Udev not loading firmware

Might be something simple i'm overlooking, but with kmod installed udev is stalling trying to load firmware (and fails):
ieee80211 phy0: brcmsmac: fail to load firmware brcm/bcm43xx-0.fw
ieee80211 phy0: brcmsmac: Failed to find firmware usually in /lib/firmware/brcm
The file is there. After booting is finished i can issue a modprobe normally and the firmware is loaded correctly.
Any pointers?

  • Udev not loading the right driver for usbtmc device

I have a usb beam profiler  and I'm trying to get it to work on arch linux. It works using NI-VISA, so I should be able to communicate with it using usbtmc. However, when I plug it in, it does not show up in /dev.
I think the problem is that udev is not loading the tmc interface driver when I plug it in.
Here's a snippet of the output from lsusb -v:
    Interface Descriptor:
    bLength 9
    bDescriptorType 4
    bInterfaceNumber 0
    bAlternateSetting 0
    bNumEndpoints 4
    bInterfaceClass 255 Vendor Specific Class
    bInterfaceSubClass 0
    bInterfaceProtocol 0
    iInterface 0
I believe that bInterface* should look something like:
    bInterfaceClass 254 Application Specific Interface
    bInterfaceSubClass 3 Test and Measurement
    bInterfaceProtocol 1 TMC
    iInterface 5 TMC488
Is there a way to force udev to load the right interface? Or is the problem that I'm missing something from my kernel?

Could you post the entire output of lsusb -v for the device?

What device node name are you expecting?
    Not sure, but probably /dev/usbtmc0
Is there a chance that it is being instantiated as a HID device?  Does /dev/usbhid0 appear?
    Nope, don't have a /dev/usbhid0
What does the journal say when the device has been attached?
I'm not sure what you mean, but dmesg says:

  • R5u87x driver not loading firmware for HP Webcam

    Hi everyone,
I have a HP webcam cam.My driver was detected properly as r5u87x outof the box with lsmod command. After doing an update from AUR repo(which was unnecessary) and loading the firmware with the loader command , it failed to load the giving an error.Since then the r5u87x driver is not present in the modules list.
    modprobe r5u87x
fatal error : no r5u87x module
    dmesg | grep "HP Webcam"
    [ 7.562574] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device HP Webcam-101 (0bda:5801)
    [ 7.580578] input: HP Webcam-101 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb1/1-1/1-1.3/1-1.3:1.0/input/input12
Is it possible to undo the changes to bring the system to its pre AUR repo update state and remove this driver update. Now as one can see  in the messages uvcvideo driver is loaded instead.
Any help will be appreciated. thanks

I would be very interested to know the exact procedure you used to determing that your camera driver was identified by lsmod as r5u87x.
Specifically r5u87x is NOT intended for your camera. Your camera is identified from the Vendor ID (0bda) as coming from the Realtek Semiconductor company. r5u87x is only intended for use with Ricoh cameras (identified by 05ca).
Furthermore r5u87x is not even a driver. It is a userland firmware loader. It injects the camera's microcode into it's volatile memory. Even if you were to use the loader correctly on your system you would only get an error message of "No supported devices found!".
A google search of your camera indicates that it is supported by the uvcvideo driver.
Specifically how have you determined that your camera is not working? Is a /dev/videoX device present on your system? test it with xawtv or mplayer.
As the r5u87x package is completely worthless to your system simply remove it by issuing
    pacman -Rs r5u87x-hg
If your camera continues to not work edit the title of this post to something more appropriate, perhaps "HP Webcam (0bda:5801) & uvcvideo not working". I have no experience or expertise with uvcvideo to begin troubleshooting your real problem.

  • X41 wireless not loading firmware at boot [Solved]

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo X41T with an ipw2200 chipset for which I have installed ipw2200-fw from pacman. I have ipw2200 as my last module in the MODULES section in rc.conf. When I start my computer, my ipw2200 driver complains that the firmware is not being loaded. I checked the ipw2200 driver homepage and it listed two possible reasons for why it was giving the error: either the firmware was incompatible with the driver in the kernel or /sys was not being mounted at boot. So I added sys to my fstab and rebooted. I received the same error. However, if other people have no problems using the ipw2200 driver then it means that something else is wrong.
I tried navigating into /sys/ and found a 'firmware' directory. The only thing in that directory is 'acpi'. Do other users of the ipw2200 driver have firmware installed in the /sys directory? Is there something else that is causing this problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I should also mention that the driver works after I rmmod ipw2200; modprobe ipw2200. It would just be a lot more nifty if I didn't have to do that.
EDIT 2: Here is my rc.conf as well as the errors I am seeing: http://pastebin.archlinux.org/13605
EDIT 3: I think that my initrd is trying to load the ipw2200 module before the filesystem has been mounted.
Last edited by kandrews (2007-09-02 01:17:02)

