Unable to completely delete songs on iphone or itunes

Hello.  I have read many threads that detail what to do if your iphone (4S) has duplicate songs and have tried to follow the instructions.  This is where I've ended up....
I have been able to delete, by swiping right to left on each song on my phone, most of the duplicates.  However, there are a few of them where three songs show the same name...some being black and others grey...and if I attempt to swipe the blacked song to delete it nothing happens except that the song begins to play.  The greyed ones will also play but none will let me swipe to delete.
When I go to my music library on itunes I see two things.  The cell phone library shows the same as the phone...duplicates in grey of the ones I was unable to manually delete on my phone.  However, on the main music library I see only singles of each song.  I go to VIEW and SHOW DUPLICATES and no duplicates pop up.  WHen I sync to my library however all the duplicates come back and I have to re-delete.  I do not use itunes match and it shows as off, by the way.  Also, it seems as if the sync never stops.  I continually have the "Copying items..." at the top.  Could this be why some of the duplicates are still greyed out though playable?  I feel that I should be able to swipe them if all of the duplicates are black.
On my music syncing if I Choose entire library (thinking that since it shows no duplicates on the main library I'm good) then I still get duplicates on my phone.  If I show selected artists and albums the same thing happens.  One post suggested to go to the main library and only check the songs that one wants to avoid downloading duplicates.  Since there are no duplicates showing on my main library this won't work for me.  They are all single, all checked, but my phone after the download still shows duplicates most of which remain greyed out and therefore can't be manually deleted.
I feel as if I'm driving on a complicated roundabout (thinking Chevy Chase European Vacation here "Big Ben, Parliament") and I really would like to take the exit OFF.
Thanks!

I also wanted to add that syncing never ends.  Not sure why that is happening either.

You can't merge accounts. But you can check your purchase history:

The Messages app is a built in application. It can't be deleted. You could move it to a folder or to the last home page so that you don't have to look at it.

  • Why can I delete songs from iPhone if they return when synced??

Why is there an option to delete songs from iPhone if it dosn't really delete them?? When you delete songs from the iPhone it will put them right back in as soon as you press sync. The only way around it is to manage you music manually witch is allot harder and now when you delete from iPhone it won't sync them back in but you now don't know what you removed. So you won't be able to put them back in unless you put back to auto and put all songs back in. What should happen is when you sync with pc the songs you removed from iPhone should automatically be unmarked so they are not synced back in and you know what you have deleted. Why is this so hard for apple to do!!!!!?????

  • I'm unable to completely download the latest iphone software verison 5.0.1 with itunes 10.5.2.11, downloading fails with 100kb left (err = -3259).

    Hello,
I'm unable to completely download the latest iphone software verison 5.0.1 with itunes 10.5.2.11, downloading fails with 100kb left (err = -3259). Any suggestion on how to resolve this? I manually cleaned the DNS cached as well as directly connecting my pc to the cable modem instead of the router.

Thank you for your response.  But unfortunately there's no Apple Genius Bar here in Malaysia.  Only resellers, which I feel that they are charging way too much in the first place.

  • Can we copy back songs from iPhone to iTunes library, once if deleted from iTunes library ?

can we copy back songs from iPhone to iTunes library, once if deleted from iTunes library ?

Have you not got a backup of your content ? iTunes will only copy back purchases that you made from Apple. For music from other sources you will need to find a program from another source which can copy them back from the phone - if you do a search on google you might find some. Or depending from where you got them from can you re-download them from those sites ?

  • Deleting songs on iphone and iPad

How do I delete songs on iphone/Ipad that are not shown in the connected itunes music list ?  These songs are not in icloud. Swiping left to right does not work.

Tried a different scenario, but included your suggestion: luckely I have all the music and video files on my iMac, so I went to Settings > General > Usage > which comes up with all pgms and apps > swiped on Music from right to left > delete button appears > delete. That took care for most of the music rcds. Any remaining ones I downloaded the same songs from my iMac, now they appeared in the iTunes list and could get deleted.
Similar procedure with videos, only that you need to delete them one-by-one. All that exercise took approx 15/20 min, now everythink looks clean again without reset the iPad and iPhone. But that procedure only works if you have the music and videos stored somewhere. Thnx FalCatkin for your input.

  • I can't delete songs from iphone

For some reason I can't fathom I can't delete music from my iPhone in iTunes. I manually manage my songs and usually I hit the delete button and the album/songs will be removed from my phone. All that happens now when I do this is when I hit the delete button it scrolls to the last album on my phone.
Also when I try this in iTunes the same thing happens, I can only delete songs/albums from my iTunes library by right clicking and selecting delete (an option I don't have when trying to delete songs from my iPhone)
Can anybody help? I am running iTunes 10.4 on OS Lion on a Macbook Pro, with iPhone 4. I've tried reinstalling iTunes and retoring my phone from a previous back up. Didn't work.

You have posted to the iTunes Match forum which your question is not related to. You will get better support responses by posting to either the Using iPhone or the appropriate iTunes forum.

  • Any way to transfer songs from iPhone TO iTunes on MacBook Pro?

