Unable to generate "Export data source" for Master data infoobject

Hi Gurus,
I'm in BW 3.5
I need to generate "Export data source" for a master data info object.
I followed below steps:
I ticked the checkbox "Characterist. is export data source" in the master data Info object maintenance screen.
In the Infosource area, for the desired Infoobject --> Right click --> Generate export datasource --> a dialog box displays saying "The generation of DataSource was successful"
Problem:
Even after refreshing, etc.. I couldn't find the generated datasource 8**** for the above master data. I also tried to replicate the datasource from the myself source system, but couldn't find it even there. I don't know where the generated export data source is hiding ???

Hi Venkat,
I guess that after creating an export datasource for infoobject this DS should appear in the RSA1-Source systems - MYSELF - datasource overview (with name starting with 8). Since it's a datamart, it should appear also as system generated infosource. And in this case you would be able to assign in URs of data target the appropriate infosource (make sure that in Infoproviders tab of RSA1 you have inserted your infoobject as a data target).
However, there are some bugs related to export data source. CHeck if you see you export data source in RSA6.
If you don't see it - consider applying OSS Note #816892 - "30BSP26: Export DS for master data is not generated".
Note #876845 - "30BSP29: InfoObject change: Export DataSource not adjusted" is also may be useful.

Error while creating Data Source for master data attributes

Hi BI Experts,
Well its been some time for me that I have been part of Extraction in BI.I primarily handled reporting in my last assignments.
I was trying extraction with flat files in SAP BI 7(new to sap bi 7 but very much familiar with BW3.5) but failed in the activity during master data attributes and text upload in infoobject (say IOSP_Mat).
Here is the procedure that I did after creation of characteristic IOSP_Mat.I created a source system for flat file followed by data source for Master data attributes, i selected all the parameters correctly.i.e. csv file format, data seperator as ,
and other settings, now when i am trying to look at the proposed data in the next tab using Load example data.its not showing the desired result.The columns that I have maintained in Flat File is MAT_NUMBER and MAT_NAME (with say 100 data in the file)
same is the result when I am trying to load the text data too columns maintained are
(LANGUAGE MAT_NUMBER Short Description)(same 100 data).
now i used to rsa1old transaction to upload the file using 3.5 version.i created info source for master data/text/hierarchies for IOSP_Mat
now when trying to upload it using info package for master and text data,I observe its(the data) not maintained in the characteristic IOSP_Mat.
When I monitored ,I figured the data has not been even uploaded to the PSA level.
Can you BI experts tell me the answer for this.

Data Type field read only in Data source for transaction data (PC_FILE)

Hi folks,
I need to change Data Type for some of the fields in "Field" tab in data source for transactional data. It became read only after I activate the data source. Need help in making it editable. All fields now have Data type=CHAR.

While creating the data sources for transaction data through flat file, I am getting the following error "Error 'The argument '1519,05' cannot be interpreted as anumber' while assigning character to application structure" Message no. RSDS016

just for information.
I had the same problem.
Have changed the field type from CURR to DEC and have set external instead of internal.
Then, the import with flatfile worked fine.

Data source for this data connection isn't registered for Power BI

Hi, I am getting this error when I set Schedule Data Refresh to refresh data from db. How do I register my connection to the data source? Is this a fix on SQL server or Power BI?

I'm running into the same issue, I did configure the Gateway and then the data source in Power Bi.
When I go to the Power BI Admin Center and click on "Test Connection" it seems to be working. But when I refresh the data from Power BI it doesn't work. Now if I edit the spreadsheet in excel and refresh the data in PowerPivot then it works. So
not sure why the solution doesn't refresh from the automated service in Power BI without this useless error.

Also further information I have found so far is that the Gateway is receiving the requests for the refresh and it shows the message below, so the data source is found and communication seems to be happening from server to client and back, not sure why server
doesn't seem to like the data the Gateway is sending back to server.
The feed 'dbo_TableA' was successfully accessed at 7/15/2014 4:23:26 PM.

