Unable to print, "printer error".

I recently installed canon printer software when away on a trip to use someone else's printer.  When I returned home I was unable to print on my c309a all in one printer, running windows 7, have the printer on my home network.  I have uninstalled, reinstalled, removed the printer from the control panel, restored to an earlier date and nothing  seems to help.  I click to print something and the little dialogue box will say printing but it doesn't print.  If I click in the status bar on the printer icon it will list the document in que and say "printer error" in the spot that usually lists the status.  If I trouble shoot it will say " a print job in que was preventing the printer from printing" and say it has fixed it but still it won't print.  Anyone have any idea what I can do?  I know the printer is working because it works fine from my husband's laptop via the same network.
Thanks in advance
Jo Ann

  • "unable to get printer status" and "server-error-not-accepting-jobs"

I've got an Intel Mac Pro with Tiger. When I accepted the latest update from Apple, I lost all my defined printers! I've re-added a local USB printer and a networked Laserjet - fine. But I also added a Phaser 850 color printer (networked) which used to work fine. It connects ok, and opens the printer queue window, but when it tries to print, it says "Unable to get printer status (server-error-not-accepting-jobs". The queue stays active (not stopped) but the jobs don't move. I've tried deleting the printer and re-making it - same deal. What's going on?

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're getting the error 'Unable to add print driver hpfax1, error code 87' when installing your HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer on your Windows 7 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this install issue. Thank you for including all of the troubleshooting steps that you have completed prior to reaching out for support. At this time I am going to walk you through some additional software and driver troubleshooting steps. Please follow all of the steps below.  If you're using your HP Laserjet through a USB Cable connection, please disconnect that cable now.  Step one: Remove Driver: 1. Click on your Start menu 2. Select Control Panel 3. Select Programs and Features 4. When Programs and Features opens a list of programs installed on your computer will populate. Click on the 'Installed ON' tab at the top to change the date so the recently installed items show at the top. This will make it easier to manually locate the three HP Laserjet items you need to uninstall.  5. • [Solved] CUPS: Unable to write print data: Input/output error

I'm filling this for the benefit of those poor googlers that can reach here.
Symptoms: After trying to print a "complex" image the printer made too much breaks, and failed.
The problem is, it then didn't came up. I mean, I restarted the printer, cupsd, the whole system, and nothing.
I was unable to print again, it showed "Unable to write print data: Input/output error" and refused to print anything.
I then saw that in /etc/cups I had printers.conf and printers.conf.O files, which differed (other than in StateTime), that printers.conf.O had
    State Idle
    but printers.conf had:
    State Stopped
StateMessage Unable to write print data: Input/output error
    Reason paused
Probably due to the ErrorPolicy being stop-printer.
So seeing I followed the following steps:
    Stop cups
Replace printers.conf with printers.conf.O (I could also had manually edited it)
    Start cups
    It then went working flawlessly.
There was probably an option in the web interface combobox for doing that. The problem is that I didn't realise it was stopped, so didn't know how to make it work. Moreover, some posts in the web recommended reinstalling the printer (which would skip the problem by creating a new printer).

I think that I had this same problem, and fixed it by reinstalling the printer.  Thank you for your post.

  • Unable to order prints anymore... weird iPhoto error

    Hey there,
I'm unable to order prints from iPhoto anymore, it started before the 8.1.1 update. When I start to upload photos to the Kodak server, after 2Mo is transmitted it bugs. In the console I have the following mysterious error :
    25/11/09 23:11:00 iPhoto[6419] PUT /Documents/49519329/image_0.jpg (FAILED), httpStatusCode:402, errorType:100, transactionState:5, txnId:A749349E-5655-4459-8EC0-E92E465EC788, auto-retries=0, manual-retries=0

    MessengerContext = <ISNewMessengerContext: 0x199b9fa0>;
    Retry = YES;
    Status = ERROR;
    StatusCode = 402;
    }

I wondered, reading the output from the Error you posted, if it was having trouble finding particular photos:
    /Documents/49519329/image_0.jpg (FAILED)
How are you uploading to the Kodak Server? With an app, a plugin to iPhoto, some other way?

