Unable to store sent message on Yahoo server

When I send an email from Mail ( Lion OS Mail) I am unable to store the sent message on the Yahoo server.
I have set up my Yahoo email account as a POP account & I do not see the option of “ Store sent message on the server” as in iCloud email.
The iCloud email is set up as IMAP.
Any help to solve this problem is appreciated

Right with POP Sent emails only show on your local computer unless you are using IMAP and even then it is a setting in the mail program and the IMAP server to store all sent emails on the server. With Gmail they are included in the All Mail folder. But Yahoo is different and only if you have a paid Yahoo account do you have access to their IMAP system.
No way to do that with POP.

With an IMAP account, if "Store sent messages on the server" is checked (in Mailbox behaviors) does Mail only store sent mail on the server?
So should it not be checked if you want Mail to store sent mail on the server and the computer?

    Hi Norm G,
Thanks for your comments and the link to further information.
With it checked you will get both on the server and the Mac.
I have it checked, yet when I pause the curser over Sent mailbox the tooltip says "Contents stored on server. Name on server: Sent Messages". Does this mean stored only on the server or also on the server?
    What does your tooltip say?
At the moment sent emails only appear in that Sent mailbox. If Mail also stores them on the Mac should they also appear in another Sent folder "On My Mac"?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Mail unable to save sent messages on the server

    Dear all,
i get this error when sending messages with the IMAP mail server. Mails are not copied on the server.
Mail[3277]: Error (null) occurred while trying to append messages to outgoing store. Ignoring and proceeding with delivery...
Everything is fine with Thunderbird so it appears to be a Mail problem
    Any help ?
    Thanks.

Same problem here, although it only happens with emails and certain large attachments. They send fine but are not copied to the sent items box. I am using exchange/IMAP.

  • If I do NOT store my sent messages on IMAP server, where are they?

My hosting service warned me that I am taking up too much space with my Sent messages being stored on the IMAP server.  If I uncheck the box to store Sent messages on the server in my account preferences, then where do I find my sent messages?  All of the folders listed alongside the sidebar seem to be linked directly to the IMAP account.  I can't find my sent messages anymore.
They aren't gone though.  If I check the box again, the messages show up again.  So my question is how do I not store them on the server but still store and be able to see them on my computer?
    Thanks
    Bob

That is a solution if I want to do a one-time move of my sent messages to another folder and then leave things as-is.  But once I stop storing the sent messages on the server, how do I access new sent messages after that?  The folder is not visible anywhere, from what I can tell.

  • In mail, I unchecked store deleted messages on the server and now I have 2 (duplicate) iCloud IMAP accounts in mail. If I delete one, will I loose my mail?

If I delete one of my duplicate ICloud accounts, will I loose all my mail? I was searching for where I was getting the deleted mail and unchecked the store deleted messages on the server. That made changes to my account and now under accounts in mail I have the same account twice. I do not want to loose my mail and am affraid to delete one of the accounts.

Im trying to avoid a reinstall so am hoping there is a supporting file I have missed that can be trashed. I have also just tried trashing the ~/library/mail folder but there is no change to the check box behaviour.

  • Unable to view sent message from one of my email accounts

I have two email addresses from my email server. On one of the accounts, I am unable to view the text of the messages in the sent mailbox and I get the following message:
The message from (my email address is shown here) concerning “Insurance” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
The server says there is nothing in my sent box on the server to download. I have selected the choice in the preferences area that says to delete messages from the server "right away" when they are downloaded.

    Patrick,
    If running Tiger, see:

If running 10.3.9, as your Profile says, then you likely have an "Overstuffed" Sent mailbox. See the Topic at the following link, and the topic linked from within it:

  • Unable to find sent messages,..

