Unable to Open Acrobat Pro 9

I am a new iMac user with OS 10.6.8 and have installed Acrobat 9 Pro from a DVD. When I click on the Acrobat icon the program fails to open. The icon bounces once on the dock but nothing opens. It does appear to open if I double click an existing .pdf file.
How do I resolve this?
Operating System: Mac OS X (v10.6)
Thanks

Try performing all updated to the Acrobat 9 by downloading the appropriate files from the Adobe ftp site. You'll need to get beyond 9.2 for it to open in 10.6 and probably need to go to 9.4.4 at least.

I installed acrobat pro on my computer, and now I am unable to download items because I get a message that I need to open acrobat for the user agreement. opening acrobat pro does not help. What do i do?

I have not contacted Adobe. I am using acrobat pro CC, and haven't noticed any problem with the software itself. The only problem I have had so far is when I try to download.

  • I am unable to open Acrobat X in Windows 7

I am unable to open Acrobat X in Windows 7. The shortcut appears on the desktop but when I click it nothing happens. Same from the program list. Just re-installed from cd but still nothing.

Since you can not open Acrobat (assume there were no errors shown with the installation and this is a new installation), then go to Control Panel>Programs & Features and select Acrobat. Select the uninstall/change. Along the way you should be provided an option to repair -- do that. If you like, you can also download the updates from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows and install them in order.

  • "Licensing for this product has stopped working" message appears each time I open Acrobat Pro.

"Licensing for this product has stopped working" message appears each time I open Acrobat Pro.  I am at a loss as to how to fix the problem.  Can anyone provide some insights?

Thanks Bill.  After a good nights rest I don't feel like I'm in as big of a fight with Adobe as I was yesterday.  I was able to search through the search results with more patience and found these instructions:
Error "Licensing has stopped working" | Windows
My problem was solved after the first step.  THANK YOU.  Life is much more peaceful when the things that are supposed to work do.

  • I upgraded laptop to Windows 8.1, but when I open Acrobat Pro XI, my Windows Taskbar disappears.  I must restart PC.

    Hi there,
This is exactly what it says in the title.
I got a new laptop with Windows 8.1 (from W7), but when I open Acrobat Pro XI, my Windows Taskbar disappears.  I must restart PC in order to get the taskbar back.
Has anyone come across this issue?
    Thanks.

    Hi Paul ,
I would like to know does this happen in case of Acrobat only or while accessing any other applications as well ?
Are you able to see the taskbar before you access any application?Or it just disappears when you launch Acrobat?
You can try repairing Acrobat once and see if that fixes the issue.
If that does not work ,you can try uninstalling Acrobat once and install it again.
Please refer to the following as well and see if that helps.

  • Opening Acrobat Pro Opens ALL PDFS

I have a real glitch. When I open Acrobat Pro for some reason it opens all of my pdfs... I mean all, every PDF I have opens in the past on my computer opens, and I have to force quit. Any help?

This is a real bug...many folks on both Windows and Mac sides are experiencing it...I'm surprised Adobe hasn't patched it yet. Something is launching everything in your History cache.
The only solution I've had success with is to
NOT force quit it (it'll just do it again the next time you launch),
let it open all of the windows,
option-click close on the last window opened,
    quit Acrobat,
    then restart it.
It hasn't happened in a few months since we let it "run its course."

  • How can I force Excel hyperlinks to open Acrobat Pro rather than Acrobat Reader?

My Excel (2010) hyperlinks to PDF file always open the Reader...but I want these files to open in Acrobat Pro (X) so I can use all the tools.
    Is this possible?
Can I uninstall the reader? Will that force Pro to be the default file opener?
    Thanks.
    SS

Open Acrobat -> Click to 'Edit' menu -> Preferences -> General (Category)
Now click on "Select Default PDF Handler" button choose Acrobat X from the drop-down and then click apply.
It will reset Acrobat X as a default viewer and your all link will open in Acrobat then.