  • Error message "unable to get printer status"

I am connecting an HP6700 with a macbook pro running 10.8 wirelessly.  Wireless printing has been working fine for months until it recently stopped.  I have reconnected to wireless network on both printer and computer, restarted both machines, both say they are connected to the wireless network.  However when I try to print it starts to print and then I get an error message that says "unable to get printer status"  I don't know what else to do.  Help!

    Hi lizse,
    Welcome to the HP forums!
Sorry to hear you've been having trouble printing wirelessly between your Mac running 10.8 and your Officejet 6700 printer but I will certainly do my best to help out
To start, I know you've power cycled the printer and the Mac but I'm wondering if maybe your router had an update. I'd like you to turn off the printer and Mac, once they power down pull the power cord on your router for 30 seconds. Once the router is back up (the lights have returned to normal) turn the Mac and then the printer back on. Once they settle, please try to print again.
If that doesn't resolve the issue please try resetting your printing system (don't re-add the printer just yet) and then perform a verify/repair of disk permissions. Once those complete, reboot the Mac and re-add the printer before trying to print again.
Hope to hear back from you soon!

  • Printer error :Unable to open printer (read failure)!

I always could normally print anything via my printer Canon MP260. This printer is connected to the Apple Time Capsule. I print wireless from the imac. Since yesterday it will not print anymore and I get the following error message: Unable to open printer (read failure)!
I hope someone can help me

Try a reset of the printing system. This will require you to add the printer queue again but you will not need to run the driver installation again.
*How to Reset the Printing System*
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
    4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
    5. Restart your Mac

  • 'unable to send print data' on HP Laserjet 1536dnf MFP

    Hi there,
I'm running an iMac with OSX 10.6.8. Via an USB cable I have attached a HP Laserjet 1536dnf MFP to the iMac.
I also use this printer to print via wifi (i.e. through the iMac) with my MacBook Pro (with OSX 10.7.3).
Suddenly today the printer stopped working via my MacBook Pro. I get an error message: 'unable to send print data'.
I have checked my antivirus etc., but that does not appear to be the problem. I have also updated the firmware of the printer, without success.
Can somebody help me out? Is the OS difference the problem? But until today that hasn't been a problem.
Thank you very much! Regards, Luc.

    Hi jemenake
I understand you lost connection with the network for the Laserjet 1536 through ethernet connection.
Disconnect the routers power cable, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect the power cable. Wait till it's ready. The router might not be finding the printer on the network.
If this doesn't resolve the issue continue to the next steps.
Print a  configuration report from the  LaserJet 1536dnf.
Press the Setup button, (the one with the wrench on it)
reports, press OK, Config Report, press OK.
Check to see if the ip address is valid.
If you have a valid ip address then delete and add the printer on the mac, the driver might have become corrupted.
    Delete printer on mac.
Click on the Apple, click System & Preferences, then click the Print & Scan icon (on some systems this may be displayed as Print & Fax),highlight your printer name and click the  button on the bottom left corner of the screen.
    Add printer on the mac.
Click on the Apple, click System & Preferences, and then click the Print & Scan icon (on some systems this may be displayed as Print & Fax),click add a printer, then select the printer from the list, make sure the printer listed beside use or print: shows proper printer name and not airprint, (airprint is a preinstalled apple driver with basic funtionality if on 10.8) add it in.
If the ip address is not valid please let me know.

