UME change from ABAP to other ABAP system

I have a java-only system names QAJ which is mapped to our Solution Manager system for UME (please don't ask why!). 
 
I want to change UME to ABAP system QAS. 
 
So, I go to NWA -> Administration -> Identity Management . 
 
Under the ABAP system tab, I change necessary info such as servername, user SAPJSF, password and client to my QAS system. I then click on TEST connection which works well. I am asked to restart cluster to activate changes. 
 
So, I restart QAJ... and it fails to start. in file std_server.out

Ok, so something is wrong in my entries even if test connection works fine. 
 
Becasue JAVA stack does not start anymore, I need to go to configtool. Everything that I changed is active, I can see everything. Still, I do not know which parameters is causing all this. 
 
Anybody know where to go from here?

I found the problem.
in configtool, in parameter ume.login.guest_user.uniqueids, value was set to J2EE_GST_QAJ.
user J2EE_GST_QAJ did not exist in ABAP system QAS. I created it as a service user and gave it role SAP_J2EE_GUEST.
I also increased values for ume.r3.connection..master.poolmaxsize and ume.r3.connection..master.poolmaxwait
after Java stack restart, system works fine again.
thanks to everyone that took time to read my question. Hopefully, someone with the same problem will find a possible solution.

Have you looked at System Prefs>International>Formats and made sure that you have the UK selected as your region? Also, make sure under Input Menu you have British checked, and not US.
You may need to restart to make sure the settings hold,

How to move the changes from one system to other without using CMS

In our project they are migrating NWDI 6.40 to NWDI 7.0.
During migration CMS won't be available.
Could you plesae tell what are the different options are there to move the WebDynpro changes from (NWDS) Development to Quality system and then production system without using CMS server?
If i will create a development package and import this packgae in Quality package will my new changes also be available in Quality server?

Hi Susmita
I wasn't completely sure, but from your description of your problem, it seemed like you would have access to your DTR during your upgrade. The following solution assumes as much. If this is not the case, you'll need to do things slightly differently, but the solution will still be possible.
Depending on the scope and size of your changes, it may be practical for your developers to deploy directly from their NetWeaver Developer Studio (or for a designated administrator to install the NWDS and do the same). To do so, from the Development Configurations perspective, create a new NWDS project for each of the DCs you want to deploy. Then right-click the project and choose from one of the deployment options. (Deploy new archive and run will allow you to see if your deployment has taken effect.) When deploying, the target server is the one set up as your J2EE engine in the NWDS properties - you'll consequently have to modify this when the target server for your deployment changes (from QA to production, or vice versa).
Note that this is only applicable in certain situations, and only as a short term stopgap measure. This sort of practice - developers or administrators deploying haphazardly to servers other than those intended for development - is precisely what the NWDI is designed to prevent (and is one of very few things it's fairly good at doing). For instance, if your QA and production systems are attached as TEST and PROD runtimes systems respectively in your NWDI, a full assembly and subsequent full deployment would usually occur to these servers when deploying with the NWDI. This is a much stronger guarantee of consistency than the build that will be performed within your local NWDS to deploy your changes. (Conversely, the rigidity of the assembly is perhaps the NWDI's greatest design flaw.)

Changing from Periodic inventory system to SAP

Hi All,
I have an accounting questions regarding company that switching from Periodic Inventory system to SAP's perpetual inventory system.
For company that practices Periodic Inventory System, the method to calculate cost of goods sold = opening stock balances + purchases - closing stock balances. All these is reflected in the P&L statement.
When they switch to SAP, do they need to enter all these figures into SAP for the opening balances?
As SAP will not have opening balance stock, closing stock and purchases accounts, do they have to create these accounts in P&L just to take in the balances?
Does anyone have implemented for company that changing from periodic to perpetual inventory system? How do you take in the opening balances? if possible please give example, thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. But what is the variance that you guys are talking about? Take example:
Old system:
Opening Stock balance = $ 5,000
+Purchases = $20,000
-Closing Stock balance = $ 9,000
Balance = $16,000
The amount that goes into Asset is Closing Balance $9,000 and the amount goes to P&L as COGS is $ 16,000? The rest for $20,000 and $ 5,000 can be ignore?

It is really not hard to manually create the structure. Ctrl-Y copy from the source system screen and paste in the target system screen. You'll have to do this one page at a time. So, you will have to repeat it 9 times (or 18 times if you have to copy/paste component list and type separately).
I can assure you that you can finish the task in less than 30 minutes.

Remove ABAP Statck from the Dual statck Portal system.

