Unable to share Epson R220 printer

Recently installed Epson R220 printer on OSX Panther. After installation discovered it would not install on my G3 with OS9. Additional research uncovered information that it may be possible to network G5 with G3 via Ethernet and thereby print from G3 to R220 installed on G5. I have followed G5 instructions in "Help" (disable printer share in OSX, opening OS9 Classic and enable printer share, etc.). "Chooser" still does not show R220 in Classic and therefore believe it is not be being "seen" by G3. Hope you have enough information. Look forward to your reply
G5x2   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   G3 OS 9.2 ethernet connection

Regular (ie, simple) printer sharing doesn't work from OS X to OS 9 because they use different protocols.
If you have the same driver installed on both the G3 and G5 (Classic), you can share from OS X Classic to the G3 by installing and turning on the USB Printer Sharing Control panel (can be downloaded from Apple).
Connecting direct by ethernet requires setup, too. In Network Prefs (OS X) and TCP/IP Control panel (OS 9), set configure manually and enter these local IP addresses: 192.168.3.3 and 192.168.3.4. I don't know if appletalk is required for this protocol, but turn it on on both computers.
Another possibility is to use the Apple Desktop Printer Utility on the G3 to set up a desktop LPD printer. For that you need to share the printer in OS X Sharing Prefs, and write down/remember the OS X print queue name, found in printer Setup by clicking on show Info. Use "Apple Color LaserWriter" (any model) as the PPD/model in the OS 9/G3 setup. This means you will send postscript from the G3 to the G5's Epson print queue. The G5 will prepare the output (called RIPping) and send it to the printer.
Hope this helps.

  • Unable to install Epson ICC printer profiles in Lion (access privileges message)

I upgraded to Lion and cannot install Epson ICC printer profiles. When I try to install, the installation is halted with the message that I do not have enough access privileges for this installation. Yes, I am the admin (I checked, as I know this is a known issue). I have the current updates to the O/S and the Epson driver. Specifically, these are printer paper profiles for an Espon Stylus Photo R2800 printer.

The ownership of the /Library/ColorSync directory and its contents changed in Lion.  You acutally do not have enough priviliges as admin to write to that directory anymore.  EPSON's installer does not have the ability to ask you for your password to escalate the admin privileges to root.  You should report this to EPSON and insist that they update their installer.
There is a way to get the files installed, but it is pretty involved.  I will give you the general idea but USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.  There is a risk you could break your system and make it unusable.
With those admonitions in mind, here's the general outline.
    1.  Go to /Library/ColorSync.  Highlight the folder and do a Get Info on it.
    2.  Under the Sharing & Permissions portion, give "everyone" the ability to Read & Write.  Then choose to have this applied to all enclosed items.
    3.  Run the EPSON installer(s).  The profiles will now install.
    4.  Change the ownership and permissions for all the installed items useing the Terminal--
For the EPSON folder the command is 'sudo chown -R root:wheel path_to_EPSON_folder'
For each and every item in the EPSON folder, the command is 'sudo chmod 644 path_to_item'
    5.  Open Disk Utility and Repair Permssions.

  • Alignment problems printing direct to DVD with Epson R220

I know this question isn't specifically related to iDVD but I wondered if someone could help please?
I recently bought an Epson R220 printer to print direct to DVDs created with iDVD as I know labels stuck onto DVDs are best avoided.
However, using both the bundled Epson Print CD software and 'disclabel', I find the print is about 1cm off centre. I'm really surprised by this, as I thought these machines would just work out of the box - detecting through the software where the centre of the DVD is? I've tried everything to remedy this (including the position adjustment within Print CD which allows up to 5mm fine-tuning). The problem is I need more than fine tuning - the print is way off!
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has an R200 or R220 and might have had a similar problem as I've spoken to Windows users with the same printer, who report no such hassle.
    Many thanks,

Thanks Hardy - really appreciate the links to the Epson site. I've tried using the manual settings as you suggest, and I've certainly witnessed a vast improvement. Basically, it seems that if I alter the position adjustment slightly and then opt for a manual print, the disc is centred no problem. It isn't quite up to the edge of the disc - there's about a 2mm gap, using one of the templates from the Print CD app. Have you noticed this also - or does the image print right up tight against the edge of the disc?
If I go back and opt to just 'Print' from the first menu that appears after selecting File>Print, (i.e. not using Manual to print) the image is consistently about 15mm off centre - I've tried this on a dozen tests. However, using 'Manual Print' this isn't the case. I wonder if there is a glitch here in the latest edition of EPSON Print CD (V1.4), in that you seem unable to specify 'Page Set Up'?
I've also gone back to the excellent disclabel application. Here I find that if I change the 90% default under page set up, to 100%, the disc is also aligned correctly.
Thanks very much Hardy for taking the time to work through this one with me - much appreciated.