  • Photosmart C4599 w. iMac OS 10.6.8 won't print. Error message "pipe broken" gone; still wont print

Printer would not print. The error message: "Pipe broken. printer cartridges can't move, Open door and release cartridges."  However, when I opened the door they moved to the left and out of sight; I didn't see a broken pipe. When I closed the door, they moved back to the right.  Did this several times, installed a new black cartridge because mine was low, got a message to align printer, which I did.  Printer printed the alignment sheet, which I then scanned in and learned alignment was OK.  Printer still did not print although error message had disappeared. Then I followed all of the steps in HP's troubleshooting support (all of which I'd done on my own before) Got a message Printer Ready, but printer still doesn't print.  I tried some other files too, in case that one was corrupted in some way.
I just tried again - with a new file.No success.  New error message: Unable to connect with printer; will try in 30 seconds.  All lights on the printer are fine, including the wireless light.
    Can someone help?  Many thanks.

  • Unable to locate printer. Brother MFC-J200 CUPS

Hi, I installed cups and the printer's drivers and I can configure the printer. But, when I try to make print the test page, I get this error: Unable to locate printer BRW9CD21E90F93E.local". and I looked in the wiki and on different forums, tried different methods to solve this but I still can't print anything because it can't locate it. Anyone knows how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

You're not going to find that file. That's BRW + 12 digit hex code + .local. The hex code is likely random for each print job. It was likely never created in the first place.
That PKGBUILD has a bunch of errors. Ask the maintainer to fix it. If you would like to be able to discuss the package intelligently you can compare it with my PKGBUILD for the brother-mfc-j870dw. Here are some of the more glaring errors.
    * The cupswrapper generator can be run in build() which eliminates the install and the forgotten uninstall.
    * No uninstall section as found in the debian package. My package was able get pacman to do all the work and do away with the install completely.
    * Allows the installer to run the init scripts. Fortunately they aren't there anyways. cups doesn't need restarting to see new printers.
    * Left in the installer that modifies /etc/printcap and fixed it to use /etc/printcap. I see the word .local here so this might be the source of your error.
    * ldd shows that the executables do not use libstdc++5. No go for 64 bit users unless the 32 bit v6 is already installed.
    * The RPM is no better or worse than the DEB, except that RPM is directly supported by pacman and does not require yet another AUR download.
    * Forgot dependency on ghostscript
    * || return 1 should be removed. makepkg always has this flag set. This PKGBUILD must be ancient.
There's probably more but I'd need to fix the PKGBUILD to find them all. I'm fortunate that I started with a much better PKGBUILD than this one.

this is no adobe specific error, it's from your application. You've some entries in your customizing so that specific texts are expected by the form.
go to the context, search your text there and check wheter the checkbox "no error when text is missing" is activated or not...
if the textbox is not activated but the text is missing --> thats the behaviour you have

  • Unable to open printer (read failure)! mac lion

I downloaded the new Lion software recently and since doing so I have not been able to print. When I print to my Canon MX700 it come up with :Unable to open printer (read failure)!
I have reset as I found thru other posts, downloaded th current driver/software info from the printer website and connected the mac book pro directly to the usb port versus thru my airport which has worked great for many years. What is it with this new lion software and printing??

I, too am having problems printing after updating to 10.6.8. I have a wireless HP D110 that works fine but lost connectivity to my Epson Stylus Pro7600. I used to get an error message or that plotter is busy, so I followed instructions to remove printer and reinstall...Now my iMac can't find the driver even though I've reinstalled it. Anyone out there have any luck?

  • Photosmart 7510. Unable to find printer

I am trying to set up a photosmart 7510 All in one. I am on Windows Vista 32 bit. My wireless network test results  are fine. Everything says PASS and my signal quality is EXCELLENT. My Network Configuration Page  says status is READY and my Active Connection type is WIRELESS. I am able to print from my phone using Eprint. I am able to open the printer apps on the printer so I know I have an internet connection. When I try to print from the computer I get an error message that says UNABLE TO FIND PRINTER. i have disabled my firewall, uninstalled my anti virus protection just to see if that helps. I changed from IE9 to IE8 but still doesn't work. The last 2 days I have about 6 1/2 hours on the phone with HP and an engineer will be calling me on Monday. It's driving me nuts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On this page look at the Print Diagnostic utility, and maybe the Network Diagnostic utility:

