Unable to add File Server Resource Manager Tools on Windows Server 2012 - Errors on restart and roll back install

Unable to install Windows Server 2012 Feature -  [Tools] File Server Resource Manager Tools.
Installs, however when I restart the server error messages appears saying feature unable to install, windows reverting changes.
In the Setup event logs have the following information message "Update FSRM-Infrastructure of package FSRM-All failed to be turned on. Status: 0x800f0922"
Does anyone have any idea's on why this Feature can not be installed ??
Scott

Hi Shaun
Tried both of your suggestions, however neither strategy worked.
Strategy 1
Tried installing via powershell - "install-windowsfeature -name fs-resource-manager -includemanagementtools"
Feature un-installed itself during the restart.
Attempted to use the command "DISM /online /remove-feature /featurename:FSRM-Infrastructure-Services".  However
this did work because one the Service was'nt installed or two because there was no command option for "/remove-feature"
PACKAGE SERVICING COMMANDS:
/Add-Package            - Adds packages to the image.
/Remove-Package         - Removes packages from the image.
/Enable-Feature         - Enables a specific feature in the image.
/Disable-Feature        - Disables a specific feature in the image.
/Get-Packages           - Displays information about all packages in the image.
/Get-PackageInfo        - Displays information about a specific package.
/Get-Features           - Displays information about all features in a package.
/Get-FeatureInfo        - Displays information about a specific feature.
/Cleanup-Image          - Performs cleanup and recovery operations on the image.
Strategy 2
Tried installing via powershell, using the following command DISM
/online /enable-feature /featurename:FSRM-Infrastructure-Services, however got the same result, the install backed out during the restart.
All up back to where I started?

  • File Server Resource Manager will not load WMI Objects on Windows 8.0/8.1 Preview with Hyper-V and Server Tools Loaded

    Hi Folks,
I have a problem getting "File Server Resource Manager" to start properly because WMI objects are not loading??? I don't understand this at all because I am able to access them with other Apps, etc. I have been over my Services list as well but
have not yet discovered which Service turns on/off "File Server Resource Manager". I have looked in Windows\System32\ and I can not find SrmSvc. I found other Srm's there though. I also found the FSRM Snapin which generates the Figure below but I
can not find it in the WMI Browser. I believe the Firewall is OKAY since I have been over that thoroughly. I do have the Server Tools Installed for Windows 8.0 or Windows 8.1 Clients as well as the Windows Updates applied, which is where I got "File Server
Resource Manager" in the first place. I have had WMI and Powershell 3.0 Package, installed since Windows 7 but I run a repair on them anyway.
I have read through "File Server Resource Manager could not load WMI objects on Windows Server 2012
Article ID: 2831687" but since I don't seem to have SrmSvc the solution doesn't help me. I haven't been able to find a similar one for the Windows Client.
If there is anything you could share on this problem I would be much obliged.
    Thanks again,

    Hi,
When we schedule a new job, we add a scheduled task to the c:\windows\tasks folder.
The scheduled task will contain the following command line
    "c:\WINDOWS\system32\storrept.exe reports generate /scheduled /Task:"FSRM_Report_Task{GUID.......}"
There is also a folder on the system drive
    C:\StorageReports\Scheduled
We Also store information in the system volume information folder in the following files:
    c:\system Volume Information\SRM\Settings\ReportSettings.xml (we use .old and .alt extentions}
    c:\system Volume Information\SRM\reports\reportX.xml (where X = an incrementing number set, in writing to these files, we also use .old and .alt extentions}
When experiencing issues relating to scheduled report jobs, you will want to examine these files and check for NTFS permissions issues on these locations also.
Make sure you check the volume that you will be running the report on.

  • File server resource manager. Block file types based on size

I have a site where our users appear to be saving some pretty huge TV quality video files (usually .MOV, and usually over 900MB in size) to our file storage server.  The
concern I have is that such large files are going to fill up our server we will run out of space .
I don't want to blanket block smaller (less than 30MB) .MOV video files from being saved
to the drive, so would like to know if there's any feature in the File server resource manager that can block file type based on size.
If it's not possible, then could someone please suggest this as a future feature of FSRM as I'm sure there are plenty of companies out there who face the same problem as me.
    thanks,

    Hi,
We could not block file types based on size by using FSRM. As a workaround you could use disk quotas on NTFS Volumes which are tracked on a per-user.
To apply disk quotas to existing volume users, add new quota entries in the Quota Entries window. Please understand that it will take you some time to add all users into the list.
It will allow administrators to control the amount of data that each user can store on an NTFS file system volume.
For more detailed information about disk quotas on NTFS Volumes, you could refer to the article below:

    Hi there,
I'd like to know if there is a posibility to use variables in the path with File Server Resource Manager if you want to set the quota.

  • AD FS on 2012 R2 Server Core - management tools

So it seems in 2012 R2, AD FS is now able to be installed in Server Core, I'm assuming because it's no longer part of IIS. However, managing it on Server Core seems "limited" to the use of PowerShell.  This is ok but a GUI option from a
client would be nice too.  Does anyone know a way to have the MMC snap-in for AD FS on a remote client for management purposes?