I figured out that I needed to add the firmware hook to mkinitcpio.conf and regenerate the initrd with regenerate the initrd with
    mkinitcpio -p kernel26

  • HP Laserjet M2727nf - Firmware not loading to Printer

My printer display was not working so I ordered a new one.  But as I read some postings it seems to be by formatter board.  I baked the formatter board.  After I baked it, the display would show: Hewitt Packard >>>>>.  I did the below
but the firmware utility update is not going to the printer.  The display shows ***BootDimm*** Ready 2 download.
I have left the jumper on and have taken it off to upload the firmware to the printer.  Nothing has happened.   I have not even seen the display changing to erasing firmware, then programing firmware.
I baked the board and it started to work.  I then Download the firmware utility update for my printer.  I Removed the printer left cover. Turned the printer on while it’s was connected by usb. Jumper or short the 2 pin connector - the display read "ready to load firmware".  I heard the printer usb driver connect / initialize in windows-
Next I started the HP firmware update utility, select your printer from drop down list.   However the display did not change to erasing firmware, then programing firmware; finally it will display "firmware rom upload complete" - or  something close to that.  The computer did do this:  the progress bar on the firmware update utility in windows completed and displayed the smiley face (about 3 min).  Then I turned the printer off - unpluged it and disconnect the usb cable from the printer. It did not load.  So where did I go wrong.

Apple included the Gimp-Print driver "HP Laserjet 6 Series" for that printer. Does that show up?

  • Firmware will not load on Zen To

I just purchased a Zen Touch and I tried to upgrade the firmware to the 2...0 latest version. (You would think that Creative would ship new units with latest firmware, but they do not. Pretty lame). So?I downloaded the?latest firmware?to my desktop and ran it. When asked, I plugged in my Zen via the USB cable (in the rear of the computer/not front) and the firmware started to run. It then stalled and the Zen went into recovery mode and got stuck. I waited 0 minutes and nothing happened. I contacted Creative Service (did you know that they are located in Singapore?) and I explained the problem. We then spent an hour on the phone and did the following: () confirmed in device manager that the Zen is being recognized which it is, (2) reloaded the drivers, (3) uninstalled and reinstalled the CD software, (4) went into the registry and edited the USB settings as explained in the knowledge base to allow all users, (5) rebooted the computer, (6) redownloaded both firmware versions from the Creative download site, (7) tried re-running the firmware update. Even though the Zen is recognized in the device manager and it is shown on the desktop tray, firmware will not load and device will not sync and firmware update on desktop says that the device is not connected. Creative support then told me that the Zen was defecti've and to return it--which I did. I got a new one and the exact same problem occured. What is also interesting is that while the Zen Touch is a 40 gig player, but when I open it up (yes, I can even view the Zen dri've on the desktop and reformat it, which I did), the dri've reads as only having 20 megs instead of 40 gigs--which makes no sense to me.
Creative clearly has a serious bug issue to resolve. My computer is running on a P4 with Windows XP, with SP2. If anyone can solve this one, Creative should send them a free player and hire them. Please reply only if you are super knoweldgeable as I have wasted too much time and I am ready to pack this unit up and buy an I-Pod at this point. Thanks!Message Edited by randelcole on 2-02-200607:09 AM

This forum is for the Shockwave Player - the plugin for running Adobe Director files in a browser. You need a forum for the Flash Player - the Shockwave Flash plugin. Blame Macromedia for confusing the name space of the 2 separate and distinct plugins

I purchased a Hyundai Elantra.  My IPod will not load.  Trying my son's Ipod, that one loaded.  The cable and the automobile software do not seem to be the problem.  Someone suggested that I need to update my firmware but I do not know the steps in going about doing this.  Will someone out there list them for me.  Thank you,

I need to update my nikon D800 firmware but my Macbook Pro does not load a mass storage icon in my desktop, so, how can I update it if I can't get into the CF card pastes?

