Unable to open PDF Files with adobe reader VI

I have downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader VI I am still not able to open PDF Files. When I click on the file I get a blank window with a  little black box inside a White X!    This black box appears  in the upper left hand corner of the blank window! Please any help to overcome this issue is welcomed...Rick

You are not addressing Adobe here, just fellow users, and you are not providing enough information about your problem. Based on the little you say, I would sauy that you can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Unable to open PDF files with Adobe Reader v11.0, in Windows 8, using C# Process.Start()

    I have been able to open PDF docs using C# API Process.Start("Full_path_To_the_PDF_File")
     in windows 7 or windows 8 with all previous versions of Acrobat32 reader.
    However, with v11.0, the same command, in Windows 8,
     does not open the PDF document. I can see the Acrobat(32) started in the task manager,
    but the document does open. Not sure how I can troble shoot
    this problem.
    As a test, I created ta batch file, with a simple command that calls AcroRD32.exe with a PDF file as a parameter. When I executed the batch file in cmd window, it opens the PDF document. If I execute the batch file using Process.Start(), again it does not
    work. The CMD window opens but, the document does not open. The cmd window just stays open.
    So, there must be something with opening the PDF using the Process.start() command.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,

    This is something Adobe has to troubleshoot. Probably the pdf file association is broken. I suggest you to visit forums.adobe.com to ask Adobe about your problem.

  • How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader instead of google?

    Firefox is unsucessfully using google to open pdf files.  How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader?
    Message was edited by: veeryTalonted

    "Google" is a search engine (website) and NOT (repeat: NOT) a PDF viewer. It can't and won't open PDFs in any real or imaginable way.
    Firefox added their own proprietary PDF viewer with version 20 - they're on 21 now. I'll be the first to admit "it sucks". You CAN'T fill in PDF forms with it, and you can't email them from the page like with Opera, Safari or Chrome (which use the reader plug-in still).
    Unfortunately, the ONLY option you have now that they've added it and killed the ability for the Reader plug-in to work with Firefox, is Tools>Options>Applications - select Portable Document Format(PDF) and choose "Use Adobe Reader (Default)". What that will do is FORCE Firefox to download the PDF instead of opening it in their terrible PDF viewer in the browser window.
    Or... use one of the other browsers I mentioned. They're all free.

  • Unable to open PDF files or Adobe Reader

    I am unable to opern adobe reader or download a ner version of adobe reader.

    Apparently the original software download was corrupt.  I tried to
    "change" it through the add and delete software area of Windows, and  re-installed
    the software.  That seemed to work.  Debating on whether  to upgrade to one
    of their other products.  I could certainly use  fillable forms, signature,
    and modifiable documents.
    Thank you for responding.

  • Problem opening pdf files with Adobe Reader in Windows 7

    I bought a new Dell (Inspiron 5110) with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium (Version 6.1 SP1, 64 bit) and pre-installed Adobe Reader X (10.1.1). I cannot open ANY of my old pdf files with the Adobe reader (even after I re-installed the Adobe Reader). On another computer with Windows 7 I get the same error message. When I installed several other pdf-readers (Sumatra, Foxit, ..) I can still not open the pdf's -- but all the pdf's still open under Windows XP on my old computer and they also open on all my colleagues' non-Windows 7 computers. So it appears to be a Windows 7 problem. The Adobe error message says 'Adobe Reader could not open _.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (…..).
    N.B.: I can download pdf files from the internet and can then open these 'new' pdf files with Adobe Reader X.
    N.B.2.: Most of the 'old' pdf files are scientific articles downloaded from various journal websites 2002-2011, so their quality should be out of question.
    N.B.3.:I've transfered the files via memory stick and portable HD.
    N.B.4.: If I try to open the pdf's via 'Open with' the problem remains the same.
    N.B.5.: When, on my Win7 Dell, I've uploaded/attached one of these old pdf files to an email the rtecipient could not tead it. But he could read it when I'd sent the same file from my old Win XP computer.
    N.B.6.: I have repeated this last observation: When I upload an old pdf file on my Win7 Dell to my email account and then send it to myself, I cannot open/read it on my Win XP (nor on the Dell, of course). Although the file size is precisely the same.
    N.B.7.: When I download a new pdf on my Dell, then upload/attach it to an email also on the Dell and send it to myself, I can download and read the attached pdf on both computers.
    Would be grateful for any suggestions.

    This is really strange.
    Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I can understand, any PDF which is launched on your Win 7 OS fails to open, even though the same file works perfectly fine on your Win XP machine?
    Could you please run a full system anti virus scan on the said PDFs that are present on your local system. It could be a case of infected PDFs.
    Also, it would be great if you could try and download some of the erroneous PDFs from the web again, and see if you experience the same behavior.
    Thanks
    Ankit

  • Computers running Vista won't open PDF files with Adobe Reader

    I have tried downloading the latest version and nothing helps.  The error message says it was incorrectly encrypted or something along those lines.  I have forwarded the file to my home computer and ith opens fine, but not on the boss's computer or his wife's.  They are both running Vista, as is my home computer.  The other computers in the office are older and are running XP.  I hav eno problems with any of them opening PDF files.

    Yep you need Adobe Reader for Intel. Actually you don't even need that. You could use Preview to view .pdf's but I always use Reader. Don't really know why

  • Open PDF file with Adobe Reader - Asks me what Firefox should do - every time

    Hi,
    Everytime I want to open a PDF file, Firefox asks me 'What should Firefox do with this file'.
    I have Open WIth Adobe Reader (default) selected and I have the 'Do this automatically...' box checked.
    So it seems to me that Firefox should not ask me every time.

