Unable to open PDFs with AR 11.0.9 on MacBook Pro due to updates.

Beginning in early Sept. 2014, unable to open PDFs from trusted sources on MacBookPro (MBP) OS 10.9.4 running current AR 11.0.9. Previously, these documents could be downloaded and opened. Interestingly, an iMAC running OS 10.7.5 running AR 10.1.2 can download and open these PDFs. PDFs created by MBP or received via email can be opened. AR on MBP has been uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Suggestions? Please ... no "go insert this code" responses.

Hi MBP User,
Are you still facing this issue?
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall. Is this issue reproducible on other machines, if you have around you.

Ajlan Huda.

  • Unable to open PDFs with CR in the file name or folder name?

We are unable to open any PDFs with capital CR in the title of the document or if they are stored in a folder with CR in the name of it. This is quite a large problem as we are a CRC (Cooperative Research Centre) and need to use this in most file and folder names.

Can you please update to the latest version of Adobe Reader available i.e. 10.1.4 (By clicking on Help > Check For Updates from within the Reader application). This should fix your issue.

  • Unable to open pdf from chrome or firefox on my macbook since the update.

I have a macbook pro. I use chrome or firefox in order to web browse. I have Adobe always running on the bottom of the screen. When I try to open pdf files from the web, it tells me that I need to end license agreement. I cannot figure out how. However, if I use safari, I am able to open the files. What do I need to do in order to get this to work on my chrome?

  • Unable to open pdf with vers 9.0

I have some pdfs that we are not able to open with Adobe Reader
vers 9. The only previous version that I have been able to test them in was 6 and they open fine there. I believe that they are opening ok in other versions because we have some customers who can open them and some that can not.
I have noticed that in Outlook 2007, I can preview them when they are sent as an attachment, but if i try to open them either as an attachement or when saved locally, Adobe starts to open, then locks up. No errors are received.
My machine has the latest vers of Adobe Reader and all current updates installed. I have tried opening these on other machines, with AR 9 and had the same result.
Not sure if there's some setting in Adobe 9 that can be adjusted or if there's something in particualr about these pdf's. I can post example if needed.
    Thanks.

best advice..  advise everyone in your address book not to update to reader

  • Unable to open pdf with embedded flash

Started with Adobe Reader XI (11.0.0.2)
Was running into problems in an app because the new reader version does not work the same way in regards to Find.
Downloaded the Adobe SDK (XI) and tried to open some of the documentation.
Recieved a message that I needed to install flash, did so, "Adobe Flash Plater 11 Active X" shows as installed (along with a bunch of stuff I did not want). Tried again to open the document and it still gives the same message.
    What can I  try now.
I am unable to change versions of Adboe Reader at this point as changing it would negate the problem I'm trying to solve in the first place.

For Adobe Reader XI you will need to install the Flash Player plugin; download the installer from http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player.exe

  • Unable to open PDFs with Reader

I am running Windows 7 and have the free Adobe Reader program downloaded. However, when I try to open my PDFs I get a pop-up stating that my Acrobat free trial has expired and I need to purchase it in order to continue. I don't want to purchase Acrobat, I just want to use Reader in order to open and view the PDFs. Any idea what's causing this?

Obviously your .pdf file association is with Acrobat, not Adobe Reader.
In Reader Preferences | General, use the Select Default PDF Handler button to set it to Adobe Reader.

  • Unable to open pdf created with Acrobat Pro using Adobe Reader X

Files created with some Adobe Professional applications such as Acrobat Pro ensure the file is small by excluding font information from the file.  Simple pdf creation applications embed the font in the file, which makes for transportability between apps but does make the files big.
The problem i have experienced is that Adobe Reader X is one of the simple app varieties, so is unable to open, print, or read files created using Adobe Acrobat Pro..
i'd welcome any help in (a) finding a free app that opens these 'pro pdf' files, OR (b) an option setting in Acrobat Pro which includes the font information in the file - or both!

There are so many things wrong, around a tiny grain of truth, it really isn't worth examining. Not at this stage if you are more interested in getting things working.  It may be worth asking you though, since Reader doesn't even launch for you, how you came to focus on font embedding being the cause.
Ok, Reader doesn't launch. Suppose you start Reader FIRST. Then use File > Open on your PDF.

  • Firefox is unable to open pdf files even with adobe reader

i am unable to open pdf documents with firefox . i have installed latest version of adobe reader for firefox but still i am having problem. older versions of mozilla do not have this problem

Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] If it functions correctly, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

How about if you right click on the PDF and select Save Link As..., and then open it locally from within Reader? Does it work ok then?  That might be a workaround until the issue within the browser is resolved.

  • Unable to open PDF in Web Browser and delay for printing

In my LAN, on several PCs running with Windows 7 (32 and 64 bits), I observe two problems with "Acrobat Reader XI":
    - Delays / unable to open pdf files in the web browser (Internet Explorer).
    - Delays in printing: for example it takes over 8 minutes to print a pdf file: 400kB for two pages (on different printers / models).
Here's the list of actions that I've allready tried to issue those problems:
For the Web Browser problem :
    - Repair the "Acrobat Reader XI" installation.
    - Uninstalling and Installing Acrobat Reader.
    - In the web browser, disabling and activating the add-on (Adobe PDF Reader).
    - Uninstall "Acrobat Reader XI" and install "Acrobat Reader X"
Temporary issue: downgrade to "Acrobat Reader 9", which solves the problem with the web browser.
    For the printing delay:
    - Repair the "Acrobat Reader XI" installation
    - Change the printers drivers (install Universal Drivers PCL)
    - Check the box: "Print As Image" before printing
    Any Idea ?

You can get that error if there is still an old Adobe Reader plugin in the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder.

  • Unable to open PDF's

Using Reader, I am unable to open PDF's that have been downloaded from the web.  I get he following error message:
This is a new problem.  I can open other PDF's.  I am using Reader 11.0.06 on a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion.

    Quit Safari.
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins.
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files.
    Empty the trash.
Relaunch Safari and redownload the PDF.
Unfortunatelky you can't fix the "damaged" one, so just trash it too.

  • Adobe Reader 11 is unable to open PDF's from Internet Explorer 11

My boss is currently operating on the Adobe Reader 11 and often needs to use Internet Explorer 11 for certain programs.
Unfortunately the Adobe Reader is unable to open PDFs from Internet Explorer and often comes up with a message telling us that the file is either damaged, no longer exists or that there is a problem with the syntax.  She does not have this problem with Google Chrome.  We have tried several ideas regarding the security settings but nothing seems to correct the problem.  Could someone shed some light on how to fix this error?

  • UNABLE TO OPEN PDF ATTACHMENTS IN E-MAIL

Over the past week,I have been unable to open PDF attachments in my AOL webmail.  I encounter no problems with my Outlook Express e-mail.  Why is this suddenly happening and how can I correct the problem?

To make sure that Adobe Reader is default,
goto Edit->Preferences->Select default PDF Handler. Check the value in the dropdown list "Select Adobe product". If the first value which appears is 'Adobe ReaderX', then Reader X is the default PDF Handler.
Also please let me know the OS you are using.
Is the problem also faced in AOL webmail with any other Adobe Product(like Acrobat X, Reader 9 etc.) if you are using/used any of them?
    Thanks,
    Shakti