    Hi,
According to this ms article, i am not find the ad fs is not available on windows server 2012r2 server core:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/hh831786
    Regards.
    Vivian Wang
No, you can indeed installed ADFS on 2012 R2 Server Core - I did it.  The problem was that the GUI management tools (obviously) aren't available on a pure Server Core install and there doesn't appear to be the ability to use the MMC Add-In from
a client so you're "stuck" using PowerShell to manage it on the ADFS server.
Using PowerShell to manage it isn't a big deal, but as I'm learning about ADFS, I figured a GUI element would be nice to confirm what I've done in PowerShell translated properly to what the various guides give.  Arguably, learning on a full GUI server
would have been the better option but, I'm stretched for resources in my Lab environment so this VM needed to consume less resources - which is why I went with Server Core.
Anyway, to get around this, I installed the feature "Graphical Management Tools and Infrastructure."  The server is still Server Core, but it now has the ability to run MMC on the server itself, which means I now have the GUI ADFS management
    tool on the server itself.
Hopefully for future releases, there will be an ADFS management tool included with the Remote Administration Toolkit

  • Administrators unable to write to a text file created by another Administrator on Windows Server 2008.

Why are Administrators unable to write to a text file created by another Administrator on Windows Server 2008?
--- The Administrators already have full control so how do I fix this? ---
Example:  On a Windows Server 2008 (SP1): user A (who belongs to the Administrators group) logs in and creates a directory C:\foo and creates a file readme.txt in the foo directory.  User B (also a member of the Administrators group) logs in and opens C:\foo\readme.txt in notepad. User B types something and tries to save the file. User B cannot save the file…an option to save as some other file name is presented. The security permissions of C:\foo\readme.txt show that Administrators have full control.
Work around 1: Explicitly add user B to have full control over the foo directory. The problem is that all the all other Administrators still need to be added (current and future).
Work around 2: Change the Users security permission to be full control on the foo directory. (this seems dangerous!)
It is interesting to not that this same procedure is not a problem in Windows Vista. (Any insight about the difference?)
    Sincerely,
    Ian

so there is no way to change this without literally shutting down the UAC?
I have files that  I need to modify all the time, and it is very annoying to have to save as to my desktop modify and then copy and paste the file again.
I would also rather not give myself permissions to the entire C:\ Drive even specified Folders or documents, etc......
You can change these settings without bringing down the UAC

  • Silent Install Exchange 2010 SP2 RU7 Management Tools On Windows 7?

We already have Exchange 2010 SP2 RU7 running on a server. We would like to automate deploying the management tools to the Windows 7 workstations of admins that use the console.
Would a batch file with these commands work when run on a Windows 7 SP1 workstation?
    dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-WebServerRole
    dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-WebServerManagementTools
    dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-IIS6ManagementCompatibility
    dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-Metabase
    dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-LegacySnapIn
    Setup /r:MT
How can we deploy the management tools to the workstations with SP2 and RU7 already installed so we don't have to do a separate step of installing the service pack and rollup after doing the base install?

    Hi,
First, please make sure the Windows 7 version is 64-bit version. When you create a batch file, you should specify the shared Exchange setup file, you can refer to the following thread.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e3023a7f-dd70-44c5-94c8-528d8eb1a8a1/silent-install-of-exchange-2010-mangement-tools-sp2?forum=mdt
After you have installed Exchange Management Tool on Windows 7, please always ensure you install any Exchange Service Pack which is the same with Exchange server on the PC running EMC.

  • Unable To Execute Files In The Temporary Directory. Setup Aborted. Error 5: Access Is Denied.

    Hi Everyone,
Whenever I install some new software in my new laptop I get this error:-
Unable To Execute Files In The Temporary Directory. Setup Aborted. Error 5: Access Is Denied.
I have tried synchronizing the clocks but it doesn't remove the problem.
These softwares work on another laptop that i have, which also runs windows 7.
Can someone please tell me the solution as this is extremely urgent.
    Thanks In Advance.
    -Michael

    In short:
    ============
My permissions were all fine, so if anyone has trouble resolving the issue after sorting permissions then make sure you try fully disabling your anti-virus / anti-spyware / firewall applications, because that was the cause for me.
    In detail:
    ============
    Problem:
    Failed to install this application
    - http://www.ssware.com/cryptoobfuscator/download.htm
    - on Windows 8.1 x64
    - Get error message "Unable To Execute Files In The Temporary Directory. Setup Aborted. Error 5: Access Is Denied."
    First Candidate Solution
The issue turns out to NOT be security rights on the Temp folder
ESET Smart Security HIPS Advanced Memory Scanner is the cause
    http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2908&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1392804914417
Instead, I went and turned off all the ESS protections one by one and it turned out to be HIPS that is causing this false positive.
In fact, it is the Advanced Memory Scanner option under HIPS that is causing the error, while the application in question is legit (using Inno Setup and presumably trying to write to the user temp folder, not sure whether just logs or to execute from there)
Furthermore, Smart Security logs have no entries under HIPS even though I ticked "Log all blocked operations" under the HIPS "Advanced setup" - it was quite a journey to find out the cause :)
Thank you. I have the same OS and installed ESET Smart Security as well. And it is resolved now.
I just want to add, that by "Temporarily disable protection" and "Temporarily disable firewall", it doesn't work. You have to disable HIPS, as KristjanL said.