  • Has anyone gotten an official fix from EPSON for printing on CD/DVD's?

To re-iterate the problem, I am unable to normally print CD/DVD's with my EPSON R220 printer after installing Leopard.
    I get the following message:
"The EPSON printer driver dealing with CD printing is not installed"
After hitting OK, you get brought to (what I call) the EPSON CD Print window which lets you edit Color Correction and Print Position but the "Print" button is grayed out.
I can use the workaround I found in these discussions (thank you by the way) by hitting "Manual Print" from this window and select A4 for paper size and I'm able to print using the CD tray as normal.
But has anyone heard back from EPSON with an official fix?
    Thank you.

I spoke to EPSON support via the phone today.
They said that the "Manual Print" option button is available due to the Easy Print software they released early November. This is their workaround and they said they are working on a real solution but it's just not available yet.

  • Unable to print from a Mac using Maverick 10.9.2 on an Epson Photo printer with Photoshop CS4. Can you help?

I am trying to print in Photoshop CS4 on an Epson Photo printer (3880) from my Mac. I just upgraded to Maverick 10.9.2 when the problem started. Can you help.

I have the answer. It took quite a while but I know why the 3880 won't print from Photoshop 4 with Maverick. It is due to the Epson .icc page description files. The way to solve the problem is to make your own .icc. OK, so you don't know how to do it. This is what I did so now I get the quality prints I expect from an expensive printer.
You need to go to www.datacolor.com/spyderprint and purchase the Spyderprint hardware and software. It comes as a package for $300 to $350 depending on if you get a sale. The software will print on the 3880 test sheets of color blocks. With the hardware reader you then read the colors on the test sheets printed. What this does is match the monitor image with the printer, ink and paper you used. It makes an .icc page description file for you to select instead of the Epson .icc file. When you print again select the new .icc file and also choose "Printer Manages Colors" instead of "Photoshop Manages Colors" I know this is usual but it works. When you are done you will be smiling too with your beautiful results.
One other thing. If you want, it is optional, also purchase the Spider 4 Pro for $150. It calibrates your monitor and helps make excellent prints.
I understand it is more money and you already probably have a good computer, expensive camera to go with the 3880 so spend the extra money so it all works together.
    I hope this helps.

  • [SOLVED] Is 'epson-inkjet-printer-201212w 1.0.0-7' a safe AUR package?

    Hello,
I'm new to Arch Linux. I'm wondering if this package ( https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/epso … r-201212w/ ) is safe to use?
I've read the wiki and I was advised to check the PKGBUILD for any malicious/corrupt code. As I'm not a programmer or such, I don't know very much about programming.

  • Epson R220 DVD tray error - any ideas?

I have a Epson R220 for printing DVD labels, using the Epson Print CD software.
It worked for a while, but now the tray keeps ejecting with a message "CD/DVD tray not aligned". I'm careful to place the tray under the rollers, and align the marks.
The manual says clean the rollers by feeding sheets of paper....didn't help.
    Any suggestions?

Maybe that's the same thing that your process accomplishes.
Sounds like a feeder issue on the printer and nothing to do with cleaning the print heads themselves (which the folded paper would help address in most cases).
Regardless ... Glad it's working ok for you now.