  • Problems with opening Acrobat Pro 9 PDF files

Hi. We use Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 to convert our product documentation Word files into PDFs. During the last weeks our customers report more and more problems with opening these files. We usually deliver those on a DVD with Acrobat Reader 5 or another older version. (Please don't ask me why we're still on these old versions!) Did anyone experience similar problems with Acrobat Pro 9 PDF files and older versions of the Acrobat Reader? Does Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 work smoothly with the newest Acrobat Reader 9.1 download?
Please post your comments. Thx a lot - Kay

I would recommend distributing higher version of Reader as version 5 is just too old but looks like you can't go there.
Acrobat 9 PDFMaker and Adobe PDF printers by default create PDF 1.5 compaible files. PDF 1.5 compatible files can be opened only in Acrobat 6 and above. That's probably the reason why your customers can't see the contents.
What you can do is to change your conversion settings to produce PDF 1.4 compatible files:
    - In Word, select Acrobat tab or Adobe PDF menu (depending on your version of Word), select Settings
    - Select "advanced settings" in the dialog that comes up
    - Choose compatibility as "Acrobat 5", PDF 1.4
IF you print to Adobe PDF printer, you'll find a similar setting in the print dialog.

  • Unable to open Mac Pro Superdrive

I'm currently unable to open my superdrive on my Mac Pro and am looking for any tips on how to correct.  I was thinking about installing a blu ray drive in my Mac Pro and had watched the proper instructions on how to accomplish this task.  I had the drive installed on the bottom rack and decided to abandon the idea and just keep with the one drive.  So, after putting everthing back where it should be (supposedly) I'm finding a misalingment on the hinged dust cover door that prevents my superdrive from opening at all (see photo).  I'm at a loss on how to make an adjustment to correct this and was hoping someone might have some hint to share.
I've included pics that show the misalignment if it helps to demonstrate where the problem lies.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

yeah, alignment can be a pain. should be as easy as making ice, but somehow it isn't. Check to make sure the drive is fastened correctly into the sled on both sides.  make sure that the sled hits all the pins as you slide it in. Make sure that the cable is tucked well out of the way and isn't stuck/binding on anything. there isn't a lip on the disc tray is there? I think there might be a screw on the side of the hinged door which might help or not--could be tight. looks to me like one side is a bit up and the other side isn't. may a little push in the right spot might help....
if you're still stuck I think there's online videos on how to put a drive into your Mac Pro which might help you out a bit

  • Opening Acrobat Pro XI on desktop

I am trying to open Adobe Acrobat Pro XI on my desktop and it is asking for a serial number of my existing version which was Premium Suite 5.5. It won't accept this existing serial number. Can anyone help?

Asking for the previous version serial number means you have an upgrade version.  If you look at the products that qualify for an upgrade purchase/installation, Premium Suite 5.5 does not qualify.
Even if Premium Suite 5.5 contains Acrobat X Pro that doesn't mean it qualifies as historically there is usually not an option for upgrading from Suites to individual products.  But you might be able to get special consideration if you contact Adobe directly and ask.

  • Can't Open Acrobat Pro XI after scanning documents

I recently installed Acrobat Pro XI on my Windows 7 system. Upon start-up, Acrobat Pro XI opens and closes fine.  However, when I use my Fujitsu scanner without having an Acrobat document open, I am no longer able to open Acrobat. The scanner will create the PDF document, but the PDF document will not open up or appear on my screen immediately following the scan. Instead, I get periodic pop-up messages stating "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server." I can open PDF documents with  Nitro PDF Creater after this occurs, but not with Acrobat Pro XI. The only way that I can correct the problem is to restart my computer. Following the restart, Acrobat Pro XI will open again. However, I must have Acrobat open again before I use my Fujitsu scanner or the problem will reappear.  Any thoughts on how to resolve this issue? Thanks.

I have read about the DDE server issue in other posts so you might search for it. I think there may be a knowledgebase article about it.
When this problem occurs, open the tasks list (ctrl-alt-del>tasks) and be sure there is not residual of Acrobat sitting around. That may be what has happened, or maybe some other application is lingering there. Be aware that a few tasks like AcroTray should be running as they enable the PDF creation process.