I'd say your sister messed up and your iPod is toasted.
Think about it...  She plugged it in to another computer, she doesn't remember what she did (yeah, right), and now your iPod is not being recognized by your computer...
Also take into consideration how old is your sister, and how much does she know about electronics?

  • E71 local search plugins not loading since firmwar...

Has anybody else encountered the problem?
all that is showing up in the search app is the web search end the search on the mobile itself.
the plugins with the local (yellowpages...phone book.... ) information based on the region you provide are not loading.
before the firmware update local search was available.
I also notice search is no longer available for download from the nokia site (broken links)..
    Please help.

this probably is a case of a bug in ur device so what u can try are: plz make a back up
take out your sim card and put in *#7780# to restore factory settings. you should not lose any data, but all settings will go into default. try that first.
the second option is a reset *#7370# this one will erase all of your data, 'wipe the phone clean' and restore to factory settings. see if any of these options work and if you are able to use your phone as you like/need to.
the third option U can go in for a hard reset which will turn ur device as it left the factory totally new
U can also update/reinstall ur firmware and see the result...
Also use ur device without the memory card and see
in case of ur memory card there are different options available to you to get rid of the corrupt/unwanted data in your card.
    menu--tools--memory---options---format memory card......
remember everything including ur factory installed apps will be deleted......... but u can always download them later either from nokia or google them...
or insert ur card in any reader or laptop and check for virus and also the hidden folders.......

  • Adobe flash will not load - gives only a black screen

For all the (3) users on this computer.   For most browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) The browser window goes 100% BLACK when a flash program link is opened and most of the time the cursor / Pointer freezes (occasionally disappears and all keyboard actions are blocked.  Have to force quit or kill the box with the power key (which always bothers me.)  No Adobe links work directly via the link in mail or in browser.  Symptom in Mail is either the original window goes BLACK or a separate window opens in Black.
    Current OS X 10.9.3 (13D65), Memory 4GB on 2.4 GHz Intel core i7 in MacBook Pro  15" Late 2011.
    Relevant?? Items:
    1.     The Adobe company checking device says Flash is not loaded.  I have had flash 9, 10, 11, 12, & 13 working before the latest of   OS X upgrades were made.
    2.     An aside, I recently (4 months ago) used a MacKeeper app.  Today (not used except for information gathering) the "System Scan says my ProtectMac anti-virus is active and no security problems noted.  Also noted was "Serious" issue relating to one of 128 issues (474.3 MB of 'junk' files-36.9 MB in 'Logs", 437.4 MB in Caches.)  "Performance" listed as 'Fast.'  No action is taken and System Scan app closed.
    3.     I seem to have lost my copy of Flash 13 in the Applications folder and the install file tries to load  "AdobeFlashPlayerInstaller_14_ltrosxd_aaa_aih.dmg"
This makes sense as to item 1. above.
    4.      Another user loaded adobe flash 11 from a download file called, "AdobeFlashPlayerInstaller_11au_ltrosxd_aaa_aih.dmg."  I do not understand the meaning of  the part of the file name that reads "_11au_" as it seem to differ from other downloads for "_11eu_".  Additionally the copy retained is filed in history and had only the user permissions of one user.  Also that copy _11au_ has no mention of Browser Type in the name description of the .dmg file; but the "_11eu_" does mention Safari browser.   Since it was from July 8, 2013 I assume it doesn't matter and it should have been superseded by Flash 12 OSX.  Mentioned here only for interest.  Also, It may have been saved on this computer in case of rebuild for another user on the home network running 13" MacBook Pro 10.6 Leopard.
    5.  Attempts to reload Flash 13 from 'AdobeFlashPlayerInstaller_13au_ltrosxd_aaa_aih.dmg' as the "Adobe Flash Player Installer" connects to the latest version not yet installed and keeps downloading the Flash 14, which fails and locks up the browser.
    6.     The download from get,Adobe.com starts out O.K.  After the installer file.dmg completes well, Step 2. is to open it, that, too, works well with an open window of a mounted device on the desktop.  The next step is to double-click the icon.  That only works so far.  A window opens and it has a progress thermometer but it never downloads any product and the link is declared "unavailable" immediately.  Refuses to load and will not always give the pointer back or let the browser continue.
    7.     While creating this 'Summary' something changed.  Using Spotlight I found a different version of Flash Installer on my Mac.  I clicked it to go to the Black screen after installer download competes and got a totally different response.  I was set to take snapshots of the windows as they progressed.  The ".dmg" Icon on the desktop changed from default plain white disk to the red "Flash Player" I had not seen for last 40 days.

