./csInstall_
    - Installation Directory:     /app/Middleware/Oracle_WCS1
    - Development type
    - Install mode: custom
    - Avisport sample (check)
    - FirstSite II Sample site modules: (all)
    - Single server
    - Sites System Admin account: -
    - Sites Application Admin account: -
    - Satellite Server account: -
    - Sites Shared Files System: /app/Middleware/Oracle_WCS1/Shared
    - Host name: webcenterserver
    - Port of Application Server: 7001
    - Platform Type: Application Server Platform
    - Application Server: Weblogic
    - Site Application Deployment: 1
    Path: /app/Middleware/wlserver_10.3
    Application Context root: /cs
    - Sites Application Deployment: 2
    ** Weblogic domain name: sites_domain / webcenter_domain
    ** Sites application name: CS
    ** Manual Deployment dir: /app/Middleware/Oracle_WCS1/domains
Any pointers would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

The recommendation from the Oracle WebCenter & ADF Architecture Team is to keep the parts decoupled, installing WebCenter Sites on a separate machine. Otherwise it would be leading towards a 'Type 3' integration. Specifically looking at the proof-of-concept application 'Spark', which requires WebCenter Sites and WebCenter Portal installed on the same machine:
+"Due to this co-deployment requirement, most clients have avoided installing or using Spark. And not without reason: installing two big, complex applications on the same environment is problematic with regards to scalability and tuning."+

  • I18n(Multilingual) Implementation in WebCenter Sites

    Hi
Can anybody tell me how to implement Multilingual support in Web Center Sites?
In development guide it has been written that we have to create a separate template for each language by setting different language locale.
Is there is any different way for implementing the same by property file or something else.
    Any suggestion will be appreciated.
    Thanks In Advance

  • Integrating WebCenter Sites 11.1.1.8 and Endeca

    Hi all,
What’s New in Oracle WebCenter Sites 11.1.1.8 document states there is an integration of WC Sites with Endeca.
"Oracle Endeca Integration: Incorporate faceted search and guided navigation into WebCenter Sites driven websites to deliver more precise, relevant and complete search results. Enable site visitors to find information quickly with guided navigation. This Proof-of-Concept (PoC) reference implementation demonstrates how to integrate Endeca cartridges within WebCenter Sites. It includes sample code and best practice guidance. It will be productized at a later date."
Could you please guide me to where to find such PoC and more info about this integration?
We need to accompplish integration of WCSites and Endeca GuidedSearch.
Any help will be very much appreciated.

    Juan

Hi I have installed the UCM. during installation i used the option of extend the webcenter domain. When I try to start the UCM server using
    "startManagedWebLogic.cmd UCM_server1 http://localhost:16200"
I am getting the following error.

The boot identity may have been changed since the boot identity file was created. Please edit and update the boot identity file with the proper values of username and password. The first time the updated boot identity file is used to start the server, these new values are encrypted.

  • Webcenter Sites not working after creating 2 sites repeatedly

    Hi All,
I am using Linux, kernel version 2.6.32-300.29.1.el6uek.x86_64. Working with Oracle Webcenter Sites 11.1.1.6.0 installed on apache tomcat 6.0.33.
Problem description: I have created 1 Site in Webcenter Sites management system and assign these following roles ArtworkEditor, GeneralAdmin, Approver, ContentEditor, WorkflowAdmin, AdvancedUser, Analytics, SiteAdmin, MarketingAuthor, MarketingEditor, ContentAuthor, ProductAuthor, ProductEditor, SitesUser, DocumentAuthor, ArtworkAuthor, Designer, DocumentEditor to a specific user. Then I have created another site with different name in the same management system and asssign the similar roles for that site to the same user. After that I am not able to see the Admin and Contributor UI of that management system as well as all the sites including AdminSite.
To verify that I have repeated the same procedure in my local Webcenter Sites installation and the same thing happens again.
    Please help.

Sometimes the WEM Admin app corrupts the role and site assignments when saving changes.  Whenever you work in the WEM admin UI, be sure that all of your changes save fully - don't rush the saving of data in that UI.
To fix this, try to "re-provision" your users and sites and you should be able to restore access.  This is definitely frustrating, but it's fairly contained issue.
