Unable to recognize deck when printing to video (fcp 6.0.5)

I am driving myself absolutely crazy trying to figure this one out. I found a previous thread discussing the same problem (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8602649) but nothing has worked.
My footage was shot using a Sony HVR-V1U. I captured using the ProRes 422 codec. My audio video settings are set with the following...
sequence preset: Apple Pro Res 422 1440 x 1080 60i 48khz
capture preset: Apple Pro Res 422
device control preset: sony firewire hdv
When click on the A/V tab, different output for edit to tape/print to video is selected:
video: [Missing] HDV 1440 x 1080 60i
audio: default
Im not sure why the missing is there. My firewire port is working and i can capture without a problem.
I've tried trashing the prefs and am at a loss. This problem may have an easy solution and really hope someone can help!
Thanks!

Sorry to say, these days that machine is marginal, and HDV is processor intensive. I hate that darned codec already.
Just for laughs, capture one clip as prores and see if you can recreate the behaviour. It might behoove you to re-ingest your footage if you haven't gotten too far along.

  • Video playback on external monitor working. Only works when Print to Video

I'm having a problem. I'm using FCP 5. When editing, my video playback is not showing up on my external monitor (Sharp MiniDV camcorder). It does however show up on the external monitor when I "Print to Video." This is the first time using FCP 5. I never had this problem with previous versions of FCP. Can anyone tell me whats going on? Thanks

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • When I "print to video" FCP works well but suddenly freezes... why?¿

Hi everybody! I'm desperate right now, hope somebody could help me. I'm working on FCP 4.5 and when I'm done with my project I try to "Print to Video" and/or do it manually and all seems ok but suddenly FCP freezes (with audio still running) and I gotta start all over again... This never happened to me before. I'm doin' this with my iMac G5 (with AGP Video Card) and I can edit, add effects, transitions and even add photoshop images fine but when I want to "print my project" on mini DV I just can't do it "continously" ... any ideas? Thanks a lot, really, anything at this point would help me. Take Care, Bye!!!
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   iMac G3 Graphite, iBook G3, iPod 15 GB...

Is this a firewire drive? USB is no good for video.
If the external is a frewire drive, all your media should be on that drive while you edit. the final output should also remain on that drive.
Once you are finished editing and ready to record, export the file under Use Current Settings, Self-contained.
Then bring that into a fresh sequence and play it to tape for recording.
    good luck.

  • Weird audio issue when printing to video

I am attempting to dub a couple of old projects to tape using the Print to Video command (firewire connection to Panasonic DVX-100A MiniDV camera). I have used this method many times in the past with success. However, I have now tried two different projects tonight and had the same strange issue: The project plays back perfectly normally in the timeline, through the computer speakers, but when I Print to Video, there will be one part where a small audio "blip" can be heard. It sounds like either a snippet of tone or the sound of un-rendered audio... except it's all rendered.
Anybody have any suggestions? It's really weird that it plays back something different in Print to Video than it does in regular playback... Any help is appreciated.

That did it, thanks! I feel kind of dumb, I've never used that function before. Is that something I should have been doing all along? Anyway, thanks again. It's nice to get a response and have it work on the first try. So refreshing.

  • Drop Frames when Printing to Video

I know there are a lot of topics on drop frames, but I couldn't find any that met my specific set of circumstances.
My video plays fine and there is no red bar indicating that something has to be rendered. However, when I try to print to video, ten seconds in, the project is aborted and a drop frame error is given.
Is there anything I can do to get around this?
    Thanks.

I don't know the specs of your machine however...
Alternatevely you could open the RT dropdown menu
and turn playback video quality and playback frame rate to the minimum and close

  • Loosing audio when printing to video

    I'm working with FCE HD 3.0. I use a Powermac G5-2x1.8. Memory: 3 GB.
    Systemdrive: 150 GB.
    Internal scratchdrive: 280 GB.
System: Mac OSX 10.3.9. My camera is a Sony HDR-HC3.
My scratchdisk is filled with 188 GB.
I edited a 40 min. movie. When I play the timeline everything is fine.
When I print to tape I lose some parts of teh musictracks (track 5 and 6), Sometimes I even loose little parts of the clipsound (track 1 and 2).
Befor I print to video I render video and audio, use 'mixdown' and refresh videodevice.
How to get a good result?
    G5-2x1.8   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi(Bonjour)!
If there is a song bought on iTune Music Store, you can't use this track.
Did you render an audio mixdown before export ?
Try a test version with just one minute of movie. (set in and out point in timeline and do the print to tape operation).
Try a print to tape from a cold start mac.
Drag your playhead around your sequence before printing (it's seem that this process load the cahe memory, at least in my own experience)
If the problem is still there, you can also do an audio track mix quicktime conversion export (aiff 16 bit) from your sequence, import it into a new sequence, open your previous edited one in editor (option clik), do uncheck audio A1 and A2 target, and drag the video content on V1 in the new sequence. Drag your exported audio on A1 A2.
Do a check for the synch of your movie.
Do not forget to do an audio mixdown before print to tape.

  • Viewing output when printing to video

I have just switched to editing HD, when I print to video i see a very small version of the output in the center of the screen, everything works but i wonder if i can get the output to show full screen on my display as it outputs?
    thanks!

thanks, i have a 30 inch apple display, i assume it's hd compliant? i see the picture it's just that it's small and in the center of a black box which is itself in the center of my very large screen! the actual picture is about 4 inches long and 2 1/2 inches tall.

  • "Incompatible Compression Settings" all of a sudden when printing to video

Yesterday all went fine...tried to print to video again today (same project) and got an "incompatible compression settings" error message. I've changed nothing. All was fine yesterday...any clue?

