Unable to Open adobe reader Portfolios due to flash not being installed

Flash : 12.0
Adobe Reader: 11.05
OS: Windows 8.1
Browser: IE 11
Hi,
when launching a PDF that is classed as a portfolio I get the below error which appears to require flash to be installed.
two things im sort of observing:
due to being on windows 8.1 Flash is now installed via Microsoft. I cannot find a valid update for windows 8.1 from adobe site  can find for windows 8 but nothing for windows 8.1
Since Flash player Plugin is no longer bundled with Adobe Reader I need to install seperatly but i cant because of point 1.
If i install the windows 8 version of flash onto the machine I can open the PDF file no problem but by doiing this im not sure what file i might be over wrtiing and cause further issues down the track .
Read somewhere that the NPSWF64_12_0_0_70.dll is what adobe reader would use . copy the file to the required location and registering the dll seemed to do nothing as i get the same error.
My question is how can i get the Flash Plugin for Adobe reader to work so that I can open PDF portfolios ?

Windows 8.x only comes with the Flash Player ActiveX (for Internet Explorer); you need to install the plugin manually from http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player.exe

Don't know. You might want to try the Reader forum.

  • Unable to open documents in Adobe Reader 9.4 - showing as not 'currently installed'?

    Hi,
This problem has been driving me crazy all day...
I installed the patch to opgrade Adobe Reader 9.3 into 9.4 this morning; as soon as I did I was unable to open PDFs, getting an error message along the lines of "you are not authorised to view this".  To try and resolve this, I uninstalled reader and installed it again directly from the Adobe website.
I'm now getting the following error:
"This action (i.e. opening the file) is only valid for products that are currently installed".
I uninstalled and reinstalled twice more, same issue.
I have tried repairing the installation in Adobe.  To clarify, I can't double click/right click open PDFs.  However, if I drop them onto the Adobe Desktop icon they open normally.  I am also unable to open PDFs which are attached to emails without dropping them on desktop, then dropping them on Adope icon.
I'm using 64 bit Windows 7, and it is my work desktop that is affected.
    Does anyone have any advice?

    Hi Ankit,
Thank you for your advice, but Im still having problems.
Back to the OP.  To avoid the threads getting confused, I suggest the other user starts a new one?
I have tried ensuring that PDFs are automatically opened by Adobe.  I used the path you suggested.  However, I'm still having the same problem.
When I went to do this, Adobe was listed in the "recommended" list of products with which to open PDF files.  However, I ignored this and followed your guidance.  Once I had done, nothing happened (i.e. Adobe icon was not added to the 'Other products' list below the 'Recommended').
To me, this speaks of either a bad installation or bad association in which something is causing Adobe not to recognise itself.
    What else can you advise?
Is there, for instance, a way to have a clean removal of Adobe, and then reinstall?  I don't even know if this will work.

  • Unable to open Adobe Reader with ability to changes PDF to word

adobe reader with ability to change from pdf to word stopped working I purchased a new year and it does not work?

    John,
Glad to hear everything is working. I'm surprised, too, though, because these subscriptions are on auto-renewal when you subscribe (unless you cancel before the subscription runs out).
So....I just double-checked your account.  You had a CreatePDF basic subscription which expired on August 28 (I'm guessing that one wasn't on auto-renewal).
In any case, I think all is well now!
    Best,

  • Unable to open Adobe reader

I have for months attempted to uninstall and reinstall Adobe Reader as it suddenly stopped working.  The only thing I consistently receive is that Adobe Reader has stopped working correctly and Windows will close the program and notify if a solution is available.  What the heck do I need to do to make this work?

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you may download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Error: cannot synch ipad/ipod due to software not being installed?

