Unable to Capture Footage! Please Help.

Hey guys,
I am having trouble getting Final Cut Pro to recognize the camera I am trying to capture off of. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Here are all my stats:
Final Cut 5
Camera: Sony DCR-VX2000
Connection: Firewire
Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz Anamorphic
Capture Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz Anamorphic
Device Control Preset: Firewire NTSC Basic
When I open Log and Capture I get this message: "Unable to initialize video deck. You may still log offline clips or use Capture Now."
Any advice you could offer me would be greatly appreciated.

Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you're using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime you are using.
Do not us FireWire Basic. That's for Canon cameras.

When I open up Log and Capture everything is working fine except the screen is black and it wont capture? VTR is ok and when I press play it plays on my Camera lcd panel but not on FCP.

In 'log and capture' the (capture settings) only provides a scratch disk option and nothing else? I have seen on tutorials that show alternative options on this toggle. This might be the problem.
Practically all is working fine except It wont capture. When asking it to capture "clip" it begins to work but the screen is blank and it sort of thinks its doing the job but its not?

Unable to Capture Footage, File Error: Unknown file

Alright, I've been at it for hours trying to figure out what the heck is going on. I have been able to capture footage before but not with this version.
-I have already repaired disk permissions twice, ran disk warrior also.
-I have it on the basic DV NTSC Setting, which worked perfectly on the laptop, but I need to edit this project on the tower.
-Have been through numerous settings and no go.
-I can control the deck/camera but it will not control the camera when trying to capture
Running Final Cut Pro HD 5 completely updated with the most recent software.
Need some help, this project cant be delayed this long.

Composition size not matching footage-Please help

Hi I am really hoping someone can help me with such a basic problem. I open up After Effects CS4, then import a video clip which has dimensions of 1440x1080. Then I drag the clip onto the new composition icon which is SUPPOSED to create a composition with the same parameters as the footage. But instead the footage is the wrong aspect ratio and appears to be squashed into a 4:3 box (or so it appears)

Here's where I'm getting confused right now
My video was shot out of the camera at 1440x1080. That is a 4:3 ratio
If I render it to 720x480, this would be a 3:2 ratio. Wouldn't that distort my video?
You stated that if I wanted to keep my work at 16:9 that I should render to NTSC DV Widescreen but I didn't think I was ever at 16:9. Wouldn't that be 1920x1080?
Since I thought my video was shot in HD would rendering to DV minimize the quality?
"Nest your current comp in the new comp" Should I make a new composition in After Effects using a different format?
"Render in a lossless codec in AE" My clip in After Effects was actually only about one minute long. I am using that clip in a Premier Pro project that is about 15 minutes long. I saved the .aep project and then imported it to Premier without rendering it. Then I was going to render the entire 15 minute project all at once. Should I do this differently?
Should I do as Rick stated above and create a new composition in 1920x1080? If I do wouldn't that leave two black bars on either side?
As I'm typing this I'm realizing that my entire Premier Pro project is the actual size of the video 1440x1080 so I'm not sure how I would create a new comp there.

Capture problems please help

I was using FCE 1.0, an old Mitsubishi U70 twin digital SVHS VCR with S-video out cables, a Canopus ADVC-55 converter and my G4 running OS 10.3.9. I was able to capture just fine. Then I upgraded. I upgraded to FCE HD and Quicktime v.7. Now I cannot capture using FCE HD. I can however capture using iMovie 3.03.
I am getting a warning when loading FCE-HD: "Unable to locate the following external devices: Apple Firewire (720x480)"
When I continue and finish launching the app I go into easy setup and select DV NTSC DV Converter. When I hit the setup button I get the same message as above and it asks if I want to continue but set the external device selection to none. I have tried selecting both of the Firewire Basic settings for NTSC but when I do and then attempt to capture FCE quits.
I have disconnected all cables, turned on and off decks and restarted computers. Nothing seems to be working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just recently created my own custom Document Panel in InfoPath. I uploaded it into a custom content type. I applied this to a document library and it is the standard document panel for creating a new document within that document library. When I click
"New document" I get this error..

