Unable to open a saved/ downloaded pdf file

Hi
I get the following error when trying to open pdf file that was downloaded and saved through a java program.
Adobe Reader could not open 'export.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged. (for eg. it was sent as email attachment and was not correctly decoded.
Any solution or suggestion to this error will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Revathi

Since you don't tell us anything about your code, we can only guess.
Here are common solutions:
- Don't use any of those types when handling your data: char, char[], String, Reader, Writer.
- Make sure that you really understand what read(byte[]) does and when it returns. (Hint: when ignore its return value or call it outside a loop, then you don't understand it).

  • With the new update: I click on .pdf to download and multiple new tabs open w/o downloading .pdf file

Every time I click to download a .pdf file for a study on the following site
    http://www.regionschristiancenter.org/the-rabbis-son/rabbis-son-study-archives/archives-dvarim-deuteronomy/
Firefox opens multiple new tabs and does not stop doing so until I close the browser and even then it opens up on its own and continues to open multiple new tabs. If I do not get to it quickly enough, I may have to do this more than twice.
I have tried downloading a study on Internet Explorer and do not have this issue. There is also a Microsoft Word option that works on Firefox but it's the .pdf that is the problem.
I have not attempted to download any other .pdf files from other sites so I do not know if it is a problem with all .pdf files. But as stated above, it is not an issue with .pdf on IE.

Could you check your PDF viewer preference and try changing it to a different viewer to see whether that helps? This article describes how to access that setting: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]].
Unfortunately, the settings file that stores those application handling preferences sometimes contains crossed up settings or settings which Firefox cannot actually implement. In that case, you generally need to rename or remove that file and let Firefox rebuild it. The steps for that are in this article: [[Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link]] -- skip to the section "Reset actions for all content types".

  • Opening or saving a pdf file from my email

I just got a new computer which operates using Vista. I get many emails with pdf attachments and when I try to open or save them nothing happens. The little window pops up which shows the file transferring but it never finishes. I am not computer savvy and would appreciate anyones help.

I too am having that problem opening files in certain programs, as they open in others. I have installed Adobe reader 8, but it started before I downloaded this program. I updated to Norton Internet Security 08 and that's when my problems started happening. Do you know why the pdf file keeps running as to open, but doesn't? It is necessary that I get this straightened out as my boss has the same problem and we only have one other computer that we can use to open these files. Thank You for your time.

  • I have updated my credit card information for adobe pro subscription service, but I am still unable to open any of my PDF files.  Isn't being able to open PDF files a free service??

My credit card expired and I was asked to update my credit card info which I have done.  Now they say I have to wait 24-48 hours to be able to access the pro features again.  First, I should have just bought a brand new subscription which I am able to use immediately like when I first bought it, and secondly, isn't opening a PDF file a free service as long as you have the program installed??

If you are making use of a "subscription" desktop application the subscription has to be "active" (paid up).
Once your updated info is processed you'll be able to use the subscription application.
As Bernd wrote - Adobe Reader is free (download, install, use).
    Be well...

  • Has anyone experienced problems saving downloaded pdf files in Yosemite?

In Mavericks, I could choose the pdf file destination folder using the save dialog box's "search" entry to select the folder to save a file in. Now the search feature seems to have been disabled. Yosemite appears to have implemented a new method to choose a destination folder. It sometimes allows me to navigate to a parent folder and get a list of sub folders that I can scroll through to choose the desired one. Problem is that the feature seems to be unstable - I can't reliably get this feature to work and wonder if I can downgrade to Mavericks.

    Hi Melbus_SE,
Are you downloading files from your Acrobat.com cloud storage? If so, what browser are you using, and are you on Mac OS or Windows? Has something changed on your system since you were able to download/open PDF files successfully? What version of Acrobat or Reader are you using to open these files?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but your answers will help us get to the bottom of this issue.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Unable to download pdf file in windows 8.1

After upgrading to windows 8.1, i have been unable to download pdf files sent via yahoo email, IE11 and Adobe Reader 11.  Did not have this problem before with windows 8.  I click on the pdf attachment, NOrton says that the file is safe but nothing happens.  Am unable to save the file to my computer either.  Have already reloaded Adobe Reader repeatedly, drivers for window 8.1 associated with the hardware on my system, newest version of internet explorer,, upgraded drivers for my Canon printer and still no downloads!!!
Can anybody help?  Microsoft community unable to give anymore suggestions.

Wrong forum (this is Digital Editions), but ...
I find .pdf files often won't launch properly on my Win8.1.  It starts the process but it doesn't do the right thing.
Try making sure you don't have any copies of Reader working (AcroRd32.exe on my 32 bit Win 8.1).
Start a copy from the start screen (or start menu if you've set one up) BEFORE you try to access the file.
Now try to do the download or open it from the downloads directory.
I find that way the file will open properly.