Data Source for BSEG Data base table

I need to create a data source for the data base table BSEG (Function Module Extraction).
I have followed below steps.
I have created extarct structure which contains all the fields of BSEG Data base table.If I save the data source I am getting error.
If I remove all the currecy fields from extract structure, I am able to activate the data sorce.

Firstly, can you explain why you need a generic extractor for BSEG? There are already 2 datasources for BSEG, they are:

To use 0FI_GL_14, you should use the new GL in ECC side.
On the other hand, for your problem, your problem may occur if you did not give the reference unit field of your currency field in your extraction structure. when you double click the the currency field, you will see the ref. field, give the reference unit field in this area.

Using Oracle Stored Proc as Data Source for PowerBuilder Data Window Object

I'm trying to use an Oracle stored procedure as the data source for a PowerBuilder data window object. I'm using the following (which is a variation of an example given on Sybase's web site, with the appropriate database/column name changes and use of %TYPE):

The package is created okay, but the procedure is saved with compilation errors. Unfortunately, Oracle does not indicate what the errors are (great product), so I have no idea what it is complaining about.
Questions:
1) Can anyone point me to/or provide a better example?
2) The examples in books I have seen all would have declared the procedure in the package specification - is the above valid?
3) This is a PowerBuilder specific question, but if the package does not show up in the stored procedure list when creating a data window object, how does one use it as a data source?

1) Everything looks fine with your code. You did not mention the environment you are compiling your code in, but if it is SQL*Plus, you can type 'show errors' after the compile and it will list the errors and line numbers for you.
2) You can include the procedure in the package - in which case you would have a procedure declaration in the spec and the actual procedure in the body. You would no longer include the 'create or replace' - the declaration and procedure would just start with 'procedure'. The spec would look include:
PROCEDURE sp_dw_example1
(arg_teamid IN st_sa.comcodsa%TYPE,
   cur_team OUT cur_example_cur1);Note the removal of the package reference (since we are now IN the package) and the second parameter is just OUT instead of IN OUT.
3) Not much, but I know that in PB8, our developers have said they have visibility now to the package when creating a DW - something they didn't have in PB7. Previously, we had to create a dummy standalone procedure that they would select and they would later modify the code to include the package prefix.

Data storage for Master data.

Would like to know what is the limit in terms of number of records a master data table can hold or should hold.
If there is a possibility that master data vol will increase very significantly then is it advisable to create an ODS to store the master data vol .....

There is not really any limit for this. Since this is dependent on the database storage space. and especially for master data, it wont exceed as you think.

Infoobject ZWBS_ELEM is an export data source. But I dont see it in infosource area starting with 8. Option diplay generated objects was set to "SHOW".

Data Source Activation - Master data u201CSource Not Activeu201D (Func. Mod. based)

Generated an export data source, message appears that it is u201CSuccessfully generatedu201D. I then selected the logical Source system and u201CReplicated all data sourcesu201D
I checked in RSA2 (data source repository in BI) and it exits.
Now that I am trying to use the generated datasource to load another MasterData Char Attributes, I get the error message u201DSource Not activeu201C, I am trying to create a transformation from 1st infoObjectu2019s export datasource to this object (both are of the same type etc)..
I am aware that we can use the program RSDS_DATASOURCE_ACTIVATE_ALL but this only works if we can see the datasource is RSDS (which I can not for this Datasource, perhaps the reason being that it is Function Module based? )
How else I could activate it? What other steps I should take or anything that can help me?   Please give your suggestions and I will say THANKS the SDN way.

I had the same problem today with an export DataSource generated on a planning area in our production SCM system.
I debugged running RSDS_DATASOURCE_ACTIVATE_ALL in our QA system for the same DataSource amd saw that the program calls function module RSDS_DATASOURCE_COLLECTION_ACT to do the activation. I ran the function module in production using the same parameters.
Our DataSource is 9A_PRG_PA for source system SCP100. I used SE37 to run function module RSDS_DATASOURCE_COLLECTION_ACT with these parameters:
I_T_OBJNM     9A_PRG_PA                     SCP100
I_WITH_CTO
I_CONTEXT     'ACTIVATE_ALL'
I_FORCE                     X
This made an active version of the DataSource appear, and I was then able to run RSDS_DATASOURCE_ACTIVATE_ALL to activate it properly.