I have our ESS portal( Netweaver 7.0) is implemented on a Dual Stack. Dual stack for Portal was an idea by our Implementors which later we realized was unnecessory.
Now we are moving the Portal to a different machine. And we are planning to get rid of the ABAP stack and have just the JAVA Stack.
Currently our UME is the ABAP Stack. while i move this to single stack we are planning to point the UME to the back end ( ERP ) ABAP Statck.
What i need is a procedure how to achieve this.
Would be great help if somebody could throw some ideas.

Dear Jamshid,
Unfortunately it is not possible to remove or uninstall the ABAP stack from a dual-stacks system.
What you can consider might be like this:
1. export all the protal content which you have created and configured in this system.
2. reinstall a new pure Java AS + Portal system
3. then import all the content to this new to replace the old one.
Regarding changing the UME storage, there are some limitations, i.e, if you are using ABAP as the UME datasource then you can only change it to LDAP, and not possible to change to Java database.

ABAP proxy method change - from which version?

Hi,
for some new abap proxies when generating them inside
SPROXY methods like EXECUTE_ASYNCHRONOUS
are no longer available - it's fine I can use the message interface name
as the method and the call works fine

but does any of you know from which version this works like that?
any SP level or patch level? (any OSS note mentioning it maybe)?
I just need the document (or link) that mentions - from this version

It came with SAP_BASIS SP14, the same release were SAP introduced the proxy generation for PI 7.1 service interfaces with several operations. This was the reason for the change.
The PI systemis not relevant, but the SP level of the component SAP_BASIS of the application system.
I am sure if there is any documentation availble for this change. I read about this change in SDN forum

System Copy from ABAP Stack to ABAP+Java Stack

Hi,
Is it possible to system copy (homogeneous or heterogeneous) from a system based on ABAP Stack to a system based on ABAP+Java Stack? Is it the normal system copy procedure or something aditional is required to do. Pl. advise. Thanks

The webdynpro/ABAP (WDA) calling RFC enabled FM of other ECC systems

The webdynpro/ABAP (WDA) has problem calling RFC enabled FM of other ECC systems.
WDA expects all the ABAPs, RFC FMs of remote system(DEV, QA..) to reside inside its own instance.
It is hard to transport and maintain these ABAPs FMs into a portal ABAP WDA instance.
Proxy generation at WDA client:

I am doing same thing for my current SRM implementation.I am taking data to SRM server from another R/3 server .
This is solution I have used
1) First of all I have made ABAP connection in SM59 .
Go to SM59 .In ABAP Connection creat ABAP connection with system with which u want communicate .
Eg I am connection with Systems PB1.
So i developed Connection call PB1CLNT800.
2) In my requirement I have taken data in my context from another r/3,
I have give called RFC in my supply function of node.
Call to RFC is as usual.
In my case,
CALL FUNCTION 'RFC_MATNR'
DESTINATION 'PB1CLNT800'
TABLES
IT_MATNR = IT_MATNR.
Onwards I have read my itab IT_MATNR and populated data to context.
Hope solution will serve your purpose.
Give point if it works .If any problem i have other ways.

The symbol u00BE read from a database by ABAP changes to u00F3

I have a table where a column contains the 3/4 mark (¾). When I list the table with SQL or MSAccess, the 3/4 mark is visible as expected. However, when ABAP reads this same table, the 3/4 mark is changed to ó. If I view the table in SE16, same result.
I would chalk it up to a font issue but when the ABAP writes the row to a new table, the change is permanent. Reviewing the row ABAP inserted shows that the ¾ was changed permanently to ó. Even MSAccess and SQL show this new character in place of the old when looking at the inserted row.
What is causing this change? It is obviously changed during the SELECT into ABAP and stays changed from that point forward. I need to wither figure out how to make the correct code pull into ABAP or how to convert it to the correct code on the insert into the new table.

I would guess that you have a bad mixture of code pages. What Lanuage are you using in SAP and what code page is the data written in this database table?.
SAP internally uses character set 1100 which is ISO Latin-1 for English. Microsoft has a slightly different code page for Latin-1 they call 1252. However checking the code page map in SAP, the oacute (ó) should be hex F3 whereas the threequarters (¾) is hex BE. This matches the hex values that I have for Windows 1252. The following is a website where you check out the hex values for many different character sets: http://www.i18nguy.com/unicode/codepages.html#msftwindows. The SAP values can be viewed from SPAD.
If you do have an odd mixture of code pages, you might have to force the translation. The following would be the example ABAP code:
translate wa_itab1 from code page '1404'.
You would just have to find the SAP code page that matches what your data is encoded in.