  • Management Pack for Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP1

    Hello,
I tried to manage the performance of a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP1 (6.0.6001) but SCOM 2007 R2 just check the availability with a ping status.
I have installed the normal management packs:
On the same SCOM, I have servers with Windows Server 2008 R2 and they work perfect.
    What can I do?

    Hi Journey Tinoco,
Performance can be monitored by using the active alerts TAB where a alert / alerts will be triggered based on the default management pack which you have installed / imported or if you have created a custom monitor based on your preference on what performance
counter you want to monitor on windows server 2008 servers VIA SCOM.
Or you can pull server performance report specific for Windows server 2008 from the reporting TAB as per the below screen shot for details.
The one which you are opened is the health explorer view which is not showing much details.
Go to reporting TAB ===> Select Windows server 2008 operating system monitoring and then What ever appropriate report you need to pull based on your requirement. For example i have pulled a report below for "Operating system performance.
Over here Click object and select the computer name and the icon should be a Windows serve / Computer as per the icon in my screen shot below. Select the time and date from and to the report you want and dont touch the add object option. Once done click
the Run button on the left to you will get the report as below.
Please note: If the below report is what you are looking for is not available in your SCOM's  reporting TAB. Then you have not installed the reporting Management pack for Windows server 2008 monitoring. Download
    it from the below link.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=9296
    Hope this helps you.

  • Adobe Update Server Setup Tool on Windows Server 2012 and IIS 8 ?

can you help me install and configure my internal AUSST on the new server OS provided by Microsoft (Windows Server 2012)?
What should be the parameters required (or mandatory) in IIS 8 (ISAPI Filters, etc ...) ?
What parameters in the installation of IIS should be chosen?
What are the steps necessary to implement this new operating system?

Our enterprise also uses an authenticated proxy, so I've been banging my head to get this working!
I'm surprise to learn of this proxy oversight!  This tool has "enterprise" all over the documentation (e.g. AAMEE?).  There's good likelihood that other enterprises (still) have proxies in place.  Makes me wonder if the CreativeCloud architects had this same proxy-ignorant oversite?
    @Abhishek
Can you pass this request onto Jody Rogers or Karl Gibson (or whomever "owns" Adobe Enterprise Deployment products)?
I can pass the following curl switches and get out of our authenticated proxy; why can't you make AdobeUpdateServerSetupTool2.0 honor these curl options?
[Note: this example assumes Mac OS X or other Unix-y OSes]
    curl --proxy myproxy.domain.com:port --proxy-user ADserviceAccount http://swupmf.adobe.com/webfeed/oobe/aam10/win/updaterfeed.xml
BTW: why does "mac" in xml feed return so much more info?
    curl --proxy myproxy.domain.com:port --proxy-user ADserviceAccount http://swupmf.adobe.com/webfeed/oobe/aam10/mac/updaterfeed.xml

  • Workflow Manager Configuration Issue Windows Server 2012 R2 / SQL 2014

    Hello All,
Environment:  SharePoint 2013 Enterprise with SP1
    Farm consists of
2 App Server, 2 Web Server and 2 SQL Servers all the server have Windows 2012 R2
OS .  The SQL backend is SQL Server 2014
Installed Workflow manager on the Web server, the configuration ran fine without any errors. Trying to browse the workflow management site via IIS Manager encountered Certificate Error clicked Continue to this website which gives a HTTP 403 Forbidden and
    following detail message
This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage.
Checked the web site Workflow Management Site in the IIS manager which has only one folder bin . I was not able to submit the Screenshot
I have installed the latest patch for the Workflow manager and the Service Bus
    Question I have
Should there be more folder under the Workflow Management Site.
Why is the Web site not showing the web page
Is workflow manager supported for Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL 2014
    Thanks
    Dhanraj

    Hi Dhanraj,
I captured the screenshot from my IIS Manager on workflow server. There is only bin folder under Workflow Management site
If I browser workflow host uri from IIS Manager
https://localhost:12290, I received certification error, and I chose the continue to this website, it returned me as follow:
From the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2902007/en-us It is supported on Windows Server 2012 r2 if you have install latest update.
Here is an article which talks about error:
    http://www.sp2013blog.com/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=36
In addition, here is the reference for troubleshooting workflow manager 1.0 management:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj193529(v=azure.10).aspx#AnalyzingWorkflowManagementLogs
You could also open SharePoint Designer 2013 and see if you could create a workflow on platform 2013.
