UGHHH again, 6th time Mac fails me ..... and best buy charges me so they can "inspect it".

well the previous times 4/6 were do to manufacturing defects, the last 2 were due to the screen messing up.
now after i had this for a month, the fan makes a noise like it hits something inside and the screen leaves a purple "stain" on the screen when watching movies and playing games, it goes away after it a few hours. 
but really, i went there to get it repaired and the guy said he has to charge me 60$ to look at it, and then send it to apple.
im like really, a month or two old computer and it breaks down ? and I have to pay!!! .... so im going to go complain, im going to either get my computer fixed for free or i want to return my MAC for store credit so i can purchase another laptop.... like i had it up to here with there snotty people, there attitude towards me was NOT deserved. One worker told me " well if it works fine its not worth fixing" im like ???? " seriously, i paid good money for it and i dont want ink marks on my screen when it gets "warm" "   

If it is undetermined to be a software or hardware issue then they are authorized to charge a diagnostic and then refund it after they verify the warranty covers it.
Similar to how car repairs work.
Beyond that I do not know the exact $60 is except for maybe sending it out to service, but if it is under a warranty normally there isn't a charge for that.
If it is after the 14 days it is unlikely that they will be willing to do a return outside of the 14 days since they will eat the cost of the laptop. And, based on industry average gross margins they would have to sell 10+ laptops to make up for that single one they ate...

    I will check.  Can the security update be installed if you can no longer open the Mac App Store app?

    This may sound stupid, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway. Is it possible, that if I have enough junk on my desktop it might disrupt the signal? It seems odd, but it kind of looks like my signal is strong and relatively steady now that I've cleaned my desktop. I do tend to get very cluttered. I use a lot of reference images and save text clippings to use later... it just piles up very quickly.
    So, I wonder if all that extra effort my system has to do keeping up with the junk might have something to do with the drop outs?

    Yes, that is the number. And what version of Aperture have you installed? The same version as on your old Mac?
    But it don´t work on my new Mac...
    In what way does it not work? Does it require you to enter a licence number for Aperture 2 as well? That will be necessary, if your serial number is an upgrade serial number. Then you will have to enter all previous numbers as well.
    Or does Aperture not accept the number as correct? Then check the spelling; some letters are easily confused like "I" and "1" and "O" and "0". Do not use the number pad to enter the numbers.

    If you are having issues with activating your Apple ID for FaceTime and iMessage, then take a look at the article below to get it sorted out. Make sure that you have the Date and Time set to Automatic as well as any other steps listed in the article.

    This happened to me.  The chances are, that your headphone socket has some fluff stuck inside it. 
    If you get your SIM card removal tool, or something similarly pointy in shape, very very gently dig out the fluff and clag inside your headphone socket.  You won't be able to see anything of course because it's so far up.  After removing some fluff, I also put the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner over the hole, using my hands ot create a bit of a seal, and afterwards my phone worked normally again.
    While you're doing it, you may also want to remove any fluff from your charging socket too.
    NB - do be careful though, because you don't want to cause any damage up there, but as long as you don't go "attacking" it, you should be fine.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order

    You report it the the police and give then the serial number. All they really do is know to whom to return it to if it is recovered.

  • Time Machine Failing Over and Over

    So I am backing up my EX HD with Time Machine for the first time and it keep failing. It stops between 3 gb and about 20gb (I have 180 total). Keeps giving the error "The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk ". The HD I was using is a brand new Western Digital that I formatted two partitions. One for my old windows machine and this MBP. I formatted it exactly several times and it keeps failing.
    My neighbor said I need to have a HD that is completely clean, so i went and bought a brand new Iomega HD just for Mac. It also failed over and over! I have read about every thread out there and cant seem to find a possible cause other than my internal HD is toast.
    Has anyone else had this experience before?