    1. Product Name and Number
         • HP Deskjet 3512
     2. Operating System installed (if applicable)
         • Windows 7 64-bit
     3. Error message (if any)
         Unable to find printer.
        Facts:
    - Printer is connected to network. Panel LED is unblinking blue and the status indicates the correct SSID for my network. Also the router config page indicates that the printer is connected with a correct IP (192.168.1.XX).
    - Wireless Network Test Results diagnostics of the printer states that all PASSED, except that the Internet says 'Not connected'.
    - Tried to ping the IP that the printer panel says, but cmd says: Destination Host Unreachable. Tried arp -a after that but it does not show the IP & MAC address of the printer.
    - Turned off: Windows firewall, router firewall (Telus Actiontec V1000H) and disabled MAC Address Control and uninstalled Avast AV and reboot.
    - Cannot access printer Embedded Web Server.
    - Tried the HP Print and Scan Doctor and it didnt find the printer. And when it did find it, it was by using the USB cable. After selecting the fixes, it came to 'Unable to Find Printer again'.
     4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred
         • No changes. Bought the printer and I'm having this issue.
    PLEASE HELP!

To start out sounds like this is a driver issue. I want to start with being sure that the removal of the software and reinstallation happened in the best possible fashion. I want you to follow my steps so I can be sure that we are both starting on the same page.
First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it (this is important). Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.
find and install the FULL FEATURE SOFTWARE if it is available :
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=5241114
Install that and let me know the result!
    Have a great day!

  • 0x0000007a, Unable to install Printer

We have an HP DesignJet 500 on our network that is shared via a Windows 2003 Server for our CAD users. When the users connect via our VPN to our RDP server (Windows 2008 Standard R2), the users do not see the printer on our network and cannot map the printer.  I
have made multiple attempts to first map the HP DesignJet on the RDP server ( I have local admin rights), each time resulting in the error message "Windows cannot connect to the printer."  There is nothing in the windows logs with further information.
I installed the DesignJet on another Windows 2008 Standard R2 server successfully and tried to map to it from the RDP server and I get the same error.  I have downloaded the newest drivers from HP for Server 2008.
I have also attempted to install the HP DesignJet on the RDP server, first using the IP address of the printer, then using slash slash ServerName slash PrinterName, slash slash serverIP slash PrinterName,.  (links were not permitted in this box)
All have ended with the same error:  "Unable to install printer.  Operation could not be completed (error 0x0000007a)."  How can I get this printer installed so it can be used via the RDP server?
    Thank you for your assistance.

    This is the error
    C:\>winerror 0x0000007a
       122 ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER
       122 ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER
Not a clue what's happening on the RDP server.  Failure adding as a local printer as you did on the other 2008R2 machine seems extremely odd.
Since locally and connection fails, I suggest taking a look at the spooler file structure for recursive directories
    C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3
    C:\windows\system32\spool\prtprocs\x64
Here are some similar posts.  The first post actually addresses RDP server although with different error.

  • Unable to open printer definition file

    hi,
I am getting this message when running a report from
    forms
The report called dbgpletw.rdf is using a defn file of "uniwide.prt" but is giving the error message
Rep 1804 unable to open printer definition file "dbgpletw.rdf"
I copied the report to test.rdf and ran it but comes up with message
Rep 1804 unable to open printer definition file "test.rdf"
Any ideas why the report thinks the defn file is what
    the report is called ??
    Thanks
    Ian

    Thanks for replying,
I have given up trying to get the report to run via the
reports server route to output a file using a .prt file.
Since report ran fine under Reports Builder, i decided to look at for an equivalent to the "run reports" under 2.5 and found rwrun.exe.
I ran this manually and to my suprise(?), my report ran and produced the required output. I incorporated the code into my forms application and now run host('rwrun report_name with parameters') and am now getting the output file as required.
If you want any more info, please send me a reply
    Thanks for your interest
