Unable to install update 10.6.3
I'm having trouble installing update 10.6.3. I receive an error message stating "the installer encountered errors before itunes could be configured. Errors occurred during installation. Your system has not been modified". This has happened with previous updates, so it's been going on for a few months. I get the same error when I install manually.
Any ideas?
So I have a similar problem - could not update to 10.6.3 itunes - keeps saying corrupt file - so as per b noir downloaded 10.6.3 directfrom apple.com/... and now am wondering if installing that will wipe my existing movies songs and settings held by 10.6.1 ???
What did you end up doing after you downloaded 10.6.3 from apple - did you install it or somehow update to it? Did you have a previous version of itunes that it collected your settings, music and movies from or ???

Please help!!I don't understand what you did. There are 2 ways to update. Nothing to download. If you downloaded something you did it wrong.
1. On the phone go to Settings/General/Software Update. Follow instructions on the screen.
2. Connect the phone to iTunes and click the Update button on the summary screen in iTunes.
There are 2 situations where these won't work. 1. The phone is jailbroken. 2. You have the beta iOS 6 on your phone. For that you need to get the update from a developer. -

There is no such thing as an iPhone 's3'. There is a 3G which can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1 and a 3GS which can be updated to iOS 6.1.3.

Which way are you trying to update? WiFi or iTunes? In either case, I would try restarting/rebooting all devices and then try again.
IF you are using iTunes, eject your iPad, quit iTunes, reboot your computer and reset your iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen. After the iPad starts up, connect to iTunes and try again. You may also want to disable your firewall and antivirus software when you try to update using iTunes. Sometimes those will interfere with the download.
If you are using WiFi, reset the iPad as described above and try again.
If WiFi updating will not work, try using iTunes, if iTunes will not work, try using WiFi. -

If you did the update through iTunes, try going into the Settings App on your iPhone and doing the Software Update in there. The same thing happened to me, and the wireless update worked.

Even I got same mesage but after restoring the phone using itunes, it worked for me. First restore and update your phone again using itunes.

I have exactly the same problem. iPhone 4S, never been jailbroken. Not behind a firewall and it happens whether I am on my home compute (iTunes) or directly thru Settings_Update.
Looks like loads of people are having the same problem - and as far as I can see, Apple's sole reply is jailbreak or behind firewall/ security settings/anti-virus. None of those apply here! -
IOS 6 Error - Unable to install update
I downloaded the IOS 6 update and clicked on Install Now. and click to Agree. It says verifying update and then I get the error "Unable to install update. An error occured installing IOS 6." I get a choice of Close or Settings. Both take me back to IOS 6 update screen. It does say it's downloaded.
I've tried turning the new iPad off and then back on. My current OS is 5.1.1 ((B206)
Help!Not sure if this will help on iPads, but I was getting error message when I tried to "Install Update" on my iPhone 4s. Every time I would hit the Install button and agree to the terms I would get the pop up message that the "Software update not available at this time. Try again later." What I did was turn off wifi and went back to install and it worked! Well, it is currently off with black screen and apple logo with upgrade bar so we'll see. Hopefully no futher issues arise. Good luck everybody!