According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred when opening a document from SharePoint.
Is this document information panel customized?
I recommend to re-edit the document information panel template to see if the issue still occurs.
Please go to the Library setting > click the corresponding content type(need to enable managed of content types in Advanced settings) > click Document Information Panel settings.
If the issue still occurs, please check if the command below can help(change the site URL and the library name in the code):

DVCPro HD Varicam Footage, PLEASE HELP

Hello,
I am in a bit of a tricky situation and I hope someone can help. I have 6 hours of 24p Varicam footage captured into final cut and its already been edited into a sequence. However, as I just received this footage and sequence, I realized that it was all captured at 59.94 fps and the extra frames were NOT dropped. I guess the person who captured it forgot to tick the little box that says to remove the extra frames. So now I have all 60 frames, which are simply duplicates of the 24 that the camera actually recorded.
At first I thought I could use cinema tools to remove the cadence and render out the true 24p footage for myself. However, when I opened the clips in cinema tools, the button was greyed out and I couldn't do it.
I then thought I would try it in final cut pro (version 5). So I highlighted a clip, went to tools, remove advanced pulldown. A message popped up saying that it couldn't remove the advanced pulldown because the footage I have is not DV25 or DV50.
I then thought I could recapture the footage and it would hopefully match up to the timeline. However, when I looked at my capture settings, the box that you tick says "remove 2:3:3:2 advanced pulldown from DV25 and DV50 footage". I found an article with screen captures of the correct settings to use for DVCPro HD Varicam footage and this message should say "remove extra frames etc.." but should make no mention of DV25 or DV50 footage.
What is up with that? Am I missing something? I used the DVCPro HD 720/24p easy setup? Any thoughts?

First off let me just warn you about Cinema Tools. DO NOT conform your footage to a new frame rate. This will make your problem worse. The Remove Pulldown feature relies on fields and won't help here either.
I have posted a few topics on this exact subject over the past several months. Unfortunately, the forum archives are not very deep here.
In short, there is no easy way to fix your problem without recapturing using the FCP DVCProHD 24P capture preset. For me, recapturing using the Final Cut DVCProHD wasn't a good option since I rented the deck and didn't budget a second rental to recapture.
In my experience, the suggestions I've seen posted so far are not going to fix your footage cadence. Placing such footage in a DVCProHD 24FPS sequence will result in strobing and studdering.
Here's one of my older posts relating to the topic, although in this post, my problem was compounded by the fact that I attempted to conform the footage to 24P, only to find that the new version of Cinema Tools wouldn't let me return it to 60P. Here' how I got it back to 60P:

After getting the footage back to 60P (which is what you have now) I had to import the footage into After Effects and place it in a 24FPS composition enabling frame blending. I then rendered all the footage from AE and replaced it in Final Cut. What a pain! It was the only way I could find to get rid of the strobic effect caused by the odd cadence.
Although it didn't work for me in that incident (since all my meddling removed the Panasonic tags from the footage) there is a tool that could fix this for you without recapturing, although I'm convinced it would probably take longer than a simple recapture. Panasonic has a free FCP plugin on their Varicam support page that allows FCP to deal with redundant frame removal. It works well one clip at a time, but in my experience messes up the audio (actually deletes audio to be precise). The tool is mostly intended for slow-mo stuff where audio isn't really necessary. You can use this tool, then re-apply the audio tracks through the Add feature of QuickTime Player, or by manually re-applying audio tracks and exporting in Final Cut.
Recapturing is the simplest solution. Just take the footage offline, then recapture the clips using the correct FCP DVCProHD 24P preset rather than the 60P one. Unless you have Timecode Breaks or Cadence errors in the footage itself (I regularly get both) this should work.

I don't understand capture cards - PLEASE HELP

I've seen other posts that dance around this, but what I want to know is ... what exactly does a capture card do and when do you need it? I'm about to edit a feature to be shot on the panasonic hvx200. We will transfer the p2 cards into my G5 each night. From what I understand, Final Cut 5 allows you to transfer the p2 files directly into the project. So, my second question is this: can I edit 1080p footage on my G5 and play back the sequence in full screen on my 23 inch HD monitor and get a true high def image? Or, do I need additional equipment. Thanks for the help!