  • CUPS, HP PSC 2355 and "Unable to get list of printer drivers: Unknown"

    Hey fellow Archers!
    The Introduction
The other day, I installed ArchLinux for the ARM processor on my GoFlex Home. Straight away I installed samba, got it set up and everything works like a charm with explosive transfer-rates compared to the old factory-firmware. Also put on a mysql server to centralize my xbmc database and pyload to download large files without having to have my laptop opened all the time. Have to admit, this Arch Linux is a glorious world!
    The Setup
Well, after this positive input, now comes my problem. I wanted to share our printer on our LAN, so I did a little search to quickly find CUPS. Installed it together with all the dependencies, like foomatic, python (which was installed as pyload uses it) and all that stuff.
Changed the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf to listen on 0.0.0.0 and started the daemon.. Woohoo! Turned on the printer, opened the web interface, went to administration -> add printer and selected one of the printers available from this list:
    Local printers
    CUPS-PDF (Virtual PDF Printer)
HP PSC 2350 series USB MY5BNF4423KJ HPLIP (HP PSC 2350 series)
    Seriel port #1
HP PSC 2350 series (HP PSC 2350 series)
    HP Fax (HPLIP)
Before I proceed, I want to say that I have tried the following with both of the PSC-entries.
    The Problem
Now, i selected the printer and just let the default values be, pressed continue and got this error message:
"Unable to get list of printer drivers: Unknown"
Well, googled it a bit and tried to blacklist lsusb, as well as chmod /dev/bus/usb/001/002 to 665 (even 777). Still the same error message. Also tried to install the printer with hp-setup -i which let me pick a ppd myself; didn't work either. Gave me an error message saying that it was unable to add the printer to cups. I have run out of options, and the almighty sir Google wont give me any solutions other than those which I have tried.
I even get this error message when I try to add cups-pdf (which I also installed oc).

  • Lightroom 5.7, Epson 820 printer. dark images

I am using Lightroom 5.7 and Epson 820 printer.  i have calibrated my monitors using spider3, no printer ICC and using multiple different ICCs in lightroom and all the same result.   All my images are dark and washed out.  Need help.  If I export my images and print from MS photo viewer they look pretty good.

As to my printer drivers, after installing Snow Leopard, I was unable to print using LR2.5. The print would fail generating an error. I then installed the new drivers from the Epson web site: epson13113.dmg for my Epson R2400. This "worked" in that it did not generate an error, but would just transmit to printer and then quit.
Up to that point I had done a minimum of web reading, I just had seen that Matt K. from Kelby and others had been using SN and LR2 successfully. With my two failures, I googled extensively. I deleted all my printers, downloaded the new 10/22 Apple Epson drivers, re-ran the Epson drivers, etc, etc, etc, stopping and restarting along the way until I was able to obtain CS4 prints using SL with my Epson R2400.
At that point, I returned to my initial objective, which was to obtain (re-obtain, if you will as I previously had them) quality prints from LR. The early prints were harsh and less than acceptable, and when I got the "Sun in the dark" picture that I could quantify, I knew I had a definite issue and posted to this forum.
(I am assuming that my deletion of the profiles while seeking to update driver is how I generated my initial inconsistency that was part of my original post).
I now looks like I had a color space problem. I have deleted and re-generated the psd "Edit in Photoshop" image. Again, on the screen, the edit and the original appear identical and as the CS4 print is correct, I am left, it appears to me, with a LR2.5 printing issue unless I can find some configuration issue. The two pictures are definitely different with the flesh tone pink and some of the background colors "lighter" in the LR2 print.
(As a side, I don't think this would matter, the original pics were taken as raw nef from a D700 camera using a 105mm VR2 macro lens).
    Thanks for your time.

  • Epson R220 "CD/DVD guide open"

I'm trying to print onto a CD with an Epson R220... After the first lot of problems I had with the Print CD program (Which doesn't work), I have found a template for Photoshop, in which I can add graphics etc to and supposedly print to a CD.
I select "Type" as CD/DVD in the print settings menu, yet when it goes to print it says "CD/DVD guide open"... Which is fairly obvious, as it's what I'm trying to print onto.
I've had a browse on several other forums, and the only thing they can suggest is that I select the 'manual feed' option... Unfortunately, this seems to be a Windows only option.
    Anyone any ideas?

    thanks,
I worked great. I realized the problem I had: even though you choose the direct to CD/DVD print -> unfortunately when printing the driver is not smart enough to choose the CD as a format so you have to go to "print setting" each time and choose "CD" instead of plain paper. Then it works great.
btw: if you have/get Toast then Discuss comes with it. With Toast 8 you get "Disc Cover" which is even better.