Text Data source for Classification Data

Hi BW Gurus, Ajay Das and Kishore helped me very well on this, just last step doubt. In r/3 system I have added the char tYPE AND kyf TYPE CHARACTERISTICS to classification data now it has generated the Classification customer attribute data source 1CL_0CUSBMW01 and I see the text datasources generated afor char type characteristics in /NCTBW such as 1CL_AABMW01,1CL_AABMW03, etc.. now when i go back to BW
i see the customer attribute data source 1CL_0CUSBMW01 and also text datasources generated in datasource overview, but when i go infosource tab in rsa1 I WAS INTstructed to create the infopackage on 0customer for customer attribute data source 1CL_0CUSBMW01 AND load the data now I " Have a doubt I think I also have to create 4 more infopackages and specify the text datasources generated for the characteristic added in CTBW ex 1CL_AABMW01,1CL_AABMW03. to load the text for the characteristics. please clarify asap if it is required to create all these text infopacks to load the text datasource to respective infoobject or just customer attribute data source 1CL_0CUSBMW01 infopack will take careof every thing, beacuse my manager did not told me to create the text infopack so how will the text get loaded for the infoobject

1CL_0CUSBMW01 is the DS containing 0CUSTOMER and the two (or more) characteristics I assume. This has to be used to update 0CUSTOMER. You can either use the existing infosource, or, create a new one to do this. You will then need a new infopackage to run this.
Let us say one of the characteristics also has text, and you want to bring that to BW using generated DS 1CL_AABMW01. You will replicate it, and use it to update texts to infoobject XXXX (whatever this characteristic is, in BW). This will not be used to update 0CUSTOMER.
Let us say your class char was COLOR. Its values were 1,2,3,4,... and the associated text was Red, Green, Blue...
Now, based on the above, 0CUSTOMER will have an attribute COLOR which will have values in Attr table as 1,2,3,4...
The text table for characteristics COLOR will have values as
1--Red
2--Green
3--Blue.....
The text will NOT go to 0CUSTOMER if that is what you are asking.

Simple basic question on attribute data load for Master Data InfoObject....

I am a bit confused & wanted to have some clarification on the following:
1) For loading Attributes data to Master Data InfoObject, we load it through Data Source of Type Master Data Attribute.
But what i did, i created Data Source of type Transaction data and using the same Excel file, i was able to create transformation with Matser data Attribute and was able to load the data.
This shows i can use Data source of type either master data attribute OR Transaction Data doen't matter while loading into master data attribute. IS THIS TRUE?
2) I have 2 master data infoobjects (Test1 & Test2). I made Test2 as an attribute in Test1.
My question is while loading Master data for Test1, will it also load the data into Test2 if it doen't find respective data in Test2?
(i did all the transformation as per need.)

1. Did you make a transformation between attribute data source from source system other than flat file and DSO?...
I think PC File is flexible in this aspect..
2.While loading Test1 the infoobject Test2 will get loaded only if it is a navigational ttribute..(You can see this by refering the SID Table)
Please also note that it does not load Test2 attributes.

Data Sources for Classification Data Article

I created an DataSource in CTBW like below:

After I click on Generate Data Source the following error message occurs "The extract structure is not permitted".
But It seems that the datasources were created. When I try to test then in RSA3, zero registers in the result.
I know that is possible to get this data from table WRF_CHARVAL with a generic datasource, but I want to know if is possible get from Clssification Data method.

Getting duplicate data records for master data

Hi All,
When the process chain for the master data, i am getting duplicate data records and , for that selected the options in Info package level under processing 1)a update PSA and subsequentky data targets and alternateely select the option Ignore double data records. But still the load was failing and error message "Duplicate Data Records" after that rhe sehuduled the Info package then i am not getting the error message next time,
Can any one help on this to resolve the issue.

Yes, for the first option u can write a routine ,what is ur data target--> if it is a cube, there may be a chances of duplicate records because of the additive nature.if its a ODS then u can avoid this, bec only delta is going to be updated.
Regarding the time dependant attributes, its based on the date field.we have 4 types of slowly changing dimensions.