For your workflow, or the DVCPRO HD workflow for that matter, does not require a capture card. With the P2 cards, you just transfer the footage. If you shot with the Varicam, then you can capture via firewire with the use of a DVCPRO HD deck. No cards needed.
Capture cards are required for footage that cannot be captured via firewire: BetaSP, Digibeta, HDCam, D5, VHS, 3/4".
With your 23" monitor on it's own, you can preview the footage with Digital Cinema Desktop, but that won't be a "true HD image." For a true HD image you will need to either route thru a Panasonic 1200HD deck, or use a capture card (Kona 2, Kona LHe, Decklink HD, Decklink Multibridge) and use an HD SDI>DVI converter box to route to a SECOND 23" monitor for a "close" to true HD image. The only way to get a true HD image is to use an HD monitor.

Recipients of images sent direct from iPhoto are unable to open them, please help

When I send images in an e-mail direct from iPhoto recipients are unable to access them as they do not arrive as jpegs. Please give me a clue how I can remedy this.

Perseverance pays off. I have found that I need to export the images I require into a folder in Pictures and this ensures they are jpegs and can be opened by my recipients. Hope this reply helps others or am I just a slow learner!!

Log and capture freezes - please help

I'm using FCP 5 (studio). on G5 dual 2GH 1GB.
it has become a nightmare to log and capture. after few minutes from working with log and capture the applications freezes. I have to force quit FCP.
I trashed the preferences once, I re-installed, but the same thing is happening. I'm working on 2 projects, deadline is approaching.
I appreciate any helpful responses.

Are you trying to record three video streams simultaneously? Or by a video amplifier, you mean a video switcher?
If you are using Capture Now, make sure you have set a capture limit. This is why:
When you use log and capture, the disk system is being asked by FCP to essentially "keep capturing until we tell you to stop ... and no, we don't know HOW much that will be either." It is stressful on the system to be continually wandering around looking for space to stuff those ones and zeros with out any sense of how many they have to accommodate. One solution available to the system is to allocate the ENTIRE empty space on the disk as the potential capture file. This essentially locks the machine as there is no headroom for basic disk operations.
However if you set a limit on capture now, say 60 minutes, the disk system can allocate the space and may seem to be less confused by the process. It still does not know EXACTLY how much you want, but it knows you will not want MORE THAN the limit and therefor can reduce some of the uncertainty.
Better yet is to record to a timecode addressable tape. This allows you to log the tape, then use batch capture. When you do this, the system knows EXACTLY how much space to allocate for each file and is very efficient.

Unable to upgrade iTunes -- please help!

I am having trouble upgrading to iTunes 9.0.2
It comes up with a message saying something along the lines of:
the older version of itunes cannot be removed, please contact tech support
contacting tech support is unfortunately even more long-winded than copying all my music into a new folder, manually deleting all reminents of my old iTunes and then downloading the newest iTunes, so if anyone's got any ideas about what's causing this to happen or any way to fix the problem in a simple way, then all help is greatly appreciated

Doublechecking the nature of your problem, nikki. Prior to that message, do you also see one saying that the "itunes.msi" file cannot be found?

Yes. You can't update or restore any GSM iPhone without a valid sim card installed in the phone. The sim card need not be activated, but it must be valid & present. If you want to update, you need to get a sim card.

I installed a theme on OS X Lion that was actually made for snow leapor, because on a youtube video someone said it works with Lion too,

Okay, it's both for your first question: When I import the songs to the library, the songs are not in the correct order as they were on the CD. And, in the process of my importing the songs, the library scrambles the songs in different sections of the library (I explain further below)
I don't know what you mean by "little triangle" pointing up or down. What's that got to do with the price of fish in China? lol
When I get the music in the library the songs come out sorted this way: 2 songs from CD 1 appear one section of the library, then 1 song from CD 2 appears in the next column, along with the album work. Then, I go down farther, and there's a few more of the songs from CD 1 in the next section. I go down again, and maybe 2 or 3 songs are in that column. Along with the artwork for that CD. Then I scroll down again in the library, and there's maybe 3 or 4 songs from CD 1 there. Get the picture? It keeps sorting the songs in that order. And yes, the CDs I was importing were compliation dance CDs, along with some from the same artist, like Barry Manilow.