For many messages, after I reply, if I click the little arrow that shows I've replied, Mail complains with an error:
Mail was unable to find your response to the message “xxxx subject of message xxxx”. You may have deleted the message.
Sometimes it correctly shows me the message,...I never "delete" my sent messages,...if I go looking using spotlight or just simply open up the Sent mailbox, I can find them,...but I send a lot of mail, so this just adds more steps to what ought to be a simple thing,...anyone else experience this? Solutions?
    Thanks

I check three accounts with Mail,...while one is a .Mac, one is gmail, and one is on an exchange server, I set them all up using the POP protocol because I prefer the model for the way I tend to work with my mail, speed, etc,....That's what so puzzling to me,...the sent messages are plainly visible in the sent box, but the little arrow showing me I replied doesn't seem to find them. Rebuilding the mailboxes did nothing.
Aside from this little annoyance, I like the program more than I thought I would after over 10 years of being a Eudora user,...Smart Mailboxes and filters together do a lot for me to manage my mail.

  • Mail copying to Sent Messages on IMAP server

i noticed that with 10.5.4 that the message appears to be sent to the Sent Messages folder, but never seems to make it.
can anyone let me know if there have been any changes on this front (iMail server).
it behaves differently than it did, but still not correctly.
    thanks so much!

I have been having this problem intermittently, with the same error messages. Some messages are sent and stored properly, others are sent but not saved, and I cannot find a pattern. The only condition that occurred to me is that it generally happened within the first few messages I sent after waking the Mac from sleep, reconnecting to my wireless network and syncing Mail (which it does automatically). None of the messages were large at all (~40 KB, I'd say) but some had attachments such as pictures (~100 KB). All of the recipients were in my Address Book.
I guess that a less-than-ideal workaround is to 'automatically cc/bcc myself', activated in Preferences > Composing, and subsequently delete the messages if they are in the Sent folder. (Admittedly a real pain for large volume of messages, but at least you have a copy of the messages.)

  • Unable to read sent messages

OK. Another email question and I know this has been answered previously but I wasn't able to find it this time. My sent emails are reading as "The message from Sandra Xxxx has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." I've actually deleted months worth of emails hoping this would open up some room in my sent box folder, but I still get the same message. Can you let me know how I can retrieve these sent messages?
    Thanks. Sandra

What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac). If POP, you probably have the problem described in the following article:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
As you can see, letting a mailbox grow indefinitely is a really bad idea. If you’re just starting to experience the problem, doing what the article suggests might work. If you’ve let the problem to become worse over time, however, it may be too late to solve it as described in the article, but you may still be able to fix it as follows:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/.
    3. Locate Sent Messages.mbox and move it to the Desktop.
    4. Open Mail. A new empty Sent Messages.mbox will automatically be created within the account folder, and this will allow you to continue using Mail normally while trying to solve the problem.
Although Sent Messages.mbox appears to be a file, it’s actually a special kind of folder (a package) that contains several files. Ctrl-click on Sent Messages.mbox and choose Show Package Contents from the contextual menu to see the files it contains. Of these files, mbox is the most important and is where all your messages are stored. What’s the size of that file? Depending on its size, you may or may not be able to directly import it back into Mail in the next step.
An Incoming_Mail file may also be present, in which case it might contain messages that Mail couldn’t transfer to mbox. Incoming_Mail is also a standard mbox file like mbox proper, just named differently, and can be imported back into Mail in the same way.
    5. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes and follow the instructions to import the Sent Messages.mbox that’s on the Desktop. I’m not sure what the import options available in Mail 1.x are, but you should choose Other / Standard mbox or something like that, so that Mail looks at the mbox file only (and Incoming_Mail, if present) and ignores the other files in the package.
If Mail doesn’t let you select Sent Messages.mbox in step 5 because it’s a package instead of a plain folder, rename Sent Messages.mbox to just Sent Messages (i.e. remove the .mbox suffix) so that it becomes a normal folder, and try again. You cannot do this directly in the Finder because removing a suffix by normal means causes the Finder to hide the suffix instead of renaming the file. To remove the suffix from the name, you must do File > Get Info (⌘I) on the file and change the name there.
If the mbox file is too big for Mail to handle it, however, you’ll have to break it into smaller pieces. You can do that with an MBOX Breaker Script available at Allan Sampson’s website, or with Emailchemy. The former will ignore the Incoming_Mail file that I mentioned previously, but you may try importing that file directly if it’s not too big or just ignore it if all your messages are in mbox. Also, if you removed the .mbox suffix from the name of the mailbox, you may need to add it back again for the script to recognize it.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Unable to access "sent messages" that I saved. All were available yesterday.

