Unable to install Firmware update 1.3

I downloaded MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.3 and followed the instructions by shutting down the computer, then holding the power button until the light flashes on the front of the computer. I then release it, hear a long, loud tone and then the computer boots up normally without installing the firmware.
Apparently, under the Apple logo during bootup there's supposed to be a status indicator, but it has never appeared. I've tried several times, all with the same result. What am I doing wrong?

Okay, figured it out. I had to delete this new firmware update along with all the previous firmware updates from applications/utilities and then re-download the 1.3 update and install it. Hope that helps if someone else has the same problem.

I ignored this for sometime but today I lost my patience and decided to fix this nagging problem. The update prevented me from using the shutdown option as then it would download the updates and then fail over and over again.
None of the steps helped however they set me on a path. I uninstalled all unwanted programs but that was not what fixed the issue. I noticed other than Office 2007 I also had installed Word viewer 2007 , Excel viewer, Powerpoint viewer. I uninstalled these
voila!! Windows update said I don't need these updates on which the install was failing, I checked for updates again and the above updates never appeared in the list of updates found.
I thought I will put this out there just incase someone else runs into similar situation as me. Good Luck.

  • Problem installing firmware update...

My MacBook Pro no longer boots. Here's what happened...
I downloaded and installed the new EFI firmware update. I shut down my MacBook and then held down the power button to begin the update process. Nothing happened. Nothing displayed on the screen. So I pressed down the power button to power up, and the sleep light became lit. Suddenly, my MacBook began to make non-stop whirring sounds from the DVD drive, as if trying to load a disc. Nothing displayed on the screen, and OS X did not load. No beep could be heard, either. I could not get it out of this state. All I could do was to power off or to power on and hear the non-stop whirring sounds.
I did some research on the support site and decided that the firmware update must have failed, so I created a firmware restoration CD and loaded it after powering up. It stopped the sounds from the device, but nothing else happened. Still, my Macbook failed to boot. Also, strangely, the light on my power adapter stayed amber, not green, as if the battery was not charging.
So I called Apple technical support, and was asked to remove my adapter and battery, and to hold the power button down for five seconds (I believe this is related to resetting the power management?). Well, that did not help at all. I was then advised to take it to a repair centre.
Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Well, they ended up replacing my logic board. Fortunately Apple shipped it quickly.
First thing I got when I booted up was a prompt to install a newer version of the EFI firmware, 1.5.1. Fortunately, this time it went without a hitch.
One side effect of the logic board replacement is a new MAC address. I've had some trouble enabling my Airport connection (I kept getting a self-assigned IP address and had to wipe my firewall list), and it looks like my Time Capsule backup is no longer accessible (probably because of the MAC address change?), but otherwise I'm up again...

  • Tip: Unable to Install or Update Apps Using the iPhone's App Store?

I had a problem today where I found myself unable to install updates, or install new or previously purchased apps using the App Store on the iPhone. However, I had no problem with the installation of apps when I plugged my iPhone into my computer, opened iTunes and dragged the app I wanted over to my iPhone. So, I did the usual: I tried a reboot, and, when that didn't work, I powered my phone off and waited a few minutes before turning it back on. Still no love with the updating or installation of apps using the App Store on my iPhone.
Here is what I did do to fix it:
I keep backups of my iPhone on my MBP and I back up my phone regularly. If you do not, you should start doing so. Anyway, I went ahead and plugged my phone into my computer and launched iTunes (I also update my MBP daily if necessary, so the most current version of iTunes was used).
Once my phone showed up in iTunes and I could select it, I right-clicked on the iPhone's name (I use a MBP, but I know Windows users might view this, too, so universal language is what I will use - for Mac users, right-clicking means using two finger tap on a touchpad or using the good 'ol Control-click) and selected "Back Up" from the menu.
Once the phone was backed up, I right-clicked again on the iPhone's name and selected "Restore from Backup...".
I made sure the value for "iPhone Name" was correct and that the "Last Backed Up" day and time values were correct and I clicked the "Restore" button and let the restore process finish completely (wait until your iPhone shows up in iTunes again before doing anything else with your phone).
Once the restore was complete, I was extra cautious and powered off then powered on my phone. Finally, I went ahead and plugged it back into my MBP and made sure that the phone showed up in iTunes.
Following all of that, I launched the App Store on my iPhone again, entered the password for my Apple ID and updating apps, installing new apps, and installing previously purchased apps from iCloud all worked again.
Please note that this process is much different than just simply clicking the "Restore" button on your iPhone's homepage in iTunes. That will prompt you to backup your phone, completely restore it to factory defaults, and, then require you to restore from backup to get all your settings and such back. This is not the route I took - I simply restored from an existing backup. I want to make sure that this point is clear. Although, if restoring from an existing backup does not solve the issue at first, then perhaps a restore to factory defaults followed up with a restore from a backup will do the trick, too. I just did not want to waste my time taking the much longer route first and was happy to find my iPhone's App Store working again by simply restoring my phone using an existing backup.
I have seen a lot of posts regarding this issue in the support communities, with none of them having an answer (even after calling Apple Support). I hope this helps anyone else that has had, is having or will have the same issue! Feel free to post comments regarding other solutions you have found for the same issue - let's have one discussion where all possible solutions can be posted so iPhone users do not have to sort through a bunch of unhelpful discussions just to find a solution that was not yet documented (like I had to).