    Hi - I don't want it to always ask; I want it to never ask.
    Having said that, I changed my option setting to 'always ask' and the next time I tried to open a PDF document, the dialog box opened asking me what to do. The 'Do this automatically...' box was unchecked as expected.
    I checked the 'Do this automatically...' box and now Firefox no longer asks.
    Weird way to solve the problem, but it appears to work fine now.
    Thanks

  • Opening PDF Files with Adobe Reader XL

    I use Google Chrome & have the latest version of Adobe Reader XL installed buyt cannot open any of my PDF files & Windows reverts me to a box that wants to search for other programs that opens PDF files. This all began a few months ago because I used to be able to open my PDFs via Adobe Reader XL. I need help, please!

    Chrome uses its own PDF viewer, which cannot display every PDF file.  You may  need to enable the Adobe Reader plugin in Chrome; see https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/142056

  • Opening .pdf files with Adobe Reader?

    Hello everyone
    I am using Windows 7 (64 bit) and was using Adobe Reader 10 X but found I was unable to read my older .pdf files by double-clicking them as the wrong program's icon was linked to them. No problem I thought so I right clicked on a .pdf file and tried using the open with but the 2 programs listed in the default were both wrong and not Adobe Reader plus the 16 alternates underneath, none of which were reader either. No matter I thought so I used browse and sent myself to C:\Program Files (x86)\AdobeReader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe and pressed ok but it still didn't enter the list! Weird.
    Spent some hours trying to find a solution by searching a popular search engine (yes the G one lol) and I managed to find a couple mentioning fiddling around with the registery which I was hesitant about but eventually did and now the only difference is that the 2 default programs previously listed had now gone but the other 16 are still there (still none for Adobe Reader!) and still browsing/adding doesn't work.
    I have now just about reached the stage where I'm ready to pull my hair out in frustration. Can anyone help/advise with this please? I don't understand it at all. I have now gone back and am currently using Reader 9.4.3, although it still won't show up on the "open with" list etc.
    One last thing and this is strange (to me at least) but if I open Adobe Reader and then use its "open" feature to open one of the same aforementioned .pdf files, it opens it just fine. It's when trying to open the file(s) directly by double clicking them or using open or open with that's causing the problem.
    Thank you in anticipation
    Nick

    You can try the following:
    right click on the item you want to open.
    Then select open with: then select default program.
    Then you browse to your new Adobe Reader executable, and set the always use this program checkbox.
    should do the trick.
    Regards,
    Mas

  • Why am I unable to open this file with Adobe Reader?

    I am trying to open the following file,
    http://www.profitableglass.com/profiles/hotglass/files/profitableglassquarterlyspring%
    and an error message says:
    The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running cannot be used to
    view PDF files in a web browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version
    8 or 9 is neccesary.
    I am running Adobe Reader 9.3 on Windows XP/service pack 3 and
    what does Acrobat have to do with this, if I only want to view file?
    Chris

    This is cbuzz1, with a possible answer to my own question. From some web research and a few phone calls it appears that Adobe Reader 9.3 does not support I.E.8... I uninstalled Adobe Reader 9.3 and installed Adobe Reader 8.2, and no problems whatsoever. It does bother me though that when you go to Adobe Downloads and select Windows XP-sp3 operating system, the first option is to download Adobe Reader 9.3. It doesn't ask which browser you are using...So basically I spent three hours finding out something that I couldn't learn from Adobe Tech Support...

    If Reader ISN'T in the list of prpgrams to open with, click "Browse"
    In the "Browse window" go to C/Program files [or Program Files (x86)]/Adobe/Reader 11/Reader
    Select "AcroRd32.exe" and click "Open"
    Make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is checked and click "OK".

  • Wpf open PDF file in Adobe Reader with a click on a button

    I need a button to open a PDF file with Adobe Reader. I have the following code but it does not work. The file is inside Books folder
    on my application.
    private void openPDF(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    try
    System.Diagnostics.Process process = new System.Diagnostics.Process();
    bookPDF = "Books/" + dataRow.ItemArray[6].ToString();
    Uri pdf = new Uri(bookPDF, UriKind.Relative);
    process.StartInfo.FileName = pdf.LocalPath;
    process.Start();
    process.WaitForExit();
    catch(Exception error)
    MessageBox.Show("Could not open the file.", "Error", MessageBoxButton.OK, MessageBoxImage.Warning);
    I tested a simple string with a test pdf file to open and it opens.
    String file = "C:\pdf\Windows_Server_2008_R2_Unleashed.pdf";
    process.StartInfo.FileName = file;
    process.Start(); process.WaitForExit();

    Hi Carlos Sota,
    In my experience, I suggest that you could set Copy to Output Directory property of the PDF file to “Copy always”.
    Below are my code snippet and screenshot.
    private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    try
    System.Diagnostics.Process process = new System.Diagnostics.Process();
    string path = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory+@"/abc.pdf";
    Uri pdf = new Uri(path, UriKind.RelativeOrAbsolute);
    process.StartInfo.FileName = pdf.LocalPath;
    process.Start();
    process.WaitForExit();
    catch (Exception error)
    MessageBox.Show("Could not open the file.", "Error", MessageBoxButton.OK, MessageBoxImage.Warning);