  • Can't open or download pdf files

Much of the time I am unable to open pdf files on websites, or download them. Sometimes it works, but mostly not. When downloading doesn't work, I get a window with the front page of the document I want displayed, but I can't scroll to other pages, and it doesn't download. (I have it preferences set to download to my Desktop, and normally download other types of files.)
When I click to display pdf files, I get a new Safari window with a Quicktime logo in the middle.
I have re-downloaded the lastest version of Adobe Acrobat reader, incase that helped.
I have been living with this, thinking it's one of the prices of using Mac, but surely there's a solution?

Can someone help me with a similar problem? Safari
used to work fine, but now, when I click on a link in
a webpage that should give me a pdf file, I just get
a blank page with the url for the link showing above
in the address space. There is no download happening
at all. I find I can download them using Explorer,
but I don't want to use Explorer. I have OS 10.4.8
and Adobe Reader 7.0.5. Thanks for any help.
After reinstalling Safari, etc., I tried installing the Schubert plug-in mentioned in an e-mail above. It didn't work until I went into Adobe preferences and turned off the instruction telling it to display downloaded pdf files. Suddenly, voila! I'm downloading files fast into the browser, and can save them fast to my desktop. So, thanks, whoever it was that suggested that little plug-in.

  • Unable to download pdf files from emails or websites

I used to be able to download pdf files from emails and websites on my Windows vista 2007 computer, but am now unable to save or download them.  Is there something I need to adjust in my security system which hasn't changed?

If you're using Vista it's the same procedure as with Windows 7 (which I use) From Tools>Internet Options, click the Programs tab, and then click the Set Programs button. In Windows 7 this will open the Control Panel>Default Programs window. From there you want to click Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Scroll down the list to Portable Document Format (PDF). click it and click the Change Program button. Choose Adobe Reader as the default program, click Ok and then PDFs will download instead of opening in IE.

  • HT1750 unable to download pdf files with the new lion instillation

I am unable to download pdf files after installing lion.

I have an imac purchased 4/2010 and same thing happened to me but can't find anyone to address it. The real tragedy here is that I paid for the full adobe creative suite, web premium back in 2010 and Adobe Pro can't open them, although it worked just fine before. Then I installed the latest version of Adobe reader and tried changing that to my default and that doesn't work either.
It's pretty lame that I have to go on my boyfriends windows pc to open and print a .pdf as the only alternative. I did not read about this when researching whether or not to upgrade to lion from snow leopard otherwise I would not have kept the old operating system.
    Why isn't apple addressing this???

  • I am trying to upload a downloaded pdf file, but cannot open the downloaded files

I am trying to open 2 downloaded pdf files (ticketmaster tickets) from 4/23/11 so that I can upload them to stubhub.com and sell them. I can't even open a pdf file that I downloaded today? Plus, the pdf files are not being saved in my download file on my C disk as I have specified. Any suggestions?

I am 99.9% certain that all pages were uploaded. You can confirm this by downloading it and checking to see that it's all there.
The problem is that the file previewer within Workspaces.acrobat.com only displays the first 50 pages.
You might try our other file storage service at files.acrobat.com. The previewer there displays all pages of uploaded PDFs.

  • When I try to open a downloaded PDF file it opens for about 6 seconds and then closes - how can I fix that?

    I am using a Dell XPS8500 desktop with 64 bit Windows 7.
No problem downloading PDF files but when I open them they disappear before I can print.

    Hello,
Which application are you trying to open the PDF files in? Firefox or Adobe Reader? Or another?
If adobe reader then please make sure that your copy is up to date. You can get the latest version here - http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/
Also I notice that you are using Firefox 19. Unless you have a particular reason to run an old version of Firefox is it much better to keep updated. The latest version is v22. New security fixes are applied in every new version of Firefox. Without them your PC is vulnerable. Please see this article: [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]

  • Opening downloaded pdf files using Adobe instead of in Safari

I prefer to use full-feature Adobe software to view downloaded pdf files instead of Safari. How do I keep Safari from opening them in the browser and instead automatically open Adobe Reader when the search engine finds a pdf file?

I have just installed Adobe Reader 9. I am getting frequent system hangs (cannot do anything without cold re-boot) when using the product, in particular when using forms documents provided by Companies House, a UK government agency.

  • When I download pdf files in Safari I get a black screen.  However, if I open a pdf in Mail it is viewable in Preview.  How do I fix this?

When I download pdf files in Safari I get a black screen.  However, if I open a pdf in Mail it is viewable in Preview.  What is wrong?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