I'm an idiot.  I'm just going to say that up front.  I feel that's fair for all who venture here.
I've had a terrible time with an update..and I wasn't able to get iTunes to acknowledge/recognize my iPhone or iPod once I ran and installed the current update.  While trying to get my iPhone/iPod to be recognized, I did a lot of removing/uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes.  During this mess.....I somehow DELETED MY ENTIRE iTunes LIBRARY!!!  The whole thing.  I have no idea how.
I thought I had been backing up....and thought I had Time Machine so I was safe.  I was wrong.  I won't even ask about Time Machine here....I've already disclosed I'm an idiot.
I am finally able to get iTunes to acknowledge my iPhone.  Thank goodness.  But, now......I have Songs and Playlists on my iPhone that aren't on iTunes.
Is there any way to transfer songs from iPhone TO iTunes?
    Thanks!

how to get purchased song from iphone to itunes on computer

Open itunes, connect iphone, Click File>Transfer Purchases

  • Is there a way to transfer songs fron iphone to itunes

is there a way to transfer songs from iphone to itunes

"The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases"
There is no way to transfer non-iTunes purchases from an iDevice to iTunes without using third party software.
It has always been very basic to maintain a backup of one's computer and the important data on it for events like this.  If a backup existed, it would be a simple matter of copying the content from the backup to the new computer.

  • IPhone won't completely delete songs in iTunes (corrupted files?)

    Hey guys,
I've been working on this issue for nearly two days now, and I just have no idea of how to fix it. The issue: in iTunes, my iPhone says I have multiple albums/songs on the phone, despite me trying multiple times to delete them, and despite them not actually appearing on my phone. These are all songs that have been purchased, and are on the cloud. On my actual iPhone screen, the songs don't appear at all, since I deleted them. But when I plug my phone into my computer, in my iTunes, the songs remain - they're just dimmed, with dotted circles on the left of them. My goal is to have all of these songs deleted from the iPhone altogether, and have that appear both on the phone and in iTunes. It seems like these are corrupted files, but I have no idea how to get rid of them. This is how my iTunes and my iPhone look, right now.
    I've done the following things:
--I've fooled around with redownloading them from the cloud on the iPhone separate from the computer, then plugging it into my computer to delete them in iTunes. But even after I delete them in iTunes, it constantly brings the files back after I sync.
-I checked and unchecked the items in iTunes, before syncing. It lets me delete them; but again, after I click Sync, the files return.
-I deleted all of the music from my iTunes library, and I turned off the Manually Manage Music option, so that the iPhone would sync with the iTunes and delete everything from the phone. The result was all the music on the iPhone being deleted...except these straggling files that I'm having this issue with.
Does anyone have any other tips? I don't want to reset to factory settings because I have a couple work apps on the phone that I can't find links to to redownload them. And the iPhone managing apps are not an option; I can't download apps on this computer. I've been troubleshooting online, but I'm not sure if I'm just doing some of these things incorrectly. Can anyone help me?

I've reset it - erased all content and settings - and they're still there! Though I restored it from the Cloud. Not sure if that would influence it.

  • Delete songs from iPhone automatically added from Cloud

I have an iPhone 4.  Prior to the Cloud, when I added songs to my phone from my computer, I added them manually.  If I bought songs through the phone, I could shift them to my computer if I didn't want them on my phone any longer.  Now, if I buy something through my computer, it automatically shows up on my phone.  I have since changed the cloud settings so that it doesn't do this but now I can't get a bunch of songs off my iPhone.  I have tried pulling ALL music off the phone (unchecking synch Music) but the cloud-added songs remain.
    Any ideas?

This is becoming a huge file management problem.  The way I see it, the following user flow is the only one allowed by apple.
    1) Turn on iTunes match on desktop/mobile devices.
    2) Meander through massive db of music, adding things to iOS device cache as you play things.  Do this long enough and your entire device disk is full
    3) Note how slow your device runs when the drive is totally full, since it must magically clear some files as more space is needed for things like installing apps, audiobooks, video, etc.
    4) Try to clear up by deleting things on the device (but not from iCloud) one song/artist/album at a time.  Each swipe/delete takes 5-10 seconds due to how unresponsive my iPhone4 has become due to being bursting at the seams.
    5) Alternately, nuke all local music using the Settings app(General>Usage>Storage>Music), but this doesn't let you keep any music you already have on the device, forcing you to then RE-download anything you want back.  NOTE: this doesn't currently work on my device - for some reason that pane is empty and the Edit button doesn't really let me do anything.
Does anyone know of a better system (short of canning iTunes Match in favor of "the good ol' days" method of manually or synch-wise management of music files w/o iTunes Match)?
If not, can we PLEASE get desktop iTunes management of files on the iOS device back when it's connected via synch cable?
This was a hugely powerful way to quickly clear off or swap which playlists are available on the device, and the feature is completely disabled once you turn on iTunes Match.  Horrible user experience to manually delete one file/album at a time (without really knowing how much space you're even freeing up) on the device itself when you're trying to move around 5+GB of music.  I've dinked around with it for 20+ minutes several times now because my phone keeps overflowing with music.

  • Cannot add or delete songs from iPhone Music

As a precursor, I have owned my iPhone for over 3 years and this is the first encounter with this issue:
Since purchasing iTunes Match, I can no longer manage my music on my iPhone.  I can neither add nor delete songs from the phone.  I have over 52G's of music on iTunes and upon synching my phone, itunes indescriminately adds the songs... random songs from random albums.  I've tried to delete the music from my phone, but that option is not permitted (the delete button is grey and not an option).
How can I add (from my iTunes library) and delete music from my iPhone 4?  My synching preferences are checked as Manual for music transfer to my phone, yet I have absolutely no control of adding or deleting music content?
    What am I doing wrong?

When you enable iTunes Match on your phone you can no longer manage your music using iTunes, you have to download it from iCloud.  With iTunes Match, when you play a song it simultaneously downloads in the background.  You can also download complete albums by going to the album and tapping on the cloud download icon.  Unfortunately, at the present time, the only way to delete music once downloaded is to delete all music by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swiping All Music and tapping Delete.  Hopefully they will restore the option to deleted individual songs again in a future update.