Export data from the R/3 system from a ABAP report to BW system

In the second option as you mentioned sending the data to BI.
1. Check when u click on second option what is the target details that is showing?( Menas suppose if you send the data using Open Hub u will find the options like FF,Otherparty,etcc...).
2. As you mentioned if you have option to upload the data to Table.Then you can load and u can create the Generic DS.
Issues & Concern
            1. Need to think how the data will be poplated(Means how are going to maintain Delta info records table level before
               populating to it)
             2. whether Ztable should be refreshed before updating R/3 report data to Ztable.
Based on the concerns verify your scenario.If everything ok then u can proceed as per u r plan.

Import of Merchandise Hierarchy changes from other system

Good day for everyone!
Can you please help me in this situation:
1. We have two system - SAP and system for master data maintenance (call it MD).
2. Merchandise Hierarchy structure creates in SAP and migrates to MD system.
3. All changes we want to make in MD system (creating/changing/deleting hierarchy nodes, hierarchy reorganization, creating/changing/deleting attributes for hierarchy nodes) and then pass it in SAP.
Are there any standard instruments in SAP that can allow to transfer all making changes for Merchandise Hierarchy in MD system to SAP (reports, FM and so on)? Maybe anyone have experience with similar situation? I hope for help! Thank you for answers!

The sceanrio is distribution from the sending system. Standard transactions and ALE support transfer of Merchandise Category Hierarchy (MCH) and dependant objects (characteristics and values, for example).
There are four message types that will be sent: W_WGRP, CHRMAS, CLFMAS, and CLSMAS. MCH objects have dependencies and therefore the sequence of these messages must be controlled, which requires the addition of a fifth message type: SERDAT.
It is important to understand that IDoc Serialization using message types is used when several different message types are dependent on each other, as is the case here. For example, if a merchandise category is assigned to a merchandise category hierarchy level, the merchandise category hierarchy level must first exist.
For this reason, the message types are grouped together in a serialization group, in which the processing sequence is defined. There is a standard serialization group for this purpose: GRP_W_WGRP.
Use the following path to configure inbound processing:
SALE > Modeling and Implementing Business Processes > Master Data Distribution > Serialization for Sending and Receiving Data > Serialization Using Message Types > Define Inbound Processing
Here is an outline of the steps:
1. SALE - Configuration of Serialization of IDoc processing
2. SM59 – Create RFC destination
3. WE21 – Create an RFC Port
4. BD64 – Create Distribution Model
5. WE20 – Create Outbound Partner Profile
6. WE20 – Create Inbound Partner Profile
7. WGSE – ALE MCH Objects
Please also take note of the following standard reports:
RBDSER01 creates the IDocs for a serialization group.
RBDSER02 dispatches the IDocs belonging to a serialization group.
RBDSER03 checks whether all the IDocs have been successfully sent to the receiving system. If they have, a control message of message type SERDAT is sent to the receiving system and posts the serialization group there.
RBDSER04 is for processing of inbound IDocs of a serialization group can be directly started by the Report RBDSER04.
You will want to also consider maintaining Reference Articles in the sending system and distribution of Reference Articles using ALE too. This is because Reference Articles are assigned to the Merchandise Category. The standard transaction for this is BD10.
In addition to the manual transactions and reports, change pointers can also be used to distribute the master data.

Hi Sanjay,
Another potential solution, to avoid changing authorisation:
Create a new transaction, based on the standard one. Add some coding to restrict access based on a table (you will need some ABAP coding here).
You can then develop your own logic.
For sure you need to give access to the new transaction and remove access from the standard one (check first feasibilty with your authorisation team)

ABAP report to run other ABAP reports dynamically

I'm looking for an standard SAP or commercial solution ABAP Report that completely or partially meet the following requirements:
The report must start ABAP reports on the system and write the result in files on the SAP server.
       * The reports that must be started are not defined before, thus a kind of parameter file with the list of reports to be started.
       * Most of the reports have 1 selection screens. The value of the selection screens can/must be specified in the parameter file.
       * Most of the reports started have a list as a result. No interaction is required.
       * Authorization of the user that started the report can and must be used.
It must be executable on every basis release of SAP R/3 e.g. basis 4.6x, 4.7 single code page (+MDMP) & unicode and SAP ECC.
Does anybody have an idea if such an ABAP report exists?

I don't think it is so. I mean, currently we have a hard coded solution. In this solution the calling report requests the called report to send its output to the spool. When finished the calling report retrieves the output of the report from the spool and write it into a file.
The problem is taht we do not have time and ressource to implement a fully dynamic solution on our own