    Sorry I'm not sure I understand your question now.
    Let me try: if you excluded your Documents folder and TM now works, your backup size was likely the problem.
    So if you simply remove Documents from the TM exclusion list you will run back into the size problem... no good.
    If you first delete the large contents from the documents folder on your startup disk, then you can ask TM to backup again the Documents folder by removing it from the TM exclusion list, but obviously only what remains there (not the deleted material) will be saved by TM.
    In other words, if you want to keep your 80 GB files on your startup disk, either you do not backup them or you use a larger backup disk. Otherwise you may remove the 80 GB from your startup disk; but now you probably want to keep 2 copies of them in 2 different external disks, for safety reasons, without using TM.

    a while ago we bought a site license for Adobe CS6 Mac ENG and we installed it without and problem. After a while one Mac came up that the license was expired and the program will go to trial mode. After we keyed in the serial number again, we could continue. This occured on several Macs already.
    Also, op PC, we have a similar problem. After installation, I could work properly and after a period the  program will not start up again. I don't get any error message at all. What can be the reason for this? How can we solve it?

    After you download the upgrader, you will need to go to your Applications folder and find the Utilities folder.
    In there will be the iPhoto Library Upgrader (version 1.1). Open the application and follow the instructions. Should get you going.

  • WildStar and Best Buy's Terrible Customer Support

    To Anyone Who Might Read This:
    Because I can't seem to get a timely response from anyone through a private message in less than 3 days, because Best Buy phone reps feign ignorance and pass me along from rep to rep like a basketball (last call was for 88 minutes; 5 reps), and because at this point I feel as though my money has been stolen from me, I will resort to posting on your forums with the desperate hope of a reply.
    Allow me to frame my comments with the backstory.  On May 30, 2014, I purchased a download pre-order of WildStar Online.  I paid for the full purchase of the game (59.99).  According the Best Buy's online and instore adds, pre-ordering WildStar would give me several bonuses ingame, as well as access to the headstart weekend beginning on May 31.  The full game edition would be released on June 3, but of course I had paid in full for the game, so I expected to recieve both the pre-order bonuses as well as the full game client.
    According to both my receipt and the online add, I was to recieve the pre-order bonus code by email "shortly" after purchase.  I did not.  After several hours, I contacted Best Buy by phone, and I was assured that the email address on file was correct and that I should recieve my code soon.  The following morning (May 31st), six hours after the headstart bonus I was supposed to recieve had already started, I still did not have any email from Best Buy. At that point, I found this forum, Best Buy Unboxed, and followed the instructions given by the moderators for just this issue.  I sent two private messages to BBY which included my customer service pin and the rest of the required information, but by Saturday evening at 8p.m., I still had not recieved a response.
    At this point, I called Besty Buy customer service again, as I was missing out on the pre-order bonus that I had paid for, in full, in advance, and had been guaranteed by Best Buy.  The first four representatives I spoke to feigned ignorance and passed me along to the next, all with significant hold times.  After 84 minutes, I was connected with a so-called online game specialist who told me my pre-order code would be sent to me within 24-48 hours.  Perhaps you can see my dilemna here: 48 hours from that point would be approximately 9p.m. on Tuesday, June 2nd, 3 hours before the full release of the game.  With registration and the client download, I would effectively miss out on the headstart bonus I WAS GUARANTEED WITH MY PREORDER FROM BEST BUY.  And this is exactly what happened.
    Once I finally recieved a response from Best Buy Unboxed and an email with my pre-order code, I was able to download and play WildStar for two days.  On June 5, the WildStar client prompted me for game time credit, and would no longer allow me to access the game for play.  30 days of playtime comes with all editions of WildStar, so I was initially confused about the prompt, but after a little research I came to find out that Best Buy was supposed to send me two separate codes:  A PRE-ORDER BONUS CODE "shortly" after purchase and a "RETAIL CODE" after release on June 3.  I HAVE NOT RECIEVE THE RETAIL CODE, SO I CANNOT PLAY THE GAME I PAID BEST BUY IN FULL FOR IN ADVANCE!!!!!!
    I sent a new private message about this problem to BBY on this forum yesterday morning (6/6/14), and I have still not recieved a response.  Do you guys work on the weekends?  I also sent a reply email to Best Buy, using the "reply to" address on the email that contained my pre-order bonus code, but I have still not recieved a response.  I cannot think of a logical reason why I can't be given a response within 24 hours from Best Buy, particularly considering I have already paid in full for this product.  
    I am a long-time, loyal customer of Best Buy, but my confidence in your company has been shaken in recent years.  Customer service, within your stores (particularly in Mississippi), is absolutely horrid.  You representatives are not in the least bit knowledgeable, and do little more than hound customers for sales--if they aren't too busy huddled in electronics hiding from us. Phone support is equally terrible.  I should not have to spend 88 minutes on a phone call and be passed from rep. to rep. to rep. to rep. until someone figurs out how to get an item to me that I have already purchased.  It looks like I will now have to add Best Buy's electronic assistance to the list of my terrible customer service experiences, as a 2-3 day response time from you guy is absolutely ridiculous.
    Since 2001-2002, I have spent literally tens of thousands of dollars at Best Buy.  I have purchased televisions, vcrs, dvd players, blueray players, car stereos, computers, movies, video game consoles, console games, computer games, music, Keurigs, surround sound systems, an Ipad Mini, an ASUS pad.....I could go on and on.  Considering my loyalty to your company, considering that the first place I want to go whenever we travel to a city that has a Best Buy is your store, considering all the money I have spent with you guys over the years.....this situation, your inability to get my the darn RETAIL CODE FOR WILDSTAR that I have already paid for, well, it just pisses me off to no end.
    I am beyond frustrated.  I feel as though Best Buy has stolen my money.  Could you, actually would you (because I know you can) send me the merchandise that I have already paid for, and help to restore some of my faith in Best Buy?