  • Can't install os mavericks because don't have macbook air flash storage firmware update 1.1; can't install firmware update because OS is too old (10.7.4)

Hello, I have a Macbook Air, bought May 2012 or so that came with OS 10.7.4 on it.  Did not try to upgrade OS until recently.  Tried to upgrade to OS Mavericks, however received error message 'Before installing OS X Mavericks this system requires MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1."  I then downloaded and attempted to install said Firmware Update 1.1, but received another error message, to wit: "This update requires 10.7.5 or 10.8.5 or later"
Who can help me out the this Catch-22?  I thought about first updating to OS 10.8, but apparently that is no longer available?

    Hi CursedIn,
If the Firmware update required for Mavericks requires 10.7.5 to install, you may be able to download it directly from the following link:

  • I am unable to install any updates to my MacBook?

Every time I try to update the software (when the Software Update" panel opens up), I can download the software but after downloading it says "Unable to install software" "An unexpected error occcured".....
I have plenty of HD space (100G available out of 320G), and I've tried repairing permissions, restarting etc but I still get the same error message.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Hi...
"Unable to install software" "An unexpected error occcured".....
If you have anti virus software instaled, disable that.
If that's not the issue, run Disk Utility to verify the startup disk. Not the same as repairing permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
    Click Verify Disk
If the disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • HT1338 Unable to install security Update 2012-004

I am unable to update my Mac (OS X Version 10.6.8) with the latest security update 2012-004 despite numerous attempts and even visitng the store and trying to install manually, HELP !
I can check for software updates that are available and click on the install & restart option but when the computer reboots an new software update check produces the exact same results.  The software clearly isn't upadating.  I initially had 2 updates - the other being Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 11.  After fiddling around for ages I managed to get this update installed by going to the downloads page and installing directly.  However, I have had no sucess with the Security update.  The last Security update installed was 2012-002.  I have tried to find and install Security Update 2012-3 without sucess.

Try reinstalling the Snow Leopard combo update (again).   If it has already been done it won't hurt to do it again on top of the existing one.
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Restart your machine and then try to download the security update 2012 -004 which I believe is the latest.

  • Help trying to download and install firmware updater 1.0.2

When I click on Apple's link to download and install the latest firmware updater, this is the message that I get. Look at the link, and let me know where I can find the latest firmware updater for the headset to work. Thanks!

Okay. I uninstalled AIR, downloaded the current version and re-installed. I thought maybe a full install with the current version would help. CS4 setup seems to be working until it gets stuck at 'installing Adobe AIR.' I uninstalled AIR again and let CS4 setup install it but it still dies when it tries to do so. When it gets stuck, It will not let me CANCEL, instead I have to 'force quit' -- even thoght it doesn't show up as crashed. One great thhing -- I no longer have the big bang game popping up.
Thank you so much for you answer, One step @ at time...