    Hey community!
I've been having this problem synching both my iPod touch and iPad to iTunes (running on a recent Windows 7 machine). I kept getting the error message stating that I didn't have the correct 64bit version of iTunes installed. With a little help from user b noir down at this discussion thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20296011#20296011 , I've been able to connect both iPad and iPod without having iTunes giving the eroor again.
But, iTunes shows neither of these, both in the basic musiclist and in the preferences-tab.
The devices don't appear in the 'my computer'-window, but in the device manager of win7 they are listed as usb-controllers: both always named 'Apple Mobile Device USB Driver'. The usb-icon left of their name has this yellow exclamation sign (suggesting an error i presume) but when rightclicking and checking all details, nothing is mentioned about possibles faults.
Basically I'm stuck and really need some help on this matter.
In the installation-forum I've already been helped up untill this point (see this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20296011#20296011 ).
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks in advance!

I read in another discussion concerning the same problem that reinstalling the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi alone would do the trick, but all I get when I open that msi is this:
"A later version of Apple Mobile Device Suppor' is already installed on the computer."
That's a rarer one. (That sort of trouble more commonly hits different .msi files in the iTunes installer bundle.)
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Mobile Device Support entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another AMDS install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Trying to install Mavericks, but says it cant due to recovery not being installed

I have downloaded Mavericks on my wifes MAC BOOK PRO, and it wont load as it says that it cant find "recovery". I downloaded, and installed Mavericks on my 2009 MacBook without any problems.
Any help and or hints would be most welcome.

You can't do an erase/install from a Time Machine disk because it uses the very Recovery Partition on the computer that is missing.  To get this put back, requires booting externally, erasing the offending OS and running the installer from there.
I'm surprised the installer wont run because people with Snow Leopard do not have such a Recovery Partition and they can upgrade.
Here is one route and I wish it was simpler.
    1. Make sure the MBP backup on Time Machine is up-to-date.
    2. Re-partition the Time Machine disk to make a small new one of about 80Gb or so.
    3. Attach the disk to the MacBook and boot into the MacBook. Download the installer again.  (Save a copy before running it).
    4. Install Mavericks onto the new partition, without any data transfer, except to copy over the installer.
(You could just clone your MacBook using Carbon Copy Cloner, if you have it.  It would be good backup anyway)
    5. Shutdown the MacBook and move the disk to the MBP, boot into the new partition.
    6. Go to Disk Utility and erase the MBP disk. Run Verify disk.
    7. Running the installer, it will ask where to install Mavericks and you need to click to show a list of disks.  Choose the MBP and go from there.  At the point it asks to transfer data. Select the Time Machine partition and use that to get your wife's user account.
    Heck that is complicated!

  • Can't open Adobe Reader XI

I am unable to open Adobe Reader XI on my new PC with Windows 8. Everytime I open a file, it just hangs and says (Not Responding) and I am forced to close the file. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but the problem persists. When I open the folder, if I choose preview, the file shows up fully, but would not open the file in a proper way. It also works in Adobe Reader when I open a file on the internet that is saved in pdf format by the provider (like a company's annual report) and am able to switch to the Reader. The only time it fails to respond is when I try to open a file directly, either by doble-clicking on the file or by File-Open comman in Adobe.

    Some things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

Have recently updated Adobe Reader and now unable to open downloaded documents - Message received is could not open 'file name.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). When I check the file it shows Zero KB downloaded but the file appears - any suggestions?

Obviously your download was not successful.
What is your operating system?  How exactly do you download such files?

  • Error message: Your trial has expired. Unable to use adobe reader to open PDF's.

I have reinstalled the reader several times and keep getting the same error message. My CS6 is working fine.

Does the error actually say "Unable to use Adobe Reader..."?
If not, it could be that you have the trial version of Acrobat installed and were using it to open PDF's instead of Reader (Reader doesn't have a trial)?
If so, you can change your file associations to open PDF's with Reader (how to do this varies by your OS) or install Reader.

I am unable to get Adobe Reader to open. I am on Windows XP, SP3 and I have tried with Adobe Reader 9, 10, and 11. When I try opening a PDF file, if I look in the Task Manager, the AcroRd32.exe process will appear, however nothing shows up under the Applications tab.

Could you see whether Firefox will start in its Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
    Here's how:
With Firefox closed, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
