Unable to open any PDF document in Windream using Adobe Reader (11.0.9)

Our company uses a document management system for storing and archiving important documents. Since updating to the latest version of Adobe Reader (11.0.9) last week, we are unable to open any PDF document using Adobe Reader. An AcroRd32.exe*32 process is launched, but the document will not open or display. Eventually we suffer a system crash. Opening any other PDF document (not stored in the archive management system) using Adobe Reader is fine. Documents can also be opened in the archive management system using Adobe Acrobat.

Try disabling Protected Mode (see Pat's response here: Anyone having problems with the Acrobat Reader 11.0.9 update on Win7 X64?) and see if that helps...

  • [SOLVED] Evince failed to open any PDF documents after upgrade

I have a x86 version Archlinux on a 32-bit intel platform. After recent upgrade, the Evince package was updated to 2.32.0-3, which fails to open any PDF documents. It gives a notification says "Unable to open document: File type PDF document (application/pdf) is not supported".
No other package was installed/removed. It just stop working after the upgrade.
Looking forward for any suggestions/solutions. Thanks in advance~~

    Thank you so much.
The problem is solved as soon as I replaced the modified freetype2 from AUR with the official package. There seems to be something incompatible with the upgraded system.

Hi.  My new computer had Acrobat on it.  Suddenly, I was unable to open any PDF's.  and then I tried to update and was forwarded to the Adobe site that said I had to buy a monthly subscription.  I do not have the physical box with a serial number and was going to buy the one advertised on the website until I discovered it's only for students and teachers, which I am not.  What should I do next as I need to use PDFs on a daily basis.  Thanks!  I would like to be able to download this and pay online.  Possible? I currently have Adobe Acrobat XI Pro.  I have a Windows 7 system.  Please help!

As long as you know your serial number you can download PSE from here:

    Regards,

    Thanks for the response.
I have written some function in PluginInit. I don't want to call the method when acrobat launches in IE. It should call only when acrobat launches in Desktop.
How can I call the method only when it launches on desktop.
Please help me to solve the issue.

I can't open any pdf documents with Adobe Reader XI...get an error that "Adobe has stopped working" then it closes.  Is this an Adobe issue, Microsoft issue, or security issue?

Thank you!  That seemed to do the trick.  Don't think I'd ever have figured that one out!!

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

According to your User Agent you posted this question using Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1. Are you having a problem with Firefox? What Firefox version?
You said you are having a problem opening PDF files on your system. Can you explain that better? Mozilla Support can help you with opening PDF files in Firefox, which uses a built-in PDF reader. Maybe one of these articles will help?

  • Adobe x unable to open any pdf, or change properties

Just had an update to Adobe reader x and now I am unable to open any pdf email attachments, any saved older pdfs on local or network drive.  Followed a thread on here from last fall, and attempted to open the properties of the reader, but this caused a run-time error and crashed the program completely.  Update of the program was difficult, as I could not get the adobe website to work with MS IE.  and ended up loading Firefox to get the download.
System is Windows XP professional, SP3, 2gb RAM, and working flawlessly prior to the update.
any current ideas of repair or patch without rolling back or going to alternate pdf readers?

Try disabling Protected Mode (see Pat's response here: Anyone having problems with the Acrobat Reader 11.0.9 update on Win7 X64?) and see if that helps...

  • Can one set "Navigation Pane Buttons" Left Sidebar to 'Default Hidden' and 'Not Open' upon opening Any .pdf document?

Can one set "Navigation Pane Buttons" Left Sidebar to 'Default Hidden' and 'Not Open' upon opening Any .pdf document?

Photoshop has to have full administrator rights to have read/write access.
This means you need to run Photoshop CS5.1 in an Administrator account and set it up to "Run as Administrator."
    1. Close Photoshop if it's open.
    2. Right click on your Photoshop CS5.1 launch icon then select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu. (You will have to enter Admin Password if UAC is enabled to change this setting.)
    3. Launch Photoshop CS5.
    4. See if you create and save a document.
Even if you are in an Administrator account you have to do this as Vista's Admin account isn't really the Super Admin as it is in XP so you have to elevate the rights by selecting "Run as Administrator". This setting is sticky so you should only have to do this once. I am not sure why CS3 is suddenly acting as if it does't have Admin rights unless you are running it in a new account that isn't an administrator or maybe uninstalled (cleanScript?) then reinstalled.
If can't create or save a document, check that the account that Photoshop is in is an Administrator account.
To check if you are in an Administrator account...
    1. Type user account in your Vista or Windows7 start search bar. (Start search bar is at the bottom of the panel that opens when you click the start Windows start globe located on the far left hand side of your Windows task bar.)
    2.  Click on "User Accounts" which should show up at the top of the list. This will open the dialog to User Accounts where you can "Change Your Account Type". If UAC (User Account Control) is turned on, you will need to enter the Admin password to change this setting.

    Hi Charlie,
First, thanks for responding. These are mostly emails with attachments or documents that I have. I download them and once I open them the page is blank. I also cannot look at them in Preview. The same problem. I called Apple and they said they assume I have an older software version. They are going to send new software. I am not really sure this will solve my problem. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

thanks Jono But I cannot see any option to set Target Version.
the options I have are XDP Preview format and PDF Render Format which are set to Acrobat 7 static PDF form.
I have set a permissions password on the form using Acrobat 8 and under Password security settings , I have set the compatibility as Acrobat 5.0 or later. However, When I look at the form properties by opening the same form in LiveCycle, the compatibility still shows Acrobat 8 static PDF form.
How do I get this form to be opened by users in Adobe 7?
    Appreciate your quick response.

That hardware button can actually be toggled to work either as a mute button, or a lock orientation button. This can be edited at the settings screen.