  • I was charged over $600 for a phone I returned and it has been reactivated, but they can't take the charge off my bill.

    In September I was charged $650 for a broken phone that was not returned.  I took the phone to Verizon store near my home and asked what I needed to do to return the equipment.  The sales rep said all I needed to do was put it in the envelope and put it in the mail.  I asked him if there was paperwork or anything I needed to send with it.  He said again, no you just put it in the envelop and put it in the mail.  So against my better judgement I did.  October came and the charge was still on my bill.  I called customer service and they told me to wait and it should show up.  I called again a couple weeks later and explained what I had done and that I had returned the phone.  The supervisor I talked to figured out that I had sent the phone to "Hope Line"  which was a padded envelope that came in the same return box.  So basically I donated a phone $650 to Hope Line.  She reassured me that Hope Line also tracks the phones and once it showed up on their system my account would be credited.  I talked to someone on Friday and my phones-3 of them were shut off on Monday.  I called again and the new person I talked to told me the phone had been found, but they couldn't credit my account for a couple of days.  They transferred my call to billing and the guy was upset that the customer service person had even told me that.  The November bill came out and still the charge was there.  I called again and again my phones were shut off.  I called to get them reinstated the first part of December.  The person on the phone this time told me that I would have to pay the fee.  I asked if the phone had been found.  He was rude and stated it did not go back to the warehouse and I would have to pay the fee.  He did tell me that the phone had been reactivated.  So if the phone had been reactivated and someone was paying for the data plan, why did I have to pay for the equipment fee that I sent back and now someone else was using?  I asked to talk to a supervisor.  She stated that I would have to pay the fee, but she was going to talk to warehouse and see if there was something they could do to get the fee taken off-since someone else is now using that phone.  She told me she would get back to me in a couple of days.  That was the second week of December and still I have not heard back from anyone.  My December/January bill is due the 29th and still I have a $650 charge on my bill.  Any suggestions on how I can get this resolved?

    That sounds like an idea.I've had trouble with Verizon a lot .I I switch ed back to a non andriod phone cause of the expense it took 3 months and at least that many hours of phone calls &store visits to straight in it out...there's been many times things are blocked and a month later its back on the bill,u call and are told they can't do anything ...not there problem, can't b fixed from there end,I asked to talk to a sup. At was told I couldn't then she said I'd b told the same thing I insisted...I was on hold for about 20 minutes I hung up tried to call back they would not answer, I called my daughter had her call they answered when she told them they tried to blow her off too, so she went down to a store and made a complaint.. I don't have a store in our town,the customer should not have Togo through all that trouble some of this is down right criminal... I'm going through more problems again....they won't Evan discuss it with me unless I pay what's owed and the amount has still got the internet fees they've never taken off.