I have  iMac running OS 10.8.5. Today I am unable "sent messages" in mail (version 6.6) that I saved. These were readily accessible in the past. I have used searchlight.

    LaSelva,
I am guessing you looked in your Sent folder in Mail. Also, your ISP should have record of your sent messages, if you use a web based service then you can look on their web site and log into your email account to see this information.

  • Yahoo POP:  How to get copy of sent messages onto Yahoo servers?

I have a question regarding the Mac Mail program built into OS X. Is there a way that when sending an email (my address is a Yahoo Plus address) that a copy of it can be saved on Yahoo's servers in my sent folder?
Sending email through my iPhone or iPad copies a copy of it to Yahoo's server but Mac Mail does not seem to do this. Is there a setting I am missing?
I want to be able to log on to Yahoo webmail and see the emails I have sent via Mac Mail.
    Thanks!

Hello egiggy! I can certainly understand the need for retrieving the content of your text messages! In order to go further than 90 days, the only way to do this would be with a court ordered subpeona or through the request of a law official. You can request more information by contacting us directly at 800-922-0204.
Additionally, another great tool to keep record of your text messages is by using our service, Verizon Messages. http://vz.to/1LgAc7H I personally use this feature and love it! It keeps a record of all of my stored text messages, and upon installation can go back 90 days as well.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns! Thank you and good luck!

  • Store Sent Messages from Spiceworks

    Hi All,
Basically, whenever any of us sends the end user a message via spiceworks, I want a copy of that message to get stored in the 'Sent Items' folder that is in the exchange account that spiceworks is set up to use.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    James

Maybe you'll get a better answer, but my understanding is that the "sync" that iTunes provides for mail ONLY syncs. the account related information (user name password, servers to use ...)
It does not sync. the actual MAIL.
It does with IMAP and Exchange accounts. Thats how it works - all the content.
With most POP3 accounts the systems are designed to leave incomming mail available on the server even after it has been downloaded to a "client".
Erm, no. POP is designed to download from a server directly to a single email client on one machine, but it can leave the email on a server - but only in a single folder.
Thus, you download it to the iPhone and again to Outlook and the In-boxes look the same.
Yes it does, but thats IMAP functionality - with POP you can leave it in the server, but all the copies can become unsynchronised from each other. With IMAP, whatever you do on one client, appears on another. If one client as you describe it, replies, the others that have downloaded it do not get the reply message, but they will get the response.
However mail sent from one client or the other (Outlook / iPhone) are NOT automatically replicated to the other client, and there is no easy way to do this that I am aware of...
There is - use an IMAP client - each client gets all emails.
You can "CC" yourself on the notes which will send a copy to your inbox and you can then file it on the other client, but this is less than ideal.
    A lot less and unnecessary
IMAP is supposed to fix these short comings, but I have not messed around with it.......
    Evidently

  • Sent messages not saving on Exchange server

Does anyone know how to get emails sent from an MS Exchange account in Mail 8.2 to save (either in Sent folder on local machine or preferably on the Exchange server)?
"Store sent messages on the server" is selected, but this doesn't work on any of my Exchange accounts. Mail is set to automatically maintain exchange account settings. At the moment I'm BCC'ing all sent messages to myself and then dragging them into the relevant Sent folder, which is syncing with server so I can see messages on other computers, but this isn't really satisfactory long term. The problem has only arisen since "upgrading" to Yosemite.

Something is wrong with the Mail app the last week and half or so.  Messages are disappearing, not getting synched, don't stay in the saved folders they are moved to, jump back at later dates (even days later) to the original inboxes, etc.  Very unstable and unreliable.  It was working better for a few months before this latest update, but is an absolutely messy nightmare right now. Changes made in Apple Mail are not getting reflected in other mail apps or on the external mail servers in a reliable, usefull manner.  Some do, some don't.   Use another mail app until Apple gets this fixed.