As long as your cartriges are full, put a photo on you desktop, highlight it , click COMMAND P and the print preferences window should drop down, and select your printer and photo paper.

  • When printing to video I only get sound, no video

Hi. I'm printing some video on to a DV tape. It's HD video with Final Cut Pro. I have my Sony HD camera connected and select Print to Video from the File menu. I get a black screen, but no real fottage. Only audio. How strange. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

so it seems like it's a camera problem, not an fcp problem. Couple of ideas. Disconnect the camera from the computer and see if that allows you to reset the menu. Then reconnect. Load an HDV clip in the viewer and play making sure external video is set correctly to feed the camera via firewire and see if that allows you to reset the menu. Completely power down the camera (disconnect power and battery) and power up and see if that makes a difference. Look at the camera manual.

You MUST give more information about your computer setup, version of FCE, size and complexity of project and exactly what you are doing.
This article will give you an idea of some of the things you need to mention:-
ASKING FOR HELP WITH FINAL CUT EXPRESS
When you write in with a problem, remember to give all possible APPROPRIATE details.
On occasions, people have omitted to mention vital details about what they were doing. eg. trying to capture video clips from a still camera!
    Things to mention:-
THIS IS A GENERAL LIST - SOME ITEMS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
Computer model and external Hard Drive.
    Operating System.
    FCE version.
    Camera type.
Did the problem suddenly occur or has it NEVER worked?
Have you recently loaded new Software or Upgraded ANY programs, Operating Systems etc.
Have you moved or altered your source files?
Have you captured the clips from a DV camera or an A/D Converter etc.?
Is it Standard or High Definition Video?
What type of files are you using?
Also include details of exactly what you were doing before the problem occurred.
Is your video extremely long (over an hour) and filled with numerous transitions and effects?
Is your Hard Drive more than 75% full or badly fragmented?
Is your external HD FireWire or USB2? (USB2 is NOT suitable).
What other equipment have you got plugged into your computer - it may be causing conflicts?
Is your camera plugged directly into your computer’s FW socket? Daisy chaining it can prevent it working properly.
Video from DVD and Hard Disk Camcorders or Still Cameras can not be used in Final Cut Express.

  • Insufficient disk space when rendering for print to video

We have a new hard drive (1.5 terabytes) with one project and when printing to video, the "insufficient disk space" window appears and remove rendered files dialog box ahows.  167 mb of rendered files which could not be removed.
What is the solution to get files removed or space created to export to video?

  • Print to Video Does not Work

I am running Final Cut pro 5. I am trying to send my time line to a mindv deck using print to video. I have a monitor hooked up to the deck to watch what is being recorded. I set my in and out points in the time line and and select print to video from the menu. I do not have any of the boxes checked, because i have black and color bars already in my time line. I select in/out and hit ok. The screen goes black and my video shows up in the middle playing, but nothing shows up on my monitor and when i watch the tape that i am recording to, there is nothing on there as well. The device control is working, because I can capture footage off of the deck, but it seems to not be getting a signal when I am trying to print to tape. I have also tried edit to tape, and I press record on the deck after setting up the sequence and then I play the sequence, and nothing is still recorded onto the tape. For both edit to tape and print to tape, everything is working, but nothing is being recorded onto the tape. I have also tried hooking up my sony camera to be used to record, but that doesn't work either. Any help would be great thanks!
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Make sure the deck has it's input selection set to firewire for starters...
I'm not clear if this is part of the problem, but FCP 5.0.4 will run better in Tiger.
But if you can see external video, you should also be able to print to video or edit to tape... if you can't then keep troubleshooting your Firewire connection... got a different cable to try? Can you capture video OK?

  • Print to Video quitting

I have done this a million times without a problem, but now...
When I hook up my HV20 deck and print to video(minidv), it works for awhile and then arbitrarily quits without any error message. My deck keeps recording, but the screen just goes back to my timeline.
I have tried it multiple times and it quits at different spots each time.
I have conformed my HDV project, so that it can shoot it out from the timeline like I always do.
I got a new firewire, but that isn't the problem.
The original file is on an external hard drive that is connected via firewire.
Any suggestions? I am at my wits end.

    1) Are you printing "entire media" or "in to out" if it's the later make sure your "out" is in the right place.
    2) try exporting your project as a self-contained movie, put it in a new timeline and then print to video

  • Hdv print to video not working

    Hi,
I am trying to print to video an HDV sequence, at HDV quality but neither my Macbook Pro nor G5 will see my Sony HVR10P or Canon XHA1. It is true that Final Cut Supports output to HDV decks using Print to Video yes? I can see the HDV Firewire 1440 setting in the External Video menu but it is greyed out.
On both the Camera and Deck I've tried all the different settings to get an HDV input signal, but to no avail. I'm also not getting a DV signal to tape using print to video. I can get the still image of the current frame though.
From what I've read this is supposed to be possible... does anyone have any suggestions? Going a bit nuts here after a couple of days,
    thanks,
    sam

Finally I've cracked it. There are a host of alternative HDV firewire setting in the Audio Video Settings. I was using the Sony HDV firewire setting which it defaulted to after recognising the Sony HDR10P deck. After trying HDV Firewire Basic and NDF to Print to Video there was no warning window "incompatible device" or "this sequence is not copmpatible with HDV Print to Video". It played through with a 2 second delay. However it wasn't stable - a large glitch at the beginning of the recording and no audio came through. Then tweaked to HDV Firewire 25fps Basic and it kept coming up with "run out of memory" just after conforming. It seems it IS possible but my systems are having teething problems and I should upgrade to FCP 6 - hopefully memory issues will be resolved there.
    Thanks..
    sam