Everything went normally and loaded but I cannot test it as all browsers were closed.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • PS3 (Playstation 3) issue not loading BDR Bluray | Adobe Encore CS6

I recently created a Bluray using Adobe Encore CS6, and the Bluray is not loading on my PS3, but is working fine on my other player (LG, Toshiba and PC).  Does anyone have the same issue and found a solution?  I need help on this as most of my client use their PS3 as Bluray player.
Authoring program: Adobe Encore CS6 with the Creative Cloud latest update
PS3 with latest firmware update (PS+ member with auto-update: on)
Video files: 1920x1080 FPS 23.976 Program Stream MPEG-2 for Bluray *.m2v (transcode with FCP Compressor)
Audio files: Dolby Digital Audio *.ac3
    Burner software: CyberLink Power2Go V6
Burner hardware: HP BD Writer bd340i
    Media: Verbatim BD-R 25GB 6x Speed
    Project size: 20/25GB
The project setting in CS6 is: Blu-ray NTSC with MPEG-2 Codec at 1920x1080 at 23.976FPS
The “Check Project” shows no error.  I build (output) as an image, then burn the *.ISO file using CyberLink Power2Go.
The BD-R work fine everywhere (LG & Toshiba player) except on my PS3.  The BD-R has the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folder, so I don’t know why my PS3 don’t recognize it.  And I have three PS3 at home; 1xPS3 80GB version (3yrs old) and 2xPS3 super slim (1yr old).  All three are unable to see the BD-R.  My PS3 work fine with all other media (games & movie Bluray); and I highly doubt that all three have trouble with the Bluray player.
I did the same process last time (in 2013) and everything is working fine, all the same configuration, except I used Adobe Encore CS4.  My PS3 was able to read and recognize the BD-R.  But since CS6, my PS3 don’t see the BD-R.  I also put back the copy that I did last year with CS4 (just to make sure that is not a PS3 firmware issue) and the Bluray work fine.  The media (Verbatim) come from the same tower (leftover from last year).
So everything point toward CS6…is there something that change from CS4 to CS6 for Bluray creation? Jumping from Encore CS4 to CS6, I don’t see anything different, but look like there is, because the Bluray can no longer be played on my PS3.  Please help!

Create an ISO (Encore) or folder on your hard drive (Encore or Premiere Elements) and then use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or ISO to disc for DVD or BluRay (send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)
Imgburn will read the ACTUAL disc brand from the disc, which is not always the same as the box label (Memorex is notorious for buying "anything" and putting it inside a Memorex box)
When you write to disc with Imgburn, use the SLOWEST possible speed setting, so your burner has the best chance to create "good, well formed" laser burn holes... since no player is required to read a burned disc, having a "good" one from a high quality blank will help

Starting your Mac in "Safe Mode" (see below) will load only Apple-provided kernel extensions. Observing its perfomance in that mode will be instructive.
The problems you describe are likely to have been caused by garbage software of which "TechTool Pro" is only one example. That system has been altered from its factory configuration through the installation of several third party system modifications, any one of which can cause poor performance. Interaction between two or more is another possibility. Running a torrent client is another way of inviting malware intrusion.
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

  • Attachments/Pictures not loading in messages (details section) post iOS 8.0.2

I have an iPhone 5 - after downloading 8.0.1 I discovered the new "Details" section of messages that showed all of your pictures/videos in a message thread as "Attachments", grouped in a grid style. However, after my update to 8.0.2 some of the attachments do not load. There is no way to click on the pictures/attachments to "download" them. When you click on the impacted attachments it will simply show a message such as  "IMG_3645.jpg" for example. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which images do/don't load.
I have checked and confirmed I have available storage left
I have done a hard re-boot (with the power/home button simultaneously
I haven't seen any other instances (in forums, etc..) regarding this issue.
    Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

**** the Apple,ios8.0.2 makes iPhone 5s useless, according to Apple if u want to downgrade to iOS 7.1.2,u should throw your mobile out and buy a new iPhone 5s from Apple Store and you could install stable iOS 7.1.2..... Stupid people with no brain....try to hire some developers from android they will do the rest,,,,I was with android before,I have not had this type of inability even single time.....even if firmware is completely buggy and useless,we must use that firmware as no other options are there.....what a stupid policy is this?.......my iPhone 5s is completely useless with iOS 8.0.2 now. Could I return my iPhone to Apple Store? Idiots....
